Descent

Iron Mines:
The trip to the eastern mountains is punctuated by the continuing aftershocks. After each one, it may be tempting to glance back at Union to see if any of the towers have fallen yet. The expedition parties move with incredible speed, knowing that the fate of their City hangs on the line.

When they reach the mountains, guided by the coordinates given of the 'strange radio signal', the parties will find that many of the normal entrances and routes have been blocked by cave-ins. In contrast, however, a gaping hole has opened up where none existed before. As this seems to be the easiest way to gain access, the parties slowly lower themselves in...

They will find themselves in the long-sought iron mines.

But there are so many twisting turns and tunnels, it will be impossible to stay together and make any sort of progress. Each group will have to take their own paths from here...

Old City:
Each of the twelve entrances down into the Old City take a different meandering route through the ruins. Though several are blocked off by this time, there are still many potential paths to take. The state of the Old City is poor, being underground as it is, and occasional soft rumblings are certain to cause unease. As the report states, however, there is enough of an interval between quakes that it should be possible to investigate safely.

It would be unwise to venture down alone, but it is impossible, too, for everyone to stay together if they wish to make headway.

Union:
The wild Pokémon continue to come out of the Old City, though the frequency has been somewhat lessened. Rubble lines the streets and though no towers have collapsed as of yet, some seem to be dangerously close and certainly nobody should be staying inside of them. As stated, the towers in Sector 3 are the worse off and construction crews work frantically to attempt to restabilize the foundations of these buildings.

The injured are innumerable, the number of casualties is as of yet unknown, and the chaos and panic is difficult to fend off.

There is a great deal of work to be done.

((Please post below with your groups - in the first comment, please note the members of your group, where you are, and whether or not you intend to keep a threading order. Regardless of threading order, mods will be responding at least once every 24 hours to keep the event moving. Groups should be three to four people in size.

At this time, all characters entering the iron mines will be able to choose to bond with a free extra Pokemon listed under 'Cavern' in the Map and Wild Pokemon post. Please respond there if you intend to make use of this. Characters who have already claimed a free Old City Pokemon may not do so.))

[He waves a hand dismissively, navigating around Sora's Squirtle.] Yeah, yeah, I got it.

[He quietly makes his way over the pile of rocks, beginning to shift some of the rocks away from the entrance. He, too, keeps his voice quiet.]

If he can't take a jump like that, he's going to need to come back over here. I got rope.

[Speaking of which. He fishes a long coil of ~~escape~~ rope out of the small bag he keeps at his side, before tossing it over to Moonbay.]

And you can find something to tie that around. Something that's not going to shift on us. We might need to come back up.

[Sora listens intently to Moonbay and Irvine. Huh. That explains his own observations. But he's not at all concerned about the drop itself. He'll whisper back]

Don't worry about me, I can take it. I'll meet ya down there.

[And with that, he gives one more glance down the hole before he jumps down. Thanks to his own abilities, when he lands- it's on his feet. It takes a moment to get oriented, but the tell-tale sign that he's not dead is that he'll start warping the two pokemon down to him]

[She sticks her tongue out at Irvine before finding a very conveniently placed column of rock that looks sturdy enough to not send them to their doom. Once she's got the rope tied nice and tight, she goes over to the hole and peers down.]

Guess we'll meet him down there.

[While she is manipulative and selfish to some degree, no one can say she's afraid of getting her hands dirty. Without being prompted or discussing it, she tugs on the rope with a grin, grips it firmly, and hops into the hole to start her descent.]

[Real mature.

Irvine, however, is has proven to be relatively good at ignoring immature gestures thrown his way, and after Moonbay lands he follows her down. And when his feet suddenly find cave floor again, he nods towards where Sora is, and begins to walk over to meet him. It'd probably make the most sense to continue to walk in the direction they had been heading before—past Sora, and hopefully further into the cave, but—]

Might as well do your thing again.

[Sora and Moonbay will find as they descend through their respective holes that the rock is filled with pores going one way or another - it's easy to see now how the sound was conveyed so easily between the two ends of the tunnel. It's not possible to pass through them, though.

Sora, Moonbay and Irvine will each descend successfully down to the cavern. But as Irvine walks forward to meet Sora, he may note that it is... a difficult prospect, given the large chasm in the way. It may be passable if someone is quite daring and quite good at long jumps.

It's possible to progress forward into the cave system from both sides, though.]

[Irvine will now feel Moonbay grip the back of his shirt and yank him back from the chasm with a sharp tug.]

I don't need to do that to tell me you're an idiot! I swear, if you fall, I'm not going to save your ass again!

[She's worried. Really.]

[He turns when he hears them coming, and he notices the chasm right before Irvine steps into it OHCRAPNO- oh wait Moonbay's got him thank goodness.]

[He looks at the length of the chasm himself. Sure, he's got his high jump but...that seems pretty risky]

Heh heh, uh...should I try to jump over?

No one is jumping, stepping, leaping or skipping anywhere near that damn thing!! Stay on your side, and let's get walking!

[She's basically barking at the two of them now because JESUS CHRIST YOU GUYS!! She actually does care, and her nerves are still on edge from that.]

[Aw crap, that's scarier than the Onix above them]

Ah- Y-Yes ma'am!

[STARTS WALKING]

[And as Sora turns towards the exit on his end, a deafening roar sounds forth, shaking the cave they stand in. ...It seems to have come from both passages. Or maybe it was just so loud it was impossible to tell.

There is the sound of rumbling as the walls continue to shake...

Whatever's up ahead may be trouble.]

((Just gonna note this will be my last response for the night so no one is kept waiting! Also going to note that it's quite likely that tomorrow you'll be reaching a final obstacle/goal for your group.))

I wasn't going to fall. Maybe I was just making sure you were paying—

[Is the start of his clipped response to the sharp tug at the back of his shirt, and the equally sharp comments thereafter as he turns and starts to walk. But before he can say much else about it, he hears the harsh roar reverberate through the tunnels and he stops sharply and looks back behind him, and whatever argument he might have been quite willing to take part in stops and shifts. He hesitates. It sounded like the both sides of the tunnel might meet up again and connect, but—]

You sure you want to leave the kid?

[FRANKLY THE KID'S NOT SO SURE HE WANTS TO BE LEFT EITHER. But after what Moonbay said he wasn't about to backtrack]

[Though that roar? As much guts as he has, it makes him tremble and he has to bite his lip to stop himself from making a scared noise. It was louder and scarier sounding than anything he's faced before- and probably a lot bigger too.]

[But with the walls shaking, maybe this is what's causing the earthquakes. Maybe at least if he could see what it is...he could call for back up? Tell the Guard? Something like that.]

[And so, he turns to his pokemon- gesturing at them to be absolutely silent. And then, hugging the wall, he slowly starts creeping forward as quiet as he can be so he can see what's at the end of this passage. ]

[Her scowl only deepens at the roar, and her eyes narrow to accompany it.]

Look, we knew it'd be risky, and there are bigger things to worry about, too. [Pause.] Bigger on a scale of importance I mean. Like Union's safety. We're not stopping here, and I, for one, am not going to let some mystery roar scare me off!

[Since they're unable to tell where it's coming from, she takes a breath and yells, aiming down at the chasm.]

Whatever you are-- either shut up and leave us alone or show yourself so we can get this over with!!

[... Moonbay used Taunt! Was it effective...?]

[It depends on the effect Moonbay wants to achieve, really.

If she was going for the passage on her side suddenly exploding outwards as another bellowing roar echoes forth, then she totally nailed it.

The destruction of the passageway sends rocks falling from the ceiling and dust flying out in a thick cloud, momentarily obscuring the face of whatever it was that had just burst through... But then... That roar is pretty distinctive.

The dust slowly settles in an elongated, ominous silence........... and eventually, the dim light reveals the face of the creature standing before them.]

Graaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

[A wild Tyrantrum has appeared!!! It bellows forth its outrage! And as the dust continues to clear, a gleam of light runs up and down its body.

A shiny wild Tyrantrum has appeared!

It wastes no time. The gargantuan creature immediately rushes forth to crunch down on Moonbay and Irvine with its massive jaws!

...Some mood music may be appropriate.

Sora, in the meantime, may be quite glad that he stayed on his side. Though his own passage trembles mightily as the Tyrantrum bursts through, he'll make it safely to through, right into another cavern. This one is clearly recognizable as one in which Tyrantrum has been causing havoc - there are fallen rocks everywhere, footprints all over, general wreckage and ruins. But sitting against the back of the wall... there seems to be some sort of machine. Obviously man-made.

If he wants, he can check out the machine. Or he can follow the Tyrantrum back around onto Moonbay and Irvine's side to attack from the back.]

[And on cue, Moonbay's warp band activates to bring in her Onix!! Tyrantrum will find its hoped mouthful of squishy people limbs has been replaced by a giant bouldered body, whose owner does not look too please at being chewed upon. That buys her a few moments to regroup.]

Irvine, use Detect when I give you the signal! Give me visuals! Staying away from the edge is still key. Get some healing items ready, too.

[She won't waste her breath yelling across to Sora. Instead, she uses the warp band to get in touch.]

Go on ahead, we've got this here. Let me know what you find, and be quick about it!

[Instructions sent, she looks back at their attacker now, starting to Analyze it.]

[HOLY FUCKING SHIT ITS A DINOSAUR.]

[Sora's eyes were already wide when Moonbay decided to TAUNT the creature, and now they managed to grow even bigger when the Tyrantrum comes bursting out. He remembers having a stuffed animal of one of those when he was a kid]

[Turns out they are much scarier when they aren't in plushie form. What do you know.]

[He noticed the machine against the wall, but he doesn't head there immediately as he's torn about running to that or his teammates since he wasn't one to abandon his friends even if they were people who taunted dinosaurs. But luckily, Moonbay's warp band message comes through before he does anything reckless]

[Right. The mission.]

Okay! You got it! Be careful!

[He just has to check it out, right? Then he can help them. And so pulling himself away from the wall- he'll use his Agility ability to run as quickly as he can to the machine - which is fair to say is hella fast. ]

[Tyrantrum: the Despot Po --

Wait no wrong type of analysis.

Moonbay will pick up the following as she applies her abilities - its skin is like stone; its jaws flex with an incredible amount of strength as its teeth almost sink down right into Onix. But its dominant reptilian features and its aura of raw power mark it as something above your average Rock-type; the eroding force of Water and the sapping strength of Grass won't bother it overly much.

Rock/Dragon.

It is weak to Fighting, Ground, Steel, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy, but will shrug off Normal, Flying, Poison, Fire, and Electric attacks.

Its jaws are incredibly powerful and its roar has already been experienced. Its muscled legs pound into the ground with every step. It lowered its head to charge through the rock wall; it can clearly throw about rocks with barely any effort.

They can expect Roar, Stomp, Bide, Stealth Rock, Bite, and Head Smash.

It is Level 25 and its physical power is through the roof.]

[The Tyrantrum's jaws clamp down! ...And recoil at the taste of Onix. Its biting power is so immense, though, that it may very well have cracked some of Onix's body. In a rage, it erupts forth with a Roar meant to send the Onix tumbling back!

Sora will reach the machine in record time and will find it terribly confusing. If he has any knowledge whatsoever of this kind of thing, two or three minutes of poking about will reveal that yes, there is indeed a strange signal being broadcast from here. ...But it's not complete. Or at least, doesn't comprise the entirety of the signal that was detected.

If he doesn't have any knowledge, he will find it to be confounding, filled with displays showing indecipherable numbers and with neat rows of switches and buttons.

He could destroy the machine if he has no other alternative, but something like this could be valuable for Union to study. The machine itself is quite substantial - a little bit taller than Sora and about five feet wide.]

Regardless of his feelings towards her current life choices, he does what she says, slipping his bag off his shoulder, shifting a few healing items into the front most pocket, before handing the bag to her—because who the hell knows if he'll be fighting or not—and quickly shifts into his Absol form. He's ready to Detect when she tells him to, shaking his head at the sudden, piercing sound that's making him feel agitated.]

There's some kind of noise coming from somewhere. Might be what was driving this thing crazy before you taunted it.

[Which he manages to get in before the Tyrantrum lets out a roar, and he's ready to scramble quickly out of the way if necessary, trying to pinpoint where that damn noise is coming from.]

[She grits her teeth at the Roar as Onix slides behind the two of them to regroup, silently thanking it for their defense. She could always call in Rhyhorn, but that'll be a last ditch effort if she even goes that route. Venipede and Swadloon are out. For now, they'll stall until Onix is ready to get back in there.

Moonbay looks to Irvine, quickly to make sure he's on guard.] Talk to it if you can. Get it to calm down and find out what's got it riled up. I can't be the sole reason, even for something this bad. Watch its feet, teeth and head for attacks, as well as the surrounding rocks. Keep a distance if you can.

[She brings up the warp band to use, just in case.]

[The damn noise is coming from behind Tyrantrum, from back where it had come. Even as Irvine shifts, the noise will seem to become even higher-pitched and louder! Tyrantrum will stamp its feet on the ground in anger, rushing forth to try and Stomp Moonbay and Irvine. Irvine himself may begin to feel a bit... incensed.

Onix won't be immune to the effects of this, either. It will feel a strong desire to clash with the thing that had chomped down on its body.]

[No, he really, really thinks it's mostly just the noise and the present annoying as hell company he can suddenly and acutely sympathize with. He flinches visibly when the sound intensifies. At least he gets that the noise is probably what's causing him to feel suddenly aggressive. Doesn't change the fact that that he does, but what the hell. If the damn dinosaur wants a fight he'll give it a fight. Fighting the urge to snap a comment at Moonbay behind him (it'd be all-too easy, but he knows he'd just come out of it more annoyed), he darts forward, using Detect to dodge the Tyrantum's questionable foot placement he navigates behind the ticked Pokémon so at least he and Moonbay aren't on the same side of things. Because that would be stupid.

What was he supposed to do? Talk to it. Right? Good plan. Maybe she should have done that first.]

Hey! What the hell is wrong with you?!
