Event - Confrontation with the Enhanced

With the revelation of the presence of the Enhanced, Union was able to quickly mobilize. As the strange conditions continued to worsen, the Trainers of Union once again set out to bring order to the chaos.

This time however, they do not walk entirely alone. A small, dedicated team remains behind in Union, sorting through the dossiers and information that Crystal and Rory have collected. Connected to those in the field via Warp Band network, hopefully they can identify the Enhanced and find a way to calm them before a tragedy occurs.

[OOC: There will be a thread for each active team based on the sign-ups. Any areas that did not have any sign-ups will not be present and will be addressed later. As per our usual standards, moderators and NPC helpers will progress the log at least once every 24 hours. The Union log will work somewhat differently from the battle logs in that the participants will be collecting information concerning the Enhanced; when enough information has been accumulated, they will be asked to tag into the battle threads to provide guidance and support to those out in the field.

Characters participating in the Union log will function as support staff for this event. They will have their own log interacting with Rory and Crystal and as characters in other logs encounter the Enhanced, they can use the observations made to try to find out more about the Enhanced in the field and help the people in the field determine an appropriate situation. Because of this, players in the Union thread may threadjack any ongoing log to relay information as needed.

The outcome of this event will depend very much on player decisions and the ability of the characters to respond to the threats at hand, so we would highly encourage you all to tag as regularly as possible. Thanks!]

Jayce thanked the officer for his cooperation rather curtly, then walked on into the tunnel.

"Perhaps. We should make certain that it is them. If it is, they can give us directions. If not...well, then we should be facing what we came here to face."

With that, he began to walk in the direction of the sounds.

Yukiko offered the officer a polite smile of her own and moved to stay near Chie and the big man who's name she didn't know. The sounds were...less...than pleasant, that was for certain, and she had no idea what to think about them. Unconsciously reaching down, she ran a hand along Cassandra's horn.

"I sure hope so..."

Umi nodded at the officer. Honestly, the fact they were given a chance to do this at all was something she hadn't really expected to begin with. Having a full day to try and stop this was an opportunity they shouldn't waste.

She remained on her guard as she followed close behind.

Yu acknowledged the officer with his own nod, not caring how he felt about them. Hopefully one day is all that they will need to help this person out. He kept quiet for now as he followed the group, his mind already on full alert if the noise they were hearing wasn't friendly. Izanagi chirped his worry to his friend, who gave him a small pat in return.

Savior please say they were on their side today.

The clank of heavy footfalls grows louder as the team emerges into a large tunnel. A woman in full metal armor is striding restlessly. She appears to be speaking with an old, well-worn cloth doll. She isn't carrying any weapons openly but something - perhaps a staff, it is hard to tell - is strapped to her back and covered in cloth.

"Yes, Sarah, I hear them too. It appears we are cornered. If it comes to it, I will give my life to secure your escape."

She pauses for a moment, as if listening for a response.

"No, Sarah, it is only right. You can yet do some good. My life is meaningless in comparison. Now hush, run and don't look back. I will hold them off."

The woman then turns to the team.

"Hold, villains! You will pass no further!"

"Villains? Really?" Jayce lowered his Mercury Hammer, ready to transform it at a moment's notice. "You shouldn't level accusations against people you don't even know. Why don't you introduce yourself first?"

Hey, whoa, it's okay!

[Chie holds up her hands, shaking her head.]

We're here to help. We don't want to fight you.

Yukiko took a step back, already reaching up for her Warp Band controls, but not calling any Pokemon just yet. Not if it could be avoided.

"Chie's right. We're not here to fight...just to talk. Please...let us help you."

Umi too prepares to call forth her next Pokémon, but does nothing yet. No need to fight unless there's no other choice.

"Right. None of us want to fight."

Yu nodded as well but Izanagi and Amaterasu stayed behind him, neither one looking like they were going for a battle. If anything, the Eevee still had his sunglasses on so there was definitely something to try and lower the tension.

"That's right." he added with the group overall theme. "Could you tell us your name?"

The woman glances over the party with a bit of curiosity before her eyes come to a stop on Jayce and his Mercury Hammer.

"You claim no villainy and yet bring such a weapon before me? I am no fool."

Her eyes glow with psychic energy and the item strapped to her back begins to shake before it flies out and lands neatly in her hands. It appears to be a hilt - a rather large hilt - to a sword.

"I am Lyn Yates. The Sword of Devastation."

Crackling energy coalesces around the hilt and an enormous blade of steel immediately juts out from it. It continues to grow until it's easily half again the size of the woman wielding it, although it appears almost to be an extension of her own body, as easily as she holds it. Bringing it to rest on her shoulder, she gives a cocky, battle-ready grin.

"I won't be fooled again! If you want her, you'll have to take her! Draw steel if you dare, there is nothing in this world my Gigant Blade cannot cut! Come at full strength... if you dare."

While she isn't moving to attack immediately, she definitely seems ready for it.

[Chie nudges Jayce with her elbow.]

Put that thing down, sheesh!

[And then, addressing Lyn:]

Take who? We're not trying to kidnap anyone here. We just want to keep everyone safe. Is your friend Sarah in trouble? We can help you both.

Jayce sighed. He set the Mercury Hammer against the wall and crossed his arms.

"The hammer is more of a precautionary measure. In all sincerity, if I can avoid a fight, I will. Violence is always my last resort.

"Now, I ask that you do the same as I just did. It's not fair for only one of us to be armed."

Yukiko remains steadfast, but steps out from behind Jayce, palms up and open.

"See. We're not villains we come in peace. We're on your side. Heroes, who help those in need."

If the woman was going to act the knight, Yukiko figures she had best play along. Yukiko may however not be the best actress for the role of a fearless adventurer, but she figures she can pass. And she's read plenty of fantasy stories to bullshit.

"We came because we heard there was a valiant woman in need of assistance."

Sadly that wasn't the case with Yu. He was still awkward with people but not as much due to the interaction. He agreed with Yukiko but only Izanagi was brave enough to stand in front of him, however instead of taking a defensive stance he sat flat on his butt and wagged his tail. Now you decide to be weird?

"We're here to help you, not harm. Will you let us?"

[ The "heroes" have attracted the attention of someone or something, and while it doesn't reveal itself, they might catch the glimpse of something nondescript out of the corner of their eye. However, if they try to look, they will find nothing is there. Strange. ]

Umi just nods, following suit. There really isn't a whole lot she can add.

"We just want to help. Please, tell us what's going on, and we'll try to do what we can to aid you."

She relaxed a bit, hoping to make herself look less threatening, if the two chittering electric rodents pointing and laughing at the Eevee that just sat down didn't make it obvious that there's not much interest in a fight there.

The woman regards the group with a bit of suspicion. She cocks her ear back, as if listening to something although there is clearly nobody behind her, before nodding once. The blade shrinks down to the size of a more standard greatsword, which she thrusts into the ground.

"My companion is kinder than I, and continues to refuse to flee when ordered. Very well. I shall hear you."

Jayce took a deep breath.

"All right. My name is Jayce. I'm an engineer from the city of Union."

Might as well start with introductions.

I'm Chie Satonaka. I'm a member of the Swords of the Savior. We help protect people.

[Introductions sound good.]

"My name is Yukiko Amagi," she smiles and bows, "And I'm a health-care specialist."

Yukiko...that's not exactly a job for an adventurer or whatever you're pretending to be.

24 hour advancement

"I would welcome citizens of Union - if you speak truth. I know where I am, and Caldera has deemed us the enemy. What proof do you offer of your claims?"

"Allow me to demonstrate something." Jayce lifted his left arm, containing his Warp Band, and activated it. With a flash of light, a Castform appeared.

"We don't capture Pokémon and keep them in balls like our ancestors did hundreds of years ago. We work with them and call upon them to aid us when we need their help, and when they're not needed, they have a habitat in which they can stay. This is technology that was developed by Union, with no outside help."

There's a bit of hesitance, but Umi speaks up.

"My name is Umi Sonoda. Caldera is my home, but I recently moved to Union. Not everyone sees you as an enemy, and they've even given us a chance to settle this peacefully. I can attest to the fact that this technology belongs to Union, although I have been given one myself. They're...we're good people."

"Exactly," Yukiko chimes in, "I was born and raised in Union, I grew up in the same place four generations of my family did. And for as long as I can remember, and as long as the rest of us can too, we've never had enemies."
