[ The days prior to Kyurem's attack on the city left Sanae out of sorts. While she was no stranger to fending off gods by this point--a thought that was still strange and a bit chilling to her--this was different.

Heatran never made it to Citadel. These attacks never struck so close to home before, figuratively and literally.

There was so much that went wrong during that short amount of time. The theater was in shambles, and there were injured among the staff; innocent people who knew nothing about battle, caught up in the shuffle and hurt due to the Divine Defense Force's oversight. Takuto was hurt, badly, and while he seemed to be healing up just fine, the fact that he sustained his injuries defending her... stung, to say the least.

More than that, she had actions to answer to. Mercy killing was not something that was looked down upon in the Citadel, especially on the battlefield. It was seen as a sign of respect, an act of charity for one suffering to end their life. But Union was different, and yet...

And yet...

During her work restoring the theater, or helping those who were unfortunate enough to be caught in the crossfire, the young priestess seemed distracted at best. She didn't speak much, and many of her actions were executed purely from muscle memory. She made few mistakes, but even in her daze, she was likely to miss something.

Even around town, fetching supplies, shopping for food--even just getting away--she was almost like a ghost of her usual, chipper self. She paid her respects at the Hikawa shrine often, praying for those lost that day. It still stung. From time to time, she would seek out familiar faces, be they people from Citadel, or those familiar faces from the city that welcomed her and called her one of them. Could she still say she was?

She felt like she could do nothing; and what she did do cast her as an outsider, someone who was not welcome here. She wasn't sure what to do... ]

[DIVINE THEATER | ACTION]

[ At first it was just one letter. One simple letter from a fan, professing their adoration for Sanae's particularly unorthodox curtain call. Then one became two. Became six. Became countless others.

After a few days, her desk was covered. And they kept coming. Some of them even sent gifts. Flowers. Sweets. Any number of fine items suddenly found their way into her room, and eventually there was little room left for her to actually move around comfortably.

So there was Sanae, dozing on one of the couches in the common room. Or maybe going about her chores, fretting about something to herself, mumbling incoherently. She wasn't expecting this! No one was really supposed to see that sort of thing, and yet for some odd reason they loved it. She should be honored, but really she felt awkward more than anything. What should she do? ]

Um, h-hello!

[ She clears her throat, sounding surprisingly high strung. ]

I have a question. Um, you see I uh, I have a lot of, hmm... A lot of things that um, that I kind of need to get rid of. They're kind of like leftovers from soulfasting? And they're kind of taking over my room...

[ Sanae gives the camera a very uncomfortable, bashful, forced smile. ]

If anybody is interested in chocolates or candies or anything like that, I have a bunch! P-please take them off my hands!

[ She bows to the camera. ]

[LOCKED TO TAKUTO]

[ Why was this so difficult? Talking to Takuto was never hard for her--quite the opposite in fact, but for the last week, Sanae was very obviously avoiding him. Since the soulfasting performance, in fact. Was it the sudden influx of fan letters? Or the fact that the Matriarch was there to see them, to see... well, that. She received a very harshly worded letter from one of the priests after that, requesting she return to the convent for "unrelated reasons."

She knew that Takuto wanted to see her home, wanted to know more about it. This might have been the perfect time for her to allow him to see a bit of her world, but did she want to?

Hovering outside his door, she stood there, trying to encourage herself to knock. She would be leaving that evening, hadn't said a word to the others about it. She would be back before the next performance, so it would be all right. But she hesitated.

Just ask him to come along with you. It wasn't that hard. He had a right to know the sort of life she led. But she just couldn't knock. ]

[Wearing his normal Commander robes, Swain is wandering Union admiring the decorations and festivities. But lo! Something is different. It's hard to put your finger on it, exactly, but if one had to guess it's probably the extremely elaborate Murkrow mask he's wearing. Ever-faithful Beatrice is perched upon his shoulders as usual, but she's making quite the ruckus. As such, little children can be seen fleeing whilst sobbing. Noticing this, he removes his mask with a bit of a perplexed expression]

World Fair

In the week of lead-up to the fair, the whole of Union had been ablaze with excited chatter, industrious preparations, and quite a fair number of new faces. People from all over the known world had begun to trickle in with the announcement, some representatives and workers from each invited civilization, some excited young trainers and travelers, hopeful prizewinners and showboaters, cooks, warriors, clothing designers, and of course a wide variety of Pokemon. You couldn’t look anywhere (even a trash can) without finding somebody new, and every single person was absolutely thrilled to be there.

The World’s Fair, hopefully the first of many, sprawled out across the Entertainment District. Large swathes of the area had been cordoned off for the event, stalls and tables, booths and small shelters set out and erected over the course of the week. Local workers and travelers dug in, working in shifts to get everything together on time. Voices sang out around the grounds, work chants accompanied by the beat of hammers and nails, with every soul pouring their hearts into their tasks. A busy time, certainly, and one fueled by a desire for harmony, profit, and to start off the idea with a bang.

There were, of course, a few noticeable exceptions. The open invitation to Gigas that the Council had so warmly extended had been accepted in due time. Those who numbered themselves amongst that great city were distinguishable by their less than friendly countenances and penchant for taking notes, no doubt analyzing the city of their enemies. One likely familiar face made her appearance partway through the week, disappearing quickly into a tent and remaining indoors for the rest of the preparations.

Come opening day, people had already begun lining up at the entrance, awaiting admission. The queue stretched for blocks and blocks, a serpentine loop of people and Pokemon all eager for a chance to see what this fair was all about. Like everything else surrounding the event, there was a certain buzz to it. Chatter filled the line, questions and queries hanging on everyone’s lips. Did you see that robot? What’s that smell? Did you see that Maxime de la Puffette was planning on unveiling her fall lineup here? Oh! Oh! And there are three idol groups! Risette may even make a performance! and there was another rumor that buzzed through the line as well. Gigas accepted the invitation. And so did some of those people from the Archipelago…

Once inside the grounds proper, a dizzying array of sights, sounds and smells assailed every visitor’s senses. Music blared, machines clinked and clanked, food sizzled on grills, exotic spices wafted down the paths, unusual Pokemon let out cries of surprise and delight, and people ooh and ahhhed. Technological wonders stood out on stages, concerts presented a variety of music in every style imaginable, there were whole areas set aside for nothing but eating and fashion, while martial artists, Pokemon and brawlers duked it out in the various arenas. And above it all, airborne Pokemon soared and wheeled, banking and turning as their riders and egos clashed in a competition of acrobatics and skill. All of this could really only mean one thing, and even if by chance you were a Crustle living under a literal rock, you couldn’t miss it.

An event like nothing held since the Cataclysm, and something wholly unique had begun today, and for one week only. The First World’s Fair!

[OOC: This post is open to all players throughout the next week. Feel free to tag around, start your own top levels, and generally have fun during the fair. Some new and familiar faces will be tagging around as well, and may tag into your threads!]

I meant to ask this a while ago, but we've been busy between theater productions and Diancie's trial. Everybody came out okay, right? I figure that we would have heard something if things went badly.

Does anyone know how to play Go? It's an old strategy game that is played around Union. You put down colored pieces and try to trap someone else's pieces around yours. I have a new friend who loves to play, and I want to get better at the game for the next time I see him. Plus it's really fun! I think I know enough about it that I can teach people too, if anyone is interested.

I heard that there were other games similar to it too, and I want to learn those as well. If you know a game that sounds like Go and can teach me, I promise I'll pay you back!

[While he had been training more extensively with Martin and expanding his own horizons outside of Union, Matthias was still undoubtedly a member of the Swords, and that meant that while he had time away from other things, he had those responsibilities to tend to. To that end, he found himself out this early evening on a patrol with Basil, walking through the winding city to make sure that things stayed as calm as they felt at the moment. The sun hadn't quite come down from the sky yet and bathed the streets in a gentle orange light, but the chill of night had started to set in; thankfully the heat of the day made any breeze that happened to pass by pleasantly warm.

An hour into his patrol left Matthias with not much in the way to do however; nothing broke the calm, everyone seemed perfectly content to move about their day without incident, and everything seemed rather quiet, quiet enough to let the young man slip into thought about things. His time with Martin had been more productive than he could have ever imagined, first off; every lesson he stepped out of was one with less bruises, more confidence, and a better grasp of his skills, it was more than enough to make him feel better about himself than he had in a long time. He also thought of Yuuna, and her offers to train him in hand to hand combat...it was an exciting prospect to say the least, but one he would have to work up towards. Swords and staffs he was used to...his own hands however had only ever been used for cooking and tending to gardens and Pokemon.

Speaking of cooking, he'd recently taken up the task of learning how to bake. He'd wanted to learn ever since he'd gotten the idea to make small cakes for the people he'd worked with during their raid on Sanctuary; he'd never had a thought to learn until then, but now was the perfect excuse to try. His first few attempts...had been less than stellar, and he'd had Martin come over a few times to make sure he wasn't burning the spare house down. He'd wised up after the third failed attempt and sought out help from a local baker nearby Martin's house, a kindly older woman who'd been delighted to teach Matthias the ins and outs of the noble art! As he pulled a few snack cakes from his pouch and handed one off to Basil, he mused that he'd been making good strides.
]

What do you say, Basil? A short break before we get back to things?

[Basil nodded and hopped over to a nearby bench so he could begin eating his cake with gusto with Matthias arriving shortly after. He might as well take advantage of his lull, things usually livened up around the time the Taverns started opening their doors anyways. And for once? He was actually hoping he might fall in to a conversation or two; he'd been so busy with things lately that he'd enjoy some extra company]

Hey, city. Everyone still winding down after that battle? I'm still not quite sure what to make of it, but I guess we'll see what happens.

[That sounded more like a shitty attempt as small talk more than anything.]

So! Day of Fire is coming up! I don't know if you Unionites have ever heard of it, but that's what we call the summer solstice in Caldera. It's a lot of fun. It's basically just one huge party all throughout the night with dancing and singing and the Throwing of the Colors. You guys should go check it out, you won't regret it.

[His smile is much more genuine this time, at least. It honestly looks like he's got a secret he won't tell. Mostly its that he hopes Union comes and they are delighted and aghast at literally everything that transpires for this holiday. But also he feels like you guys need to lighten up and have fun. It's with that he ends the feed.]

[Action, near Downtown. OPEN]

[Hayato was never a guy who stayed at home. He could always be found out doing something.]

[This time it looks like he's trying to train one of his pokemon. He's crouched down with an Aron in front of him. In front of the Aron is two things- a small pile of scrap metal and a nice looking dagger of some kind.]

Okay. So, let's go over this again. This [He gestures to the scrap] is NikonFood. This? [He points to the weapon.] Is not food. It is Thorin's livelihood. We do not eat Thorin's livelihood okay?

[Nikon the Aron nods.]

Now, what do you eat?

[Nikon goes for the scraps! Hayato sighs in relief and just as he's about to congratulate him on being good he looks down to see the Aron has also started munching on the dagger. He sputters.]

Nikon!

The time has come.

At General Ironborn’s direction, the assorted troops of Caldera, Citadel, Refuge, and Union begin to roll out of the gates of the city. It would be a long trip – Sanctuary lay far to the west of Caldera, beyond any of the territory currently known to Union. Crossing the perhaps now-familiar desert would be merely the first leg of this journey. The atmosphere, as they depart from the gates, seems chipper. There are high hopes for the reclamation of territory from Gigas, and the people of the Sanctuary Resistance, especially, begin to entertain the appealing notion that their city might be free once more for the first time in decades, exchanging wide smiles and congenial laughter.

They do not travel light, of course. Caravans pulled by Ponyta and Tauros accompany them, stocked to the brim with food and supplies to last their small army for weeks. Their efforts hopefully wouldn’t last much longer than that, but they are assured by the Sanctuary natives that so long as they were able to reclaim a portion of the city, the people would happily provide them with what they needed. Other wagons are stocked with odd-looking machinery and gadgets – those sitting inside will spend the majority of the journey fiddling with equipment. Anyone who inquires will be informed that the technicians are making preparations to highjack Sanctuary’s communications network for their missions – perhaps they would care to assist? Still others are filled with armor and weaponry, useful Enhanced Items hurriedly crafted by the artisans of Union, and a few even tote heavier Pokémon who wouldn’t be up to the task of traveling the distance alone.

As it turns out, war is very troublesome to wage.

Over the course of the journey, there is plenty of time for idle conversation and brief side excursions or rest stops. The caravan eventually elongates and stretches out such that the furthest travelers are several miles in front of the rear – still, it is simple enough to go between wagons. In a pinch, the Valkyries swooping in the sky are always happy to take on a passenger for a short ride.

Eventually, word would spread that they were only a day’s travel from Sanctuary, and the mood will become somber, serious. But in the meantime, why not chat up your fellow travelers?

Yo, I'm Yosuke, Yosuke Hanamura. I just got here a few days ago from Citadel, with my dad. I don't know my way around Union very well yet, and I was looking for a place where I could pick up a pair of kunai or something. I lost mine on the trip here, and I need them for helping Sanctuary get rid of those Gigas creeps.

[Which, sadly, he's really not all that great with. But going in with just his fists doesn't sound like a good idea either. As does him going at all.]

I totally owe you guys one if you can help me out. Peace!

[ACTION -- AROUND TOWN + DIVINE THEATER]

[ Ever since their adventure in the past(?), Sanae has been a bit off, for lack of a better word. While she keeps to her chores around the theater, she doesn't seem to have the same vigor for cooking or skip in her step while cleaning that she usually does. She does her best to engage people in conversation, but only when they have spoken to her first--otherwise, she seems to be in a bit of a fog.

Her training schedule seems out of whack as well, and the archery target she has set up in the courtyard has been gathering dust.

Even walking around town, the green-haired shrine maiden has a definite cloud about her, and hardly notices as people (even people she knows) pass by. She seems to be avoiding her usual hangouts as well, although she may not be immediately aware that she is. ]

[ The scorched forest, a surprisingly peaceful area despite being charred and desolate. There are very few places for a person to hide, especially if said person has very bright green hair. Regardless, upon not so close inspection, a young Enlightened can be found, huddling behind some burned remains of what likely was, at one time, a bush. Her expression was intense, determined, albeit more than a bit fearful. Her fists were balled up at her sides, shoulders stiff. She looks ready to strike.

Something stirred in front of her, another burned bush rustling and moving, a young Darumaka hopping out.

The young girl took a deep breath, shoulders shaking. Come on, Sanae, you're brave, you can do this! Fire types weren't scary. You could take a fire type, easy! You could even bond with it! This was your chance! Time to be awesome, Sanae! You're so awesome, Sanae! ]

[Rei's Warp Band pops on today to show an exasperated looking priestess stalking away from the living quarters of Hikawa Shrine. It's a positively lethal look she's got going on, as if anything trying to stop her would probably wind up spontaneously combusting. And the reason for it becomes quite clear a moment later as a small green hand shifts the camera back to the house.

A Kanghaskhan stalks out, both her arms and her baby's laden with packs. Big, bulging backpacks and small shoulder ones stuffed to the gills. The big Pokemon lumbers after Rei, bellowing out irritable sounds that to Poke-Speakers will sound oddly like 'You can't just go off without your extra blankets! And don't you forget your hair-care stuff! And make sure to remember to bring enough clean clothes for a whole week, since you're not taking me so I can wash it for you!'

The camera pans back to Rei as she reaches the stairs to the shrine, where she's stopped to glare at the overly mothering Pokemon.]

Juno! I don't need all that! I can't carry half of it, and I've been traveling a lot longer than I've known you!

[More bellowing, this time indignant. Of course you do! And she knows that, but now that you've got her, she'll definitely have to mother you because Grandpapa Hino sure can't! Just...

And that? Sparks something in Rei. She stamps her foot and practically snarls, snatching one of the backpacks in exasperation.]

Fine! But you're not my moth- [The words die in her throat as she catches sight of the flashing Warp Band.] CERES!

[The Warp Band drops to the ground...]

Treecko! Tree!

[And scampering off across the courtyard goes the offending Pokemon, cackling to herself as Rei goes to grab the band.]

Sorry about that. Someone is going to get a lesson on Warp Band etiquette when I get back. [She glares back behind her at the retreating lizard.] If anyone needs me, I'll be on the southern island for the rest of the week. There won't be any fortune telling at Hikawa Shrine this week, unless my grandfather is feeling up to it.

[ACTION; AROUND THE THEATER]

[ Ever since her confrontation with Kuon, and seeing the woman's total command over the rain, Sanae knew that she had a long way to go. That was the reason that she came to Union, after all, was to become a stronger and more worthy priestess of the Great Tree. Her power was awesome and terrifying--she never thought that one person could have such an overwhelming command over the weather.

So, taking time away from cleaning, cooking, learning how to sew and generally being a stage hand super woman, Sanae could be found in the courtyard, meditating. A gentle wind blew through the area, becoming stronger over time. Sitting in the snow, a few bits of grass poking through around her. It seemed that she was about to reach a breakthrough, but it was a slow process.

That is, until Kodama, who had been sleeping in the tree she was sitting under, suddenly fell to the ground. Startled, Sanae screamed.

Then everything went to Hell.

The wind picked up, whipping around the grounds and immediate area, a sudden hailstorm settling in. Sobbing a bit, the girl grabbed her Skiploom in one arm, shielded her head in the other, and ran for cover inside.

The storm will eventually pass after a day or so. The clouds break and the sun shines brightly, and the snow in the courtyard is gone. A few of the trees have begun to bud, and the beginnings of new growth can be seen, appearing practically overnight. ]
