Spring Fling

For those who fear the encroaching flowers herald events of a slightly more urgent nature, perhaps it isn't really paranoia so much as sensibility.

Two days after they first appear, every single flower in Union blooms overnight. The sight is incredible - the entire city is blanketed in rainbow waves of color, and the scent of the flowers themselves is quite fragrant. The strange pink blossoms are particularly attractive.

For many of the residents of Union, however, the flowers may not be the first thing on their minds as things go a bit chaotic.

1. Enlightened with a Bug, Fairy, or Grass typing will become subject to extreme emotion swings. Primarily, the emotions will be positive, like overwhelming ecstasy, a sensation of giddiness, and a desire to spread cheer amongst their friends. These Enlightened may also suffer from confusion, an excessive amount of energy, and general loopiness. When not in sunlight, they'll swing towards the negative end of the emotional spectrum.

2. Bug, Grass, and Fairy type Pokémon have taken it upon themselves to settle into this new paradise, with the Bug types descending in swarms from above, and the Grass and Fairy types wandering in through the gates whenever the guards aren't looking. Though not violent, they'll be generally insensitive to the trouble they cause for the humans and will react negatively to anyone or anything harming the flowers.

3. Other strange Pokémon have also wandered into Union and while most appreciate the gentle sunlight, a few of the more mischievous have decided that the city could use some more variety. Each individual Castform may alter the weather between sun, rain, and hail within a certain area of the city ranging about two blocks. If Castform is creating Rain or Hail, Fairy, Bug, and Grass Enlightened will respond in a negative manner.

4. Allergies will be more fun to deal with than ever.

5. Finally, the following event Pokémon will be temporarily available to be bonded with as an extra bonus for this week. Please respond in the Map and Wild Pokemon post as per the usual to claim these. The level range is 5-8.

This event will end on April 13th. You may use this post as an IC mingle or make your own entries as you wish. If your character is a Fairy/Bug/Grass Enlightened and you prefer not to play the effects, you may opt-out.

[ Well, Union, Haruka doesn't want to say she told you so....but she totally told you so.

Not that it does her much good when she still isn't sure what's going on. Or when she discovers her Sewaddle's run off. ]

That little...

[ She summons her Pidgey and her Murkrow to help her search from midair and sets out. Things are changing around the city! She does not have time for this!

Any wild Pokémon that get in her way will be brushed aside with an absent harshness. ]

[ Meanwhile, in an alley somewhere, there's a raining Castform watering some flowers....with a little Sewaddle curled up on the paving stones underneath them. This rain. It is making him so sad. So, so sad. He wants to go home.

Somebody, help. ]

[Funny how she's been trying to avoid the sudden swarms all day and who should she come across but a familiar bug. Normally she probably wouldn't help a bug, but she not only recognizes it as Haruka's bug, but also that it is suffering.

It is times like this that she curses the fact she has analyst abilities AND psychic typing. It makes her far too attuned to these things.

Thankfully, she's not alone. Due to the rise in bug pokemon, Setsuna had taken to bringing Charon around with her. The HootHoot on her shoulder tilts its head at the bug but Setsuna holds up a hand to stop it.]

No. Stop the Castform.

[HootHoot blinks it's big eyes in surprise. That's the first time Setsuna HASN'T asked him to get a bug.]

Hoo?

[She sighs, hoping she won't regret this.]

That one is...a friend.

[HootHoot tilts his head as if questioning her sanity. But, she's never steered him wrong before. HootHoot focuses his gaze on the Castform and sends out strong vibes of Hynopsis to put the pokemon to sleep.]

[ The Castform turns when it first feels the effects, inquisitive and a little bit piqued. Excuse it! It's looking after the foliage....here.....wow, would this be a good time for a nap....

Its Rain form flickers and fades as Castform bobs in the air, trying with increasingly little success to remain afloat. Sewaddle, feeling the rain stop but still incredibly distraught, lifts his head and blinks up at Setsuna. He knows you...right?

His face is covered in tears and silk. Slowly, he lifts a leg towards her. ] S-sewaaa....

[Charon flaps his wings and moves closer to the Castform. He can keep it occupied while Setsuna works with the bug. Setsuna still isn't SURE about this bug thing mind you. But, the bug is a friend of a friend and Setsuna can't just leave it there looking so pitiful.]

Shhh. It's all right. I can take you somewhere less wet.

[She hesitates but then sighs, kneeling down and scooping up the bug. She holds him gently and slightly away from her but she ACTUALLY picked him up.]

Waaaddle! [ Unfortunately, Sewaddle has a different opinion about how far he should be from Setsuna: once he feels that there's human warmth here, and someone who wants to take care of him, he runs up Setsuna's arm to cling to her shoulder in misery. You came for him! You actually came for him! He loves you!!

Castform, meanwhile, is twirling slowly towards the ground, no longer raining and increasingly drowsy. By the time it touches down, it'll be asleep. ]

[Setsuna tenses as he moves up her arm. To her credit she doesn't scream, cry out, or throw the little bug off. Setsuna takes a deep breath]

Hoot?

[Setsuna looks to Charon who, with the Castform taken care of, is giving her a pointed look. He knows Setsuna very well and wants to know why she's putting up with this. Setsuna keeps her eyes on her owl. It's reassuring.]

He's a friend of a friend. I have to take care of him Charon.

[Charon eyes the bug and then huffs. Suit yourself Setsuna. She ignores him, closes her eyes, and then turns to glance at the bug on her shoulder.]

Do you know where your partner is?

[actsmagnificent]

[ Sewaddle sniffs, trying to pull himself together; this has the unfortunate effect of sending a piece of silk dripping from his mouth flying and sticking it to his own forehead. Apparently unaware of the uninspiring figure he cuts, he shakes his head. ] Sewa.

[ But you have him now, right? It'll all be okay? He huddles closer, getting a better grip on her shoulder. He's safe here. You're a friend, and he loves you. ]

[It's hard to continue being afraid and grossed out by Sewaddle when she can feel the emotions rolling off of him. She's not sure if that means she is over her fear or just slowly letting one bug get closer to her because he is different.]

I suppose we can try the Habitat first and work from there. You will be okay though, Natto.

Waddle.

[ Was that a smile? It's hard to tell, when the most one usually sees of a creature's mouth is pincers. But his eyes have crinkled up, and he seems a little calmer. This wonderful person said he will be okay. Therefore, he will be.

He's also up for looking anywhere Setsuna wants to. She is so smart. She must be right. ]

[Oh no! This Floette was exploring the flowers and avoiding the castform's rain, but then she hears Sewaddle's cry...

... she doesn't like that rain, but she has to be strong to protect others. So she's diving under it to reach him.

Are you okay? Do you need help?

... brrr, this raiiiin. She's shivering :( ]

Waddle.

[ Sewaddle has never met you before, Floette, but he'll cling to you all the same. It's so sad, new friend! Everything is so sad and he's all alone! Make the sadness go away, he's scared of it!

As the rain continues, he sniffles against Floette's front. ]

[Um, um, um. Maybe if she...

She's sending a Fairy Wind in the direction of the Castform. Not strong enough to hurt, but as a "there's someone here, please stop :(" sign]

[actsmagnificent]

[ Castform looks over and puffs itself up in indignation. What's the big idea here? To seem more threatening, it starts gathering clouds to itself.

Sewaddle huddles behind Floette as best he can (which is...not well, given he's larger than she is). You can do it! He will just....hide....while you do. ]

[You're scaring the other pokemon! >:|

She's actually fairly shaken by the rain herself, but spending so much time with Kaido has an advantage: she's mastered his scary snarling face. So giving you the STERNEST LOOK, castform]

[ That...gives Castform pause (it freezes, so to speak, halfway to freezing). And while frozen, it looks down and notices Sewaddle. Oh. ]

Form?

[ Slowly this Castform changes color, shifting to its Sunny form. Two and two haven't quite made four yet, but it wants to cheer Sewaddle up all the same. ] Form!

[ Unfortunately, this also means you get a blast of sun right to the face, Floette. Good luck with that. ]

[Ouch--okay that's a bit too harsh.

On the other hand, it brings her spirits back, so she takes it better than the rain. Shielding herself with her flower.

Thanks! Um, maybe a bit less strong?.

Because... yeah]

....Form.

[ Gotcha. Here comes the sun, just a bit less strong. These flowers it was looking after need that just as much as they need water, too...

Sewaddle's eyes are shining, however. There is a warm thing. And he made a new friend. Turning to the greenery all around them, he harvests two leaves and offers them to the Castform and Floette. Let's all make up and be friends. As proof of this, he'd like to decorate you. ] Sewa!

[Wow, who is that, all running around the city like zoom? So much energy! Feliks begins to run with her, cartwheeling a little at first, then not cartwheeling anymore because it is really difficult to keep up with her at his height.]

Dude, dude! Like, how come you're running everywhere? Are you just like, super pumped it's spring? I totally am! Wanna have a race?

Do I look interested? [ Haruka lifts a flower to check - no, that's a different bug Pokémon, not Sewaddle. Shoot. She can't afford to spend much more time looking for him.

She barely appears to have heard you, Feliks. Maybe you need to be even louder. ]

[Feliks basically just ignores her reply entirely! He's not too attentive to start with, and the spring fever has only made it worse.]

Why are you stopping to look at so much stuff, that's totally gonna slow you--

Wait wait, I got it! It's like, a scavenger hunt! So like, what are you looking for?

[actsmagnificent]

....Are you feeling all right?

[ That much energy just...isn't normal. And considering the way some of the Pokémon out here have been behaving - and the fact the one that went missing is a Bug-type, who normally stays close.....yeah, she's concerned. ]

Yeah, totally! Never better!

[He bounces for a moment, then leans over to check under a nearby leaf for whatever she's looking for.]

It's like, I went to bed last night all "ugh, I'm so done with people!" but when I woke up, it was just, like... Sunny, and awesome, and spring!

[actsmagnificent]

That'd do it. [ She's muttering to herself. If Sewaddle woke up feeling the same way, then....Yes, Haruka could see that. He's out here harvesting flowers somewhere and giddy out of his tiny, naive mind.

Okay, nothing for it but to follow the guy exhibiting the same symptoms. Lovely. ] Alright. I'll accompany you.

Sweet! But like, you never told me what we're looking for. It's like, um, how am I supposed to beat you at the scavenger hunt if I don't know what the thing is when I see it?

[ To tell a convenient lie to get him out of the way, or truth on the offchance he might be useful? Hmm.

Well, there's no harm in getting him to search too if he's that keen on it. ] Calling my Pokémon a "thing"'s pretty cruel.

[ She holds up her hands to indicate scale. ] Bug-type. About this big. He's probably somewhere with flowers.

[ Haruka, that is not helpful at present. ]
