Spring Fling

For those who fear the encroaching flowers herald events of a slightly more urgent nature, perhaps it isn't really paranoia so much as sensibility.

Two days after they first appear, every single flower in Union blooms overnight. The sight is incredible - the entire city is blanketed in rainbow waves of color, and the scent of the flowers themselves is quite fragrant. The strange pink blossoms are particularly attractive.

For many of the residents of Union, however, the flowers may not be the first thing on their minds as things go a bit chaotic.

1. Enlightened with a Bug, Fairy, or Grass typing will become subject to extreme emotion swings. Primarily, the emotions will be positive, like overwhelming ecstasy, a sensation of giddiness, and a desire to spread cheer amongst their friends. These Enlightened may also suffer from confusion, an excessive amount of energy, and general loopiness. When not in sunlight, they'll swing towards the negative end of the emotional spectrum.

2. Bug, Grass, and Fairy type Pokémon have taken it upon themselves to settle into this new paradise, with the Bug types descending in swarms from above, and the Grass and Fairy types wandering in through the gates whenever the guards aren't looking. Though not violent, they'll be generally insensitive to the trouble they cause for the humans and will react negatively to anyone or anything harming the flowers.

3. Other strange Pokémon have also wandered into Union and while most appreciate the gentle sunlight, a few of the more mischievous have decided that the city could use some more variety. Each individual Castform may alter the weather between sun, rain, and hail within a certain area of the city ranging about two blocks. If Castform is creating Rain or Hail, Fairy, Bug, and Grass Enlightened will respond in a negative manner.

4. Allergies will be more fun to deal with than ever.

5. Finally, the following event Pokémon will be temporarily available to be bonded with as an extra bonus for this week. Please respond in the Map and Wild Pokemon post as per the usual to claim these. The level range is 5-8.

This event will end on April 13th. You may use this post as an IC mingle or make your own entries as you wish. If your character is a Fairy/Bug/Grass Enlightened and you prefer not to play the effects, you may opt-out.

[Yang's looking around Union with a screwed up expression on her face. Her lips begin to purse as she takes a couple of steps through the green spaces near the residential district, and then kneels down to look at a flower.]

[One of about thirty different flowers.]

This is kinda crazy, huh, Aura?

[Beside her, a tiny Pichu bobs her head, thoughtfully, before hopping up closer to the flower to take a peak.]

There's like, so many of them!

[Hi, Yang, have a cheerful Fairy type trying to throw a primitive attempt at a lei and a pair of skinny arms around your neck! Feliks is dressed up all pretty-like today, and giggling a little from the sheer energy all this sunlight seems to be giving him. His Kirlia, never far behind, is dancing around Yang and Feliks excitedly, followed by a trail of bouncing Exeggcute.]

I've been so ready for this, haven't you? So how's it hanging, anyways?

[Whoa. Not that Yang minds being hugged by Feliks, but that's not really what she expected. She laughs at him, a little awkwardly, and looks over her shoulder at him.]

It's hanging, uh, pretty good, I guess. This is off the hook, though, all these flowers! You, uh, were getting ready for spring?

Ugh, more than ready, it took forever to get here! But now it's finally here, and oh, my gods, it's so rad, right?

[Excuse him if he just... bounces in place a little.]

[Yang's head tracks up and down, up and down, watching him bounce. She laughs, though, and nods at him.]

Yeah! Well... y'know, it's good it's here. I didn't realize you were missing it so bad, though!

I know, right! I totally didn't realize it either, until this morning, I was just like, "oh Savior, spring," and now I just don't even wanna go inside!

Hey, you have awesome hair--I wanna put flowers in it!

Hey, that's the way to do it! Live life to its fullest and stuff. Right?

[She pauses, before she looks proud.]

My hair is totally awesome. You don't just get long, flowing locks like these. [Actually, you do.] I guess you can put flowers in it, but be careful!

[Someone else is less happy about all of this.]

The Grass types are invading! No fair! That was my plan!

[Oh boy. Yang turns at Squid Girl and raises an eyebrow at her, giving her a skeptical look.]

You were gonna invade? I think they beat you to the punch, kiddo!

Where were they hiding this huge army?

Maybe in the grass?

They were right under our beaks the whole time?

Can't rule it out, can you? They are Grass types...

Hey Yang!

[Jason's out and about. Yang somehow sticks out among all the flowers and a lot of people from Union seem to be curious about it. He's not alone either. Bolt the Pikachu scampers over and sniffs at the tiny Pichu. What's up cuz?]

Something bothering you about the plants? I don't think I've seen Peter in a better mood.

[He gestures over his shoulder where, a few feet away, a Spinarak is rolling around happily in the blooms. Not harming the flowers mind you...but enjoying them to an almost obscene degree. Jason shrugs.]

Jaaaaace!

[Yang flips around, to wave quickly at Jason. She nods and grins -- though the look on her face is a bit... distracted -- before she motions around for a moment.]

Seems kinda weird how they all showed up, with the new Pokémon. I mean, probably not anything to worry about, nope! But it seems a little weird.

[Aura sniffs at Bolt for a moment, tilting her head. Then she giggles, which causes a few sparks and crackles of visible static electricity to shoot off her.]

[He nods, eyeing the flowers. He should know that flowers can be dangerous given the various grass types out there, but it's hard to bring himself to worry about such a thing as too many flowers. It just seems silly.]

It is weird. But is there really much we can do about it? I think we should just enjoy them. Besides, more pokemon to bond with.

[Bolt sits back and smiles, his ear twitching. Ah, they're so cute when they're young. Bolt causes some sparks to shoot from his own cheeks, a way of communicating most likely. Jason watches and looks back up to Yang.]

Did you get her recently?

[ember_celica]

Mm-hmm. No harm, no foul, right?

[She nods, even if she's not sure of that. But at worst... they have to punch a Grass-type Pokemon in the face. It wouldn't be the first time. She looks up at Jace, tilting her head -- and then she grins.]

Yeah! Someone bred her for me, actually. She's pretty cute, huh? She'll grow up to be awesome and tough, I bet.

Of course.

[Jason is ready to punch Grass-types in the face if he needs to.]

She is and with you as a trainer I don't doubt the tough part. We'll have to test it some day.

[ember_celica]

Mm-hmm! [She reaches down and pats Aura on the top of the head, before stands back up and looks at Jason. She gives him a friendly nudge to the shoulder, with her knuckles. Not quite a playful punch, but maybe its next door neighbor.]

How've you been, Jace? Keeping busy?

Yeah...and it's kept me busy all morning.

[Asemu approaches. He looks a bit pale...]

[ember_celica]

...you feeling okay, Sparky? Don't throw up on me.

[She shuffles, a little. Totally not stepping aside in case he starts ralphing. Really.]

[second_destiny]

How many times have I told you not to call me that now?

[Dodging the question!]

[ember_celica]

I'm guessing saying I lost count won't help my case, huh.

[second_destiny]

No.

[He plops down on the ground.]

And I'm just worn out from cutting vines all day. I can only keep it up for so long.

[ember_celica]

[She looks down at him, tilting her head.]

You were cutting vines? That does sound like pretty hard work.
