Elite Four Aftermath - In The Blizzard's Wake

The warriors of Union fought hard, and in the end, victory was their reward. Seeing the battle lost, the fanatics of the Elite Four fled into the night, those that were not killed or captured of course. Sveta was nowhere to be seen, nor was her mysterious companion, and as its rage was reaching its peak, the mighty Dragon simply vanished in a blaze of energy, recalled by its trainer but not before slamming the mysterious red dragon into another tower for good measure.

As quickly as they had come, the gods of Union vanished, leaving behind the ruined, devastated city. What was once panic has subsided to a quiet shock and horror as the dead and wounded are gathered and people try to find out what was damaged and if their family and friends are still among the living.

While the damage is great, the defenders of Union can take heart in the fact that it could have been much, much worse. The habitat suffered a major blow with a great hole blasted into it, but it is otherwise undamaged and salvageable. The forge likewise had one smithy station destroyed from a divine claw smite, but is otherwise unscathed. The signal tower took moderate damage from the initial attack, but it is reparable, given time. The biggest toll, however, is on that of the people. The Residential District, as well as parts of the Entertainment district lie in tatters. Several towers are gutted, and a few even fell completely, many of the citizens inside them trapped and unable to escape. In all, the death toll numbers around 700, with at least 1,000 wounded, and is expected to rise as rescuers desperately comb the wreckage in search of survivors. Never before has Union lost so many of its citizens, never before has such suffering and violence come to Union. People are afraid, they are angry, but, in the true spirit of Union, they are banding together. The City of Union has survived. But it will never be the same.

I think she was a hero. [As much as Sveta was convinced otherwise.] I have ever since my dad first told me the story when I was a little kid.

[Never mind that he's still pretty little, all things considered.]

But is she a hero to you, because of what she did? Or because of the kind of person she was?

[He takes some time to consider that... and then nodding assuredly to himself before he answers.] A bit of both, but... mostly because of the kind of person she was, according to Dad. As kind as she was brave...

[And there appears a real smile, finally. Those stories are ones he holds close to his heart, and he's practically committed the words to memory by now.]

Then that is what matters most. [funny how she can speak confidently on that for him, when she has so much unsettled in her own life] Whether the Savior was a hero or a martyr, whether she was real, or not, what's important is that you remember what it was that inspired you.

[... The words kind of surprise him a little and Geo's smile turns a little mareepish sheepish.]

You really think so? Um... thanks. [He feels a little better now at least. Maia, who's been sleeping silently up until now, stirs. Geo's smile turns warm as he strokes the Espurr's fur and offers her some of the bread. His smile fades somewhat, after.]

... That was really scary... [The attack, he means.]

[ There's a small smile back, before Sophia rests a hand on her bulbasaur's head, earning a small sigh of contentment. A honedge drifts close by, clearly completing a circuit of the area, pausing only to note his person's companion before drifting away again.

He has good reason to maintain patrol. They have all had good reason to fear.
]

It was. I don't think any of us wished to meet a god like that, here.

Honestly, I could have done without meeting a god at all...

[The few moments that his group had with the god felt like a very terrifying eternity. He'd rather pass on another experience like that, really.] I'm just really glad to be alive after that... though, I guess that can be said for everyone who did make it, huh?

[ That..is very much a feeling Sophia can get behind. That the other gods had promptly peaced out without so much as a goodbye once the dragon had departed likely hadn't helped their image with the younger population, either. ]

I guess it can. There are plenty of things to be grateful for in this life.
