Invasion: Start

The morning after the meteor shower, things start as they always do. Union’s gearing up for another day: people going to work, shops opening, kids heading to school, and foremen getting their crews to work on the last of the damage left by Kyurem’s rampage through the city. It’s just an ordinary day, with only a passing thought given to yesterday’s odd occurrences by anyone outside the scientific and psychic communities. There’s some very real theories floating around there, but there’s little real chance at anything solid coming from the discourse. At least, until reports start coming up Route 1 from the single port started by one Union entrepreneur two years ago. It’d grown quickly with Gigan help, seaborne trade flowing up the lone road, and now it was completely overrun.

Panicked sailors and land crew come streaming up the way, nursing hundreds and hundreds of Bug-type induced injuries. Beedrill stings, Spinarak bites, and photographs of several enormous members of a new species that’d yet to be recorded quickly circulate and prompt Council response. Whatever these things are, they’re clearly hostile and the risk of damage to the city itself seems likely given how quickly the port had been overwhelmed.

With the city still shaken by Kyurem’s attack, the Council wasted no time. The call to arms was put out and trainers hastily sent out to deal with the sudden intrusion. Anyone willing and able to fight was asked to head down the road as quickly as possible, with the intent of sorting this out and either diverting the tide or stopping the invasion cold. The road itself is deserted, abandoned wagons left in a hurry, and not a single wild Pokemon can be heard for miles. It’s almost like they were aware something big was coming, and even the more aggressive types clearly opted to clear out.

When it comes into view, the port itself seems to be in particularly bad shape. Smoke rises up into the horizon, and hundreds and hundreds of Bug types swarm all over the structures, chewing away at the wood and stone. But perhaps the most troublesome sight is the beings that are overseeing the attack. Several members of the new species, fifteen feet tall at minimum, twenty at the peak, direct the swarm in its efforts. And further out to sea, a singularly massive specimen, some forty feet tall, watches it all, hunched forward, dark eyes gleaming with interest as its minions go to work…

Adell dead-eyed the so called "Kaiser" when he sees the Poke Ball come out. He sure didn't sound like he came from Gigas, which might be the only way such a abominable tool would be remotely forgivable. The glare would be withering to most, but no doubt it'd have little effect on one with an ego like his.

But then the buzzing of the insects grew loud and they were upon the team in nearly an instant. Never before had he seen so many Pokemon fly in such perfect formation or in unison; even Beedrill swarms lacked this level of coordination. And it was unsettling, to say the least.

"So much for diplomacy," Adell growled. The incoming Sonic Boom was huge, and his conscience worried about this stupid kid with a Poke Ball getting thrashed by it. He was just a child, after all. Without hesitation, Adell leapt in front of the Kaiser to shield him from the Sonic Boom, crossing his arms in front of him and Enduring whatever damage came his way.

The Pokémon Kaiser doesn't falter (and it's not because his knees just locked in place, that would be absurd). And why should he? He even has this fool willing to sacrifice itself for him of its own accord! This "reveal his true power" plan is going quite nicely.

Of course, relying on an idiot like this would be just as foolhardy as leaping in front of that blast himself.

"Teleport," he ordered the Ralts with a calm smile, vanishing and hoping to appear again out of range. Gyarados, meanwhile, takes to the sky itself, also under orders. It hopes to gain the advantage of height on their attackers.

The Pokémon Kaiser continues to have a Plan.

"Looks like we're not talking our way out of this!" Rose yells. She jumps, as the Sonic Boom comes in, and then she shoots forward in the air. She vanishes in a burst of shadowy strands of light. Then, she reappears in the midst of some of the Bug-types. Her knives slash out in a flurry, trying to slash through several of them in a blink.

"Try to thin their ranks!" she yells. "We need to stop 'em here!"

She keeps an eye on the Kaiser. Her Ditto, though, looks straight at the Pokemon commanding them. The one with the huge cannon on its back. The Ditto narrows its eyes, focuses, and then...

...one identical to the commander appears!

This was quickly turning unamusing, as Arachne whispers a few quick orders to her pokemon allies. Almost as soon as the Kaiser vanishes, the Abra also uses teleport, taking itself, Arachne and the Litwick to the top of one of the nearby structures.

The Gabite is left below, though he spreads his arms out straight and runs in a semi-circle, though it becomes evident that he's summoning up a sandstorm.

A willing sacrifice has stepped up for the sake of the Pokémon Kaiser's glory! Better and better.

"Hyper Beam," he orders his Gyarados, which obliges, aiming at the alien while it's busy with Ditto. Ralts grabs onto its liege and uses Double Team to try and avoid the Signal Beam.

Some might consider this a rash plan, given the recharge period. But the Kaiser has no intentions of going easy in his public debut.

Once the attack clears, Adell throws his arms back out, seemingly no worse for the wear. Sure, the attack stung at his skin and there was a bit of ringing in his ears, but it was far less than he thought it would be.

But what he was less happy about was that smug kid bailing; not that it wasn't smart, but because he took a shot for him when it looked like he was in trouble. Okay, fine. The half-pint was on his own now. Everybody got one, and he used it up. He watched as he ordered his Gyarados to attack the leader with Hyper Beam, and he shook his head. He had to think fast. That kind of attack was going to draw a lot of hate from whatever that monstrous insect was, and judging by the shot it fired toward Ditto, that Gyarados might not last long while it had to rest.

He was quick to give battlefield orders, while ignoring the Signal Beam. It'd barely dent him anyway, considering he'd resist it heavily.

"Maverick! Disrupt their formation with Wing Attack! Beowulf, sweep them from the sky with Flamethrower!" He turned to face the giant boss bug, and then looked to Andy, his Blaziken. "Get ready, buddy. We'll take it together."

[ooc: Good to know!]

The fire-aspected blast slams into the Ditto. He yells, the fire smashing into him, and throws him back. Rose's head whips in his direction and she shouts, wordlessly; her Ditto slams into the ground, and the transformation fades. The Ditto is out cold.

"Shit!" Rose yells. She spins, to look at the commander, and then at her Blaziken. "Efreet! Let's go, buddy!"

Her Blaziken nods. They run; Rose darts to the left, while her Blaziken runs to the side. They sprint, leaving trails of flame and shadow behind them, before they come at the commander from two sides -- and leap. The Blaziken does a fiery kick, while Rose launches out with both blades, slashing. Long, inky darkness is left in her wake.

Where they strike, they leave a red-and-black X in their wake. Like Chrono Trigger ahem.

The Gabite stops what it's doing to suddenly bury itself underground using dig, though it's a question of whether it's fast enough to dodge getting hit by the beam.

Elsewhere in her new position, and being a bug type, but considerably underleveled for this mess, the signal beam isn't as easily dodged by Arachne, though her Litwick quickly casts haze around their position, trying to mitigate some of the effects of it.

Tch. Gyarados isn't strong enough to transcend typing, then. A failed experiment. (That is how he will consider this in the future. In fact, that was totally always the Kaiser's plan! Yes!)

He's quite happy to let the rest of the group take the brunt of the assault while Gyarados rests, though, Ralts standing in front of him (brandishing his tiny standard flag) as a Nasty Plot dawns on him from behind his mask. Everyone here is only useful as cannon fodder. Perhaps he shall have to take to the battlefield himself! For the finishing blow!

Those Ledian were daring, that was for sure. It really wasn't wise to get close to Adell in combat, though to the Pokemon's credit, its first three punches landed, staggering Adell briefly. However, before the fourth blow could land, Beowulf decided he had enough of Ledian attempting to beat down its partner.

The Houndoom raced toward the Ledian, and made a flying tackle for it, going ruthlessly for Crunching it between its sharp fangs. Beowulf was a lot of things... and fiercely loyal to his pack was one of them.

His path cleared, Adell shook off being struck a few times and refocused his mind on his target. The big guy needed to go down, and he needed to go down now. As he guessed, Fire looked extremely effective... so Adell took off running, wreathed himself in flame coupled with a burst of Speed, and barreled into the unknown massive Pokemon with Flame Charge.

The Shadow Claw hits the Blaziken, knocking him backward -- though Efreet's crossed his arms, to block some of the damage. He squawks, before throwing out a hand. Flame swirls off the feathered hand, then shoots towards the commander!

Rose, in the meantime, has Ledians on her. She spins around; the first of them manages a punch in her side, but she jumps -- with a 'oof!' after being hit -- and cartwheels over another. She comes down, stabbing her Dark-aspected dagger down at one, before she throws a second dagger at another.

To fend off those pesky ledian, Litwick uses inferno, which seem to scare them off. The shockwaves practically send Arachne falling off the side of the platform she was on, though she manages to cling to it with a glare for the invader.

"You have got to be kidding me!"

... And then Gabite makes it's return with dig, hopefully striking the Genesect.

Adell's sudden stop against the Protect wall was pointedly unpleasant, his shoulder slamming into that field and fire erupting from the impact to no avail. Well, that suited him just fine. Even if his first attack was a No Sell, his second sure wasn't going to be!

...Well, until the Genesect jumped into the air. That wasn't going to end well. Adell's eyes widened... he was at point blank for what was coming and he didn't have anywhere he could go to avoid being hurt by the shock. All he could do was brace for impact....

Until the shrill call of a familiar bird rung in his ears. He looked up, only to be grabbed by the shoulders by Maverick, using a Quick Attack. The Pidgeot's flight speed was a sight to behold, and the bird snagged Adell from danger, pulling him up and away from the Giga Impact in the nick of time.

"Thanks, Mav. You can be my partner any time."

The Pokémon Kaiser has no such loyal partner - well, he has a Venipede, which...jumps up onto his leg and tugs, urging him to run away. "Don't distract me!" he snaps, which of course is when Giga Impact hits, knocking him off his feet to land in a rather indecorous sprawl of Mage robes and pain.

Gyarados, wishing to save its master any further embarrassment, floats down to scoop him up. From his new perch, the mighty ruler seethes. Now he's angry. Now he's hurting. Now all bets are off.

His hair now completely fluffed up with evil questionable Science bottled power, the Kaiser lashes out against the monster with Payback. "You see that?" he crows. "Dare to strike me, and I become more powerf--"

Then he has to stop and cough. The all-powerful Pokémon Kaiser bruised a few ribs. Yelling hurts.

The piercing, awful shriek that giant bug managed rang in Adell's ears, threatening to give him a splitting headache. Never was he more thankful to be carried around by Maverick; though the bird was disoriented briefly by the sonic blast, it kept flying.

"Mav," the Earthkin looked up to his Pidgeot partner. "Get ready to drop me on that bastard like a bomb. I'll take care of the rest." Adell looked down to his Blaziken, who stared up at him, almost awaiting orders. The Calderan smiled, nodded, and gave Andy a thumbs up. Now was the time. A pincer attack.

Maverick's broad wings flapped strongly as it turned toward Genesect. Then, with practiced daring, the Pidgeot closed up its wings and dove like a bomber above the insect. Its talons loosened their grip on Adell's shoulders, and he dropped rapidly feet first, his legs wreathing in flame. Meanwhile, Andy rushed in, through the Bug Buzz, tanking it and pushing through despite the pain.

The two aimed to impact at the same time: Adell from above with Soaring Fire and Andy from below with Blaze Kick.

Nothing?

The Kaiser is still trying to wrap his brain around the idea of himself - HIMSELF! - being ineffectual when the Screech sends Gyarados flailing through the air and he finds himself having to hang on with String Shot to keep from falling. "Idiot!" he howls over the din, despite his own headache. "Can't you do anyth---"

And here comes the Bug Buzz. The Kaiser cuts the String Shot and drops to the ground, abandoning the Gyarados to get hit with the blast. Ralts is waiting for him on the ground, hurrying to see if he's all right but keeping its distance. Venipede is not so smart and gets a shoe to the midsection for its troubles.

"How dare you," he seethes, looking up with all the ferocious majesty a despot of his stature and capabilities has at their command (none). He can turn this around, though! He can! As soon as his ears stop ringing!

Any minute now!

The Gabite rushes forward, even after getting struck by the screech and the bug buzz, using dual chop while it is still in close proximity to the enemy...

Litwick once again reacts to the stat-reducing offenses with a hopefully well-timed Haze that seeps around the vicinity. Arachne meanwhile grits her teeth and pulls herself back up onto the platform she had been holding on to. In the midst of this mess she hadn't been keeping an eye on the little Kaiser. Just barely she catches sight of him on the ground. Good. Not dead at least. Certainly still loud enough.

Well, after impacting on the Genesect itself, there's not really much of anywhere to go to escape such an attack, especially with Maverick still pulling up and away. All Adell could really do was take it on the chest at this range.

And damn did it hurt. It was obvious this thing was extremely strong to begin with, but its roaring cry and sheer anger was enough to tear at him, sap his strength, and cloud his mind with its unintelligible ravings. The Enlightened staggered back, and felt like he could barely stand through that... and though the Genesect fell to its knees, it still... wasn't... stopping.

Andy wasn't fairing any better nearby, having suffered through a potent attack already. And Beowulf couldn't get close enough to attack without putting itself at serious risk.

The Calderan staggered forward toward the Genesect, barely able to push through all the Outrage and anger. Standing fast in front of the creature, he looked it right in the eye.

"Hey. You're done. Cut it out."

If it doesn't stop Outraging or otherwise tries anything aggressive, it'll earn itself a Mega Kick. Adell didn't want to hurt it more than need be, and using a non-Fire typed attack might be a way to do it... if necessary. He hoped it would just stop if given the chance.

"Nnh!"

The final, mighty blow hits. Rose yelps as she gets thrown backward -- and then she hits the ground. She doesn't stop; she skids across the ground, beaten but not broken, and her eyes turn towards Adell. She shakes her head, before she rushes in. She shoots along Adell's side as she runs.

Then, she leaps. Several knives fly -- she throws them ahead of her -- and she comes down with a shadowy, Dark-type short sword. She swings it down, trying to stab it at the Genesect.

"Psychic!"

The Pokémon Kaiser manages to bark this order to his Ralts without collapsing to his knees the way he wants to. He's been tossed around and battered entirely too much for his liking, and his mask is beginning to slide down his face in what in a lesser human might be mistaken for a nervous, pained sweat.

He fumbles to adjust it as Ralts opens fire. This will do it, right? This will ensure he trounces the beast. And the glory...as it should...will go to him.

Any other outcome is unthinkable.
