Union. We need to talk.

[The residents of Union who are currently tuning in to the Warp Band Network are treated to the sight of one (1) Waver Velvet, traveller from Sanctuary whom some know as a self-taught Magus. Alternately, some may know him as Waver Mackenzie, a psychic type Earthkin-- because, clearly, the young man cannot keep his story straight. His normally pristine hair is in a disarray, his clothes are unusually wrinkled and torn, but there is a familiar look of resigned irritation in his eyes that his scattered acquaintances would plainly recognize.

The room around him is also in shambles. Chairs have been broken up and thrown around, the coffee table (with plant on top of it) has been entirely overturned, lamps are shattered to pieces, and the curtain is tattered in such a way that it vaguely looks like someone (or something) decided to take a rather large bite out of them.

Waver let out a startled yelped when the feed rocked-- as if he were sitting on top of something...]

...Well. It might be better if I show you.

[With the video feed panning down, Waver revealed a rather innocuous looking trunk. It was clearly an antique, with ancient wood panels darkened with the patina of age and many haphazard attempts at polishing. There were scratches along it's lid and sides, as if it had seen many a battlefield and somehow returned alive and unscathed....

And anyone with the senses to reveal it would notice a particularly malevolent aura that surrounded the otherwise innocent looking trunk.

Innocent.....except for the glimpse of sharpened mahogany teeth that could be seen under the lid as it shifted restlessly underneath the weight of every single living being in the house.]

This is a legendary beast from the libraries of Sanctuary, [Waver explained, in a weary voice that was edged with annoyance.] No one knows how old it is-- just that it's particularly fond of salted crisps, the occasional spearow, and the safety of the few of us that it followed in to Union.

[The 'few' meaning 'one,' but Waver wasn't about to out his good friend from the libraries.]

We call it the Luggage, and in Sanctuary everyone was just content to let it be. But, in Union? I don't think that's possible.

[A sigh. The video feed returned to the tired looking young man.]

It's also a ghost-type...and an electric-type, which I never understood. Legendary beasts are just that, though. Legends. Why try to understand a force of nature?

But it's also becoming harder to handle here, and we don't want it taking over the local library. That's why I'm opening the floor to suggestions, because maybe the scientists and engineers here can figure out something that the Magi couldn't.

[He shrugged, an gesture that seemed to indicate that he didn't expect anyone to answer. Just before he closed out the feed, he could be heard muttering something about needing to clean this entire blasted mess up before someone returns to the house...]

[Action-- including Saber, Rincewind, and anyone else who makes it a point to harrass them.]

[Anyone wandering near Waver's place of residence would be treated to the sight of various parties, both human and pokemon, running around and screaming at eachother-- as there seemed to be a fight happening between an aggressive Gabite, a grumpy Skitty, and, strangely, an ancient trunk that seemed to move of it's own accord.

Disturb at your own risk. No one can guarantee your safety.

[Taki's not the sort that really mingles well. He tends to keep to himself, even if he's amicable and friendly when he is around others. It's not that he doesn't like people, it's that he's in a constant state of keeping himself at arm's length, and others at two. Which is my explanation for not making a second post with him since APRIL.]

[Late evening, his Warp Band feed pops on and Mari, his Skitty, makes a startled noise and it clatters to the side, showing a clearing of trees near the Dwarfhouse. Anyone paying enough attention to the feed would notice a periodic flash of sparking yellow light that would illuminate the form of the aforementioned Battalion agent, punching at trees like a boxer.]

[It's a few minutes of this before he notices the light from the band and swears under his breath.]

Mari, don't play with that--

[His hand comes into view and the feed shuts off.]

[For those so inclined, a short time after the feed shuts off Taki will be stalking out of the woods behind the Dwarfhouse, knuckles slightly bloodied and a frustrated look on his face, but a very happy Skitty perched on his head.]

[Anyone walking around the Business and Entertainment Districts today may be treated to an odd sight: an unfamiliar woman, small and pale, dressed to the nines for... no apparent reason. Sure, the way she walks with no regard for distractions might indicate she has a destination, but now that she and the young Drifloon and Snorunt trailing behind her have passed every establishment in the area thrice over, one might start to think that she's lost.

For the more observant, that conclusion may come even sooner due to the lack of Warp Band on the woman's wrist, despite the Pokemon who are obviously following her. For the most observant, one might spot bare toes peeking out from the ivory fabric of the woman's dress with every step she takes. Is she walking around barefoot?!

Alright, so maybe she's not just lost. Anybody want to stop this walking disaster?]

b;

[As the tiny group makes it's way around, however, the Snorunt steadily slows, falling further and further behind the woman and the Drifloon. Neither of them notices, the Drifloon too interested in the city sights and sounds, the woman to focused on... whatever she's focused on, until the Snorunt gives a pitiful cry of its name. Finally, the woman turns back and, after a moment's consideration, steps toward the Pokemon, crouching down to scoop it into her arms. Something about the action brings the Snorunt a modicum of relief, but it's still rather distressed. Unfortunately, the woman doesn't appear to be in a rush to do much else...]

[Yuuna's been notably absent from Union for most of the last week. She's had her reasons, mostly a sudden and urgent need for a few days away from it all. She'd taken her Pokemon, Merrill had gotten a goodbye kiss, and that'd been about it. And those few days away? Had been extremely eventful.

The video feed opens to the sight of a bedraggled Yuuna with hair sticking up all over the place, a little grubby from traveling, and with an odd flicker in her eyes. A Politoed's hands visible on the edges of the camera, the little goober holding it so she can speak.]

Sorry I've been gone the last few days, if anyone was worried. Probably should've been better about keeping in touch. I know Right came looking, and that means I probably should've cancelled class and that's on me. Anyone who was expecting lessons? I'll be doing free makeups starting tomorrow. Get in touch and we'll bang out a time.

[She swallows and looks away for a minute.]

I've had some really big things happen though, out in the mountains. Some pretty...crazy...stuff to be honest. [Slowly she steps over the threshold of the city gate, almost like that act in and of itself was important.]

I'm not really sure how to say it. Considering that a lot of people I know had this happen when they were teenagers or kids? I'm not sure it's even that big a deal to most of you, but I figured it wasn't something that would ever happen to me. [She holds up her right fist.] Hell, I can't really say that I'm sure how to even begin to put all this into words. So. I guess I'll just have to show you.

[Closing her eyes she concentrates, visibly relaxing, and her fist begins to glow. Electricity leaps and sparks along her hand.]

I'm not really sure why, but...yeah. I'm definitely not who I was when I left, at least not entirely.

[And then the feed closes down.]

Action Around Union:

[Yuuna spends the next few hours walking from street to street, looking over places, old haunts like cafes, the Dojo, the Theater, the Pokemon Habitat her dad's Workshop in the Industrial District, Ranger HQ, and eventually...home. Friends are more than welcome to stop her. She's just got a lot of stuff on her mind and a lot more to think about ahead of her.]

[Today’s warp band feed features two individuals, and one massive gigantic grey blob. Friends might recognize Yosuke Hanamura and Yukiko Amagi. And some might even guess that blob is the infamous “Snor-Lord” but then they might also easily not, because really he’s just kind of a dweeb. There’s a serious look in the teenager’s eyes, like they have something incredibly serious to say. And even the infamous outlaw Snorlax seems quieter than usual.]

Hey. So, Yukiko and I sorta had an encounter the other day. Like, one of the divine kind.

[He takes a deep breath.] One of the gods contacted us. And it had some pretty important things to say.

[Yukiko’s head dips as she greets the viewers, and she pushes up her glasses before speaking in an equally solemn voice.]

It was a god named Suicune. It said it was the North Wind. The...Gale that brings the frost. One of the winter gods, I’d guess. It had kinda a lot to say, but it was really...um...weird, mostly because it wanted us to ask questions and not the other way around.

[He nods, looking at her and then back to the feed.]

And the answers we got weren’t exactly good. [She breaks in with a nod.] No, they really weren’t.

[He takes another breath, trying to recall everything to the best of his ability.]

We asked about Gigas, and Sanctuary. Turns out the gods have an opinion on them, too.

[She takes a breath as well, and Snor-Lord’s hands drop down onto both of their shoulders. The big brute leans in between them and grunts.]

It also said a few things about the gods too, and how they think. Like...they definitely are testing us. And they have a reason. But it didn’t say what, and it seemed like it was working for another god. Which I guess points to a kind of hierarchy?

[Snor-Lord nods again and speaks in a serious series of Snors/Laxes/Snorlaxs.]

Yeah, it was also kind of a jerk. Talkin’ about manners like a big lamer.

[Yosuke rolls his shoulder in irritation, not wanting the big pokemon’s hand there.]

Get your paws offa me! Anyway, it was seriously freaky. Especially with what it had to say. But we couldn’t sit here and keep this to ourselves. We’ll be here if anyone’s got any questions.

((ooc: Replies will come from either Yosuke and Yukiko and Snor-Lord, and if you prefer action they’re in one of the residential district parks. If you want a joint thread or one of them specifically, let us know in your header!

Union. We need to have a talk.

I love you. I do. But I'm done with caves with this place for the rest of my life. Done.

I'm. Business is on hold for a little while. I'm not allowed out of bed.

[And off the feed goes.]

[Action: Dwarfhaus. OPEN]

[True to his words, Hayato is ACTUALLY in bed. He's been threatened by a number of people that he has to or else he'll be chained down instead. He's not used to being this easy to beat up so it's kind of humbling that he's actually in this position.]

[He didn't get this beat up during SANCTUARY so it's ...sure a thing to find your limits when you're not used to having them.]

[Being Enhanced be damn he hurt. It was the first time he was ever glad for his body glitching out periodically and going numb.]

[Anyone heading over to check on him will find him disgruntledly staring at the ceiling while Goro tends to him. Goro for once, is not using violence to show he cares. Instead he's actually taking care of him. Wow.]

As the characters arrive, they will find what appears to be a rather deep cavern. Upon entering, the caverns are quite narrow, with twists and turns everywhere and different tunnels that all seem to be interconnected. As characters travel deeper within the caverns, reality around them will start to warp, they will start to see and hear things that aren’t necessarily there - images of old enemies, past failures, voices of condemnation, visions that strike at the soul and core of the characters. Once this begins, it will only increase in power and volume, demanding it be confronted, lest they be trapped within these caves forever.

[OOC: This event will run for a week. All characters who enter the caves will be subject to some of their deepest fears, darkest demons, and most abject failures. To overcome them, characters must help each other out, finding their purpose through strength of character and resolve to move forward. In general, these visions should require characters to come to grips with themselves. Illusory images and voices can and will appear and can take any number of forms, depending on what is most appropriate to a character. Additionally, characters may thread with each other and are encouraged to help each other out to overcome these personal demons. For those who wish to take part, they are able and encouraged to narrate their own personal demons, which will be on display for everyone who enters their thread. IC threads may be made in this post.]

How has everyone been? Cordelia and I have been quite busy of late, my apologies for being unavailable. Married life is, as it happens, keeps your free time rather limited, but I must say it is highly recommended! The recent contact with the city of Sanctuary has lead to some rather interesting revelations! I'd always noticed my abilities were somewhat different from that of the normal Enlightened. Once I learned the name, it all fell into place, and my eyes were able to reveal the truth. Apparently, I am Magi, as the Enlightened of Sanctuary are. It's a rather fascinating development! I still am not certain how I ended up here at all, but it would explain why nobody has recognized me before. Perhaps I managed to make it near to Union before meeting a grisly end, only to reawaken alive and bereft of memory within the Forest Shrine! At the very least it's interesting to speculate about.

[Today? Your warp band opens up to a feed of a young girl who's fiddling furiously with the controls. A Carbink hovers beside it, sparkling and shining cheerfully. There's not really much going on, but she blinks when it comes to life.]

Oh! It works! Um...hi!

[A wave, and then she pokes the camera with a finger.]

This thing is confusing...

[More fiddling...]

Is everything here just more complicated than it needs to be? I-

[And then whoops, it cuts off.]

Action 1

[In the Residential district there's the distinctive patter of tiny feet and a screeching, child-yelp. The screaming continues and grows louder as a small girl runs by with a Carbink in her arms...pursued by a pair of angry Spearow.]

Stop following me! Go awaaaaay!!

Action 2

[In the library, someone is definitely not being quiet. A little girl's voice echoes down the long rows of books, exclamations of wonder and delight. She's never been allowed in a real library before, and the fact that she's able to touch books that don't belong to the Tohsaka's personal collection is like a Birthday and Winter Festival present rolled together. Rin climbs up and just grabs several big books at random, tottering over to a table and setting them down with a thud. And if someone doesn't stop her, she's going to get a few more...]

Action 3

[Finally, it's getting on towards nighttime and a sleepy Rin is trudging her way home. She'd eluded guardians all day, but even she had to admit that it was time for bed. Only...she doesn't exactly know where that is yet. She'd scampered off in daylight and now it's too dark for her to get her bearings. Is it this fountain or that fountain where you turn left? Was there a Noctowl statue sitting on the roof when she'd come by at noon?

It's troubling enough that she starts by going over to tug the nearest stranger's pant leg.]

[Video, potentially Action in the Canyon]

[The Warp band blinks on at a skewed perspective, a third of the frame filled with the dusty ground of the Canyon. Clearly it came on after someone dropped it. Still, the other two thirds of the frame show a pretty good picture of a strange girl (for those of you who didn't meet her in the woods last week, anyway) kneeling in front of a Shinx and speaking to it with an intense seriousness that doesn't entirely seem fitting for a two-foot-high lion cub.]

I...had not intended to use this "Warp Band" they gave me to bind anyone to my service, little one. I came out here to train, but I recognized when using that device that your warrior's heart was impressive even among all Pokémon, and...

[The Shinx pads up and starts rubbing its head on Saber's knee.]

Er...

[She doesn't even care about the static charge.]

That is to say, I swear to protect and teach you as a human trainer would, and--

[It actually starts purring.]

[Today's broadcast blinks on to show Yuuna out at the gate, standing there in a different outfit than usual. No Ranger's jacket, but a beat up looking traveler's outfit of good, sturdy make. She's got an oddly reflective look about her.]

Anyone ever stopped to think about how life was before all the recent upheaval? I don't mean all the fighting and the strange things the gods have been throwing at us, though. I mean before Union really opened up to the outside. Back when we thought that we were the only humans left alive. So much has changed, and hell...it's like the world we grew up in changed overnight.

[Beside her, something shimmers, and a near exact copy of Yuuna seemingly flows into view. It's eyes are just a bit off though, lighter than hers, and it waggles a finger.]

I don't mean all the new Pokemon we've discovered, or the new people we've encountered. But that's definitely a big shift if this guy is any indication. I mean, it's been a whole year as of today since I left Union for the first time...and I was one of the later trainers to really go out on my own.

[She huffs a laugh at the Ditto-Yuuna and shakes her head.]

I never thought I'd fight a god, or in a war. I definitely never thought I'd spend a week in the body of a man, or that I'd find a whole new species of Pokemon that die if they stop bouncing. And heh...I'm not even going to start trying to describe meeting the Savior. But it's been a hell of a year.

[The Ditto makes a face, wiggling it's tongue.]

Anyway. I've been uselessly nostalgic long enough. But indulge me, folks. What are some things you thought you'd do that got turned on their heads this last year?

Action, Verdant Forest

[And just like she'd done a year ago, Yuuna takes a trip through the Verdant Forest, walking down those old familiar paths. This time, though, she's got a trio of very different Pokemon. A Magnezone, Politoed, and Hitmonchan. They'd evolved, all three of her oldest friends, and the wilds all around them didn't seem quite so mysterious anymore. She's got an arm hooked around the Hitmonchan's shoulders, walking casually, the two of them pointing to various things and sharing a quiet joke here and there.

If they happen to meet someone, they'll get a friendly wave.]

Heya, out for a walk too? Care for company?

Action, The Coastal Ruins (For Merrill)

[Yuuna'd decided to go down that way with Merrill later on, a little bit of an outing to give the place another once over, see if there was much of interest there. She had some of her stronger types on the warp band, but the only one she had out? Was the newbie. A little Zorua who'd yet to prove herself, simply named Shinko, trotted along ahead of the two explorers, snuffling the ground while they talk quietly.]

[On your way to/from Caldera for the festivities? Wandering out in search of Pokémon? Fleeing from a flock of Spearow? Odds are that you might run into a Honedge wandering the woods. They're not completely uncommon in Union, but finding them in the wild outside of ruins is almost unheard of. Too bad it's not Shiny...]

[It's definitely behaving oddly, though. Rather than going for the immediate attack, as many Wild Pokémon do, it's...lurking. Observing, actually. It's too honorable to lurk. But it seems to be hesitating about approaching for a little bit.]

[At this point, you can choose your path, almost like it's some sort of visual representation of a novel with multiple options given to the reader:]

1

[Approach the Honedge with Pokémon ready to attack, or with a Warp Band as if you're about to try to bond it (she, actually), and she'll unsheathe herself, ready for a fight.]

2

[Start speaking plainly, or wait long enough for the Honedge to get comfortable, and the Honedge Shifts into the form of a young lady in an old-fashioned dress, who immediately bows in greeting.]

It's the morning of the 21st and it's clear even to the inexperienced Unionite, Refugee, or Citadel resident that the city has a different air to it. If it wasn't the atmosphere that got them, then the stalls lining the streets would. Many people are still working on getting set up for the night festival, but the stalls that are complete are lining many corners and they are filled to the brim with bright colors. From afar, the streets look like someone threw a rainbow of paint across the city.

They haven't seen anything yet.

It's not yet time for the festivities so any visitors are free to wander the streets. The natives seem to be delighted if amused at all the people interested in the holiday and are happy to sell anyone as much colored powder as the want. Sometime close to noon is when things change. The natives all kind of stop what their doing. The colored stalls start to close up and everyone looks tense.

A long, rattling trumpet sound rings through the streets and that is when all hell breaks loose.

Hey, city. Everyone still winding down after that battle? I'm still not quite sure what to make of it, but I guess we'll see what happens.

[That sounded more like a shitty attempt as small talk more than anything.]

So! Day of Fire is coming up! I don't know if you Unionites have ever heard of it, but that's what we call the summer solstice in Caldera. It's a lot of fun. It's basically just one huge party all throughout the night with dancing and singing and the Throwing of the Colors. You guys should go check it out, you won't regret it.

[His smile is much more genuine this time, at least. It honestly looks like he's got a secret he won't tell. Mostly its that he hopes Union comes and they are delighted and aghast at literally everything that transpires for this holiday. But also he feels like you guys need to lighten up and have fun. It's with that he ends the feed.]

[Action, near Downtown. OPEN]

[Hayato was never a guy who stayed at home. He could always be found out doing something.]

[This time it looks like he's trying to train one of his pokemon. He's crouched down with an Aron in front of him. In front of the Aron is two things- a small pile of scrap metal and a nice looking dagger of some kind.]

Okay. So, let's go over this again. This [He gestures to the scrap] is NikonFood. This? [He points to the weapon.] Is not food. It is Thorin's livelihood. We do not eat Thorin's livelihood okay?

[Nikon the Aron nods.]

Now, what do you eat?

[So the feed on the Warp Band is a little fuzzy. There's a loud, obnoxious KROW and then some muffled shushing while the camera tries to adjust itself. Eventually what can be seen is a bespectacled teenager with a huge obnoxious bird sitting on his shoulder looking into the band skeptically.]

[He blinks after a moment and then gives a toothy grin.]

Oh man, I think it's working. I can't believe I missed so much. How long have we had video on these things? I'm so mad, I've been gone for practically a million years.

[His grin fades, as does his excitement.]

So uh. Hey, Union. None of you probably remember me but my name's John Egbert. I'm an actor at the Union Divine Theater and I've been out travelling for a while so I missed practically everything. Anyone wanna catch me up?

It's nice to be-- [And he's abruptly cut off by the Murkrow cawing loudly into the feed. John shoves him off his shoulder.] Holy shit, can you not do that for like four seconds!? Ugghh.

[The feed ends with him being comically put out while the bird seems to be flying around him cawing JUST TO BE OBNOXIOUS.]

[Locked to the Union Divine Theater]

[It's been a few days since he's been in town, but honestly? When he got back he went straight home, got crushed into a hug from his dad for three whole hours, went to sleep and THEN decided to come by the theater. It's been a long year and he's glad to be back honestly.]

[He pushes open the doors and looks around. He wonders who all is here now? How many new members have they gotten? He wondered if the Commander was going to chew him out for being like. seven months late with his report. Ah, well.]

[He's left Sprite- his Murkrow- with the habitat so trailing in after him is his Goomy. Anyone walking the theater will see a familiar (or unfamiliar) kid going through the papers and fliers sitting at the ticket counter.]

[The residents of Union may find a new face walking the streets upon everyone's returned from the battlefield that was Sanctuary. A slim young man, short of stature, with a notebook in hand traversed the city corridors with wide, curious, and somewhat apprehensive eyes-- it was as if he had never seen anything quite like this before.

A few people may even suspect that the notion is completely true.

Peeking out the top of the heavy looking bag slung across his shoulders is a tiny Foongus, unawares that the markings on his red and white cap are providing excellent camoflage for the few pokeballs that are hidden within. Occassionally it may chitter and squeak in excitement, but it largely stays quiet.

After all, the young academic is on a mission.

Waver flits in and out of various shops, eyes sharp as he seemed to look for something very particular. Several somethings, to be exact-- or someones. Though he had only spoken to a few people in Sanctuary, he wanted to give the few he had interacted with a proper thank you somehow. He wasn't certain how to go about doing that, but the lack of certainty had never stopped him before.

Besides keeping in line with proper politeness, there were further things that he needed. The bag he carried was the only thing he brought with him on his travels, and he's well aware that he needs more than what was currently packed. Clothes, for the heat of summer that was slowly blanketing the streets. Books, food, and tea were also on the list.

And a place to sleep. And a job.

He may not look like much, but he was more than able and willing to prove to everyone that it was horrifically unwise to judge the contents of a book by the condition of its cover.]

[It isn't that unusual to find Ishimaru out for a walk on the weekends, but this time he isn't the one leading the pack. Truthfully, he hasn't been acting quite the same ever since he came back from Sanctuary. Worry lines were creased deep into his forehead, dark bags became more prevalent under his eyes, and even in class he seemed distant, far away. If he'd been sleeping at all, it hadn't been well. Some part of the prefect just seemed fundamentally broken, and it's clear he's been trying to pick himself up, but to no success.

His Blaziken and his Watchog have taken that initiative for him this time, trying to cheer their trainer up. Even his usually curious and impulsive Blaziken was hanging back just a little, holding Ishimaru's hand gently in his talon and guiding him along. Watchog is perhaps a little less on-task, occasionally running off as she spots a candy wrapper in a trash bin, but her trainer seems too drained to properly discipline her.

In the end, it had been Yukiko's evolution that saved them - not the efforts and passions of an ordinary man, but the epitome of natural, in-born talent, the kind he could never hope to gain. And as grateful as he is for her sacrifice, to be alive, as grateful as he is that everyone else is alive, there's a voice in the back of his mind telling him he failed. Failed his city, failed his family, but most of all, failed everything he believes in. That's not even taking into account the atrocities committed by Sanctuary, those horrors he can barely stand to stomach, wildly different than any of his first impressions of the place.

War leaves a lot to weigh on your mind.]

It’s just after midnight when the column arrives outside of Sanctuary, shrouded in darkness under the pitch black of a new moon. Bordered by mountains to the north, the city has two primary gates to the West and the East, both of which are shut tight with massive oaken doors, centuries old and further secured with an antique portcullis. The city itself is surrounded by walls of stone, easily one-fourth the height of those found in Union and about twice the height of many of the homes, sturdy stone buildings with triangular roofs, about the same size as Calderan homes. Like Union, there are many towers within the city, but unlike Union, the towers are cold, aloof structures that stand alone with no connection to the other towers. The city itself is stone, cold, gray, and unfeeling, with small drops of light from streetlamps which line the streets, emitting an eerie blue-white glow. This is Sanctuary. Home of the Magi, conquered by Gigas for forty years. This is the city that must be reclaimed.

[OOC: If you did not choose to take the Pokeballs (you don’t have to have affirmed in an NPC thread, it’s entirely up to the character), they may have either 1 large Pokemon or 2 small Pokemon.
