Springtime for Union

After an unusually long and cold winter, the land is finally beginning to stir in the anticipation of spring. In the forest, the first flowers are beginning to peek out of the ground, the hum of Bug Pokémon begin to be heard, and of course, the first wisps of pollen begin to incite misery amongst the more sensitive of the population. The sun sets later and later each night, and at the end of a long workday, the prospect of escaping early to enjoy a stroll out in the brisk spring air becomes more and more enticing.

The pall cast by Team Evolution has long faded into little more than a distant cloud on the horizon. Though the mystery of 'Mega Evolution' remains unsolved, it seems inconsequential in the face of the strength that Union itself is gaining. All damage from the earthquakes has finally been fully repaired, production of iron and steel has been greatly enhanced by the discovery of the mine, there were plans to build a new port and to enhance the range of the Signal Tower, Enlightened and Pokémon everywhere were evolving one after another... On the whole, morale was high.

The city takes it upon itself to reflect this.

When the people of Union begin to stir early one spring morning, they will awaken to discover a cheerful city, indeed. All of Union, overnight, has become covered with vines and shrubs and flowers - plant life, everywhere the eye could see. Though the majority haven't yet begun to flower, the rainbow assortment of buds promises a lovely sight to come in the near future. A few citizens, annoyed, set to work removing the intrusive flora from their properties, but the majority simply take the unusual sight for what it is.

And for the particularly observant, dotted here and there among the landscape, the occasional large pink blossom can be spotted already in full bloom...

No. [ He makes a face that she can probably hear. ] Why would you want to come over? [ He pauses, then says, resigned - ] You're going to come over whether or not I say you can, aren't you.

Oh, especially when you ask me like that, I am!

[ a small giggle, and then a sing-song voice- ] See you soon, professor.

Researcher. [ He corrects shortly. ] Gramps is the Professor. And- don't come over. That's stupid.

A professional researcher. [ how about that? ] And no, it's stupid if I don't come over now.

Okay - whatever. Don't expect me to get you food or anything. [ Except - ugh, Daisy will probably make food for her if she asks. And double ugh - he actually has to change out of his pajamas now.

What a dumb girl. ]

I'll have a slice of toast! [ c'mon she knows he'll tell Daisy she's coming round and he'll probably slip in something about some toast and all will be as it always in the great Oak household.

silly boy. ]

I'll be there in ten minutes, okay? Be dressed and ready!

Yeah, yeah. Don't get too excited. [ He'll stumble down the stairs in some time, briefly grumble to Daisy that "that Blue girl is coming over again" before slumping at the kitchen table with his notebook.

Daisy will let Blue in when she comes. He's too busy creating a new journal entry for today. ]

[ Blue comes in around about the time she says, giving her good mornings to Daisy and then finding herself into the kitchen where Green is. Her nidorino and houndoom are there with her, and soon with Green will have a few picked flowers on the table with him. ]

Hey. Already writing away?

[ Vee chirps happily as Blue comes into the room, but Green is less excited to see her. ] You brought flowers. [ Just look at his face, Blue. He's so unimpressed. ]

[ Vee gets a small wave from Blue, Dahlia the houndoom also happy to see the eevee (Helio is fond of meeting people as well, but he's always been a quiet soul). Green though? Gets a quirk eyebrow. ]

Of course I brought flowers. [ but, oh- ] Did you suddenly become allergic?

... no. [ He admits it shortly, then looks back at his notebook. ] It's still weird.

Daisy made you toast.

Oh, great! [ just let her spot that spare piece - and bring it to her as she takes a seat. ]

I picked them from the growth along the walls. I thought you might like to see them. [ she shrugs, then points to one. ] I've never seen this one before.

[ taking a bite of her toast! and breaking a piece off, clicking her tongue for Dahlia to come and take it. ]

Hmm. [ He looks at the flowers non-noncommittally, then shrugs. ] I'll give them to Daisy or something.

[ And then he closes his notebook, moving back slightly in his chair. ] C'mon. Hurry up and let's go.

[ can't please everyone. but at his words of hurrying, she stands up as giving Dahlia's head a rub. ] Yes sir.

[ she kneels down to give Helio a piece too, and then nods her head to them to go to the door. ] I haven't spotted any unusual pokémon yet, but I've only been around the residential district so far. I haven't been outside the city yet.

[ He gets up, grabbing a light jacket off the back of a chair and pulling it on as he heads to the door. ] Well, let's check outside, then. This must have brought on some sort of change. [ And then he passes through the door without holding it open for her. Of course. ]

[ of course. She lets herself and her pokémon out, picking up speed so they're soon enough a tiny bit in front of Green (o f c o u r s e). ]

It has to be a pokémon - either a group of them or one powerful kind. Though I don't know why they would target the Union. [ ... ] Unless they thought it looked a bore.

[ He looks around, one hand in his pocket and the other holding his notebook. ] It's not that boring. This is just... over-extravagant.

Over-extravagant for a grass pokémon, you think?

... probably not. [ He'll admit that, however sullenly it is. ] I already have Saur - though I guess it would be prudent to spend some time observing a pure grass type, as opposed to a grass/poison type.

I mean. [ He glances at her, then coughs a little. ] It would make sense.

[ You're not worried about looking like a nerd around Blue, are you? Who thinks about what he says. ]

Hmm, a pure grass type... [ She's not actually sure she knows any... oh. ] Have you heard about the area they found in the forest recently? Maybe there's some there. I know they've found some new pokémon around the site.

[ His eyes don't quite light up, but they do get wider - and that's about the same thing, in Green-speak. ] Well. Let's go there, then.

Right now? [ she laughs. ] We're going to have to find the way first. I don't know where it is!

Please. [ He's dismissively waving his hand at you, Blue. ] You're in the company of the world's best pokémon researcher. [ Researcher, to-be researcher... whatever. ] It can't be that hard.

Oh, well! I'm surprised it hasn't been discovered yet in that case.

[ mister super professional researcher. ]

I can't do everything. Got to give the incompetent people a chance too. [ He runs a hand through his hair, possibly preening just a little. ]
