Iron Mines:
The trip to the eastern mountains is punctuated by the continuing aftershocks. After each one, it may be tempting to glance back at Union to see if any of the towers have fallen yet. The expedition parties move with incredible speed, knowing that the fate of their City hangs on the line.
When they reach the mountains, guided by the coordinates given of the 'strange radio signal', the parties will find that many of the normal entrances and routes have been blocked by cave-ins. In contrast, however, a gaping hole has opened up where none existed before. As this seems to be the easiest way to gain access, the parties slowly lower themselves in...
They will find themselves in the long-sought iron mines.
But there are so many twisting turns and tunnels, it will be impossible to stay together and make any sort of progress. Each group will have to take their own paths from here...
Old City:
Each of the twelve entrances down into the Old City take a different meandering route through the ruins. Though several are blocked off by this time, there are still many potential paths to take. The state of the Old City is poor, being underground as it is, and occasional soft rumblings are certain to cause unease. As the report states, however, there is enough of an interval between quakes that it should be possible to investigate safely.
It would be unwise to venture down alone, but it is impossible, too, for everyone to stay together if they wish to make headway.
Union:
The wild Pokémon continue to come out of the Old City, though the frequency has been somewhat lessened. Rubble lines the streets and though no towers have collapsed as of yet, some seem to be dangerously close and certainly nobody should be staying inside of them. As stated, the towers in Sector 3 are the worse off and construction crews work frantically to attempt to restabilize the foundations of these buildings.
The injured are innumerable, the number of casualties is as of yet unknown, and the chaos and panic is difficult to fend off.
There is a great deal of work to be done.
((Please post below with your groups - in the first comment, please note the members of your group, where you are, and whether or not you intend to keep a threading order. Regardless of threading order, mods will be responding at least once every 24 hours to keep the event moving. Groups should be three to four people in size.
At this time, all characters entering the iron mines will be able to choose to bond with a free extra Pokemon listed under 'Cavern' in the Map and Wild Pokemon post. Please respond there if you intend to make use of this. Characters who have already claimed a free Old City Pokemon may not do so.))

Iron mines
He'd asked Feliks if he wanted to come along too, both wanting to spend more time with his new friend and thinking that perhaps if there was someone around that he really wanted to impress - just why he wasn't certain of yet - then maybe he'd be able to hold it together.
And hold it together he did, remarkably well, right up until they'd walked almost a kilometer through winding tunnels. That was when constantly controlling his breathing finally took its toll and Fai had to lean against the wall to not sway alarmingly, blinking to try to clear his vision of black spots. The air was just so still, the walls so very close, the weight of the rock above them like a physical pressure against his mind. He didn't even like staying indoors for long, and now there was no quick and easy way of getting anywhere where he could breathe. It was nauseating.]
Ahh, you two, could we... mm, stop a moment? It must be all that thin air on the way here, I feel a little faint. I'm fine, really! I just need to rest a bit. [Pff, thin air. About as thin as his excuses, and he knew it. Despite the faint violet glow from his skin, it must be obvious to anyone how pale his face was under that faint layer of sweat.]
Re: Iron mines
[The Houndour gives a small bark of acknowledgement, and sits down, scanning the darkness for any hint of danger. She insisted on being in front, considering how soft and squishy the majority of the members of this strange little pack looked.]
[Feliks, meanwhile, turns to face Fai curiously. What's his deal all of a sudden? He himself has been a ray of sunshine in spite of the obvious high stakes, unable to quite contain his excitement at his first breaths of clear, chill mountain air, chattering away amiably and only slowing when the sunlight faded away completely. It took a little concentration after that point to control the fire in his lantern, making sure it was small enough to use little air and bright enough to see by decently.]
Wow, you totally don't look so good! You're not seriously tired already, right?
Hey, ow!
[Thankfully, at least his Pokémon friend is capable of telling how people are feeling, and they've known each other long enough that he immediately understands her poke in the arm and dissatisfied presence in his mind to mean "Feliks, I know you aren't trying to be a jerk, but you're being a jerk." And she's usually right, considering the whole psychic deal. He hesitates, looking Fai over more carefully.]
...I mean, are you like sick or something? I've got some water...

Worry kicks his overprotective instincts up a few more gears and so the look he sends Feliks is probably a bit more sharp than the situation, or his comment, requires, and opens his mouth to reply just as the deafening roar courses through the cave. He flinches and glances around but is unable to tell what could have made it. Either way it didn't matter. The important thing here was to make sure Fai was alright, whatever the sound came from could be dealt with after that.]
He's not sick. He's claustrophobic. [And dammit he should have noticed something sooner.] But some water might still be good.
Fai, lets sit down for a bit, alright. [His voice is softer now and his hands are gentle but firm as he pushes Fai down into a sitting position without waiting for a reply. Settling down next on the ground as well Yuui wraps his arms around him, making sure not to hold him too tightly, and strokes his hair.] It's going to be okay.
/tags softly from phone sob
One states that he's absolutely terrified and oh god he's breathing a bit too fast, and so the safety of having Yuui near is extremely comforting. It feels good, makes his muscles start to slowly relax.
The other, however, tells him he must look like a complete baby with his brother holding him and petting his hair like this and god, Feliks must think he's such a pathetic loser.
The third wants to know WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK that noise was.
In the end, he ends up leaning into his brother for a moment before feebly batting his hand away from his hair, gathering his feet under him in an attempt to get up.]
Water sounds great, Feliks, if you could...? [A deep breath, trying to feel like he's not choking on air.] Look, Yuui, I'm not shaking anymore, and I don't think we can sit around just now, right? We should probably... [A weak gesture further down the caves.]

Because I knew that? Here....
[He shifts her to one side and takes the water out of his bag, but quickly turns back to the darkened passageway where Emilia is quietly growling. Unconsciously, but not really accidentally at all, he's put himself squarely in between the twins and whatever made that sound before.]
no subject
Don't be stubborn. We have time, whatever that is it can wait a minute. Feliks will let us know if he sees anything, right Feliks? [It's as close to an apology for snapping Yuui can manage at the moment.] Just- drink some water and take a moment. For me? [If reasoning doesn't help then he's not above pleading.]
[Cargan, Yuui's Roggenrola, leaves the twins side to stand next to Feliks, helping him keep guard. If this new addition to their group is going to protect Cargan's human, and the one who's almost Cargan's human, then he approves and will do his very best to help.]

master'stwin's voice. But now the all that hastily swallowed-down fear is telling him that he needs to get up or he'll lose it again, and so he struggles to his feet, uncommonly awkwardly for someone usually so graceful. Thank the Saviour that Feliks is still looking in another direction.][And... did Feliks just move in between them and the danger? That's kind of... sweet, isn't it?]
Can you see anything at all? [He takes a teetering step toward the darkness, but then has to turn back and reach out a hand to Yuui in a silent plea. He can stand and he wants to stand... but he might need a little bit of support too.]
[Mr Sunshine bounds up to Jadwiga's side, giving an impatient little jiff at his human who is being way too slow.]
Sorry for the fail, was tagging in 5 minutes between lessons on my phone
I can't see anything yet... It'll be cool if we stick together, though, right?
no subject
It only takes him a second to take Fai's hand, the contact helping him feel better as well, and he brings it up to his lips to give it a quick kiss before sending Fai an encouraging smile as they slowly begin to follow Feliks. Just because he worries doesn't mean that he doesn't have full confidence in his brother's ability to handle this.]
Of course it will. [He squeezes Fai's hand gently, not sure who he's trying to assure the most, Fai, Feliks, or himself.] We'll be fine.
LETS ADD SOME SCENERY now with a link
Yuui is... well, Yuui, one of the strongest people he knows. His fingers brush gently against Cargan as he comes closer and he smiles down at the pokémon, knowing that he, no pun intended, always provides solid support. The two Houndours scanning the darkness in front of them both look ready for anything, Babycakes is standing up on her flower with her arms crossed in defiance, and Jadwiga seems to have settled in absolute confidence in her human friend. And Feliks is brave, and has this air about him that makes it hard to think he could be beat.]
Of course it will. [Some of the tremble lost from his voice, some of his old cheer gained back as they continue forwards.] Though it would be nice if we were able to see properly. Hold on... [And as Fai focuses, his glow intensifies, and if it's not as bright as day in the caves around them, at least it'll be possible to properly see what awaits them. Which is just as well, because what awaits is a sheer drop ahead of them, looking out over another cavern below, where it seems like shenanigans are going down.]

[Fear grips the heart of him, and a strange sort of anger at himself. What looks to him like two people and their Pokémon are down there, fighting for their lives and everyone else's, and... and he can't do anything for them. None of them can fly, or their Pokémon, and neither he nor his Pokémon can attack at this kind of range. He grits his teeth, feeling weaker, more useless and powerless than he ever has before.]
I... There's gotta be another way down there! Right?
[Even as he says it, he knows by the time they find one, the group down there will either not need their help or be far beyond anyone's help.]
