[The trip out this way hadn't been easy, even for someone with Anko's skills. Tracking over rough terrain she could do just fine, anyone from home could manage that, but Orochimaru had been fairly particular about where his hideouts were. And that meant not only being hard to find, but also difficult to reach. Scaling the rock wall had been the first real challenge, and locating the entrance amid the piles and piles of boulders had been another...but after nearly three hours of searching, she found the right place.

Staring at the rough-hewn outline, she allowed herself a brief moment of thought. The map that had led her here wasn't anything more than a map...but seeing it, feeling something click into place, that'd been like a spark of hope she hadn't dared to dream about for so long. It's possible her friend was alive. And it was possible too, that she might find a clue that'd point her in the direction of that man, and more of her memories.]

But...first things first. Cave, let's do this. Spelunking. Let's go.

[And in she steps, starting off down the dim passageway, lighting a torch as she does.]

[It doesn't seem as if anyone's been in here for a while! The air is quite musty and the torch throws light on grimy walls. The passageway is respectably long and extends out before her...

Somewhere in the distance, Anko will hear faint sounds. A bit like chittering.]

[Anko's free hand strays towards her belt, plucking a simple steel kunai from a pouch. It's a precautionary measure, since she's not looking to fight a zubat swarm with it...but the metal feels comforting in her hand.

Proceedings with her eyes peeled, she continues on, albeit a little more cautiously than before.]

I mean ahem

The chittering stays faint as she progresses, seeming to always keep just out of range of sight. ...If there's anything actually there at all.

The end of the cave comes up soon enough as she rounds a corner. Looks like there's nothing there after all!]

[It's always zubats. This is a cave...

And as she rounds the corner, she snorts at the back wall. Figures. But maybe there's something here anyway. Walking over to the wall she begins to poke around, looking for possible side-tunnels, trick doors, the sort of things that might be used to hide a madman's hideout. Including looking up.]

[There is nothing!

...But did she look behind her?

Without much further warning, Anko is struck by a Sticky Web. It's... wild Spinarak! Three of them clustered on the walls of the tunnel. There must be smaller openings that only they can maneuver through...]

[With a growl she turns to face the Spinarak, her lips curling into a sneer. Okay, so the kunai is stuck in her hand by the trap? Well that's hardly a problem since her feet are free.]

Seriously? You wanna do this? Fine.

[She leaps forward with superhuman agility and holds out a hand. Psychic energy ripples along her arm and several ropes fly towards one Spinarak, wrapping it up and beginning to squeeze almost independently of her actions. Oh, and she's also trying to stab one with the sticky knife. Because bugs are yuck, okay?]

[The other two Spinarak seem perfectly fine with this and begin to shoot String Shots right at Anko, binding up her top and bottom. It won't be too long before she's encased in a massive web of threads!

Looks like this is pretty standard hunting procedure for this nest of spiders.

The wrapped Spinarak will sit there and waggle a Scary Face in her direction, dropping her mobility even further.]

[The wrapped up one will be flung off to one side, to let him crash into the other two and disrupt the String Shots a bit while still crushing him. Because the animated rope doesn't really care to have anyone trying to steal it's trick.

And Anko, contrary to what the standard prey for these things might be, isn't foolish enough to let herself get caught up like that. She calms her aggression, skips a few steps back, and then attacks the entire group with a Confusion, remembering Spinarak's general weakness to the psychic power of her clan.]

[It's enough for a temporary reprieve, but the Spinarak are absolutely intent on wrapping her up as a snack for later! The String Shot just keeps coming and it's harder and harder to do much of anything but struggle against the sticky bonds. Especially as more string begins to fly in from behind as another few spiders crawl out of some holes...

Could this be the end of our intrepid explorer, doomed to an ignoble arachnid filled demise before even stepping foot in Un -- ]

Hssssssssssssssss...

[And out of nowhere, strong jaws snap down and cut through the threads like... well, like scissors cutting through thread!

A not quite wild Ekans has appeared!]

[Anko's secretly cursing her own idiocy in not bringing more fire along for the trip. They've gotten her feet wrapped up good and she needs more time than she has to cut loose, and more psychic attacks may help...but they aren't going to drop all the creatures in a single blow. She's about to take a risk and focus more on getting some breathing space to clean off string when she feels the tension slacken and turns to see the Ekans. This has a twofold effect on her.

First is a surge of joy as she feels the affection the snake has for her.

And the second is, of course, a rekindled fury. Because she's not going to find her partner and then get them both eaten.

The knife hacks away at the bonds on her legs, and more focus increases her agility further and further. Rolling backwards, more ropes launching out to smash into spiders, and needles fly out as she flings them, trying to pin those not hit by the ropes.

Hopefulllllly Ekans will help out with that and watch her back. She's not got eyes on the back of her head, and she's running low on rope...]

[Well this is unfortunate.

The element of surprise is gone and Anko isn't hampered in any way whatsoever, alas. ...The Spinarak chitter in surprise and mill about a little bit, occasionally getting struck by needles and rope before deciding that they'd better regroup.

...This entails throwing more string and webs at the duo, which is a shock, they're sure.

Ekans will help out here by shooting them all a deadly Glare, which freezes a few in place before they can shoot anything else.]

[Anko attacks with another Confusion, aiming for the ones that are frozen in place to set an example. Stupid things may as well get knocked silly. And for good measure, any that aren't running at least a little bit are getting Wrapped up again.]

Thanks buddy. I missed you.

[Because she's sure, now, that this is her missing partner.]

[It's too much for one of the paralyzed Spinarak! It topples backwards and twitches as it faints. The others are barely hanging in there but scuttle away as quickly as they can, twitching every few steps.

The remaining healthy Spinarak decide that maybe they should just wait for the next time they come in and ambush them again and quietly retreat with dignity.

...Or they shake their butts at Anko in annoyance and run away.

Ekans huffs a little bit in mock irritation at this. If she hadn't gone and left, their old home wouldn't have become infested with these things, you know?]

[Ah...stupid bugs. Still, Anko turns to the snake and gives it a Mareepish grin in return.]

Well, sorry. Not like I had much choice, y'know. [And then that fades into a real smile and she crouches down.]

Sorry I left you. I...never would've if I could've avoided it. You okay?

[Ekans will twine around Anko's feet affectionately. Of course it was OK! Spiders didn't really want anything to do with poisonous snakes, right?

Besides, someone needed to keep all her stuff.]

[She holds out her arm, offering a palm for Ekans to crawl up onto if it wants. It's nice, stirring up feelings of nostalgia she thought she'd lost forever. And it has the additional effect of jarring loose an avalanche of memories. The first time they'd gone hunting together, the first mission, the 'blech' incident, and a lot of other fond times. And...not so fond times, after they'd left with their teacher.

Smiling, she looks around the cave.]

You kept all that stuff? Figured it would've been Spinarak food by now.

[She can go check for herself!

And Anko will find that most of what she expects to be there will still be intact, though dusty and dirty and possibly decayed.]

[She'll do just that. Most of it is, in fact, junk. But there's a knife there, her old 'sword' from when she was a kid when it was way too big, that she picks up. Along with a necklace containing a dried Venipede tail.

Slipping that on, Anko looks down at Ekans.]

Well. Do you want to come with me? Or are you upset with me? [On comes the Warp Band...]
