The vast wilderness beckons! Beginning January 25th, 2014, all wild Pokémon threads that aren't incorporated as part of another post should go here. You are still welcome to include a section for bonding with wild Pokémon as a part of another entry or a log, but we encourage isolated wild Pokémon threads to go here to prevent flooding of the main comm with entries specifically geared to only cover wild Pokémon threads.

"Muk!" Imogen being stuck facedown, in quicksand is bad. She'll feel sorry about using a perfectly gentle Pokemon species as a curse after she at least gets herself onto her back. "Brighteyes, off the rocks!"

Fortunately Imogen being distracted didn't mean Brighteyes was, the cute brown rodent hopped it's way around the sand. Growling to get the creature's attention. He'd taken a flank that was on some treebranches jutting from the side. Brighteyes was not amused by this little play.

"Hi, um, could you stop that with the sand? I'm not food and I'm not bad! I promise." Imogen will be keeping her distance at all possible on this one, right now the thing was not looking friendly. Her hand was also on her warp band in case she needed support. Fortunately if the sand was any sort of 'hint' her new friend from the caves would be good here. "I don't want to hurt you unless you force me."

Fortunately for Imogen, she can understand Trapinch's angry growlings perfectly! A misunderstanding might have occurred otherwise.

It expresses that the stupid colorful creature is a moron and should get away from the ledge because it crumbles off sometimes. It also expresses that Arena Trap can only stabilize the rock for so long so if she doesn't want to plummet to her death she'd better move her sorry butt when it lets her go.

What kind of thing just wanders to the edge of a giant cliff anyway geez.

"What- oh, thank you, but you know that's why I was being careful about how I approached the edge," Imogen, for all her... crazy, was aware of the gravity of what would happen if she fell here. Once the arena trap was off her Imogen pushed off the cliff edge with all four limbs and daintily landed closer to the wall.

Brighteyes, however, is still growling for his part. There are better ways to warn someone away from the edge than with sandtraps.

Trapinch huffs at Brighteyes and begins to dig back down into the sand. You make a nice little nest up away from the crazy Pokemon down further in the canyon and you think you're set for the rest of your short life but no everything and their mother needs to come down to the ledge to peek over the edge

And you can say that now but you wouldn't be saying it if you'd seen the Pineco rolling in from the forest. Stupid things could barely keep themselves pinned down in a strong wind. If you don't have a net, you use what you've got.

...Trapinch pauses when it's halfway buried again.

You two things could get back up yourselves, right?

"Well, I have these grabby things," Imogen flexes her fingers, "which Pineco doesn't, they're pretty useful at stuff." Imogen sits down cross legged as she motions Brighteyes off for the moment. No point starting a fight now that she's out of danger.

"Oh, yeah, that's no problem. But... you really okay up here all on your own? I mean, this ledge is pretty clearly going to be traffic for others? But other than annoying colorful things you have to save, don't you have anyone else up here?" Imogen glanced around as much of this wall she could see. She didn't find many other stop spots on her way down. And even if she were to harness climb her way to the bottom she'd stop here for a bit before she continued, "Why are you up here anyway?"

Trapinch squints suspiciously at her grabby things and decides that its larger grabby thing is superior. (Its mouth.) As for an answer to her question, Imogen gets a great big shrug.

It hatched down in the Canyon, it decided life was too short to deal with fighting Pokemon all day and it relocated up as high as it could manage. There were paths in the canyon walls accessible for things that could actually dig, you know. It only needed to eat and drink once in a long while, so it was good.

...Although actually it was kind of thirsty now maybe it will meander to its water source soon.

Always impressive to watch a Trapinch shrug. Imogen waited a moment and pulled a water container from her bag, "You were trying to save my life, least I can do is offer you some of my supplies."

Imogen considered the Trapinch and it's situation, "You know, there are other places beyond the canyon, beyond the fighting. And without Pinecos rolling through the area on a light breeze?" Imogen figured she'd make the offer, this was its home, but Trapinch didn't seem too happy here. Just... content to be out of the canyon's deeper areas.

Trapinch seems surprised for a moment at the offer before it trudges forward. No point in looking a gift canteen in the... part where your mouth went.

Yeah, there were other places, but the forest was right in the way and if she thought a foreign Ground-type could make it through a forest of Grass-types without getting in serious trouble, she needed to study her biology more. It wasn't like there was much choice involved.

Imogen sets out a small bowl and fills it. She shivers a little against the breeze, but she still smiles, "I suppose that is a problem... I could help get you past that if you wanted to try settling somewhere else. There is plenty of world outside of this spot and past the forest."

Imogen did think that this sort of life was... drab. And it was clear this one wanted more than this rock, but was kinda stuck between two less-than-friendly choices. "Being alone is never what anyone really wants, is it?"

Trapinch seems even more surprised. It will mask its emotions briefly by thrusting its large head down into the bowl and slurping it dry.

After a few moments, it gives another Trapinch-y shrug. Being alone was fine. It was better than being with things that kept trying to squish you.

But if she wants to take it somewhere else, it wouldn't protest.

"Well, yes, being squashed is always bad," Imogen added nonchalantly, fully aware that the options Trapinch had were not the best.

"But with me that's not a concern, and it'd help if I had another level head to keep me out of trouble," Imogen offered a hand, not really for a handshake but a simple show of friendship. "I see in the dark, Brighteyes has excellent hearing, and you're ability to sense the grounds we can't be beat. Until you find a place you like better?"

"..........."

Imogen gets a noncommittal expression as Trapinch turns away back towards the cliff-side.

...After a few moments, it gives a snort. Fine, whatever.

Imogen has successfully bonded with Trapinch! It is Level 13 and the remainder of its stats are up to your discretion.
