[ Haruka's forehead burns too, Michiru's hand warm against hers. Carrying her partner with her on a mighty gust of wind, she leaps off Uranus's back; the Salamence wheels to help try and catch the bystanders.

Haruka and Michiru, on the other hand, burst through the branches of the tree, around the falling rubble, on a dead-end course towards Kyurem. The air around them glitters. Rose petals swirl in eddies along the breeze. Haruka grips her Fairy-type sword tight in her hand.

And although the wind whips at their brand-new outfits, Haruka doesn't feel it. She has eyes only for Kyurem, and sense only for Michiru at her side.

This ends before any more innocents get involved. ]

[Mami grits her teeth, as the blast from the dragon slams into her bodily -- and does precious little, being a Fairy-type for the moment. (Unless Tex is reading the type chart wrong. Then she's hurt. Eheheheh.)]

[But both her Zangoose and her Drifblim are sent flying back. Both are injured. Gretchen the Drifblim glowers -- and uses Stockpile again. She stays put.]

[Mami, for her part, glances at Haruka and Michiru -- and winks.] Quite dashing!

[With a wave of her hand, she makes a dozen percussion lock rifles appear behind her. With a wink, they fire at once, sending a battery of shots down for Kyurem.]

[While Mami's immunity might work against normal Pokemon, a god was quite a different story. She resisted it, to be sure, but for the first time in her life Mami felt the pain of getting struck by a powerful Dragon attack.

It hurt. A lot.

The barrage of shots from Mami's rifles slam into Kyurem and it snarls with rage.

The combination of plants and Psychic energy stop the tower, although three people are ejected from it with the force of the catch and go flying toward the team, screaming in abject terror. The tower itself is heavy, maintaining a hold on it will be difficult indeed but there are still many more inside.

And, unfortunately, Kyurem has set its sights on something else - the Forge, its embers glowing hot in the night sky. Instead of turning to attack the team, it whirls around and swinging it's massive tail, the dragon-god strikes at it - the blow in which could both gut the forge and bring down the whole tower if permitted to strike full force.]

[ Shoot. There's no time to stop that tail from descending, and Haruka doesn't have any Defensive moves - but she does have a sword enhanced with the Fairy-type that can strike from long distances. So she swings the blade in front of her, hoping the resulting arcs of pure Fairy energy will both get Kyurem's attention and, with Michiru's support, knock that tail off-course.

Uranus, meanwhile, zooms up to the fallen chunk of tower and breaks a window with her (rather hard) head. She bellows into it, beating her wings. Everybody out! She'll ferry down as many humans as she can!! ]

[Michiru leans forward, instinctively priming a new attack and releasing a Dazzling Gleam along with Haruka's attack. Rapidash down on the ground manages to only gape at her Trainer in the air for a little bit, and then uses Inferno on Kyurem.

Gardevoir and Reuniclus are locked in place, still trying to hold up the building, though Gardevoir has started looking wildly around for somewhere safe for them to set it onto. Meanwhile, Noivern swoops in, making for the three falling humans and grabbing two of them with her claws. The third gets snagged (bitten) by the intrepid Vaporeon on Noivern's back.]

[Honoka followed Haruka and Michiru's lead, hopping off of Salamence and sending Ariera and Ovumia, her Tropius and Blissey, to help with the civilians. Ari could help get people out of the tower, and Blissey could help to heal anyone injured in the process (or by wayward Vaporeons).]

[As for Honoka herself, she's going to watch with horror and a lot of anger as that tail aims for the Forge. The biggest point of Calderan livelihood in the city of Union. Effectively, her reminder of home away from it. She aims herself a Twister to hopefully aid Haruka and Michiru's attempts to throw Kyurem's tail off-course.]

[Gretchen the Drifblim drops down -- she falls in with the other Pokemon, hovering near the tower. Her gas bag body expands -- and she waits. She'll provide a hot air balloon ride for those waiting.]

[Mami isn't used to being hurt by a Dragon-type. It slams her backward; she hits the ground, rolls, and then comes to a stop. Her heel hits the surface -- and she looks up and scowls. Then, she throws a hand up.]

[Fairy-type ribbons form, criss-crossing to make a wider section, and then try to wrap around the tail and squeeze -- and slow it down while trying to crush it.]

[Uranus is able to ferry several humans, but there are easily twenty more trapped in the tower suspended in midair. Noivern and Vaporeon manage to catch the falling humans and get them down gently, although they're definitely looking haggard to say the least.

The combination of the ribbons, Twister, Inferno, and Dazzling gleam do manage to help. The ribbons wrapping around the tail forestall the attack for mere seconds before they snap and it descends on the forge. However, the combined might of the attacks do lessen the force. One of the walls is instantly caved in and several bodies go flying like ragdolls from the might of the strike, but the tower stands. Seeing that it cannot ignore this team, Kyurem turns and unleashes a massive Blizzard at the assembled group, which is followed up with a huge Dragon Pulse, the two attacks combining into a powerful, area engulfing strike.

[Pamela uses her plant manipulation powers to lower the chunk of tower to the ground at a pace that's comparable to a quick elevator. Something that won't harm the people inside, because she wants them to have the chance to escape.

Then it's time for the counter-attack. She grits her teeth through the potent combination that hits them and it's all she can do to hold on to her Dragonite. Marigold the Blaziken is the first of Pamela's pokemon to recover and follow up with a Blaze Kick.]

[ Uranus lands as best she can, huddling against the cold wind and being careful not to displace her precious cargo. World Shaking the Rhyperior is even unhappier about the Blizzard raging, but struggles through it towards that descending tower. Should it make it to the ground safely, he'll start drilling through another window to give the people trapped inside a second exit. Trainer wanted to get the people out of this rock. He will help.

Trainer herself, however, is struck by that attack and goes sprawling through the sky. She flips head over miniskirt over stylish heeled boots, but on instinct she's grabbing for Michiru and holding her partner close to keep the other woman from falling completely out of the air. When Haruka finally rights herself, she's shivering, breathing heavily, and narrowly missing careening into a building, with Michiru held practically in an embrace in front of herself. She can't use her sword like this.

Her eyes search her partner's expression, and then she shifts the other woman in her hold so that Michiru is pointing back towards the dragon. Ice is Haruka's weakness. This one's on you. ]

[holding on through the attack, Mega Gardevoir and Reuniclus breathe a sigh of relief when they finally lower the building to the ground. Reuniclus shivers, and then bobs on over to help the humans escape. Noivern is grounded, weighed down by her passengers and the Ice and the Dragon attacks, though she's got an active Vaporeon checking on her and the humans.

Mega Gardevoir seems more worried about Trainer than about the other humans, and hits Kyurem with another Moonblast.

Michiru takes a breath. Cold. Falling? No, Haruka's right there. No control up here, but who else would she trust? And now there's Kyurem, dead center. Arms out, glassy surface of her mirror turned towards the dragon. There's an infinite moment, caught somewhere between one breath and the next.

Her eyes glow as she uses Mirror Move and gives a wordless shout. Dragon Pulse right back at you, Kyurem.]

[The Drifblim reaches down with its ribbon-like arms, and starts trying to pull people from the window. COME TO SAFETY, HUMANS.]

[The blizzard sends Mami flying back; the Dragon Pulse quite hurts. She flies backward, and then she hits the ground again. She shivers, wincing. That hurt. She'll need to heal herself soon.]

[She produces two large cannons to either side of her. Mami chops a hand down. Two massive Normal-type shots fire.]

[Honoka was tossed like a ragdoll by the attacks, landing roughly and tumbling before she managed to right herself. It hurt, but she wasn't about to fall now. They'd lessened the blow to the Forge, but more than the damage inflicted on herself from the attacks she found she was never going to wipe the image of the people being thrown from it from her mind. She'd try to convince herself they did as best they could, but what did that even mean in the face of the casualties? Ariera and Ovumia were still helping with those in the tower, but what did that really do?]

[Negi still right with her, she gets to her feet and watches Michiru ricochet Dragon Pulse back at Kyurem, leaving her to handle the offense for a moment while she raises her own ability with Dragon Dance.]

[The combined efforts of the team manage to extricate the people with minimal harm, giving them a chance to flee the scene in terror, some dragging wounded and unconscious with them. Kyurem's eyes blaze as it takes the attacks, blood running freely from many wounds but the flames of battle and bloodlust not for a moment diminishing in its eyes. Bringing itself to full form, it roars mightily, its aura of terror dramatically amping up in power. The fleeing humans from the broken tower are frozen in place, the fear too powerful for them to resist as energy gathers in its mouth and it unleashes a Hyper Beam, aiming to obliterate all of the people the team had just saved in one unrelenting blast.]

[ - and this is why Haruka prefers short battles striking at the enemy's weak points. ] RUN!

[ The uncharacteristic scream from her snaps World Shaking to attention; he's out of blast range, but he knows that word. That is Trainer's favorite word.

So he runs. At Kyurem. Using Stone Edge with all his might.

Uranus is also spurred to action, taking flight long enough to use Protect and shield as many humans as possible with her body (Passion has since dismounted). Trainer is counting on them, since she's all the way up there! They can do this for Trainer! ]

[Mega Gardevoir senses Trainer's uncharacteristic feeling of helplessness, immediately turns, and sets up a Light Screen around the other humans. Reuniclus follows suit with a Light Screen of its own, moving over to float next to Uranus the Salamence. Vaporeon barks her own defiance, standing in front of her downed Noivern friend and those humans they had worked really hard to save!!

Michiru can't look away, even if she can't trust herself to speak.]

No!

[Mami doesn't glow. Quite the opposite; the area around her becomes dark. There are crackles of static at the edges, as forks and tongues of darkness bleed out around Mami and draw away from it. Eerie runes float in the head over her, spelling out something that reads -- vaguely -- like "CANDELORO."]

[In the center, Mami looks different. Her eyes are still gold, but she has a long teal dress on -- and shorn, ripped pieces of white and pink fabric hang away, like a technicolor hell. Her hair has strands of pink through it. The cannons behind her shift -- they become more rusted and decayed. Her eyes narrow and she shouts.]

Witch's Barrier!

[A shield of darkness, crackling with static, erupts in front of her -- and between Kyurem and the people they just saved.]

[The Hyper Beam strikes with an enormous crash, the deafening sound somehow surpassed by the final wails of Union citizens. The wails are soon surpassed by Kyurem's roar of rage as World Shaking slams into it, which it angrily bats and sends flying toward a tower where it creates a massive hole - thankfully not with enough force to upset the structure itself.

When the dust clears, the barriers are shattered and the fainted Pokemon of the team that stood in the way. The citizens are sitting in a huddled mass, sobbing and weeping. Four charred stains that were once people blacken the grass, but everyone else is otherwise uninjured.]

[Seeing this kind of death and destruction up close is horrifying. Aside from the horror she feels at the sight, and the fear for her own life, Pamela feels anger and a renewed desire to win this fight for the sake of the citizens of Union. Not kill, but she has every intention of showing this god that attacking Union won't go without consequences - even deities are not exempt.

Athyrium the Metagross uses Iron Defense in preparation for the next brutal assault. Meanwhile, Daffodil the Lucario can tell how upset her trainer is and attacks Kyurem with Close Combat.]

[ ...Gggh. Haruka chokes on a breath, then holds it. This is the might of the gods. This is what they were trying to prevent. This is what the world succumbed to once before. But even if they can't save everyone...if they don't turn away from reality, but face it, and act without regret, then...

When she exhales, the fear on her face is gone.

Haruka's hand, when she reaches for Michiru's, is clammy within her glove, but her grip is firm. The wind picks up around her, swirling, inviting other attacks to join it as it forms a tornado around the two floating Mega-Evolved Enlightened - a Flight Pledge, if you would. They couldn't save everyone. That can't be helped, and they'll shoulder that sin. But they can drive the god off from the survivors, and if they fail, well...

She smiles at Michiru, an invitation: she won't leave you alone, she won't do this alone. ] ...I hear Hell's lovely this time of year.

[Mega Gardevoir can barely process the carnage, but immediately attacks with Moonblast when Trainer nudges her mentally.

Michiru's gaze slides away from the huddled group of humans and her Pokemon and meets her partner's. And here's a smile.]

Are you asking me out on a date? [the tease in her voice is at odds with how tightly she's holding onto Haruka's hand.

A column of water forms behind her. And as the Water Pledge merges with Haruka's Flight Pledge, a waterspout forms, tearing up the ground as it heads straight towards Kyurem.

A flurry of rose petals drift down in its wake, as the team gets a boost to their defenses.]

[It was almost like she'd blacked out for a moment from the rage and the distress and the overwhelming desire to run at Kyurem head-on. She knew better, thankfully, but the idea was definitely still there. Her eyes lingered on the scorch marks in the grass for only a moment, her Gardevoir Negi snapping her back to attention by joining Michiru's with another Moonblast.]

[She watched Haruka and Michiru's attacks swirl together before finding it a touch ironic that she threw in her own Hyper Voice. Take a taste of your own medicine, Kyurem.]

[The fear gets banished to the same place it always does for Mami: the back of her mind, to come out in shakes and sobs when she's alone. The deaths of the people... her eyes widen, and she's terrified and enraged, but she forces it down. She looks at Kyurem angrily, floating off the ground. Orbs of crackling static float in front of her.]

[She throws a hand out in front of her. Shadowy cannons form; a dozen of them in total, all floating behind her, appearing like tears in reality itself. Mami's voice is cold, somehow, when she shouts:]

Tiro Cannonade!

[Each cannon fires, raining down fire, fury, and darkness towards Kyurem. Gertrud the Cradily, which has used Stockipile twice, arches her neck back -- and then Spits Up a gout of vile, caustic fluid for Kyurem.]

[The onslaught of attacks strike Kyurem dead on, and it roars in pain and rage, and also, perhaps, a bit of fear. This is no longer proving to be worthwhile. Flaring out its wings, it takes to the sky, launching a parting blizzard as it flies away.

[Pamela lets out a shivering sigh of relief when Kyurem departs the scene. That was rough and terrifying, and they have deceased to pay their respects to, but at least it's over now. Her Dragonite, Morning Glory, finally sees fit to land, although Pamela still clings to her for the time being. This time out of sorrow for the dead. But there is a pat reassuring her, since Morning Glory looks just as sad as her trainer upon looking at the victims.]

You did well, sweetheart. Everyone here gave it their all.
