Invasion: Start
The morning after the meteor shower, things start as they always do. Union’s gearing up for another day: people going to work, shops opening, kids heading to school, and foremen getting their crews to work on the last of the damage left by Kyurem’s rampage through the city. It’s just an ordinary day, with only a passing thought given to yesterday’s odd occurrences by anyone outside the scientific and psychic communities. There’s some very real theories floating around there, but there’s little real chance at anything solid coming from the discourse. At least, until reports start coming up Route 1 from the single port started by one Union entrepreneur two years ago. It’d grown quickly with Gigan help, seaborne trade flowing up the lone road, and now it was completely overrun.
Panicked sailors and land crew come streaming up the way, nursing hundreds and hundreds of Bug-type induced injuries. Beedrill stings, Spinarak bites, and photographs of several enormous members of a new species that’d yet to be recorded quickly circulate and prompt Council response. Whatever these things are, they’re clearly hostile and the risk of damage to the city itself seems likely given how quickly the port had been overwhelmed.
With the city still shaken by Kyurem’s attack, the Council wasted no time. The call to arms was put out and trainers hastily sent out to deal with the sudden intrusion. Anyone willing and able to fight was asked to head down the road as quickly as possible, with the intent of sorting this out and either diverting the tide or stopping the invasion cold. The road itself is deserted, abandoned wagons left in a hurry, and not a single wild Pokemon can be heard for miles. It’s almost like they were aware something big was coming, and even the more aggressive types clearly opted to clear out.
When it comes into view, the port itself seems to be in particularly bad shape. Smoke rises up into the horizon, and hundreds and hundreds of Bug types swarm all over the structures, chewing away at the wood and stone. But perhaps the most troublesome sight is the beings that are overseeing the attack. Several members of the new species, fifteen feet tall at minimum, twenty at the peak, direct the swarm in its efforts. And further out to sea, a singularly massive specimen, some forty feet tall, watches it all, hunched forward, dark eyes gleaming with interest as its minions go to work…

And yet, before too long, though, they realize something is amiss. Something is dulling their strikes...!
"Keh-keh-keh-keh!"
A strange cry echoes from the commander insect of this part of the horde. And moments later, a few things happen...
Far, far overhead, a branch of the swarm flits by - delicate creatures, a cloud of Beautifly, Vivillon and Butterfree. From their wings, powder begins to drift through the skies... Powder especially drifts onto Keith, Salamence, and Rapidash while an amalgam of Stun Spore and Sleep Powder target the others. The team of Michiru and Noivern fall right into the Stun Spore; Haruka and Rushing Wind find themselves in the cloud of Sleep Powder.
Simultaneously, Gardevoir may be knocked off its feet by a particularly... hefty Heracross. Well, honestly, it looks more like a sumo wrestler than it has any right to look. It wastes no time in lifting a claw and Brick Breaking right through the Reflect, shattering the psychic energy. This is followed by pounding its stomach.
Looks like these things are obnoxiously intelligent. Or at least, the commander is.
World Shaking, as he meanders around the port, will find it difficult to see much of anything with all the distractions, but there are a few potential possibilities. The door to the small lighthouse is closed tight and possibly hides a few victims. Not too far away, there is a much too large pile of collapsed boxes that seems to occasionally quiver, and closer to where the battle is raging, an abandoned beached sailboat lies tipped on its side.

World Shaking is deprived of his Trainer's guidance when observing his own possibilities, so he goes with the most likely sign of life: those moving boxes. It is his experience that humans deal with being under things much worse than other Ground-types do. So over he stamps, attempting to swat any offending bugs in his way...well, out of the way.
no subject
He tell's his frantic Poliwhirl that they could use a rain dance.
He's screwed out of his own abilities for now anyway and with luck all the rain would hinder all those bugs with wings. (Not to mention giving Rushing Wind's hurricane a little better accuracy.)

Rapidash snorts, wheeling around, trying to shake off the powder, and running after Rhyperior. She's about to flare up when Trainer's order resounds in her head. No...fire? And it's raining?? Why??
Michiru's fighting her own battles, in the meantime, as she grits her teeth against the powder and coaxes her Noivern into using Hurricane.

In the meanwhile, the two Hurricanes have cleared out enough of the swarm that Haruka will not need to look too hard for the leader. There comes a great screech of annoyance before the strange creature has descended among them. Haruka, Michiru, and their mounts are the major annoyance here: a quick Lock-on is shortly followed by several shots of homing Zap Cannon that chases them through the air.
Gardevoir's Moonblast strikes true, and the hefty Heracross digs its feet in as it slides back in the dirt, creating two twin furrows with the force of its momentum. Though it grunts in irritation, it responds immediately with a machine gun-like volley of Pin Missile, aiming towards its opponent with pinpoint accuracy.
As World Shaking approaches the boxes, the bugs will leave him alone for the most part, given that attempting to pierce his hide seems like an enormous pain. The shaking intensifies as he draws near... There's also an odd, sweet scent drifting through the air...
Persian, Sylveon, Staraptor, Houndoom (sorry for the late)
Her team, meanwhile, was running about the port, looking for stragglers to chase off after the two hurricane moves cleared the majority out.

And hurtling herself right at it with some Agility of her own. It can't counter what it can't react to in time, right?

Rapidash sniffs the air as it follows Rhyperior. This is strangely lulling.
Taking advantage of Poliwhirl's Rain Dance, Michiru aims a Hydro Pump at this new Pokemon. Then she braces herself as Noivern picks up on her thoughts and heads for land. It's going to hurt, but at least she doesn't plan on falling to the ground on top of getting fried.

At her approach, the closest bugs look up sharply and begin to click their pincers together.
Mega Haruka gets the jump on the unidentified bug! After shooting out the bolts of electricity, it has paused in place for a moment to recharge - a flying human was certainly not the opponent it expected. It freezes for just a split second as it assesses the situation. Long enough to be open to an attack!
And that attack, it seems, is a blast of water blindsiding it from below. The Hydro Pump strikes true and it goes spiraling through the air for a few moments before it regains its balance and strikes back with a Signal Beam. This one is aimed at Haruka as Michiru is already seconds away from getting properly zapped. This is shortly followed by a dull gleam that begins to shine from the cannon atop its back...
World Shaking and Rapidash may follow the oddly sweet scent to the middle of the shaking boxes. Will they begin to break through them?

Oh... yuck. Giant ant things!
Houndoom didn't even wait and used Fire Fang before Minako could make a call. She made a frustrated noise and waved in Staraptor.
"Aerial Ace!" Rico squawked an affirmation and dropped in with his attack!
rng has her avoiding confusion
"No you don't!" She doesn't know what that cannon might portend, but it can't be anything good. So as soon as she's got her own self reoriented after being blasted back by Signal Beam, she swipes an Air Slash at that cannon and then continues to try and close in on the bug. If she can just
stay in the airmake contact...World Shaking sees nothing amiss with the smell aside from the fact that it makes him sneeze. He knocks on a box - anybody in here? - and then begins to try opening it. With his drill, if necessary. But he'll use his hands first.

Gardevoir doesn't hesitate as she blasts Heracross with Psychic, combining it with the Future Sight from before. She's got other problems to worry about.
There's a loud screech as Noivern and Michiru get hit.
Thanks a lot, Lock-On.It feels like an age before the attack ends and another age before she manages to pull herself to her feet. And the first thing she does is send her sizzled Noivern back home and pull in Reuniclus, who takes a look at Trainer and then sends a Focus Blast at that thing in the sky.no subject
For a few moments, the Pokemon simply stares with a guilty expression. ...Then it sticks its paw in its mouth, pulls out a glob, and offers it to Rhyperior and Rapidash. This is totally gross, but maybe they can make use of this somehow against the swarm... Even as they stand in place, some of the buzzing insects overhead have sensed the presence of the sweet nectar. They begin to break ranks to swoop down and investigate.
Team Yuck Giant Ant Things will find, perhaps, that their hasty attacks were not well-advised. Though the Fire Fang removes the closest Durant and the Aerial Ace knocks another flying, there are still approximately 47 of these things, and they're all scuttling towards Minako and her crew. The closest few lunge forward with an Iron Head at Minako and her Pokemon; the ones in the rear begin to spit Sand Attack.
Team Gardevoir will find great success with the double psychic attack as the author forgot to address this last round and thus, the Heracross simply sat there doing absolutely nothing. Perhaps it was flexing. Regardless, it isn't long before the would-be sumo is laid flat on the ground, though if Gardevoir is observant, it may notice that the insect's armor had shone briefly with the strength of Endure... She may choose to return her focus to the main battle if she wishes.
The strange, mechanical insect swoops and dives with unpredictable acrobatic grace as the aerial attacks come flying its way. And while a few cutting blades from the Air Slash manage to clip it, the effect just isn't as strong as Haruka might hope it would be. It seems there's something unusual about its defenses that prevents it from being fully impacted.
The gleam enhances now, glowing a brilliant white...! And in just seconds, an enormous blast of something or other bursts from its cannon towards what it views as its main opponent, Haruka! ...Or, at least, that's what should have happened. At the last moment, it spots the Focus Blast coming from below and once again spins aside to dodge - consequently, the eruption spews in an arc across the sky! Instead of striking Haruka head-on, it potentially frosts over her lower legs instead before leaving a trail of ice stalagmites along the ground, blasting through a few boats and ending up at, well... Rapidash's butt.
The aftermath of the ice-type Techno Blast leaves it somewhat disoriented, at least, and it doesn't immediately strike again.

Up in the air, his Trainer also isn't too pleased. Some kind of defenses and then ice, huh? Not her day. She shakes her legs to be sure she can still move them and falls back for the moment, Uranus the Salamence coming to pick her up before diving down to go see how Michiru's doing.
"It wants to play tag," she informs her partner, ignoring the part where the leg she'd just gotten a cast taken off of is covered with a sheet of ice now. She can still stand on it. She'll deal. "Childish."
Not that she's asking for help double-teaming it or anything. But if it sees her coming she won't be able to get close again.

Her Persian dodged, and her Staraptor took to the air, leaving Houndoom and Sylveon to get hit with Iron Head. When the Sand Attack came in, all three of the team on the ground were hit, but their positioning kept it from hitting Minako.
Staraptor whipped up a Whirlwind at the group behind and Minako summoned an Iron Tail to whip across at the group in front of her.

Genesect, in the meantime, takes sufficient time to regroup as well. It briefly glances towards the scent as well, but fails to be sufficiently attracted; however, a significant number of its swarm has been diverted. It seems angered by this! Quite rightly so. You can't find any good help these days. Its annoyance is manifested as it vibrates rapidly in place to emit a Bug Buzz sweeping out towards the combatants.
The Whirlwind sends a few of the ants flying out into the ocean while Iron Tail... momentarily delays a few Durants before they continue to swarm. Down to about 44 now, but the odds still are remarkably poor. As the closest ones draw near, they begin to chow down on their enemies with Crunch.

Grimacing at the attack, Gardevoir doesn't spare Heracross a second glance (maybe the flexing wasn't very impressive) before hurrying back to Michiru's side, Heal Pulse at the ready. Michiru gives a quiet sigh of relief and offers her Pokemon a small smile before stepping forward, petals falling as she Mega evolves.
"Does it?" she says to Haruka as she holds out a hand. Her other ride got sizzled, sorry.
Reuniclus takes the Bug Buzz in stride and more importantly, dutifully ignores any and all flirtations. It simply aims another Focus Blast at the flying thing.

World Shaking picks up the pace, making full use of the (relative) speed that won him awards, prizes, and acclaim in his Rhyhorn days. He's just going to go as far inland as he can, following this horse, and figure Trainer will pick him up later. If he manages to draw these bugs away from Trainer and her friends, that is even better. This is one of those...it has a human word. Oh yes. A "plan". Now that he is a Rhyperior, his brain has developed to the point he can come up with these. Feels pretty good.
Accepting Michiru's hand, Haruka smiles and helps pull her onto Uranus. Thus loaded with not one but two giant sparkly thespians, the Salamence takes off, heading back for the target. It has to swoop to avoid Bug Buzz, so Haruka has to hold onto Michiru to keep them both balanced. How awful.
"It's got some kind of shield," she murmurs while they're close, watching the enemy. This was totally all just to have a strategy meeting before the last strike anyway, right?

The main target continues to be Displeased. With half of its troops having abandoned it, it seems to be keen on finishing this off quickly. The Focus Blast is simply tanked as it takes the hit head-on while maneuvering a few parts to refocus that cannon while Michiru and Haruka discuss. This time, the charging gleam is far from dull - and the sheer amount of crackling energy in the charge-up alone is already quite alarming.
no subject
"Uranus!" she snaps, and the Salamence drops, plummeting out of the sky to try and avoid that cannon. As it goes down, Haruka holds onto Michiru even more closely and zips up instead, propelling both herself and her partner into the sky.
"We've got one hit," she figures, but will leave which form that hit takes to Michiru. From where she's standing (floating, flying, hoping to not be disintegrated in midair, etc), she figures they can either double-team the thing with Pledges or Michiru can provide her cover while she zooms them both in for Earthquake. But she knows Michiru is a better judge of such things, so she'll let her partner decide. It wouldn't be fair to fly Michiru around without consulting her, either.
World Shaking is just going to keep running, drawing off the other bugs. He has missed running. This is fun. He should dig bears out of boxes more often.
Could do without the bugs, though.

To clear a path backwards and away, Houndoom, despite having been hit with the Sand Attack, still attempted a Fire Spin to make way.

"Together, then." The glow of the Water Pledge forms in her free hand - though she wastes no time in sending it towards the Pokemon. Their Flight and Water Pledges veer towards the target, gathering in speed and intensity to form a waterspout.
...The falling rose petals are really just a bonus.
no subject
Hyper Beam explodes outwards with all the force of... well, the formerly most powerful attack known in this world. The Dual Pledges meet the beam head-on, and a concussive wave splashes out in every direction!
As for the outcome...
".............."
For a moment, the bug hangs in mid-air with its back-cannon still smoking. And then....... absent the benefit of the Light Screen... hit with the full exhaustion that accompanied the use of its move... it wobbles in mid-air. Once. Twice. And then.......
But how did the others fare?
Though not directly involved in the combat, Minako might appreciate the fact that in addition to her Meteor Mash, the diameter of the blast just now from the other fight was large enough to send a good dozen of those Durants flying off the boat, though it splinters the deck beneath them as well. The Meteor Mash and Fire Spin are further deterrents and for a moment, the remaining Durant pause as they realize they're beginning to lose.
