The vast wilderness beckons! Beginning January 25th, 2014, all wild Pokémon threads that aren't incorporated as part of another post should go here. You are still welcome to include a section for bonding with wild Pokémon as a part of another entry or a log, but we encourage isolated wild Pokémon threads to go here to prevent flooding of the main comm with entries specifically geared to only cover wild Pokémon threads.

Yes, I guess so. Maybe near an old tree then?

[She points to a gnarled old oak not far from a pool. Cass has started rooting around it, snuffling and wiggling her tail.]

Actually, looking around old trees is probably the perfect spot for a den.

[Mitsuru follows the line of sight to where her friend is pointing and the Absol is digging around. It's... she can hear a whiny, sniffling growl coming from the hole. She gently pushes Cassandra out of the way and looks closer.]

I think we've found one, but...he seems injured.

[frozenflame]

Cassandra! Get out of the way.

[Yukiko starts to honest to Arceus glow as she steps forward, confident in her ability to help the injured Pokemon. It may be a little odd, as Yukiko's using Sunny Day...which strengthens her types and weakens Ice.]

I'll take care of it, Mitsuru.

[iceandwhips]

[Mitsuru squints in the face of her friend's glow, feeling a little lightheaded. Skadi makes a noise of discomfort as well.

It must be a Fire-type ability then. It's the only explanation for why the both of them are affected to this degree.]

Are you sure? I might be able to reach him. He's by himself right now.

[frozenflame]

Can you heal a Pokemon? Let me help it, then we'll see if it wants to bond with you.

[She smiles genuinely, but holds up a hand that's pulsing with greenish light.]

My gift is to be a healer. Let me do that for you.

[iceandwhips]

[No, she can't. Her typing isn't anywhere near that, ability-wise. Not yet.]

You're right. Of course.

[She and Skadi move out of the way of the other girl, allowing her access to the injured Growlithe. She can be patient. It's not terribly difficult, especially since Yukiko could help immediately.

She hoped.]

[And Yukiko reaches out to the Growlithe, that glowing palm intensifying.

There's a brief flicker of confusion, but then it's wound just...vanishes in a pulse of light.]

There. He'll be just fine. So, why don't you see what it has to say?

[iceandwhips]

[It is informative to watch her friend work. And the speed at which the wound heals is amazing.]

It's almost as if it was never there. Is he still in pain?

[There's something else bothering her about this whole thing.]

Growlithe are seldom alone. Where is the rest of his pack?

[frozenflame]

He shouldn't be.

[She looks down at the poor thing, but takes a step back, gesturing to Mitsuru.]

Why don't you ask him? Your Warp Band will let you...

[iceandwhips]

[Mitsuru takes a long look at the Growlithe, getting more information about him than she thought possible. Thank you, Analyst abilities.

Level 14. Fire type. Flash Fire Ability. A few abilities that would be useful.

It's all interesting, but not what she wants to know.]

Can you tell me what happened?

Grrrr. Grrrr.

His mother got into a fight with a Ducklett and died. That's how he was injured. This was their den.

[Yukiko stands back and watches, the glow visibly dimming around her. It's out of her hands now. Let Mitsuru handle things.]

[iceandwhips]

[While she's not exactly the expert her friend is at bonding with Pokémon, Mitsuru is able to get closer to the canine now that he's not hurt.

A light growl comes out, but she holds her hand close to his nose so he can sniff her, get her scent and see if he's okay with her being there. Skadi, for once, is merely watching, observing the spectacle as only a Snorunt can, on top of Mitsuru's head, watching patiently to see if this is a new friend or something she can tease.

The Growlithe, for his part, growls a little bit more before sniffing the pale hand in front of him. He makes a tiny whine and then licks her.]

I'll take that as a good sign. Hello there, boy.

[frozenflame]

Use your Warp Band, Mitsuru.

[It's the only advice Yukiko can offer. Because that's just how bonding works...]

[iceandwhips]

Yes, of course.

[Mitsuru looks back at her friend, feeling a bit embarrassed at having to be reminded of something so simple. The Warp Band helps her and the Pokémon communicate with each other, helps translate their feelings towards one another.

She presses the button on the side of the band, watching for the first time in years that it's been activated as such. A flash of light shoots out at the Growlithe, and suddenly she can see flashes of what happened to him, how he feels, what he wants.

She hopes that he can see what sort of person she is, what it is she hopes and feels and wants just as well. If she were a Kindred Soul, it would be easier, but she is herself and she wouldn't want to change that. Or him.

Before she can reconsider it all, the Growlithe licks her hand again before shoving his head under it. Unconsciously, she strokes his soft fur, a pleased smile on her face. He wants to go home with her.]

It's worked.

[frozenflame]

[Yukiko smiles warmly, approvingly even, and stoops beside Mitsuru to look over the puppy while casually rubbing Cassandra's head. It was touching in a way, seeing Mitsuru doing her first bonding. There was something almost religious about it honestly, given how important it as in Union.]

And that's your first step to becoming a trainer. Your first wild bonding.

[iceandwhips]

[She still can't believe that it went so well. Not that she would have given up if this bonding had failed, but it would have been a major setback.]

I expected it to be more difficult, but I'm not unhappy with its ease. I should name him.

Something strong and noble like himself.

[frozenflame]

Well, bonding comes easily, you know. Once you know what to do, and especially after helping a Pokemon out.

[Cassandra purrs, acknowledging that.]

It's...mastering the rest of it that gets difficult.

[iceandwhips]

I suppose there's a truth to that. He does seem grateful that we found him and healed him.

[She picks the puppy up and holds him to her chest as she stands. Skadi climbs out of her hair and looks down from her shoulder at the other Pokémon with a semi-pleased expression on her face. As if the new creature has met with some standard the Snorunt set for her companions.]

What do you think of Koromaru? [She's met with a happy bark and her smile widens. But her friend's comment gives her pause.]

The rest of what?

[frozenflame]

I like the sound of it. And we can shorten it to Koro-chan.

[Yukiko reaches over too, to let the pup have a sniff if she wants.]

And the rest of being a trainer? You do intend to, right?

[iceandwhips]

Koro-chan? What do you think, my new friend?

[Koromaru barks again before sniffing happily at Yukiko's hand and licking it as well. He seems to have no fear of either girl, so that works out for everyone involved.]

Yes, I would like to be able to do it all. I have no illusions about it being easy. Skadi has been relatively easy, but even she has her moments where she leads Mother's Torchic into snow banks during the winter for fun.

[frozenflame]

[Aww, have a headrub, sweetie.]

Well, then I guess we'll be working together more often than before, hmm?

[Not that she seems to mind.]

I'm still new at it myself, but I've definitely felt like I'm accomplishing something with it all. It's good to be involved, and it'll help you grow. And evolve too.

[iceandwhips]

[Koromaru's tail wags happily and he seems like a different puppy than the one they found in the den now that he's healed up.]

Mother will approve of that. And Father will be pleased that I'm doing what I want for a change.

[Not that she isn't happy about that either. She is fond of her friend, greatly, but expressing that isn't the easiest thing for her.]

I hope to have the feeling of being useful once more, outside of my family's company. There's only so much I can do there that will benefit our city and world. I'd like to meet your other friends as well. I'm sure they're lovely people.

Well, I still don't have too many of them.

[And she's super unsure of Yu.]

But Rise, Chie, and Kanji are all nice, and pretty friendly. They're trainers too, so it shouldn't be difficult for you to find common ground.

Rise? As in Rise Kujikawa? My family sponsored a few of her performances before she went on sabbatical. I actually ran into her during a visit to the shrines.

That's right. The singer. She's someone I've known...but not well...for a while now. She used to frequent the spa. But lately we've started talking more.
