[Jason sits with his back to a low wall in the Habitat. His eyes are closed and he appears to be relaxing. He rests, however, with a large egg in his lap. He can feel something in it stirring and he's pretty sure it's going to hatch at any moment. It's kind of exciting to say the least and he wished for the 100th time that his mom hadn't been off on a delving exploration now.

A Fletchinder, Piper, is perched on the wall on one side of Jason and a Castform, Storm, hovers in the distance. Storm twirls in the breeze occasionally but is mostly in her own little world. Piper, meanwhile, is staring intently at the egg as if she's willing it to hatch with her mind.

As if on cue there's a loud CRACK and Jason's eyes jerk open. He looks down.]

It's hatching! I...what do I do?

[He looks up at Piper questioningly and suddenly a little panicked. Piper huffs and flutters down to Jason's shoulder. She nips his ear affectionately and it's clear she wants him to pay attention. You don't do anything idiot, just watch it hatch.

Is anyone else interested in the show?]

[Jason doesn't make posts often, but apparently he's bored enough now that he's going to. As usual, there is Piper on his shoulder (now evolved into a Fletchinder) and looking smug as a bug...er...bird can look. Jason rubs under her beak before addressing the warp band.]

I stopped by the breeding center and Habitats today and I have some exciting news. For starters, I picked up my first egg today with Piper. I'm not sure what it is yet, but it'll be fun to keep it warm and watch what happens. Anyone have tips for caring for the eggs anyway? Like I sad, first time here.

Second...well...maybe I should just show you.

[Jason shifts the Warp Band and suddenly a GIANT SPIDER drops into view. It's pincers click and it's...smiling? It's difficult to tell since it keeps getting closer to the Warp Band.]

Peter! It's hard to show off your evolution if your getting that close, come on!

Riiiiii!

[The screeching/creening sound is almost like a laugh and Peter hops back.]

He seems to be enjoying himself to say the least. Anyone else have eggs or evolved pokemon they want to share? I'll actually be at the habitat for awhile if you want to stop by.

For those who fear the encroaching flowers herald events of a slightly more urgent nature, perhaps it isn't really paranoia so much as sensibility.

Two days after they first appear, every single flower in Union blooms overnight. The sight is incredible - the entire city is blanketed in rainbow waves of color, and the scent of the flowers themselves is quite fragrant. The strange pink blossoms are particularly attractive.

For many of the residents of Union, however, the flowers may not be the first thing on their minds as things go a bit chaotic.

1. Enlightened with a Bug, Fairy, or Grass typing will become subject to extreme emotion swings. Primarily, the emotions will be positive, like overwhelming ecstasy, a sensation of giddiness, and a desire to spread cheer amongst their friends. These Enlightened may also suffer from confusion, an excessive amount of energy, and general loopiness. When not in sunlight, they'll swing towards the negative end of the emotional spectrum.

2. Bug, Grass, and Fairy type Pokémon have taken it upon themselves to settle into this new paradise, with the Bug types descending in swarms from above, and the Grass and Fairy types wandering in through the gates whenever the guards aren't looking. Though not violent, they'll be generally insensitive to the trouble they cause for the humans and will react negatively to anyone or anything harming the flowers.

3. Other strange Pokémon have also wandered into Union and while most appreciate the gentle sunlight, a few of the more mischievous have decided that the city could use some more variety. Each individual Castform may alter the weather between sun, rain, and hail within a certain area of the city ranging about two blocks. If Castform is creating Rain or Hail, Fairy, Bug, and Grass Enlightened will respond in a negative manner.

4. Allergies will be more fun to deal with than ever.

5. Finally, the following event Pokémon will be temporarily available to be bonded with as an extra bonus for this week. Please respond in the Map and Wild Pokemon post as per the usual to claim these. The level range is 5-8.

[ Here's somebody the network doesn't see often - but whose ridiculously attractive, androgynous face ends up on the occasional poster around town anyway. It's Haruka Tenoh, headlining actress for the Union Divine Theater and the general go-to girl when your show needs, well, a guy. And apparently she has a special message for everyone. ]

Yo, Union citizens! Things have been a little hectic lately, huh? Unusual people are visiting our town, and lots of new Trainers are getting their start. [ An extra-special smile for said new Trainers. It sure is nice to be sweet, and optimistic, and young. ] Best of luck to you all.

During the bustle, why not relax with us for a while? The Union Divine Theater'll be putting on a performance soon. I'm thrilled to be playing opposite a brand new leading lady, so come give her a hand. We'll let nothing stand in the way of your entertainment.

[ Haruka offers one more smile before she ends the feed, having neglected to give any pertinent information like the name of the play, or the dates, or the times. But more importantly - did the air around her just sparkle? ]

[ Rather than, y'know, rehearsing for said performance, Haruka is spending her afternoon in the Flying-type level of the Pokémon Habitat. She's brought a fencing foil with her and is currently thrusting it into the air repeatedly, attempting to score a touch on a Pidgey and a Murkrow who insist on hovering just out of her reach. The brash energy of her attitude is a direct contrast to her easy-going broadcast. ]

Faster! I nearly clipped you that time! Rushing Wind, eyes on the target!

[ Chastised, the Pidgey flaps harder, trying to get into a good position to strike. The Murkrow takes this moment to laugh at his companion, and earns a foil to the beak for his trouble. Training this pair could take a while. ]

[Banzu comes on, having made an effort to look semi-presentable, which in this case means running a hand through his hair and putting on a clean shirt (in dark gray) and jacket (in black). No hat, tie, or waistcoat as usual, so he's kind of under-dressed for this, but it's better than nothing. The Warp Band seems to have been placed on something, since it's filming from about head height as he sits in a chair.]

Morning, everyone. I'm Banzu.

["Morning" being around 11:30, but it technically counts.]

By now I'm sure you've all heard about the island that was discovered recently, and you've prolly heard from the people who've been that it's a really nice place. Trouble is, if you ain't bonded with a Pokémon that can carry you there or know someone who has, you can't get there. I've got a solution to that.

[He reaches for the Warp Band and turns it to show a miniature steamboat floating in a large glass punchbowl of water sitting on his cleared-off workbench. It may surprise some viewers when they notice that the boat is made of metal. Science!]

This is a model of a boat that can safely carry people to and from the island. Not just the island either; when it's done I'll make it available to groups that wanna search for other islands or go farther along the coast. [For a reasonable fee, of course.] Since the water near the shore won't be deep enough for it, I'm going to have to build a small facility on the coast to be able to build and use it, otherwise people will have to swim out to it just to get on. If you're thinking this sounds like a big job, you're right. That's why I'm looking to hire help gathering materials and for construction. If you or anyone you know'd be interested, get in touch with me.

[He pauses to give everyone time to digest that before continuing.]

But since I'm building this place anyway, I wanted to make a suggestion to everyone:

What if we set up a permanent settlement on the shore?

This is more than just making it easier to get to the island, this could open up a lot of possibilities: a safe place to fish would bring Union more food, a permanent research facility would let researchers find out more about Pokémon that live in the sea, extra protected space would let Union grow its population, and a settlement this close to Union would make good practice for building settlements that're a lot farther away. I bet a lot of you could come up with other things to do with a settlement like this. Building this facility is one thing though. Building an entire settlement is beyond what I can do. There's a ton of details and questions I don't know to ask, and questions I know to ask but not the answers. For example, would a settlement need walls? The guys from Team Evolution say they don't have any; can we do the same without using their methods? Can we clear and secure a route between Union and the settlement so that people who aren't trainers could get there safely? That's something for the Rangers to answer. I'm gonna build this boat no matter what, but it'd be easier to build and use with a permanent settlement on the shore and it could be good for everyone to have it. This could be the first step into expanding beyond the walls. Start thinking about it.

For now though I'm looking to hire people to help me get iron from the mines, that stronger wood from the island, and some regular wood from the forest. I'll be looking to hire people to help me build stuff once I've got materials too. Anyone who's interested lemme know.

[He reaches for the camera.]

[So it really has been a couple of days since Riku's obtained his warpband and become an official trainer. Since then he's checked out a few posts, seen a couple of newbies along with him asking for advice. It all helps, though, and Riku's pretty amused by everyone's willingness to showcase their Pokémon.

Which is why he's doing this. Riku's own brand of info gathering. He does want a good team of these critters.]

What's the most unique Pokémon you've met or seen? And how far have you been from Union?

[ And here in video land we have displayed... Melaka! And also here whole collection . So we have Tiny the Aron, Sneak the Phantump, Slugger the Donphan, Lurks the Croagunk, Brownie the Mankey, Shiram the Charmander, Queenie the Machop, Trooper the Silcoon (who looks mildly annoyed to have been moved), and Shimmer the Finneon, who is in a movable water tank, given they are in what appears to be the Pokemon Habitat designed for ground types. The two babies (Shiram and Queenie) are being watched over by Lurks. Trooper is sitting next to Shimmer's tank, who is just watching the proceedings. Brownie appears to be trying to pick a fight with Tiny, but it's not working. And Sneak and Slugger are both flanking Melaka on both sides. The video pans around to show all of them, but finally settles on Slugger. Who trumpets a triumphant elephant trumpet!! ]

Who'd have thought I'd have nine of 'em?

[ Seriously, ten weeks ago she didn't even have one partner... But she exhales at that, before patting Slugger on the head as a little thanks. Carefully using the hand not with the Warp Band on its wrist so the video shows that. She's getting better about it! ]

Slugger here was the first to evolve. Just did it yesterday, so it was a big shock. [ And the video now shifts to focus on Sneak, who is frowning a little ] ... Don't worry, Sneak, I'm sure you'll be second. [ The Phantump sighs at that, but nods all the same. Neither of them are aware how or even if Phantump evolve.

Either way, Melaka settles into a sitting position now, and shifts the video to her face. She grins at the feed, and- ]

So I've got one of two long treks I was going to go on, and I'm looking for a group willing to go with me. One of 'em's to go down deeper into those Iron Mines we found a while back to find a bigger snacks for the chubby one [ she means her Aron, and jerks her thumb off-camera in its direction] and the others to look more into why the Scorched Forest never seems to stop being hot. Apparently, the council wants to find "conductive" elements [ or something like that. Some technical crap ] at both of those sites, so win-win. Thing is, 'cus I'm going deeper there, I'd like some backup and maybe some experts to help with the Council's call. Anyone up for it?

[ And if anyone wants to ignore that to comment on the pokemon, they can. Or if anyone wants to run into them in an action bit, they can too ]

[Action - Pokemon Habitat]

[A little while later after that's over with, Sora can be found near a pond in the Pokemon Habitat. The man-made pond itself is devoid of Pokemon except for one large Gyarados sitting in it. Like all Gyarados, she's huge and pretty scary looking. However, Sora is too busy trying to give her directions regarding a large rock next to him. And for some reason, his clothes and hair seem to be pretty damp.]

Okay, Dory- let's try this again! Just break the rock! I know you can do it!

[The Gyarados gives out a terrifying roar that sounds fitting for a Godzilla movie to get pumped. She raises herself up, opens up her wide jaws and-]

[Slaps the water with her tail as Dory uses Splash. The slap is powerful enough to make a big enough wave to get the first few rows of Seaworld (or rather- Sora and the rock) wet, but besides that it's not very effective.]

[Sora groans as he wipes water off his face. Maybe she really did forget that she evolved.]

Uh...good try, Dory!

Hey everybody! It's time for the Weekly Update With Yang Xiao Long, the best hostess EVER!

[Yes, it's that time again. Yang appears on the screen, jumping into the video feed and throwing her arms out wide. Her Misdreavus and Eevee are snooping behind her, curiously, but staying out of the production otherwise. Yang grins, then raises one finger, leaning towards the broadcast.]

I promised last time to give you a life saving tip about not slipping and falling to your death on icy walking bridges! So, get ready...

[Yang grins.]

[She nods.]

A-a-a-a-anyways, so like, this week Union's had some honored guests named Team Evolution. We're gonna call them TeVo for short. TeVo's been really nice, except for the whole misunderstanding with machines that kind of made earthquakes that kiiiind of could kill us all. And there's a tournament going on, to show them what we can do and make amends!

While the Council talks about giving them earthquake-causing machines back. Yeah.

[She shrugs.]

The tournament's going! Yours truly was knocked out, but our show endorses Feliks SHUT UP MILLER, I KNOW HE HAS A LAST NAME! [the last is addressed at her Eevee, who sighs] because he beat me and I'm not gonna be shamed by losing to someone who doesn't win! So go get them, Feliks! Show these guys who's boss!

Next week we have a special guest star so special that I don't know who it is yet!

They were noticed a half hour before they arrived.

The Guardsmen atop the city walls, their keen senses trained to observe anything out of the ordinary, had not failed to observe the flight of birds disturbed from their nests and the distant shuddering of trees. The pace was steady. Not of wild Pokémon meandering about, but of something with fixed, determined purpose.

News spread quickly, as it ought. The Council was aware of the situation in five minutes flat, and the guard on the walls surreptitiously tripled in the same amount of time. It didn't take much longer for idle citizens to realize something was amiss, and as the rumors propagated -- There are people coming through the forest! -- so, too, did the number of people thronging at the gate craning their necks to get a look.

They emerge from the forest, their pace brisk and their numbers thirty strong. Many wear attire that is hardy, made for traveling - leather boots, thick wool pants, and long jackets in shades of deep crimson and black. Others, clearly of some higher rank, are clad in suits or other formal wear; a few wear pristine white coats that must have only just been changed. As they approach, most stare coolly upwards at the assembly gathered before them atop the walls of the city.

At their lead stands a man with a mild smile and shaggy red hair. Two others stand close beside him: a young woman in a crisp, fur-lined white coat, sleek black hair pristine and perfectly in place and a gentle smile on her face and an aloof woman with brown hair wearing a sharp suit who appears extremely disinterested in the proceedings.

The company pauses. And there is a long, awkward silence before the man with the red hair takes a step forward. He speaks, and his words, though understandable, have a strange, foreign inflection.

"My name is Rory Donnachaidh. We have come on behalf of our people to serve as a diplomatic presence to your city."

...Another awkward pause.

"...I believe it is appropriate to say - take us to your leader."

He smiles more broadly, as if he's made a joke.

We are Team Evolution.

We represent a group of people with a common purpose - to restore humanity to the peaks it once ascended and to raise up all Pokémon alongside us. We call ourselves Team Evolution for the only path forward for both human and Pokémon is to evolve. When we realized that our signals could be detected no longer, our scouts reported that the reason was human sabotage. Imagine our surprise to learn that a human civilization lay so close to those mountains... But what do I say? You, of course, must all have experienced surprise in equal measures, no?

We have come here for reasons twofold: to establish relations with this city and to retrieve the materials that you have been holding for us. It was a prototype, you see, and we would wish to have it returned.

Of course, we understand that you have little reason to trust us and great reason to drive us away. We will not attempt to enter your city if that is preferred - but we will camp outside, between the forest and the gates, for the space of 10 days, after which we will depart, with or without our materials. We hope you will be willing to speak with us during this time. We would also like to... hold a demonstration to explain our actions, if you and your Council are willing.

Please, come and speak with us if you have any questions. That is an offer extended to anyone in your fine city. I shall personally ensure that any visitors are treated with the greatest of courtesies...

[Is it any wonder that Commander ~~Handsome~~ is one of the first to perfect the use of the new video equipment? After all, dramatic speeches are so much more effective when he can showcase his cheekbones to their full potential.

It seems recent events have sparked an...admirable rush of civic pride. I encourage anyone who is interested to see about applying for the Scouting Corps. We can always use Rangers with your sort of passion and drive.

As for everyone else -- continue to serve Union and humanity whole-heartedly.

Jason had been waiting for this day for a long time. As such, he couldn't tell if the tingling he felt was from the electricity pulsing between his fingers or his actual nerves. Then again, it could just be left over nerves from the earthquakes that had been plaguing the city. It was certainly an interesting time that he was getting accepted into the Rangers, that was for sure. He just hoped his first day among the Rangers would go better than some of his first days of school.

Well, he wasn't going to get anywhere just hanging around his room. He pulled on his jacket and Piper stirred from her perch near his bed. She chirped loudly and flew over to his shoulder after his jacket was on. Of course he couldn't go without his Fletchling, though he hoped the Flying pokemon would stay out of his hair at least for today.

Jason feels as ready as he'll ever be and sets out of the Residential District and in the direction of the Outpost.
