The morning after the meteor shower, things start as they always do. Union’s gearing up for another day: people going to work, shops opening, kids heading to school, and foremen getting their crews to work on the last of the damage left by Kyurem’s rampage through the city. It’s just an ordinary day, with only a passing thought given to yesterday’s odd occurrences by anyone outside the scientific and psychic communities. There’s some very real theories floating around there, but there’s little real chance at anything solid coming from the discourse. At least, until reports start coming up Route 1 from the single port started by one Union entrepreneur two years ago. It’d grown quickly with Gigan help, seaborne trade flowing up the lone road, and now it was completely overrun.

Panicked sailors and land crew come streaming up the way, nursing hundreds and hundreds of Bug-type induced injuries. Beedrill stings, Spinarak bites, and photographs of several enormous members of a new species that’d yet to be recorded quickly circulate and prompt Council response. Whatever these things are, they’re clearly hostile and the risk of damage to the city itself seems likely given how quickly the port had been overwhelmed.

With the city still shaken by Kyurem’s attack, the Council wasted no time. The call to arms was put out and trainers hastily sent out to deal with the sudden intrusion. Anyone willing and able to fight was asked to head down the road as quickly as possible, with the intent of sorting this out and either diverting the tide or stopping the invasion cold. The road itself is deserted, abandoned wagons left in a hurry, and not a single wild Pokemon can be heard for miles. It’s almost like they were aware something big was coming, and even the more aggressive types clearly opted to clear out.

When it comes into view, the port itself seems to be in particularly bad shape. Smoke rises up into the horizon, and hundreds and hundreds of Bug types swarm all over the structures, chewing away at the wood and stone. But perhaps the most troublesome sight is the beings that are overseeing the attack. Several members of the new species, fifteen feet tall at minimum, twenty at the peak, direct the swarm in its efforts. And further out to sea, a singularly massive specimen, some forty feet tall, watches it all, hunched forward, dark eyes gleaming with interest as its minions go to work…

[The change in seasons, from summer to autumn, was subtle to most people who lived and thrived on the lands across the continent. The heat of the season still lingered, but with each passing day it seemed that the winds grew brisker and dusk came just a little quicker. But, in the winding streets of Sanctuary, both Magi and Earthkin alike expressed their deepest, most heartfelt emotions in a rare show of unity between the two populations-- for charms and solemn ceremonies of Tenebris, conducted to honor the fallen from the ancient cataclysm that rent the world asunder, didn’t discriminate between those born in the gleaming towers and those born on the streets. The week long remembrance and the celebration that followed was the only time of the year when everyone could set aside their frustrations and treat everyone as equals.

Even the city itself seemed changed. Shopkeepers and housewives scoured and scrubbed every surface on their homes and the lands surrounding them, and even the students at the Academy took time in between their studies to sweep out their rooms and dust off their bookshelves. Tenebris was more than a memorial, but a celebration of new beginnings as well.

Then, at midnight on the last night, the somber silence that had befallen the city suddenly broke with an explosion of lights and colors-- for Lumens had come, and the celebration of Sanctuary’s founding and it’s promise to preserve and share the light of knowledge with the world had begun. Colorful lanterns gleamed at every street corner, and few could be recognized behind the brilliant masks they had donned for the second week of celebration.

And, on the eve of the equinox that fell on the last day, the whole of the city gathers together as one body and releases a flurry of lanterns to dance among the stars in the night as a renewal of that ancient promise the Seer had made to the world: The towers would exist so long as there was knowledge to preserve, and the curious were welcome to come and seek it. The heart of the city would beat proudly for them, and anyone in time could come to understand it.]

[Once the dust settles, Sinbad's leading his newly bonded gengar, Furfur the growlithe around on a tour of the city, he could be found all over: Teeter's, The habitat, the marketplace, the libraries. He has a backpack with a small amount of groceries on his back]

You're free to go anywhere you please - people don't mind at all.

You humans like to build high.

Yeah, pretty dizzying isn't it? I hope you don't mind heights.

I float. Of course I don't mind heights, idiot.

[Sinbad stops, giving an annoyed, long-suffering sigh]

Are you ever going to stop calling me that?

No.

Oh! Ja'far! Be careful not to phase through anyone!

Not my fault they're not paying attention.

[The two proceed to bicker, not too seriously though, the gengar hoving lazily, not watching for people, and Sinbad gesturing vividly as he speaks, while Furfur looks between the two, and the three are kind of in the way, so now what?]

Union?

[It was a rare day when Waver Velvet addressed the public of Union as a whole, but this day something about him seemed off. He seemed more bothered, more irritable than normal-- not that the little Nincada that was sitting on his head seemed to care. It drummed it's little feet happily on Waver's head, glad to be there for it's trainer in this strange time.

Heaving a sigh, Waver continued:]

Let's take a poll. Who here has been having weird dreams for the last couple of days? I need to know for academic reasons.

[...And, that was all. Waver scratched his cheek, feeling awkward and embarrassed about this entire problem that he was having.]

Don't worry about when you reply. I don't think I'll be getting to sleep any time soon.

[And, with that, the feed abruptly shut off.

Respond, Union?]

[ a - in the library ]

[ Tucked away in the most obscure corner of the library he could find, someone has set up what looks like a veritable fortress of books in their study carrel. Passersby can't even see the person's head. Just the scratching of what sounds like a quill pen on parchment. Every now and then a book gets added to the pile from behind it, swapped for another brick in the wall.

Unfortunately, the book you came here to get (or a book on a subject you enjoy) is a part of this mighty fortress. Do you storm the castle? ]

[ b - a park in union ]

[ Despite its proclivity for academic pursuits, Sanctuary (or its peasants, anyway) has managed to invent a sport called Foote-the-Balle. First debuted at the World's Fair with an...unusual...projectile, it's more commonly played with a ball made of wood or cloth.

The boy kicking a ball around here has a cloth one. And he's not kicking it so much as doing tricks with it in the middle of the park, to the admiration of a crowd of onlookers. Look, see. He can pass it from one foot to the other in midair. He can bounce it off his chest. Off his head. And when he shoots it -

Well, when he shoots it, you'd better not be in the way. ]

[ c - verdant forest ]

[ The young boy out in Verdant Forest this afternoon bears very little resemblance to the one kicking the foote-the-balle ball around earlier. For one thing, he's in full Mage robes. For another thing, his dark hair is spiky, not lying flat in Waver's a bad haircut. And furthermore, he's wearing a mask across his eyes.

That definitely means he's a completely different person.

He's also clenching his fists and menacing a Bidoof, which doesn't look scared so much as just sad and kind of over all of this. Perhaps it doesn't understand what's wrong. ]
Fool! You're from the Lake Shrine - you have to be capable of learning a Water move! How has your species possibly managed to survive?!

[ And he kicks the Bidoof right in the stomach. It makes a sound like a loaf of bread being socked and rolls over. So he stamps on it for good measure, then stands back. ] Once again from the top. You will learn Water Gun. And then Caldera will pay!

[ From behind a tree, a Venipede watches sadly. ]

It's the morning of the 19th and it's clear even to the inexperienced traveler that the city has a different air to it. If it wasn't the atmosphere that got them, then the stalls lining the streets would. Many people are still working on getting set up for the night festival, but the stalls that are complete are lining many corners and they are filled to the brim with bright colors. From afar, the streets look like someone threw a rainbow of paint across the city.

They haven't seen anything yet.

It's not yet time for the festivities so any visitors are free to wander the streets. The natives seem to be delighted if amused at all the people interested in the holiday and are happy to sell anyone as much colored powder as they want. They are glad to explain the fascinating origins of the holiday or even talk shop about what they're planning to show off later in the night. It seems that not even the gloom and unease that might have rolled into town with Union has caused these people to falter with their grandest tradition.

Sometime close to noon is when things change. The natives all kind of stop what they're doing. The colored stalls start to close up and everyone looks tense. Those who visited last year might take this as their cue to get ready.

A long, rattling trumpet sound rings through the streets and that is when all hell breaks loose.

It's every person and pokemon for themselves. Have fun everyone.

While Union was happy to agree to a ceasefire with Gigas and treat with them in earnest, it seems the Seekers have held some suspicions of the great Empire for awhile now. And thus, enlisting in the help of a few hand-picked Union agents, they stole into the deepest vaults of Gigas, hoping to recover items of great power and learn the truth about the city’s purported guardian gods.
bravenewmods: (Default)
[personal profile] bravenewmods
The City of Gigas is unlike anything the people of Union have ever seen before. The city is immense, a sprawling metropolis that covers the land as far as the eye can see. Built up primarily around enormous centralized towers, unlike Union these towers are dark concrete buildings, covered in glass windows. The buildings seem to serve any number of functions, and have a startling variety in construction, style, and even size, creating a unique skyline that is breathtaking to behold. The city is connected with roads of asphalt, upon which whiz smoke-belching steel carriages at frightful speeds, the engines (and piercing, constant horns) creating an ever-present din that engulfs the city in loud, chaotic sound.

“Downtown,” as the Gigans know it, is a huge collection of stores, apartments, and businesses. Apparently, the larger homes are built in Calderan-style but tend to be further from the main commotion of the downtown areas, of which Gigas citizens assure Union citizens that there are several, each with their own district name and culture. The technology is quite advanced as well, full color televisions are standard in every home and built in devices so slim and with such sharp images that they seem decades ahead of Union’s own technology. Pokemon are still quite present in Gigas, many people riding flying types and the buildings having huge perches to accommodate them. As with the vehicles below, however, Gigas seems to regulate air traffic to individual lanes and the birds seem well-trained as they convey their trainers to and fro.

Humans are just that, here, Human. No unusual shapes and sizes like the Enlightened and Earthkin of the Union Alliance, and those displaying unusual traits receive odd looks. Like many civilizations to the east, Battling is a common sport though in this place it’s more like the combat arenas of old. Several stadiums dot the cityscape, the sounds of Pokemon Battles and cheering crowds echoing for blocks all around, and it’s a stadium where humans are not welcome. Unless, of course, they want to make a show and spar against a Pokemon, of course.

This is Gigas, the City of Reclamation. Union civilians have free rein to explore this grand city as councillors are invited into the massive capitol building to negotiate with the Gigan leaders. Gigas civilians, for their part, are polite, friendly even. While many of them are caught in the bustle of their daily lives they regard Union citizens with interest and curiosity, willing to talk about their city, extolling its virtues while complaining about the noise, the crowds, the lines, and the expense all the while. One thing is clear though, the people of Gigas are proud of their city and their accomplishments. This is their home, and they are eager to show it off to the world.

[ Tap tap. ]

Ah! It's on!

[ Also right up in her face, so enjoy a close up of her eye - wincing a bit before she pulls back, setting it on a desk. The apartment behind her is a bit sparse, although the bed has a few stuffed animals on it (and an Azurill, that, napping, looks like one) and posters of some musicians around Union.

Ranka grins, and a Caterpie crests her head, staring down at the camera. Okay, cute head tilt, and a small wave, and ignore the blushing and butterflies in her stomach and she's golden. ]

Hi everyone! I'm Ranka Lee and I just finally got this video... function so I thought I'd just... put myself out there and say hi to everyone.

[ She can save doing better for when she's got an actual stage. ]

I'm still pretty new to Union, although I've been here for over a week. I can hardly imagine growing up here. Right now I'm just getting myself really settled in making a living, but I hope to someday, uh, break out as a... a singer.

[ And that was just kind of lame. Her grin wavers a bit. ]

This girl on my head right now - [ She pats the Caterpie. ] - is Cathy, and behind me on the bed is my adorable little Bobby. I'm also working at the Lucky Spoon as well, so I hope we get to meet all of you in person sometime! Um, see you around...

[ Video off, time to slam into the bed and blush and take deep breaths. ]

[Action, Lucky Spoon]

title or description

[ From the moment she'd arrived, Union had been way too much to take in - there was no preparing for it really. Caldera had always felt big, compared to its near surroundings, but the sheer size and proportions almost seemed impossible to Ranka when she'd arrived. A city of such grand scale had to have a niche for everyone, though, Ranka was convinced of that, and yet actually making a career out of her voice seemed more distant than ever.

It turned out that a few jobs singing ad jingles and looking cute for a photo here or there didn't quite pay the bills.

With that realization tucked away in the back of mind, Kaname Minamino had been a lifeline for Ranka; she had experience serving food, Kaname's parents owned the Lucky Spoon, and that made it one of the most likely places to run into her, whether she was waiting tables with the assistance of a bouncy Azurill or wolfing down a snack on break while trying to feed the little fairy at the same time, talking to it almost like she was having a coherent conversation.

Hopefully no one recognizes her from the natto thing she got saddled with the other day. ]

After weeks of repairs, tightened sanctions on incoming immigrants and the general feeling of unease that hangs heavy around the city of Union, the Council finally comes to a decision. It is not unanimous by any accounts, and there are many that wonder if this is the right approach. Union has existed for generations behind its great walls, and there were those who felt that it was that way of life that they should return to—one of solitude and skepticism. However, in light of recent events, the desire for security has own over the need for seclusion.

An announcement comes over the Warp Band, still hazy from the attacks on the Signal Tower. But it is not the face of a Councilmen that the citizens and visitors of Union are met with, but, rather, the youthful face of one of the leaders of the Seekers.

“Citizens and friends of Union—is that seriously what they wrote? Man, it feels weird talking like that, can I just say ‘hey you guys?’ Whatever. Everyone. We’ve got some big news, so listen up.” Maeve groans at the feed, tossing aside some paper, likely an official statement penned by some Council member. “So, the Council has decided that they want to take a more proactive approach after the attack by Sveta, Alina and their friends, and it comes to me to give you the juicy details.”

Okay, actually maybe she did need that paper. Leaning over in her chair, she ducks off the stream to reclaim the statement. “The Council has asked for volunteers to come together and investigate three possible leads for both our ‘friends’ with the Elite Four, Gigas, as well as some interesting goings-on in and around Refuge: a settlement to the west with supposed ties to Gigas; the inner caves of Refuge; and to the east of Glacier, in the direction which the great dragon fled.

“Now don’t all come flooding in all at once, I know how you Unionites get excited about stuff like this. Groups will disembark immediately, so get any supplies you can and meet up at the Seeker’s HQ before heading out. You’ll be given briefs upon your assignment into a group. If you have any questions, you can ask me or Captain Pirate Krabbypants, Ceilto. Maeve, out.”

Once they arrive, each person will be assigned a group, and after a quick briefing, begin moving to their destination within the day. Most take no more than a few days to arrive at their destination, and will immediately be put to work.

[All event logs are now live! As usual, mod tags will come every 24 hours. Feel free to post all IC questions to the Maeve top level and all OOC questions in the standard mod top level. During this log, several NPCs from prior events may appear. The event is scheduled to last a week and will end at midnight on the morning of March 5th.]

Hi everyone! The Spearowfeathers have decided to start carrying something to be a little pick-me-up for the people of Union. We're proud to introduce...

[She removes the lid, and underneath is a steamed bun. Little tendrils of steam rise up from it.]

...the Mabo Curry Bun! It's a spicy Calderan dish, but it's held inside of a delicious steamed bun. It's hot, it's tasty, and it'll get you going! For the next two weeks, we're giving them away for free for lunch at our stand!

It'll help everyone keep their strength up for rebuilding.

The itching was the worst. He supposes it gave him more time to write and to his annoyance, get his business books balanced, but he was bored! And a major case of cabin fever. So he turns on his warp band again]

Hey guys! I'm... still stuck here, but good news, I'm suppose to get this stupid cast off tomorrow! Bad news is, my writing hand's all cramped up and I'm bored! Got any idea of what I can do?

[Action]

[Meanwhile, while Sinbad's talking, Furfur, Focalor, and Valefor decided to take it on themselves to get their human's stories spread out, and sneaked out with the manuscripts, only for the wind to blow the pages out of their grasp, sending it flying all over town. Hopefully anyone who recognizes themselves in the description wouldn't be too mad about the little embellishments the teenager added to the events.

Or maybe just be nice and help these pokemon gather up the loose pages]

The battle is joined. The gods of Union, while mighty, seem to pale in comparison to the singular dragon of ice. Although they strive mightily to avoid damaging the city, already the mysterious blue dragon has been flung directly into a tower, earning itself a nasty gash over its eye, much to the dismay of the red dragon. While it has rejoined the fight, it is clear that the gods alone are not enough - the people of Union will have to step forward if they are to save their beloved city. The cries of the wounded and terrified citizens echo through the streets as the flames of battle rage. Now is the time - they must be stopped!

An unsettling calm hung over the streets of Union, a chilly, early morning fog settling in. The words of their newest visitors were unwelcome, and when word spread that the two would be leaving at sunrise, the people were grateful, if not a bit apprehensive. The Elite Four, their Champion, and the whole of Ever Grande—their radical ideologies were not only off-putting, but their methodology was more than a bit off-putting. They would need to be watched, closely.

In the early hours of the morning, warp bands around Union buzzed with life, a gentle light spilling from the devices. “Hello again, friends.”

It was her.

Her voice rang clear, and while her face wasn’t present, one could hear the smile in her voice. “I hope I didn’t wake any of you up. I wanted to thank you all for being so hospitable to Alina and myself, at least initially. But talk about the Union chill. Normally I like a little cold, but this is a bit much.

“When we first heard about Union, we were excited. Finally, we had found a worthy ally for our cause. So you can imagine our... disappointment, when we saw your true colors. You’re nothing but cowards! And here I thought, a city championing for peace, who were blessed by the Gods themselves, willing to live alongside pokémon without subjugating them to your will, would be able to understand the world that we wish to create. Instead, you hide behind your wall, hide behind others, and assume that by ‘defending yourself’ or those you deem unable or unfit to fight that you’ve somehow absolved yourself from guilt.”

Her voice grew cold, turning deep; “People like that make me sick.”

“Divinity is wasted on you, to be quite honest.” Her voice bounced again, chipper and clear. “If you can’t walk alongside us, then you’ll only serve as stepping stones toward a peaceful tomorrow. Union, like Glacier and so many other settlements before it, will serve as an example to those who wish to defy the will of the Gods. The pit of humanity needs to learn its place, crawling on its belly in fear from the true inheritors of the earth. We lay ourselves prostrate to their glory!

“Union believes that they’re able to decide what is right and what is just, but I disagree. I bring to you, the divine word of the Gods themselves! Listen well, people of Union, and all others! This is the world we seek to create, our perfect vision of peace! Hear me, O Great One, and come to my aid. Strike down these heretics where they stand!”

BMG: Gates to Infinity: Clash with Kyurem!

Answering Sveta’s call, a great dragon bearing the frost of the deepest winter appeared in the center of the city. With a roar of power, it’s unearthly presence sent waves of fear in the souls of even the bravest citizens of Union. Opening it’s vicious maw, it unleashed an enormous roar, a battle cry of deafening proportions, a Hyper Voice attack! While the sound was ear splitting to all who dwelt within Union, its power was focused. The great Signal Tower, a beacon of Union technology and innovation, began to crack heavily. Jagged scars appeared as chunks of stone fell unbidden from the tower. It still stood—but against such an assault, not for much longer. The force of the blast sent cracks sprawling through nearby towers as panicked shrieks began to echo throughout the city, a chorus of terror at the power of the god before them.

But in that moment, the humans were not alone. Two high-pitched cries met the titanic roar as twin dragons flew to Union’s aid, spiraling around the mighty ice dragon and attacking with twin Dragon Breath attacks. Once again, the great hounds and birds, as well as the Lady of the Moon and the Lord of Nightmares, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Cresselia and Darkrai stood at Union’s side, unleashing their own attacks. The people of Union felt the blessings of the gods with them. Here they would have to stand and fight—drive back the invaders and save their fair city!

Around dinner time, all active Warp Bands come to life, a familiar visitor’s face flooding into view. Sveta looks to be broadcasting from a small, furnished room, likely provided by the council for temporary lodging. The lamplight flickers, and she takes a deep breath, smiling. She can hardly contain her excitement as she begins to speak.

“Hello citizens of Union! As you may know, my name is Sveta, a member of the Elite Four from the distant city of Ever Grande. I, along with my colleague Alina and a few others, came to you a few days ago after hearing the stories of your people, and after speaking at length with those around your beautiful city. I can say now with the utmost conviction that we wish for the same world, a place where pokémon and humans can live together in peace and prosperity. We do not have to be governed by the mistakes of the past; we can walk forward, hand-in-hand, toward a perfect and just future.

“The Gods have brought us together, the people of Ever Grande and the people of Union. I believe that now with every fiber of my being! This is divine fate, it is destiny, and we cannot ignore its call!”

Standing, the view shifts, and her expression changes slightly. While still animated, her eyes flash with excitement, and a bit of disdain.

“But there are those who would stand in our way. They place humanity’s needs first, believe that they are the true inheritors of the earth. That was the type of hubris that nearly eradicated the human race from existence. They deserved that fate. Humanity torched the soil, molded it, corrupted it, poisoned it. They attempted to play God, and they were punished for their transgressions.

The Elite Four will not stand for those that might repeat history to rise again. We, along with the people of Union, will act out the Gods’ will, for we are their chosen. It is our job, no, our duty to educate those who do not wish to see the error of their ways—if not with words, than with action. Those who oppose us will see a quick, merciless end; it is the only way.”
Throwing her arms out for emphasis, the icy crystal holding her hair back glows, and frosty fractals begin to materialize on the molding around her room. Her breath comes out in puffs as her energy level reaches a crescendo.

“That we were born in the same era is a blessing of the Gods themselves! Friends, let us create peace together, one where pokémon can live together in peace and harmony! There is no better time than now. We stand on the precipice of change, and together we can soar toward a brave new world!”

And with that, the feed ends.

Hey, everybody!

[A red-haired girl in her late teens, perhaps early twenties, is leaning towards the Warp Band -- she'd just made sure it was on -- and flashing a smile down at it. It's bright; it's also practiced, like any true saleswoman's would be. She's done this before.]

My name's Rose. You've probably never heard of us, but we're the Spearowfeathers. We're merchants from Caldera, and we decided that we couldn't let Junes have all the fun.

[She winks.]

...So come check us out! We've set our wagon up in the business district, and we're selling some stuff we brought from Caldera -- and from Glacier, too! If you've got any special requests, you can bring those in, too.

I can also help you with trading Pokemon. I'm really good at that.

[Action, a little while later...]

[...unfortunately, things aren't going quite as well as Rose hoped. The wagon is there, sure, but the Gogoat that was pulling it got away an hour ago -- and all of the running in the world just didn't catch up to it. One of the other Spearowfeathers had been training that particular Pokemon. That leaves their wagon tipped over.]

[And with a cracked wheel, which Rose is holding up, and stuff scattered throughout the street. Spearowfeathers -- wearing their tan trousers and blue vests -- are darting to and fro, picking up goods.]

I... guess this could be going worse.

All across Union, its citizens prepared to ring in the Salvation holiday with cheer. Dedicated to their beloved Savior, many of the houses were decorated with garlands, ornaments and other fineries in preparation for this truly special holiday, and while it had been uncharacteristically cold the last few days, not a single flake of snow had fallen. Children eager to start the festivities the following day did their best to stay up in the hopes of possibly catching a glimpse of one of the Delibirds they saw the previous night. However, try as they might, the late night would get the better of them, and soon the city was asleep, nestled warm in their beds, dreaming of parties and presents, candies and cakes.

As they slept, the first snow began to fall, snowflakes silently dancing through the night sky, dusting rooftops and covering sidewalks in pearly white. It would seem that a Salvation miracle was at work in Union that night. The streets were empty, save for a young woman and Pokémon, scarcely visible even in the lamplights. Her steps made no sound, even in the accumulating snow, and she left no footprints, the strange Pokémon by her side taking the time to peer into every window.

Should anyone wake during this peaceful snowfall, they might find the young woman and her companion in their room, transparent as a fog, a placid smile on her face. She did not speak, but simply smiled warmly, almost maternally, before disappearing from view.

When dawn finally broke, the people of Union would find a simple gift within their home, rested alongside a familiar note. The snow from last night coated buildings, streets, and sidewalks, blanketing the city in white and shimmering in the gentle, early morning light.

((OoC: This is a Salvation Mingle Log for all characters. There are decorations and the like in various squares for celebration around Union, so feel free to tag around!))

[Saber is sitting formally in the garden of the house she's...sort of renting and enjoying the brisk air. The professional affect she's going for as she opens the video feed is only slightly ruined by the Litleo tousling with a much larger Luxray behind her.]

Good morning, Union. I don't make much use of these devices, but as I had three questions - one practical, one philosophical, and one simple curiosity - I thought I would take the opportunity to address them generally. Please feel free to pass this video by if you have no interest in idle queries.

Firstly, I wanted to ask whether Union's Swords of the Savior organization is closed to only people from the city itself, or whether they'll accept applications from immigrants. I have been idle here for far too long, and want to give back in a way that makes use of my skills.

[She shifts for a moment as her newest tiny lion gets a little too noisy and reminds him that she's busy with a level stare. It's either very effective training or a very polite Litleo, since he quiets down almost immediately.]

Secondly...perhaps this is more of an observation, but how many humans or Pokémon out there know of Pokémon who chose their own names, or went by a name of sorts in the wild? I never considered myself to need a name until I knew I was going to be interacting with humans, and my understanding was that "nicknames" were a matter of human convenience - a Pokémon knows who she is without being told, at least in my limited personal experience. That said...

[She pauses for a moment, considering, eyes flicking briefly to the side.]

...I might be a little strange in that regard. None of the other Pokémon I've Bonded have asked for names, so to speak, but between their comments and Union's culture, I wonder if it would be appropriate to name my comrades.

[At this point, her Litleo's getting rowdy again. Fortunately, it's at about this time that a third of her Garchomp comes into the frame of the camera and gently plops on top of the kid for use as a hot water bottle.]

And my third question...I've obviously never been part of "Salvation" celebrations before, but I understand that gift-giving is part of the holiday. How...close does one need to be with a friend for a gift to be appropriate? I was a bit lost on Soulfasting, and would very much like not to offend anyone this time around.

[She clears her throat.]

Ah. I've been talking for quite a while. To those who listened, I thank you, and apologize for taking up so much of your time. Perhaps in the future I'll ask questions as they come to me, rather than saving them up for one speech. Again, thank you for your patience.
