The Situation in Glacier
The rescuers have been allowed a night's rest following their arrival on the outskirts of Glacier. Though there is ample evidence of their enemy's presence in the form of burning buildings and ruined settlements, the creature itself appears to have wandered off briefly to wreak havoc in a different corner of the frozen tundra. Or perhaps it was taking a brief siesta following so much exertion - murder and destruction was tiring work. Whatever the case, it seems to be an opportune time to descend into the city and assist those remaining there.
If they are brave, they might even try to take back the city itself. But the primary goal, of course, is to save as many people as possible before the great dragon returned.
The few people of Glacier who had guided them this far point out the less-traveled paths by which it may be possible to enter the city unnoticed. It is determined that they will fan out in groups, both in search of survivors and in search of the companions of the dragon who had so effectively laid waste to the city. Perhaps they might still gain the upper hand.
((You may respond to your threads now! Not all the groups will have immediate mod starters going up, so feel free to initiate threading; a mod will step in as soon as possible. As usual, we will be tagging on a 24-hour basis whether or not all group members have tagged in.
When responding, please list the Pokemon your character is bringing with them.
While the final portion of this event will go up on Sunday, October 4th, please also feel free to continue tagging this portion of the log as these threads will almost certainly not be finished yet.))

Hitmonchan, Rhyhorn, Stoutland, Skarmory, Swellow, Cubone, Breloom
I can send a flier to scout ahead, not that I'll understand the report.
[He glances between his companions.]
Though that doesn't seem like much of a problem for this group.
[He starts considering warp bands.]
Did anyone bring anything large enough to carry people out if we have to?
Growlithe, Rufflet
Don't worry, I'll be able to understand it, I can interpret for you - and sorry, Badr's dragon-type, I thought he best he stayed home, this climate wouldn't been good for him - but trust me, if we have to run, just follow me.
[he nudges the Rufflet perched on his shoulder]
Focalor, take a look around as well.
Sylveon, Staraptor, Persian, Herdier (and picked up a Piloswine en route)
Oscar's still an evolution behind Lucas, but Rico can carry two and Artemis can carry someone small.
[The Persian looked annoyed at the idea of carrying anyone at all, but the Staraptor didn't seem to mind taking a second passenger. He was used to carrying Minako now.]
no subject
[Lucas blinks for a moment or two, not entirely understanding.]
...Um. I think... We should get ready now, though, for whatever we're going to do.
[Wasn't anyone else hearing that? He glances around nervously - the howls seemed to be getting closer, but perhaps it was just his imagination.]
Hold on a moment, everyone. I think there's going to be trouble.
[A flash of light announces the appearance of a Shield around the group - Reflect in case of trouble.]
((As a note to everyone here, Kyouko and Saber will not be a part of this group after all, so it's just us 4!))
no subject
[They descend quickly and without warning, as the group divvies up duties. Focalor hardly gets a chance to stretch its wings before a Flamethrower attack launches at the bird. A fearsome roar cuts through the cold air, the sound echoing, piercing and strong.
Surrounding them at all sides are about a dozen dog-like pokemon, one type the group would recognize. The other two not as much. They did not seem to immediately aggress on the group but, rather, held back. A few looked mangy, their fur discolored and matted in some areas. The low growling continued tentatively.]
no subject
They're fire and normal type! We've got a job to do, just try and scare them off.
[He nods to Rex, and the Stoutland jumps between its human and the oncoming fire types, letting out a roar every bit as fierce as anything the fire types can manage.]
Of all the times to leave Mike at home.
(Quick reference: Rex is level 40.)
no subject
Go to the Glacier, you say, it'll be fun you say - but I'm getting blasted Sinbad!
[Sinbad winces at the echoing roar - fire-types, he wasn't expecting that, he raised his arm to let Focalor perch, as Furfur bounces in place like a superball, barking]
Hey! Hey! Hey you guys! What you doing to my friend?
Wait, Gordon. They might be able to help us... and they looked like they might need some help.
no subject
They don't seem like they're from Glacier.. But should we try to speak with them?
[As Gordon's roar echoes out, Lucas calls out - he doesn't need his Warp Band to attain some measure of communication, but he'll activate it regardless.]
Wait...! We don't want to fight if we can help it.
no subject
They continue to growl as Lucas communicates with them, although not without a bit of a pause. ]
"We have to fight!"
"Yeah!"
"Soft little humans don't understand!"
"Fight to kill!"
"Fight or be killed!"
no subject
'Fight to kill, fight or be killed'. I don't think you really want that, or you'd been on us in an instant.
[He glances around the snowy debris and then at the matted fur of the firetypes]
Did something happen that makes you think you had to defend yourselves by taking the first offense, or do you mean 'have to' fight because someone or something told you to?
no subject
no subject
He has a slightly different thought.]
...Is someone going to hurt you if you don't fight?
no subject
[Minako looked disheartened by that. She lowered her hands from her ears, wincing a bit, and decided to try something. It was a new typing to her, but why not? She switched on the Charm.]
Why do you feel like you have to fight? We'd rather avoid it if possible. We don't want to hurt anyone. We're sure you don't, either.
no subject
"Soft human thinks we don't want to fight?!"
"We fight because we want to!"
"We fight because we are strong!"
"Our masters tell us we will be strong!"
"We fight until we fall!"
no subject
No, no I'm not saying it because you are weak - the desire to fight is on will, not physical strength.
[Sinbad held his hand out]
Can you take us to your Masters?
no subject
"Ah..."
Gathering his thoughts again, he ventures --
"You can be strong in different ways, too. It's not always about fighting."
no subject
[She smiled a little.]
Maybe we can talk this out.
no subject
Sometimes not fighting takes the most strength. It takes confidence to be the bigger man.
[A lesson his partners seem to have learned well, sitting back, though the slight tenseness and the way they cluster around the old man show they might not be up for starting a fight, but they will do their best to end it.]
no subject
"No talking! Talking is worthless!"
[ One of the noticeably younger Pyroars snarled, getting a bit closer. Upon closer inspection, it looked wounded, its fur dull and matted with blood. It, along with its comrades, looked ready to strike at any moment. ]
"Enough."
[ A sharp bark tore through their growls and snarls, and the pack quickly backed down. A strange dog-like Pokemon stepped out from behind the brush, looking to be in only slightly better shape than its pack mates. Judging from its appearance and demeanor, this appeared to be their leader. ]
"Forgive them. They're young and afraid and looking for redemption. All they know is battle."
[ The pack, still on their guard, gathered around the Mega Houndoom, not once taking their gaze from the group. ]
"We will fight you until our dying breath if we must, but if you do not wish to fight then leave us here. We have no real purpose anymore."
no subject
[Lucas gazes around at the others.]
We came here to help. Not just the people, but... everyone here. If something has happened, then... we won't leave you in need.
[He gazes at the snarling Pyroar.]
I can soothe your wounds, if you'd like.
no subject
[It's the Cubone, speaking with a quiet intensity.]
Is that all you have? Fighting? You'd throw your own lives away just to keep fighting?! To die for nothing is to live for nothing, to stand for nothing. Is that what you want?!
[The small Pokemon becomes increasingly animated, angry at the suggestion of 'nothing to live for.' Jim, for his part, looks a bit surprised at the suddenly so vocal Cubone, placing a hand gently on top of the skull. The Hitmonchan steps forward.]
Coach says there's more than just fighting, than being the strongest. You've got to fight for something, stand for something. Nothing wrong with testing your limits, but... To fight, to fight for real, there needs to be more than that.
no subject
They're right - Please, let us help, we're not here to fight - life is too important, and let no one tell you have no purpose, there's always something to live for.
no subject
"You don't understand! Soft humans, soft pokemon, pampered and nice!"
"What do you know about the world?! We don't need your pity! Go run away with your tails between your legs like those ice people!"
"Yeah!"
"Enough!"
[ The Mega Houndoom barked loudly, quieting the rest of the pack. It appears calm, but there is a bit of obvious restraint there. This pokemon may be their leader, but it seems to have been at least somewhat offended by Bruce's words. ]
"We were separated. Our masters were ambushed by a small group of human villagers. Some of us fled, the others..."
[ Judging from the pokemon's tone, and its sudden lowered head, they could likely add two and two together. ]
"You don't smell like the human villagers, or like our masters. Were you separated from your pack as well?"
no subject
[He kneels]
That man is a peacekeeper - he spends many moments of his waking life to protect those under his charge along with his pokemon, the boy seen much pain and suffering as a healer, I myself was forced to flee my homeland. We are trying to emphasize with you, not to pity you. But...
[He shook his head]
No, we went off voluntarily, some to find Survivors, others to find the Dragon God and the human with him to make him stop hurting people.
no subject
[Minako stepped forward cautiously.]
We just want to help and prevent more injuries and battles. [And other things...] If you'll let us.
