Invasion: Start

The morning after the meteor shower, things start as they always do. Union’s gearing up for another day: people going to work, shops opening, kids heading to school, and foremen getting their crews to work on the last of the damage left by Kyurem’s rampage through the city. It’s just an ordinary day, with only a passing thought given to yesterday’s odd occurrences by anyone outside the scientific and psychic communities. There’s some very real theories floating around there, but there’s little real chance at anything solid coming from the discourse. At least, until reports start coming up Route 1 from the single port started by one Union entrepreneur two years ago. It’d grown quickly with Gigan help, seaborne trade flowing up the lone road, and now it was completely overrun.

Panicked sailors and land crew come streaming up the way, nursing hundreds and hundreds of Bug-type induced injuries. Beedrill stings, Spinarak bites, and photographs of several enormous members of a new species that’d yet to be recorded quickly circulate and prompt Council response. Whatever these things are, they’re clearly hostile and the risk of damage to the city itself seems likely given how quickly the port had been overwhelmed.

With the city still shaken by Kyurem’s attack, the Council wasted no time. The call to arms was put out and trainers hastily sent out to deal with the sudden intrusion. Anyone willing and able to fight was asked to head down the road as quickly as possible, with the intent of sorting this out and either diverting the tide or stopping the invasion cold. The road itself is deserted, abandoned wagons left in a hurry, and not a single wild Pokemon can be heard for miles. It’s almost like they were aware something big was coming, and even the more aggressive types clearly opted to clear out.

When it comes into view, the port itself seems to be in particularly bad shape. Smoke rises up into the horizon, and hundreds and hundreds of Bug types swarm all over the structures, chewing away at the wood and stone. But perhaps the most troublesome sight is the beings that are overseeing the attack. Several members of the new species, fifteen feet tall at minimum, twenty at the peak, direct the swarm in its efforts. And further out to sea, a singularly massive specimen, some forty feet tall, watches it all, hunched forward, dark eyes gleaming with interest as its minions go to work…

Veronica stands her ground in the face of these attacks, sweeping a hand across the scene to scatter Ember: she's hoping to burn up that powder, but if she hits some Bugs, she won't complain. Nemesis takes to the air, hoping to explode that bomb in midair by hitting it with Air Cutter.

"The same orders apply," she tells the others, then turns to the giant Pokémon with what might look like a smile on her face. Almost like she's encouraging it to get closer.

If she and her companions don't turn out to have taken care of all that powder, though, they'll have a time limit.

Okay, fine. Marginally less giant bugs it'll have to be. World Shaking is busy trying to determine whether anyone's left in the port (he is very useful for freeing trapped people, though he'll steer clear of Rapidash's extermination efforts), and Haruka trusts him enough to leave him to that. She can focus on her air battle. Especially since she can count on Michiru to handle a shield.

With Rushing Wind providing a Tailwind to propel their group forward in the air, Haruka steers her into the fray to strike out with Air Slash, hoping to clear a path. Michiru will follow. That much she knows.

Keith she'll give the benefit of the Tailwind to, but otherwise leave to his own devices. She's curious how well he handles himself in a fight.

Idle curiosity, of course. Testing one's lodgers by pretending not to care what happens to them is perfectly normal.

The Pokémon Kaiser doesn't falter (and it's not because his knees just locked in place, that would be absurd). And why should he? He even has this fool willing to sacrifice itself for him of its own accord! This "reveal his true power" plan is going quite nicely.

Of course, relying on an idiot like this would be just as foolhardy as leaping in front of that blast himself.

"Teleport," he ordered the Ralts with a calm smile, vanishing and hoping to appear again out of range. Gyarados, meanwhile, takes to the sky itself, also under orders. It hopes to gain the advantage of height on their attackers.

The Pokémon Kaiser continues to have a Plan.

Loken and his companions weather the bug and poison assault rather well, particularly Garviel. He counters by lashing out with the paragon blade, lightning-typed though it is, having little idea of it will be effective against the bugs or not.

As for his companions, Riolu unleashes a Force Palm trying to smash the bug types back. Ampharos moves forward and unleashes a Discharge like an oversized bug zapper, and his other Pokemon stand by for the next wave.

"Let's thin out the swarm a bit..."

He looks at Mei, then at the water, and says,

"An idea occurs! Can you freeze the water so we can head out towards those who command the swarm?"

That's annoying, but then again bugs were annoying so Keith just kind of gives the incoming swarm a 'tch' and-- OH UP WE GO.

It surprises him for a moment, but the wind isn't a stranger to him, and he easily rights himself. Seemingly unbothered by being flung into the air towards a horde of bugs. He fights back with Incinerate.

His Luxio stays where he is on the Salamence but offers a Spark To anything that gets too close, with luck it might stun a few enough to drop them into the water.

Gordon hunches in his coat at the attack, it's magical steel typing, combined with the long coat covering most of his body, protecting him from the worst of the attacks, as long as nothing gets to his exposed lower legs, hands, or face.

His pokemon fair even better. Manny the Skarmory just shrugs off the attacks, it's dual type advantage leaving it free to fly through the swarm, striking out with Air Cutter.

On his other side, Arcanine, already long hair standing on end to strike an even more Intimidating figure, bounds through the swarm, cutting a path with Heat Wave, the pokemon's body burning hot enough that the heat distortion around it is clearly visible to the naked eye, though it's careful to give Mei some space to breath.

"Sounds like a plan to me. Rusty will have to head back to Union for a bit, but the idea's not a bad one."

"Looks like they have other ideas. Careful, they're part steel as well-"

There's hardly time for Raine to dole out more than that, as once the attack begins, she quickly switches to defensive tactics, casting a light screen around them, and preparing another spell to follow it.

Limone the Pikachu hops to attention, using his lightning rod ability to draw the electrical attack toward him.

"Looks like we're not talking our way out of this!" Rose yells. She jumps, as the Sonic Boom comes in, and then she shoots forward in the air. She vanishes in a burst of shadowy strands of light. Then, she reappears in the midst of some of the Bug-types. Her knives slash out in a flurry, trying to slash through several of them in a blink.

"Try to thin their ranks!" she yells. "We need to stop 'em here!"

She keeps an eye on the Kaiser. Her Ditto, though, looks straight at the Pokemon commanding them. The one with the huge cannon on its back. The Ditto narrows its eyes, focuses, and then...

...one identical to the commander appears!

This was quickly turning unamusing, as Arachne whispers a few quick orders to her pokemon allies. Almost as soon as the Kaiser vanishes, the Abra also uses teleport, taking itself, Arachne and the Litwick to the top of one of the nearby structures.

The Gabite is left below, though he spreads his arms out straight and runs in a semi-circle, though it becomes evident that he's summoning up a sandstorm.

As Sinbad was going to answer that everyone in his group were capable of light, the bugs attacked. He starts to cough then quickly covers the lower half of his face with his shirt to keep from breathing too much in.

The Gengar being part-poison seem to have little trouble with the powder, and with an annoyed scowl it charges towards the Dustox and Venomoths, it's fists crackling with a Thunder Punch, while the Dragonite launches Waves of thunder to paraylze as many as he could to give the group breathing room.

Sinbad took to the air to try to get above the poisonous dust, scanning their surroundings for what they can use to their advantage.

Yuuna doesn't even have to issue a command. What Limone can't cover is made up for by the titan, Kuroshi. The Golurk, nearly as tall as the aggressive extraterrestrial, steps in front of the group, and the Zap Cannon simply dissipates as it comes into contact with him.

"If that's how it's going to be...Turnip, you turn up the heat."

With a hooting cry, the Infernape leaps up onto Kuroshi's domed head and releases a Flamethrower, spraying it at the horde of bugs. Yuuna herself starts shaping a ball of her essence, a sphere of blue-white energy that she hurls at the gigantic steel-type as an Aura Sphere!

"I think we should focus on the smaller ones!" Mei squawks, awkwardly diving out of Rusty's way and aiming her heat ray into the heart of the swarm and blasting at it with a Flamethrower!

"They...ow! itch!"

Thankfully her heavy coat and frozen nature do a lot to lessen the impacts at least. It's not much buuuut better than nothing.

"But yes! Let me try!"

Pressing her hands into the ground she wills frost up out of it, pulling moisture out of the air and working to flash-freeze it in a sheet along the ground. She can't directly affect the water this far away, but a spinarakweb of ice starts to rapidly move down the land towards the ocean, and a wall of ice comes up between the group and the invader commanding their swarm. just to buy some space.

He got airborne? That puts Sinbad in an advantageous position. Veronica, continuing to raise the sunlight in the area as much as she can, summons Weather Ball and tosses it into the thick of the fray. She knows she's just buying time, though. If the enemy can replenish its forces this easily, they have to find an alternate method of getting around this problem.

Nemesis tries Supersonic, hoping to Confuse the bugs into fighting among each other (or dealing damage to themselves).

A willing sacrifice has stepped up for the sake of the Pokémon Kaiser's glory! Better and better.

"Hyper Beam," he orders his Gyarados, which obliges, aiming at the alien while it's busy with Ditto. Ralts grabs onto its liege and uses Double Team to try and avoid the Signal Beam.

Some might consider this a rash plan, given the recharge period. But the Kaiser has no intentions of going easy in his public debut.

Raine's not finished with her defense spells yet, as she quickly casts reflect, hopefully in time to block that attack. Then she quickly glances to the pokemon floating nearest to her.

"Yutis, we need you."

In response, the Castform gives a little bob before it does what it's become accustomed to doing in situations like these, it's little body taking on a glow before form shifting (as much as it dislikes doing so), into it's sunny form to cast sunny day. The fire power could use a boost.

Loken is fine, almost no-selling the blast from behind his staunch and stolid steel-typing but his Anorith is sent skittering back and chitters in pain before curling up and taking cover behind him. Garviel picks it up, half turning his back on their insectile foes.

Riolu almost dances across the ice towards the mysterious invader, before using a Low sweep in response to the techno blast, which has hurt it but not as badly as his Anorith.

His Ampharos steps from behind the Calderan, also somewhat injured by the blast, but it unleashes a blast of Thunder it would seem Garviel's friends don't have any fire typed amongst them, so he's just unleashing a pummeling with whatever they've got.

Gordon flinches back, the steel typing of his coat doing little against the blast, which throws him back, catching Rusty as well, the Arcanine looking the worse for wear, and not just because sodden fur looks bad on just about any animal. The Skarmory fairs somewhat better, flying towards the Genesect to unleash an Air Slash.

Gordon touches his band, and a Hitmonchan appears, before Rusty regains their feet, looking intently towards the Genesect, growling deep in it's throat before unleashing a Flamethrower. It's hurt, but it's not ready to give up the fight yet.

"Agh!" Haruka puts a hand in front of her mouth and squints, trying not to inhale the powder; mentally, she informs Rushing Wind a Hurricane would be great right about now - both to try and blow away the powder, weigh it down, or take out these opponents. Through the rising gales, she scans the area, still holding her breath and blinking away sleep. If she were said commander, where would she be?

World Shaking is deprived of his Trainer's guidance when observing his own possibilities, so he goes with the most likely sign of life: those moving boxes. It is his experience that humans deal with being under things much worse than other Ground-types do. So over he stamps, attempting to swat any offending bugs in his way...well, out of the way.

Once the attack clears, Adell throws his arms back out, seemingly no worse for the wear. Sure, the attack stung at his skin and there was a bit of ringing in his ears, but it was far less than he thought it would be.

But what he was less happy about was that smug kid bailing; not that it wasn't smart, but because he took a shot for him when it looked like he was in trouble. Okay, fine. The half-pint was on his own now. Everybody got one, and he used it up. He watched as he ordered his Gyarados to attack the leader with Hyper Beam, and he shook his head. He had to think fast. That kind of attack was going to draw a lot of hate from whatever that monstrous insect was, and judging by the shot it fired toward Ditto, that Gyarados might not last long while it had to rest.

He was quick to give battlefield orders, while ignoring the Signal Beam. It'd barely dent him anyway, considering he'd resist it heavily.

"Maverick! Disrupt their formation with Wing Attack! Beowulf, sweep them from the sky with Flamethrower!" He turned to face the giant boss bug, and then looked to Andy, his Blaziken. "Get ready, buddy. We'll take it together."

Badr stumbles as he tries to shake off the powder starting to settle on him - it's a disadvantage being such a huge pokemon sometimes.

"Ja'far, Badr - try to drive them off." He starts, looking at the debris, he spies several scattered fishing nets that look like they could be tugged into different positions if done just riiight... an idea forms. "Wait, drive them towards me."

The pair let out baffled squawks - and Gengar deliver a dope slap that passes right through the teen, he stares at them until they nod in agreement before he turns, sucking in air before he unleashed a sudden burst of electricity not unlike a charge beam towards the Moths, and immediately flies towards the dangling nets, turning to yank them down to impede and capture any that would follow him, while Ja'far tried to intimidate them to fleeing from him with a terrifying leer.
