The Situation in Glacier

The rescuers have been allowed a night's rest following their arrival on the outskirts of Glacier. Though there is ample evidence of their enemy's presence in the form of burning buildings and ruined settlements, the creature itself appears to have wandered off briefly to wreak havoc in a different corner of the frozen tundra. Or perhaps it was taking a brief siesta following so much exertion - murder and destruction was tiring work. Whatever the case, it seems to be an opportune time to descend into the city and assist those remaining there.

If they are brave, they might even try to take back the city itself. But the primary goal, of course, is to save as many people as possible before the great dragon returned.

The few people of Glacier who had guided them this far point out the less-traveled paths by which it may be possible to enter the city unnoticed. It is determined that they will fan out in groups, both in search of survivors and in search of the companions of the dragon who had so effectively laid waste to the city. Perhaps they might still gain the upper hand.

Wilbur, stay close.

[Maka says this in a quieter tone to the Tepig skirting around in front of her, sniffing at the ground as if looking for something. He's being quiet, too, thankfully, only soft oinking noises as he sniffs. He pauses for a second and looks back, making sure he hasn't actually gone too far ahead of the girl--no, Maka's still there with her group, so Wilbur skitters back to them. Unfortunately, he didn't smell anything of particular note, but that's only to be expected. Maka just adjusts the straps of her pack and scans the environment herself.

Maybe...if there's people nearby, she'd be able to sense it. Being a Psychic type has to have some use, doesn't it?]

Rei has Charizard, Xatu, Beheeyem, Gardevoir, and Gyarados

[Rei followed suit, her trio of Psychic Types following along warily. All four of them were stretching out their psychic senses, looking for signs of life or danger. Reaching, she tried following those threads, the strands she sometimes saw that bound life together, but they were scant even in this town. A ruin should have had more...]

This is really strange. There's almost no emotion here. It's...weird.

[Immediately upon entering Glacier, the group of six is directed towards the western half of the city and told to keep an eye out for some large buildings where some of the less affluent citizens were known to have gathered for shelter when the attackers had first come. It seemed unlikely that anyone would have remained there, but perhaps there were some stragglers left behind.

The area in question is easy to find - a set of large, metal storehouses in what must have once been the commercial district. It's possible to see why this might have been an attractive choice to hide. The storehouses are enormous, made of ostensibly non-flammable materials, with many exits in case of attack.

Unfortunately, it seems as if they hadn't accounted for the severity of the flames. Many of these warehouses have been reduced to smouldering mountains of twisted scrap metal...

Nobody is immediately visible - neither citizens nor assailants. They have time to examine each of the buildings if they wish or if they prefer, they can move on in search of something more likely.]

This is... terrible.

[Mami has her game face on. The Valkyrie sets down near the warehouses, looking over the flames and staring at them for a moment. She walks forward, eyes glancing across the fires and the warehouses, before she stops. She looks back over her shoulder, at the others.]

We should investigate the buildings, but--if they were in those, I feel it unlikely that they survived.

Haruka, Michiru, Lenna, Pamela, Rise, and Right

[ It's made itself scarce? All the better for infiltration - not so great for tracking down the source of the trouble. Still, Haruka will take anything that might lend her the element of surprise.

Senses (and intuition) on full alert, she steps over some charred rubble. The dragon had companions. Human companions. She, personally, would dearly like to meet one - but Sanctuary has taught her to take situations as they come. ] Keep quiet.

Right has his Lucario, Diggersby, Chansey, and Tepig out, with Bouffalant on Warp Band Standby

[Right nods in agreement, adjusting the strap to Rainbow Slasher. His faithful blade rests on his back this time, tilted so as to allow easy unsheathing. Near his feet, Momotaros the Tepig grumps a little as he follows along, shivering from the cold. Walking alongside Right are his Chansey and Diggersby, though the latter still looks rather wary and hesitant about the whole thing.

When Right does speak, he keeps his voice low.] Softy - any signs yet?

[Soft Steel shakes his head, not bothering to look behind at his Trainer. The Lucario stays near the front of the group, constantly scanning the area in front of them. His ears perks forward to catch any sounds beyond those made by the group, and his eyes keep looking for any stranger's auras. That half-mile radius of his aura-reading skills will come in handy today.]

Yuuna, Merrill, Isabela, Feliks, Fai, and Waver

[Feliks has spent far too much of this week with the most vulnerable parts of his heart on his sleeve. And that really isn't him, is it? He's not much of a liar, but a brave face, a smile in the face of whatever happens, those have always been his strengths.]

[So, in spite of the fresh memories of the haggard refugees going past them away from the city and the oppressive smell of the smoking ruins as they move in, he's making an effort to keep his demeanor light and cheerful.]

I wonder where the dragon even is. Like, maybe there's some kind of super cool secret lair around here somewhere!

Yuuna has Salamence, Dragonite, Hitmonchan, Politoed, and Sylveon

[Yuuna, in stark contrast to Feliks, is quite dour and moody. This is troubling, highly troubling, given the information available to them. That she's traveling with Fai, who'd only just returned from a year in the wilderness, doesn't really help but at least she can keep an eye on him (and Feliks) here.

As they walk forward, her hand rests heavily on the hilt of that old sword she always wore, and her armored jacket was heavy against her shoulders. Beside her, stoically silent as usual, was the Hitmonchan, ready to start punching at a moment's notice...

But Feliks? Well, his cheerful demeanor has drawn the attention of a certain bouncy Politoed. He hopped along beside the man, croaking his own thoughts (mostly about how yeah, he hoped there was a cool lair around) and generally being his upbeat self.]

I dunno. I hope it's not had time to roost. Really, I hope it's moved on.

Kyosuke, Excellen, Sanger, and Saber

[This group will find themselves trudging through a snowy boreal forest leading towards Glacier's west entrance, white powder falling all around them. It seems like a trail, at least, since there's definitely a well-worn path through it. Perhaps one used by refugees? Footprints large and small, human and Pokemon alike, are visible, flowing in both directions.

Perhaps the most troubling thing they'll find themselves facing is the absolute silence that reins throughout the woods. No Pokemon seem about, at all. Isn't that just spooky?

Of course, that stillness can't rein for too long. A shout goes up in the distance, an echoing, warbling cry of rage from a Pokemon. And a man comes charging into view, riding on the back of an Avalugg. The huge Ice type barrels down the path, and three men seem to be chasing after it. Garbed in black with flames on the hems of their robes, with swords raised they come, heedless of the strangers that the Avalugg is probably blocking sight of.]

Sanger only has his Beldum, so y'know

[ Sanger had been quiet most of the way here, but now that they have arrived, there's a definite tension about him, and the more nothingness they find, the higher that tension rises. ]

This much quiet is simply unnatural.

[ And as if on cue, the Avalugg shows up, pursuers closely behind him, and Sanger's sword is instantly drawn. It's a judgement that needs to be made instantly. He doesn't know who to strike down here, so really, there's only one option here: ]

[Sinbad rubs his thumb over the new amulet hanging around his neck, suppressing the shiver going through him from the chill. His growlithe made wet pawprints in the snow from his body heat as he sniffs around the area]

[Lucas himself is hugging a Castform to his chest, the small creature radiating warmth in its Sun Forme. It had been quite pleased to find several of its fellows nearby, enough that it used a Sunny Day to disperse some of the cold - there weren't many Castforms back in Union.]

I don't see anyone around... If the dragon is gone, we should go deeper into the city while we have the chance.

[Our intrepid heroes will find themselves stuck out doing the most noble of tasks. The favorite duty of soldiers everywhere. Reconnaissance.

After some time spent trudging through the snowy wasteland, the group will hear the sounds of a scuffle in the distance. Shouts of alarm and fear, the whine of energy being discharged, and the roar of flames. It sounds like it's coming from near one of the burned hamlets, judging by the smoke curling up into the sky. Could there be survivors in danger? Or could it be a trap by the enemy?]

[Through the snowy trek and all through their venture, the foxy lady was all awe and amazement, even in the midst of all the sour news and chaotic happenings of their mission. After all, this was someplace completely new to her and it was clear that she might have been enjoying that fact a bit too much!

That said, she didn't forget why they were here and at the sounds of trouble she laid low to avoid being spotted as they neared the place.]

Something's up...

[She voiced in a whisper to the group behind her as she had moved up to take point and check things out. While still on the ground, she peeked over and pointed in the direction of the burned hamlet and looked to the group to see what their next move would be.]

[Grim news as this group treks out into the cold. They are tasked with searching for the hospitals and medical centers of Glacier. More than the fact that there are patients who were too ill to leave the city, many of the doctors and nurses had refused to evacuate when the call had first resounded, choosing instead to stay by their patients.

It doesn't seem very likely that anybody would have survived, sitting ducks as they were. But perhaps the invaders retained some measure of mercy for the sick and the wounded...

In any event, the first hospital that they stumble across actually appears... largely untouched. The buildings around it are flattened or burning - but the hospital itself is still intact. Even as they watch, a few men exit the doors, slowly trudging out into the snow and cold. It's unclear if they're friend or foe.]

Lucca has Golett, Clawitzer, Magnezone, Rotom (Wash Core), and Muk

[Grim news indeed. But Lucca seems quite pleased with it though, walking along with a happy little grin. No point in being worried about what they'll overcome, or die failing to overcome. Sure, that was a rough thought but she had confidence.

In any event, she waves jauntily towards the strangers, but she's got one hand on her belt, ready to throw up a force field if they're not friendly.]
