Spring Fling

For those who fear the encroaching flowers herald events of a slightly more urgent nature, perhaps it isn't really paranoia so much as sensibility.

Two days after they first appear, every single flower in Union blooms overnight. The sight is incredible - the entire city is blanketed in rainbow waves of color, and the scent of the flowers themselves is quite fragrant. The strange pink blossoms are particularly attractive.

For many of the residents of Union, however, the flowers may not be the first thing on their minds as things go a bit chaotic.

1. Enlightened with a Bug, Fairy, or Grass typing will become subject to extreme emotion swings. Primarily, the emotions will be positive, like overwhelming ecstasy, a sensation of giddiness, and a desire to spread cheer amongst their friends. These Enlightened may also suffer from confusion, an excessive amount of energy, and general loopiness. When not in sunlight, they'll swing towards the negative end of the emotional spectrum.

2. Bug, Grass, and Fairy type Pokémon have taken it upon themselves to settle into this new paradise, with the Bug types descending in swarms from above, and the Grass and Fairy types wandering in through the gates whenever the guards aren't looking. Though not violent, they'll be generally insensitive to the trouble they cause for the humans and will react negatively to anyone or anything harming the flowers.

3. Other strange Pokémon have also wandered into Union and while most appreciate the gentle sunlight, a few of the more mischievous have decided that the city could use some more variety. Each individual Castform may alter the weather between sun, rain, and hail within a certain area of the city ranging about two blocks. If Castform is creating Rain or Hail, Fairy, Bug, and Grass Enlightened will respond in a negative manner.

4. Allergies will be more fun to deal with than ever.

5. Finally, the following event Pokémon will be temporarily available to be bonded with as an extra bonus for this week. Please respond in the Map and Wild Pokemon post as per the usual to claim these. The level range is 5-8.

This event will end on April 13th. You may use this post as an IC mingle or make your own entries as you wish. If your character is a Fairy/Bug/Grass Enlightened and you prefer not to play the effects, you may opt-out.

[He shakes his head.] I definitely wouldn't say that! I haven't known you long, but you're definitely not an idiot, trust me on that! Just believe in yourself and do your best!

Besides. You probably haven't done as stupid of things as this guy here.

Is that so, Braea? What kinds of stupid things has Aster done? Tell me, tell me!

[ There's a grin on her face now. She had no problem calling herself stupid, really, because she wasn't able to live up to the standards her Dad had set years before she was old enough to realize what standards were. It was always fun to learn of stupid things her friends had done, though. ]

This one time after we bonded, he went into the Verdant Forest--not far in because he's too chicken to go dee-

Hey! I'm not "too chicken!" Just...

Whatever you say. Anyway, we went into the forest because he wanted to see if he could study some of the pokemon there. It started getting late, and we were getting hungry. By the time we were able to get his attention to feed us... Well, he didn't bring any food! None! We were gone for hours, and he didn't even think to bring necessary supplies!

[Aster's cheeks color a little bit in embarrassment.]

H-hey, that was only the one time! And besides, I got us home, at least.

Somehow. I'm amazed you managed to do that in the dark without my help, but I guess you gotta have some things you can do on your own.

[The young researcher makes a face at the Purrloin.]

Oooohhh, so that was the first visit to the Forest that you mentioned a while back ...

[ Yes, she remembered that comment. She was more focused on talk of their families at that point, but she remembered he mentioned his first trip to the forest didn't end well. ]

Glad you guys made it out safely, though. You did better than I did as far as that goes. I had to get help.

Like Braea said, we didn't go far in, so there wasn't really much room to get lost. In reality, though, that wasn't even my first trip. My first trip...

[He trails off, taking on a thoughtful expression.]

I don't even really know what happened, to be honest. All I know is that I almost died. I remember leaving town carefully. I was nervous, of course, because of my parents, but Tonitrus was with me, so I thought it'd be okay. Next thing I know, I woke up in the Medical Center.

[ Hilda winced. She just kept asking all the wrong questions around him, didn't she? He didn't seem like answering was a hard thing to do, but she still felt bad that he had to explain all of the terrible things in his life to her.

It's amazing that he could keep up the optimism, between missing parents and almost dying. She leaned over and hugged him with one arm as a sort of apology. ]

[Aster blinks, not quite sure how to react to the one-armed hug. He didn't really understand why she did it, regardless, though it wasn't like he minded all too much.]

Hey, uh...it's okay. I don't even really remember that. And besides, I'm better now.

You're just still scared about going outside Union.

I am not! After all, I've gone outside the walls since then!

Yeah, you have. Twice.

[He makes a face at the Purrloin again before returning his attention to Hilda.]

But, really, Hilda! Don't worry about me!

Well, now we're together ... so I guess going and getting lost won't be as bad?

... Something tells me I should still be worried, though.

[ It was meant to be a joke, but it wasn't a very good one. ]

Yeah, so long as he doesn't forget food again.

[Aster's cheeks color slightly.]

H-hey! I'm not that bad, guys! I'm sure we'd be fine! I mean, even if I did forget the food, I'm sure Hilda won't forget...

[He does at least realize it is a joke on the other trainer's part.]

I think I remember food pretty easily ...

[ She laughs a little. ]

The two of us are one giant mess, aren't we?

Good! I don't know about this guy, but I, at least, think food is pretty important.

I'll count on you for food, then, Hilda!

[He laughs in turn.]

Seems that way! But I think things will work out, either way!

Food is important! And actually, if we're going to be traveling together like this, it's probably a good idea for each of us to be in charge of certain things. I can be in charge of food, you can be in charge of navigation ... stuff like that?

That's a good idea! I have a few maps that I get for my research, so I'll make sure to bring them. I've always been pretty good at seeing in the dark, too, so if it's nighttime, navigation won't be too difficult. I'll also look into purchasing some star maps, too!

It might not be a bad idea to get some extra blankets and sleeping bags, as well. The ones I have are old, extra ones from my parents' time. Anything else you can think of?

Ah, yeah ... we can probably spare some money for decent camping supplies.

[ This is exciting! ]

I have a pretty good set myself. If you need the help, I can pitch in a little to help you get a better set?

[He shrugs with a smile.]

Only if you want to! I have a decent supply of extra money from my research work, so cost isn't a question at this point. I always meant to purchase some excellent supplies for my field studies, after all!

[He is totally psyched about it, too. His grin spreads and it is a bit difficult for him to contain his own excitement.]

Shall we go gather some supplies now and we can plan our first expedition?

Absolutely!

[ And then she sneezed again. She sighs. ]

Maybe getting somewhere out of the pollen is a good idea, too ...

Right. We don't want you to sneeze all your brains out, now, do we?

[The blonde says this with a wink before starting to head off in the direction the Business District.]

Come on, Hilda!

[ Hilda follows behind, taking out her handkerchief again and blowing her nose into it. ]

On my way ...

[ Ugh. Allergies. Poor girl was miserable. ]

[Aster wishes there was something he could do to help, but alas there was nothing he could think of! At least Braea wasn't trying to antagonize their allergies again...]

[Yet, anyway. It was only a matter of time.]

[Either way, he makes his way toward The Outpost to purchase some camping supplies. He sneezes a couple types before arriving, however. Braea is amused.]

[ Braea would be amused. She is glad for the break from the pollen once they get into the outpost, even if some of the residual pollen was still in there. She could at least get close to being able to breathe in here. ]

Mkay, camping supplies ...

There's some pretty high-end ones here that are nice, but they're a bit out of my budget for the time being. Then there's these other nice-looking sleeping bags, here, and a tent!

[He points out another set of camping supplies that had caught his eye and moves to look over the set.]

This one looks pretty nice. What do you think? See any that you particularly like?

The one you're looking at seems really nice, actually. The only thing I really don't have is a tent from my camping supplies, so the tent would really come in handy ...

That settles it, then!

[Aster grabs the set and stumbles over with it to pay for the supplies. He nearly trips and falls over himself along the way, but manages to right himself thanks to the tent.]

And done! It'll be nice to have a slightly more protective sleeping environment, for sure!

You might want to be careful with how you're holding that, it'll do neither of us any good if you trip and fall.

Hehe, you're right, sorry.

[Aster straightens himself and repositions his grip on the supplies. He pays for the stuff and returns.]

Let's take this stuff back home, then!
