The Situation in Glacier

The rescuers have been allowed a night's rest following their arrival on the outskirts of Glacier. Though there is ample evidence of their enemy's presence in the form of burning buildings and ruined settlements, the creature itself appears to have wandered off briefly to wreak havoc in a different corner of the frozen tundra. Or perhaps it was taking a brief siesta following so much exertion - murder and destruction was tiring work. Whatever the case, it seems to be an opportune time to descend into the city and assist those remaining there.

If they are brave, they might even try to take back the city itself. But the primary goal, of course, is to save as many people as possible before the great dragon returned.

The few people of Glacier who had guided them this far point out the less-traveled paths by which it may be possible to enter the city unnoticed. It is determined that they will fan out in groups, both in search of survivors and in search of the companions of the dragon who had so effectively laid waste to the city. Perhaps they might still gain the upper hand.

[The Avalugg does not stop. It doesn't really seem to notice these lesser beings at all. A half-ton of ice also just can't stop that easily, so unless Sanger intends to be stepped on? He's going to move.

Saber will have a bit more luck, landing on the Avalugg with the Magnet Rise and finding a terrified, scruffy looking man covered in burn marks. The back of the Avalugg seems to have pits and scores, burnmarks that didn't quite penetrate the back.

That position also puts the Shifter in direct line of fire to the pursuers. They hold up their swords and fiery beams fly from the tips, an Incinerate aimed at Saber, the Avalugg, and Kyosuke. Behind them, a trio of Pokemon appear, seemingly conjured out of thin air. A Charmeleon, Magmar, and Simisear all step up to the plate lobbing more fire after the injured Avalugg.

They are not friendly, it seems.]

Saber takes in the situation instantly. "The man on the Avalugg is under attack!" she clarifies for the rest of the team, then acts on the assumption they're going to defend the terrified man.

Realizing she's at a disadvantage against concentrated Fire-type attacks, Saber uses Autotomize and, now both floating and nearly weightless, leaps high into the air to avoid the attacks. In her place, she warps in her Gabite directly behind the Avalugg, who roars excitedly and proceeds to try and smother the Charmeleon's flames under a Sand Tomb.

As the Incinerate blasts at him, Kyosuke charges straight forward, flames bursting out of his back as he uses his flame power to speed him forward and directly at and through the flame. Trusting in his toughness, his own fire typing (mixed with Steel but details) and his inherent defensive Enlightened ability to absorb the brunt of the damage, he brings his Revolver Stake forward with his right hand, punching out with the giant spike at one of the attackers. Should he connect, he will then attempt to drive the stake directly through the man's heart with a well-timed explosive charge from the Stake's firing mechanism.

Make me a good opening, okay Saber?

[ Her voice crackled over the comm, surprisingly bubbly for someone ready to fill a bunch of fire-types full of bullets. Letting out a low whistle as Kyosuke got ready to stake an enemy, she grinned. ]

Wow, should I be worried, you're being pretty forward there, Kyosuke! I'm not gonna let myself be the other woman here~

[ Drawing back a lever on her rifle, the barrel glowed as she upped its attack. Taking aim through her scope, she took three quick shots at the enemy Kyosuke aimed to stab. ]

Pew pew pew!

[ Yes sound effects were necessary. Shut up. ]

[ Sanger was fairly sure he could break right through the Avalugg if he absolutely had to. It wasn't just the type advantage he had, though that was part of it - he would have thought so no matter who was in his way. Still, there is good reason to believe they should defend the running pair, so he probably shouldn't bust right through. ]

Excellen, keep the Avalugg in your sight. We may need them for information after this.

[ He leaps in a burst of snow, straight over the Iceberg Pokemon and high into the air. If these pursuers were going to swing a sword around in front of the Sword that Smites Evil, surely they were prepared for the circumstances. ]

Colossal Blade, Great Wheel!

[ The sword in his hand shifts into a wicked scimitar, several times larger than it had any right to be, and with a great two-handed swing, he lets it loose spinning straight at the humans, slicing through the air like a boomerang. A very sharp boomerang about the size of a small man. ]

[Well that's a shocking display of brutality. Good job, Heroes. The Sand Tomb sends the Charmeleon to the ground, rasping out a weak breath from the sudden shock of it's tail extinguishing. Cruel. Kyosuke's...rather explosive punch and Excellen's rounds drive a hole through the soldier, dropping him in a rather messy fashion. Quite brutal, that. And then? Sanger's sword definitely smites the evil cultist. The huge sword carves through the two remaining men, dropping one and sending the other to the ground with a gaping gash.

And that? Drives the other two Fire types into a furious rage!

The Magmar surges forward, it's entire body turning into a torrent of flame, hurling itself right at Kyosuke as he's recovering from his punch. A Flare Blitz, because you've just killed it's bondmate and it's past caring about it's own safety.

And the Simisear takes a breath of it's own, leaping high over the group and exploding outward with a Heat Wave retaliation for it's fallen friend. The blast detonates over a wide area, destroying nearby trees and sending the Avalugg down in a heap, pitching the rider into a snowbank.]

[Gotta get that Battle Mastery. Saber feels deeply uneasy about the dead humans, but for better or worse, battle is in her nature.]

[Saber is singed by the Heat Wave on her way down, but her temporary airborne status lets her avoid the brunt of it - the rush of hot air actually slows down her inevitable descent and she's able to wind up and hit the Simisear in the air. She hits it with a Night Slash from her sword half while it's distracted by its rage.]

[Gabite, meanwhile, isn't one for philosophy, but he is one to give a huge bodycheck to the distracted Magmar with a Takedown, hopefully before he can burn that flammable human.]

[ Sanger grabs his sword on its return trip as he lands, hardly surprised that it basically ripped through its targets. After all, there is nothing he cannot cut, a couple of what seems to be ordinary men relying on Enhanced weapons are hardly going to stop him.

The Pokemon are still a threat though. The Heat Wave strikes Sanger, who avoids the brunt of the damage by using his Colossal Blade as makeshift cover, but is still forced to quickly drop his overcoat into the snow lest it be set on fire.

It hurts, of course, and he wouldn't want to take another one, but it doesn't show on his face, instead he quickly matches Saber's Night Slash with his own, stepping in with a swing of his blade. ]

Flikrei Geist! Dragon Rush!

[Kyosuke's Garchomp materializes from the Warp Band and slams into the Simsear, looking to pin it down and avoid further damage.]

[Things are looking pretty grim for Team Fire Guys. The combination of attacks drop the poor Simisear, and it winds up pinned beneath the Garchomp. The big thing is easily half it's size, and when it goes unconscious, it spits out a curse.

The Takedown connects too, and the Gabite will end up with a burn for it's trouble thanks to it's incredibly hot bod.

And it retaliates in kind, bringing both it's hands down on Gabite's shoulders in a Dual Chop, because if it's going down it's going to make you pay for it.

And off to the side? The injured human cultist chuckles hoarsely to himself...]

[Gabite roars in pain and dumps another Sand Tomb on the Magmar, part out of revenge and part out of spite.]

[Saber makes one more leap to land next to the remaining human, putting her sword to his throat.]

Call off your attack and tell us what you're doing here. Now.

[ It seems as though this fight was essentially over. Sanger certainly thought so, the Colossal Blade returning to its sheath in its standby mode of an ordinary katana. ]

Let us see how the ice creature and its rider are doing.

[ And he does just that, turning about to seek the Avalugg. If they were going to help someone, they might as well go all the way instead of living him in the snow. ]

[There was nothing left to call off, really. Magmar is more or less finished as it suffers the brunt of the effective attack, and the man continues to wheeze as he smiles.]

We call off nothing. Not until this world is free!

[With that final word, the man instantly erupts into burning flames, an intense Fire Blast attack that consumes his body and leaps towards Saber. If he is to die, he will see that his enemies suffer a similar fate.]

[The suicide attack catches Saber completely unaware and it hits her full force, only her reflexes saving her from a serious burn and only her natural tenacity saving her from an instant knockout or worse. She doesn't even have time to shout before she's rolling around in the snow to alleviate the pain and put out the lingering flames.]

Fanatics. Wonderful.

[Kyosuke walks over to Saber]

Are you all right? Do you need any medical aid?

Wow, you're over-dramatic, aren't you?

[ This was her least favorite part of the job. She was fine shooting someone who wanted to fight, but this guy was a fanatic and a coward at that.

Excellen sighs over the communicator, suddenly becoming very serious. She lines up her sight, aims, and fires a psychic beam at the flaming man, aiming for what she assumed to be something vital. ]

Kyosuke, Saber, Boss, let's pack up. This isn't fun anymore.

To fight to the bitter end needs strength. To live in disgrace needs strength. I cannot see it in suicide.

[ Sanger shakes his head. He can certainly respect faith and zeal, even if it can be taken too far, but there are ways to make a glorious last stand that go straight out the window when you turn your blade on yourself. ]

Can you stand?

[ He's finally found the Avalugg's rider, and is going to try and get him out of the snow. ]

[The psychic attack, at least, puts the man out of his misery, though even as he falls, the expression on his face seems to be one of glory. ...What they're facing here is horrific in every respect.

The Avalugg and his rider are sprawled across the snow, and in true comedic fashion, only his legs protrude. In less comedic fashion, when he's pulled out, the flesh of his skin is raw and burnt in many places. He seems semi-conscious, the force of that final attack having finally sapped his strength.]

Ngh...

[His eyes flicker open.]

Titan...

[Presumably, he is referring to his partner. The Avalugg is doing a bit better than its rider, though it seems to have suffered a serious crack down its back.]

Worry not, your partner is stronger than you are.

[ Sanger puts the rider down next to his Pokemon, hoping that being close together would at least alleviate their worries. He has no healing powers or even any real first aid equipment, so he can only hope that the burns are not too bad. ]

What exactly has transpired? Who are these enemies?

[Though he is weak and injured, he reaches for the Avalugg. ...Probably not a good thing since the creature is made out of solid ice, but give the patient what he wants.

He shakes his head slowly and croaks.]

We don't know... They came from the east. Never saw 'em before... dunno what they want. They just came and... wiped everything out.

Some kinda... religious freaks.

Hey, don't push yourself too hard. We don't want you keeling over on us.

[ For everything that just happened, Excellen seems to be in relatively light spirits, strapping her rifle to her back again. ]

Don't worry, we're here to fix things up. I'm pretty sure Saber here's a knight or something, and Kyosuke, Boss and I are pretty strong too.

[ She gives both rider and "Titan" a wink. ]

So you can relax, okay? The ATX Team is on the case.

This man and the Avalugg are in more need than I am. I have no healing moves, but my newest partner could call down some hail for the Pokémon, if that would help.

[Saber stands up and brushes the snow off herself, pride wounded slightly less than her actual body.]

If the enemy are religious fanatics, does that mean this white dragon is a god?

A god, or something that could pass as one.

[ Sanger puts a hand on the hilt of his sheathed sword. ]

I have always wondered if I could cut through one.

[ Is he serious? He looks serious. He's serious. ]

[The man stares blankly for a moment or two before he laughs, a weak and mirthless sound.]

You'll need a bigger sword than that, my friend. The white dragon...

[His eyes seem to flicker briefly to somewhere far away as they take on a glazed expression.]

...

[With an exhalation of breath, he falls unconscious on his Avalugg.]
