Wild Pokémon Catch-All

The vast wilderness beckons! Beginning January 25th, 2014, all wild Pokémon threads that aren't incorporated as part of another post should go here. You are still welcome to include a section for bonding with wild Pokémon as a part of another entry or a log, but we encourage isolated wild Pokémon threads to go here to prevent flooding of the main comm with entries specifically geared to only cover wild Pokémon threads.

It's...

[He chuckles, adjusting his hat.]

Well I guess I should say that it's technically done, just not officially. I asked Judy if she'd battle with me again. [She wiggles gently in Blue's grip; excited anew by him saying it to someone else. That meant it has to be true!] ...Obviously she said yes.

[ That was some news Blue wasn't expecting! Her eyes widen at Red, and then she looks down to the small, ecstatic creature in her arms. ] Really?

[ But it's not something that needs confirmation - it's already been given. ] What made you change your mind? I mean- it's great news, really! You and Judy were always such a good team.

Did something happen?

[He looks down. Judy of course is snuggled close enough to Blue she hasn't noticed yet.]

I don't think I'm strong enough without her.

[She turns to look at him now, concerned. You aren't getting into trouble out there, are you Red?]

Hm? What do you mean?

[ That's... surprising to hear. ]

There was this guy...I dunno why, but he was so mad at me. He said some things though, that made sense; I've been overconfident, and without Judy I've had nothing but trouble. I had to have someone hold my hand to bond with Abby and Nike, they could have died at the Island, it took two Pokémon to force down Ribbons enough for him to bond with me, it's just been nothing but disasters.

[He's rambling, and frustrated obviously. Judy floats away from Blue to hug Red now, and he supports her carefully.]

I've been doing nothing but training but it doesn't feel like I'm getting anywhere.

Wait.

[ He's stopped rambling, but still Blue needs to process this. She goes through it again in her head, silent for a moment.

Okay. So. ]

Some person got mad at you... he said a bunch of crap to you, and now you think you're weak?

Am I getting this right?

I didn't say that.

[Technically speaking. Yet he did at the same time, but taking it back would be childish.

...Almost as childish as pretending he didn't say it like he is now. Judy puffs up a bit. Is this what's been worrying him? This is silly and ridiculous to her, everyone would be deeply impressed if they saw his other Pokémon(in her opinion) and to call himself weak is annoying.]

Who was this guy.

[ Red. Give her the details. ]

Green Oak

[And Red is annoyed all over again just saying his name, fidgeting with his hat in a particular way he does; thumbing the brim and working it gently from side-to-side, to the point that Judy finally hugs his arm to make it stop.]

[ She hears the name, and she's surprised when she actually knows it. Out of all the people she's familiar with, maybe it's the most likely or predictable. Green Oak isn't somebody who goes out to start something, but his mouth has no sensitivity. Still, did it make sense for him to apparently have a go for no reason?

Blue doesn't know the details, but maybe, right now, they don't matter. She sighs after her initial pause, shaking her head. ]

What about when you make mistakes with Judy? What about the next time things don't go as well as you want them to? Are you going to quit, Red? Because Judy might be a good pokémon with a lot of heart, but she's not going to make everything magically better for you.

I dunno, Judy is pretty magical.

[By this point, the Clefairy is pouting, but also too worried about Red to just hop out of his arms. Glancing down at her, Red then focuses on Blue again.]

But being serious, I need to do something different at least. Sure; accidents will happen still, but I don't want to intentionally toss people and Pokémon important to me into danger. I want to be strong enough to protect them.

[At some point though, Red will have to accept that he can't take as personal a role in that as he might like as he isn't Enlightened.]

[ She folds her arms at that poor joke, not the least bit amused by it. ]

You can be strong, but that won't make you invincible from mistakes.

[ But was saying that right now useful at all? ]

It's clear that Judy wants to come with you, and I'm not saying that it's wrong to take her with you... but she's not a solution, that's all. Getting into danger once doesn't make you any less of a trainer, and having help doesn't either. You know better now. Beating yourself up over past problems doesn't help at all.

[It wasn't useful for Red, at least.]

Yeah? Everything seems sunny-side up for everyone else, so I am feeling a little concerned. Have you seen Zarya? She evolved, and came in to greet me, I'd been asleep and almost wet the bed because I thought I was stranded on the Island somehow. Maybe I'm just out of the loop and not hearing about everyone's troubles but I'm feeling like the slow kid in class that everyone's silently pitying.

[ Blue's face turns sour at the end of those words, eyes narrowing and a frown set in her lips. ]

You think this is me pitying you? This is me trying to watch out for you Red, like a friend does. I'm sorry that happened with Zarya; really, I am. But you're not the only person who has a hard time, and if you think you are? Then the person throwing that pity party for you is yourself.

[It isn't that Red is unaware of other Trainer's perils, but rather like that person that's feeling alone, or a lover that is feeling left by the wayside; some reassurance is needed sometimes. That small affirmation that they are indeed not alone or forgotten about. Hearing Blue's reprimand seems like it might instead start an argument. Instead his expression softens, and he moves, shifting Judy to his shoulders, and perhaps because it's been a while; she forgets she's supposed to be miffed and throws her arms up in the air, giggling as Red closes the distance and gives Blue a hug.]

Well it was turning into a boring party I guess. [There is a lot of swagger in that statement, but he knows to be a little serious, so softly he speaks again.] Thanks for being a friend. I needed someone to listen and not indulge me.

[ It doesn't make her feel entirely better. There's a frustration still there for her, but knowing that she got through the red, hopefully, maybe - that's good. She puts her hands onto his sides, resting her head forehead on his shoulder. ]

Whatever you think a trainer needs to be... just. Don't think they're some kind of superhuman who never gets it wrong.

[ No, she doesn't want to be angry. She pats the side of his head. ]

And give it time with Zarya, okay? It'll get better. Just have more confidence in yourself.

[Nodding at her words, he takes them in, thinking about them quietly for a long moment.]

I'll do my best.

[Judy leans down to give Red a hug as well.] ...I guess it's hard not to be confident when you have such great friends backing you up. [He's mirthful again at last. While it may take a little more work, he is already hopeful he can shake off this funk that has been infecting every part of his life lately.]

Now then, we should celebrate, maybe.

[ It's not compliments Blue's looking for, and she's still not sure that this is the end of it. Why should it be, after a couple of words and a hug? They had been in a conversation similar to this before-

But Blue moves out of the hug, giving him a smile. ]

Of course. For you and Judy. And if Zarya evolved, you have a lot to catch me up on.

[She's very likely right in assuming this isn't the end. Red will obviously try, but shaking off a bout of depression usually isn't as simple as a hug and a smile.]

Actually, quite a few have evolved on me. So we do have a lot to catch up on. What should do for this tiny party? Maybe a shake.

Yes! [ Did someone say shake? Someone said shake. And that makes Blue's smile blossom further and her hands clap together. ] And fries for the both of you. [ Nod! ] On me.

[ Which always means she's going to nick some but isn't that the point of Red eating fries ever? ]

Oh. [His brows raise appreciably at this, and he nods in turn. Judy also claps her hands, tail ticking back and forth slightly.] I guess it's a date, then. Please treat me kindly.

[Which left him to muse how he always seemed to fall into this when they weren't fighting. He was glad it wasn't often as well. Pointing in the direction of their destined shake, he nods once more and heads off with her, wondering if she'll take about half of his fries this time.]

I'll think about it.

[ And she laughs, going with him and Judy to get their food and drink. Once they're there, she makes them both take a seat before moving to go and order their food.

It only takes a few minutes, and then she comes over with a tray. A small portion of fries for Judy and a drink, and then Red's fries and their shakes. She takes a seat in her chair. ]

So, tell me everything. Every little thing. And if you make a joke out of that, remember I know where your legs are under the table.

[From her seat, Judy can barely see over the edge of the table but it doesn't dampen her excitement as the corners of her smile can also be seen. When Blue returns she hops up to her feet, putting her hands together excitedly. Red laughs, helping her get her drink and every so often giving her a fry so she doesn't have to reach. Looking back at Blue, he tilts his head down a bit.]

Wellllllllll, I got out of bed... [He chuckles.] But, a lot of my Pokémon have evolved. It's a bit strange sometimes when I think about it. Oh, I also got an egg from the Breeding Center! It hatched into a Smeargle.

[ There was definitely a light tap against his foot for that! Anyway. ]

Wow, really? [ Oh, yes, just let Blue reach for a fry too. ] How long have you had them for? What's their name?

[Quickly, he reaches for a fry that just happens to be the same one she has reached for, resulting in a broken fry. A terrible shame.]

Around three weeks at this point, her name is Melpomene, and she's quite the artist!
