Spring Fling

For those who fear the encroaching flowers herald events of a slightly more urgent nature, perhaps it isn't really paranoia so much as sensibility.

Two days after they first appear, every single flower in Union blooms overnight. The sight is incredible - the entire city is blanketed in rainbow waves of color, and the scent of the flowers themselves is quite fragrant. The strange pink blossoms are particularly attractive.

For many of the residents of Union, however, the flowers may not be the first thing on their minds as things go a bit chaotic.

1. Enlightened with a Bug, Fairy, or Grass typing will become subject to extreme emotion swings. Primarily, the emotions will be positive, like overwhelming ecstasy, a sensation of giddiness, and a desire to spread cheer amongst their friends. These Enlightened may also suffer from confusion, an excessive amount of energy, and general loopiness. When not in sunlight, they'll swing towards the negative end of the emotional spectrum.

2. Bug, Grass, and Fairy type Pokémon have taken it upon themselves to settle into this new paradise, with the Bug types descending in swarms from above, and the Grass and Fairy types wandering in through the gates whenever the guards aren't looking. Though not violent, they'll be generally insensitive to the trouble they cause for the humans and will react negatively to anyone or anything harming the flowers.

3. Other strange Pokémon have also wandered into Union and while most appreciate the gentle sunlight, a few of the more mischievous have decided that the city could use some more variety. Each individual Castform may alter the weather between sun, rain, and hail within a certain area of the city ranging about two blocks. If Castform is creating Rain or Hail, Fairy, Bug, and Grass Enlightened will respond in a negative manner.

4. Allergies will be more fun to deal with than ever.

5. Finally, the following event Pokémon will be temporarily available to be bonded with as an extra bonus for this week. Please respond in the Map and Wild Pokemon post as per the usual to claim these. The level range is 5-8.

This event will end on April 13th. You may use this post as an IC mingle or make your own entries as you wish. If your character is a Fairy/Bug/Grass Enlightened and you prefer not to play the effects, you may opt-out.

Yeah, totally! Never better!

[He bounces for a moment, then leans over to check under a nearby leaf for whatever she's looking for.]

It's like, I went to bed last night all "ugh, I'm so done with people!" but when I woke up, it was just, like... Sunny, and awesome, and spring!

That'd do it. [ She's muttering to herself. If Sewaddle woke up feeling the same way, then....Yes, Haruka could see that. He's out here harvesting flowers somewhere and giddy out of his tiny, naive mind.

Okay, nothing for it but to follow the guy exhibiting the same symptoms. Lovely. ] Alright. I'll accompany you.

Sweet! But like, you never told me what we're looking for. It's like, um, how am I supposed to beat you at the scavenger hunt if I don't know what the thing is when I see it?

[ To tell a convenient lie to get him out of the way, or truth on the offchance he might be useful? Hmm.

Well, there's no harm in getting him to search too if he's that keen on it. ] Calling my Pokémon a "thing"'s pretty cruel.

[ She holds up her hands to indicate scale. ] Bug-type. About this big. He's probably somewhere with flowers.

[ Haruka, that is not helpful at present. ]

Okay. Okay, like, flowers, bug type...

[He runs around for a few moments, then grabs a rather startled-looking Venonat from a nearby bush.]

Is this him?

[ Yeesh, poor Venonat. Haruka shakes her head. ] He collects leaves. D'you want to check that side of the street?

[ For once she's not actively trying to get rid of an assistant: splitting up does make more sense if there's two people on the hunt. ]

Okay, got it!

[He wanders over to the other side of the street, peering under flowers, bushes, boxes, wagons, and anything else that isn't nailed down.]

[ Haruka's examination of this side of the street is more cursory - her eyes are tracking for movement, plus bright splashes of color. He's liked flowers so far...

Because her legs are longer and she's not being as meticulous, she starts to pull ahead on her side of the road. She doesn't seem to notice, either. ]

[He peeks his head around a corner, and stumbles across... A Castform! And now it's hailing.]

[...And the sunlight is blocked, and he's just... Really, really lonely all of a sudden. What is he doing here? Why bother?]

[ ...Hm. No Sewaddle around here. How's her assistant making out--

Hey. Hey, that's....bizarre. She approaches just to observe at first, trying to figure out why he's just letting it hail on him. ] You can move, y'know.

[ But there's a prickle of unease at the back of her mind. Something else is going on. ]

[He blinks up at her for a second, then shakes his head, fussing with the sleeve of his blouse.]

I mean, yeah...? But what's it really gonna do, right?

It'll be drier.

[ Not to mention sunnier. She sticks her hands in her pockets, still not making a move. Weren't you just really excited....

Wait. Wait, is that what's affecting everyone? Pondering Castform for a moment, she turns as if she's going to walk away. ] Fine. I'll take all the sunlight for myself.

[Take all the sun away? Can she do that? Feliks flinches a little, taking a step towards her, but not getting out of the shadows.]

You totally can't! That's so terrible, oh my gods, why would you do that?

[ ....wow you. You fell for that literally. That is amazing. Playing along, Haruka runs a hand through her bangs, cool and competent as can be. Look, she's sparkling. This is clearly someone capable of hogging all the sunlight on the planet. ]

What'll you do about it?

[Whatever Feliks has going for him, no one has ever claimed it's his brilliant deductive prowess. He looks up at her, apparently on the verge of actual tears.]

I... I'll, like, fight you! So don't do it!

You can try.

[ Come at her, bro. Or well, go anywhere you like, just get out of the hail. She's testing a theory here. ]

[Is she bullying him? His sudden fit of pessimism is moving him　towards that conclusion, but something even less familiar than the pessimism stays his hand. Flames flicker around his hand, but he's hesitant. Afraid.]

What do you even want?

Come over here and see. Don't worry - I'll let you go first.

[ She doesn't actually have any intention of hurting him, and it'd probably be simpler to just chase the Castform away, but Haruka's brain doesn't work like that. Getting him to step out from under the cloud however she has to is her top priority. ]

[Feliks doesn't trust her. Why does she want him to go first? Is it a trap? It's a trap, isn't it?]

[He shakes his head, dashing off to hide behind a nearby barrel. You can't trick him, sun-thief!]

[ Yeah, but is the barrel beneath the hail? That's the important question, here.

Haruka gives the Castform a look as if to go "can you believe this guy?" and waits to see if anything's changed. Maybe if she stares down this Castform it'll get lost, too... ]

[Unfortunately, judging by the thunking of ice on wood, it is almost certainly hailing near the barrel. Woe, woe and despair!]

[...Except that Haruka's plan to scare off the Castform works much better, and the hail lets up shortly after it disappears, letting the sun in again. Feliks emerges, blinking, from behind the barrel.]

...Well, that was super weird.

[ Haruka nods; her antagonistic attitude has completely vanished, and instead she's squinting up at the sun like there's something important written on it or something. ] I'd stay out of the shade today. It's a downer.

Yeah, to the max. No big, though! I'm way better now~!

[Aaaaand he's sparkling again.]

Good for you. [ Has she just been out-sparkled? Haruka's not in a sparkly mood right now herself, though. Perhaps someday, on even turf, a true victor will be determined.

She looks around. ] Doesn't look like he's here. I'll track down places where it's raining. You stay in the sun.

[ Not that she cares. If Sewaddle's trapped in a lousy weather zone, though, a "rescuer" who feels the effects too won't be of much use. ]

Good plan! The sun's super gorgeous today, anyway, so your friend's probably chilling out in it, right?

[Aaaand off he goes again!]
