[The change in seasons, from summer to autumn, was subtle to most people who lived and thrived on the lands across the continent. The heat of the season still lingered, but with each passing day it seemed that the winds grew brisker and dusk came just a little quicker. But, in the winding streets of Sanctuary, both Magi and Earthkin alike expressed their deepest, most heartfelt emotions in a rare show of unity between the two populations-- for charms and solemn ceremonies of Tenebris, conducted to honor the fallen from the ancient cataclysm that rent the world asunder, didn’t discriminate between those born in the gleaming towers and those born on the streets. The week long remembrance and the celebration that followed was the only time of the year when everyone could set aside their frustrations and treat everyone as equals.

Even the city itself seemed changed. Shopkeepers and housewives scoured and scrubbed every surface on their homes and the lands surrounding them, and even the students at the Academy took time in between their studies to sweep out their rooms and dust off their bookshelves. Tenebris was more than a memorial, but a celebration of new beginnings as well.

Then, at midnight on the last night, the somber silence that had befallen the city suddenly broke with an explosion of lights and colors-- for Lumens had come, and the celebration of Sanctuary’s founding and it’s promise to preserve and share the light of knowledge with the world had begun. Colorful lanterns gleamed at every street corner, and few could be recognized behind the brilliant masks they had donned for the second week of celebration.

And, on the eve of the equinox that fell on the last day, the whole of the city gathers together as one body and releases a flurry of lanterns to dance among the stars in the night as a renewal of that ancient promise the Seer had made to the world: The towers would exist so long as there was knowledge to preserve, and the curious were welcome to come and seek it. The heart of the city would beat proudly for them, and anyone in time could come to understand it.]

[ A: action -- library; Rangers offices ]

[ What Raine would give for a proper night's sleep. But her way of managing through the lack of it is keeping busy, which means taking on an early shift at the library, mostly making sure books are in their proper places (and that certain people aren't building forts with them, not on her watch), and taking mid afternoon trips over to the Ranger offices to deliver research notes and finally begin the task of looking into her tiny corner office and... acknowledging the fact that she has one of those.

And that this room needs to be cleaned and... refurnished and all that fun stuff. B a f f l i n g.

This was the true purpose of having coffee at the ready throughout the day. Her newly-evolved Espeon has been staying nearby, though ducking away when sounds became too loud. Has Raine even eaten, yet? Probably not. ]

[ B: action -- lake shrine ]

[ She doesn't really want to be out here, but someone high up insisted that she take a break, and it so happened that she's had a moody pokemon on hand that seemed to need a change of scenery anyway.

... And, by the size of the pokemon in question, a rather large purple lapras, shrouded in its own mist, the Lake Shrine seemed a suitable enough location to visit. It was peaceful and the shores didn't have as many waves as the ocean.

For her part, she was allowing the Lapras to explore on her own, and some of her other pokemon to wander around. A bulbasaur, happiny and togepi play nearby, watched over by a Petilil. It's a peaceful group. Almost too peaceful. And yet, from where she's situated herself, on a blanket, far enough from the lake and the shrine itself so as not to disturb it, Raine's got her books and paperwork with her even though she's probably supposed to be relaxing, or something. ]

[Funny, Harry figured that with the specter of a Gigas invasion not hanging over his head any longer that he'd be sleeping better not worse. Nonetheless, the past few nights have been restless and filled with dark and ominous dreams. Bad dreams weren't new to the wizard but these felt like something different, and after such a restless night he wasn't going to be doing any effective analyzing of the situation.

So, he decided to blow off some steam and head out for an earlier-than-normal morning jog. And we do mean early. The sun's low enough that the city is still mostly dark thanks to the shadows of the tall buildings blocking it out. The dim streets of Union empty except for the tall man running circuits around the city side-by-side with his giant Stoutland and an overly excited Pachirisu on his shoulder. Maybe he'll run into some people, or maybe he'll even swing by a couple of acquaintances and see if they're up for joining in.

And, naturally, when he's done with all that what better way is there to finish off a morning exercise than by ruining all that hard work by stopping in for coffee and donuts for breakfast? There isn't one. That's why he'll also be stopping in at a donut shop as soon as places begin to actually open.]

[OOC: So, Harry's out for a jog and some breakfast. Run into him and have a good time, or find him getting some breakfast. Feel free to handwave any plans he might have made with anybody to drag them off for a run at the crack of dawn!]

[Elaine appears on screen, looking more than a little distressed. There's a lot of hissing and clacking and thumping.]

I was--

[Suddenly something crashes into the video device, a loud scuffling ball of bug legs rolling past the shot of the hotel room's ceiling light. Elaine's hands come into view as she rescues the device, then retreats to the kitchen where she pulls herself up onto the kitchen counter.]

I was searching for new Pokemon, and was lucky enough to find not just one Anorith, but two. They're rare around here from what I understand.

[Something crashes off-screen, and Elaine's head snaps around. She grimaces, in the way only a direct blow to someone's wallet can inflict true pain.]

But they won't stop fighting over which condiment they like better. If someone would like to adopt one, I'd appreciate it. I also wanted to gauge--

[CRASH. Rheeeeeeeeee! *Hiss*]

..........interest in a massage parlor for Pokemon and people alike.

[She rubs her temple with her fingers.]

Because I think we could all stand a little relaxation now and again. But I'll open one only if there's enough interest, so I don't sink my money into a business no one wants. Let me know.

[Another crash, and a squeal from a very upset Mienfoo snags Elaine's attention again.]

HEY! NO!

[She launches herself off of the counter to go break things up, and the feed ends.]

The opposing armies meet just outside the forest, the more idiosyncratic forces of Union and its allies up against fully-organized Gigan might. Wheeled transports carry many of the enemy troops while strange metal cylinders with rotating blades keeping them aloft swoop around overhead in a near parody of Flying-type Pokémon. And marching among the soldiers and their transports, unmistakable by their bulk, each wearing a metal band around their middles, are the mighty yet enslaved Gods themselves.

The clifflike bulk of Regirock.

The glacial progression of Regice.

The alien presence of Registeel.

And, dead in the center of the formation, towering over them all, the sheer presence of Regigigas, crown jewel of the Emperor’s ill-gotten forces.

There is no attempt to negotiate. No overtures first, no white flags of truce to try working this out. The Gigan army has come to fight, armed with technology. The Union army has come to defend, armed with the bonds between themselves and their Pokémon. This spirit has earned them an additional boon: blessings from the gods who favor Union, who support the humans they believe in with the hopes their comrades can still be rescued.

Thus the battle is joined.

[[ OOC: As noted, all participants in this event get to pick one stat-boosting “blessing” from the gods, just like when they defended from Sveta’s attack. Please note which blessing your character received in their first tag. Also note that Mod tags will come once every 24 hours, unless all characters in the log have replied, then they will come more frequently.]]

It's the morning of the 19th and it's clear even to the inexperienced traveler that the city has a different air to it. If it wasn't the atmosphere that got them, then the stalls lining the streets would. Many people are still working on getting set up for the night festival, but the stalls that are complete are lining many corners and they are filled to the brim with bright colors. From afar, the streets look like someone threw a rainbow of paint across the city.

They haven't seen anything yet.

It's not yet time for the festivities so any visitors are free to wander the streets. The natives seem to be delighted if amused at all the people interested in the holiday and are happy to sell anyone as much colored powder as they want. They are glad to explain the fascinating origins of the holiday or even talk shop about what they're planning to show off later in the night. It seems that not even the gloom and unease that might have rolled into town with Union has caused these people to falter with their grandest tradition.

Sometime close to noon is when things change. The natives all kind of stop what they're doing. The colored stalls start to close up and everyone looks tense. Those who visited last year might take this as their cue to get ready.

A long, rattling trumpet sound rings through the streets and that is when all hell breaks loose.

It's every person and pokemon for themselves. Have fun everyone.

[Ooc: Feel free to make your own top levels in addition to using the prompts below! Have fun guys!]
