Spring Fling

For those who fear the encroaching flowers herald events of a slightly more urgent nature, perhaps it isn't really paranoia so much as sensibility.

Two days after they first appear, every single flower in Union blooms overnight. The sight is incredible - the entire city is blanketed in rainbow waves of color, and the scent of the flowers themselves is quite fragrant. The strange pink blossoms are particularly attractive.

For many of the residents of Union, however, the flowers may not be the first thing on their minds as things go a bit chaotic.

1. Enlightened with a Bug, Fairy, or Grass typing will become subject to extreme emotion swings. Primarily, the emotions will be positive, like overwhelming ecstasy, a sensation of giddiness, and a desire to spread cheer amongst their friends. These Enlightened may also suffer from confusion, an excessive amount of energy, and general loopiness. When not in sunlight, they'll swing towards the negative end of the emotional spectrum.

2. Bug, Grass, and Fairy type Pokémon have taken it upon themselves to settle into this new paradise, with the Bug types descending in swarms from above, and the Grass and Fairy types wandering in through the gates whenever the guards aren't looking. Though not violent, they'll be generally insensitive to the trouble they cause for the humans and will react negatively to anyone or anything harming the flowers.

3. Other strange Pokémon have also wandered into Union and while most appreciate the gentle sunlight, a few of the more mischievous have decided that the city could use some more variety. Each individual Castform may alter the weather between sun, rain, and hail within a certain area of the city ranging about two blocks. If Castform is creating Rain or Hail, Fairy, Bug, and Grass Enlightened will respond in a negative manner.

4. Allergies will be more fun to deal with than ever.

5. Finally, the following event Pokémon will be temporarily available to be bonded with as an extra bonus for this week. Please respond in the Map and Wild Pokemon post as per the usual to claim these. The level range is 5-8.

This event will end on April 13th. You may use this post as an IC mingle or make your own entries as you wish. If your character is a Fairy/Bug/Grass Enlightened and you prefer not to play the effects, you may opt-out.

Sounds like a good plan. Have you decided where you'll go yet?

Not yet. We haven't really talked about where more than we've talked about just going.

[globetrotting]

Hmm... how about the canyon? Stella would be your strongest there... [ She puts a finger to her chin, thinking. ]

Or you could try for over the ocean. That would be more exciting. There's still a lot to explore about the island.

Both places sound really cool. It'd be nice to get out of Union for a while, really. I mean, I like it here, but we kinda have to stop being afraid of going elsewhere eventually, right?

[ She laughs a bit, sheepishly. She and Aster have both had ... experiences with going into some of the areas around Union. She had better luck in Scorched Forest, at least ... ]

[globetrotting]

Not if you want to explore. Sure, it can be dangerous out there... but isn't seeing so many different sights worth it?

[ Scary, but exciting. It fills her heart up with many emotions, and maybe that's why she's had thoughts and just one day picking up her things and going on and on... ]

And you won't be the same as you were the week before. Training and and putting yourself out there makes all the difference.

It'll probably be better than my first attempt on my own, when Aster and I do figure out where we're going and just go!

It's still a little scary for both of us, but ... I think we can push through that.

[globetrotting]

Why not just pick a direction at random? Just don't think about it so hard.

I guess we could do that ...

[ Still scary. Her experience with the forest had really made her confidence in traveling on her own take a nosedive. ]

[globetrotting]

Well, unless you and Aster finally decide on a location, you'll never get anywhere. Grab a map and close your eyes and put your finger down at a place. And there you go!

Really, if you two keep dawdling over it, I'll make it my personal mission to take you both somewhere. [ She flashes her a grin. ]

[ourlegends]

Maybe you should. Then we'd have one person who knows for sure what they're doing.

[ She grins at her friend. It was meant to be a joke, but she was only really half-joking about it. ]

[globetrotting]

Sure. Just tell me how long you want to be out and having fun and I can think of the places to go.

[ You know. If you really want to consider that. ]

[ourlegends]

We'll have to see what Aster thinks, but I wouldn't mind being out for weeks at a time if we were prepared for it!

[globetrotting]

We'll try one week or one and a half to begin with, especially if you both haven't gone that far before.

[ Hmm. ] You know, also thinking about what you might want to see can help. Do you both want to travel just to travel? Or is there anything else you want to get out of it?

[ourlegends]

I haven't really thought much about that ... I guess I just want to see the world. It's not like there's much I'm good at ...

[ Oh no inferiority complex. ]

... I'll ask Aster what he wants to see. I'm fine with just seeing anything, but Aster might have more of an idea of what he wants to see.

[globetrotting]

[ She gives that some thought for a moment, more so Hilda's first words than her last. ]

Then I'll leave that to you. I think I've given you a few things to think about between each other.

[ They've gotten a good way into the mountain by now, but there's still a way left to go!] But it's fine not having a speciality. Just learning to travel and picking up things -- ah [ They come to an upper ledge into the way they're taking, which Blue places a hand on ] watch you're step here.

[ Conversation will have to wait! Blue lifts herself up, then makes room for Hilda. ] Do you think you can get up?

[ourlegends]

I think so ... I'll let you know if I need some help.

[ Fortunately, she's able to pull herself up onto that ledge without any help at all, and she's standing next to her friend again soon enough. ]

We'll definitely have to talk about it, and I'll keep in touch with you to let you know what we decide on.

[ Hahaaaa 8'D According to the people back home, her not being good at academic stuff was such a waste. Daddy was a genius, you know. ]

[globetrotting]

[ Good job on that ledge. There's another one coming up but after that it' just walking again. ]

Mm. But remember, you can learn a lot of things through travelling too. I don't have a speciality either, but there's research types and engineers who ask for data and materials that people like us can go and get.

[ She turns her head to look back at Hilda for a moment. ] So really, seeing and exploring everywhere is a good thing. You can get jobs from it.

[ourlegends]

Really? So I guess I'd better learn what I'm doing with this stuff. A job would be nice.

[ A job would definitely help with being self-sufficient and not a total and complete failure! ]

[globetrotting]

Try looking on the notice boards and see what people are asking for. Mostly there's an interest in gathering materials, so you should get familiar with locations and have a team that can help you out in different parts.

[ourlegends]

I should probably work more on getting to know all the locations and getting confident with everything before I take a job for sure, but I'll definitely go take a look at those!

[globetrotting]

Sure! If I ever see a job that's asking for more than one person too, I'll let you know. We can both try for it.

[ourlegends]

[ With that, Blue will let them focus on getting to the location that they set out for. It's not that much further - more rising edges to get them there and tricky walkways (that aren't really walkways but there you go) to step along cautiously, but then the ground goes mostly flat, still with the mountain spiralling upwards in the middle, but they only need to circle around the part that they're on and already, so much of the lands around them can be seen all over. ]

Just over here - there's a nice cliff and some rocks you can sit on.

[ It wasn't just a simple walk to get there - even with the obstructions and the need to climb over things, it took a bit of time to get there. And when they're in the area that Blue was leading them to, the sight of the Lake Shrine and all the land around it look so small and breathtaking at the same time. Blue takes in the sight, then looks over at Hilda with a grin as she joins her. ]

And I haven't heard you get the sniffles in ages.

[ourlegends]

[ She's actually able to take a deep breath and not sneeze while she's up here, and that's amazing. Hilda does just that, then looks out at the sight before her with a sense of awe. ]

Yeah, it's really nice up here ... and we're away enough from all the pollen that I can actually enjoy it.

[ She grins right back at her friend. ]
