[Hiccup could tell why the Charmander was avoiding accepting he offer. He hated being looked at with pity himself. But the Fire-type needed the food, and Hiccup was going to talk it into taking it, whether Charmander liked it or not. He pulled his sandwich out of it's bag, starting in on one of the cut halves.]

Hey, I'm sure you're perfectly capable of [He took a bite, holding his finger up as an indication to wait a sec, and swallowed.] getting food on your own. Just didn't you'd be willing to pass up a free meal. Especially a meal as tasty as this one. Guess I'll just see if there's a Pidgey up for taking it off my hands later.

[Pidgey?! Those things were like cockroaches they never went away. They don't need your charity.

The Charmander grumbles again and cautiously takes a few steps closer to Hiccup. It guesses he can toss some food if he really wants.]

Changed your mind, huh bud?

[Hiccup took the other half, and, placing it on top of the bag, poured water on it and mashed it into pulp.]

[The Charmander stares for a few moments at the mush, it eyes darting briefly to Hiccup.

How did he know it had hid it so well...

But after a moment's hesitation, it will slowly begin to lick up the mash.]

[Hiccup eats alongside the Charmander in silence. Once they're both done, Hiccup holds up his warp band.]

You mind if I turn this thing on? I mean, I know you can understand everything I say, and I can sorta get a good read on you, but it's supposed to help us communicate better.

[Charmander squints at whatever Hiccup is holding up suspiciously, but... it has no clue what that is, and it doesn't look dangerous, so why not?]

[And the Warp Band is activated, temporarily linking Hiccup and the Charmander]

Alright, so I told you why I was out here. Question is, why are you out here?

[Because the feng shui here is good for channeling the energies it needs to properly mope.

Because it was born here and its mom probably got eaten by a Houndour or something and it has no food, why does he think?]

Okay, so yeah, admittedly, that was kind of a dumb question.

Your mom's gone? Mine too. No clue what happened to her either. Dad only occasionally acknowledges I exist, and when he does it's because he thinks I'm going to break in half if something breathes on me funny.

[Toothless gives a sort of shrug.

Maybe it's good to listen to something else sometimes. ...For what it's worth, it's pretty sure its parents ditched it. They're probably still half-digested, anyway, but who knows?]

[That got Hiccup to thinking. Obviously, as much as the Charmander wasn't likely to admit it, Toothless wasn't going to survive out here much longer. And even without the Warp Band, they were able to read each other pretty well...]

Okay, this may sound a little crazy, but what do you think about coming back with me?

Charmander doesn't look like it's chomping too much at the bit. It didn't know anything about him or his kind...]

I think you'd like it. Plenty of food, nothing trying to eat you...

Plus, I kinda wanna try and be friends with you, and that wouldn't exactly be easy if you're all the way out here. If you're on the fence about it, you can just stick around there for a week, and then if you really don't want to stay there, you can come back here. I won't even try to stop you.

[The Charmander is quiet for a moment or two. ...It will use this silence to go ahead and slurp down the remainder of the mush.
