Book 002 [Video]
Union?
[It was a rare day when Waver Velvet addressed the public of Union as a whole, but this day something about him seemed off. He seemed more bothered, more irritable than normal-- not that the little Nincada that was sitting on his head seemed to care. It drummed it's little feet happily on Waver's head, glad to be there for it's trainer in this strange time.
Heaving a sigh, Waver continued:]
Let's take a poll. Who here has been having weird dreams for the last couple of days? I need to know for academic reasons.
[...And, that was all. Waver scratched his cheek, feeling awkward and embarrassed about this entire problem that he was having.]
Don't worry about when you reply. I don't think I'll be getting to sleep any time soon.
[And, with that, the feed abruptly shut off.
Respond, Union?]

She hadn't wanted to talk about them, least of all publicly until she was more certain that they weren't some bizarre anxiety manifestation, but... this was Waver.
And also being from Sanctuary, she should know better than to pay attention to signs. So a response it is.]
... so it's happening to you as well, then?
no subject
[Irritable from lack of sleep, his tone came out as snappish-- and he quickly took a breath to remedy this.]
...That's a yes, and it sounds like you are too.
Do you want to meet somewhere private? We don't have to talk about it like this.
no subject
[Sorry, Waver. A seemingly "random" question like that, cloaked with the intent of research? He wasn't as subtle as he thought he was. Or she had just been hanging around him too much.
In any case, it definitely wasn't something she wanted to speak about over the network, so she's relieved at his response.]
Are you at the office? I could pick up some coffee on my way over, unless you'd like to meet somewhere else.
no subject
The office is fine, Raine. I haven't left yet-- too much documenting to do about what happened out there. Which...is fine. It's not like sleep is happening anyway.
I'd be grateful for the coffee, too, but don't go out of your way to get it.
no subject
[Code for, sleep isn't happening any time soon for her either, and it's easier to focus on the potential needs of others. Hopefully the lines won't be bad.]
no subject
[He wasn't going to need anything in his coffee that night. The strong, bitter taste of it would hopefully keep him awake enough to keep the dreams away...]
no subject
[Raine turns off the feed, and heads to pick up that coffee. And a couple of danishes as an afterthought. The lines are unfortunately a little longer, putting her arrival at least fifteen minutes later than she wanted, and knocking at his office door when she gets there.]
Waver? We're here.
['We' being Raine and her Eevee companion, who doesn't often go out and about with her, but was being a little more clingy than usual.]
no subject
'Sorry, cutie,' he said to the Eevee. 'The Mageling's made a mess in there.'
Indeed, upon fully opening the door, Raine would find Waver surrounded by a mess of books and paperwork from seemingly unknown sources. Some appeared to be scaveneged from the public library. Others still seemed like he had borrowed them directly from the various residents of Ninetales Vale-- and whether he was going to return them at all was a question that none may ever be able to answer.]

[Raine steps inside after surveying the disaster zone, carefully balancing the coffees and... looking for a safe space on a desk to put them. She isn't one to judge, as she's often found herself in the midst of a tornado of study materials. Once that's secured, the Eevee quietly pads down to the floor from her shoulder to join the small foongus.
'Those books are going to eat them...' Lia mumbles to Orpheus after surveying the cluttered area, still a little timid from the trip over. This was fine. Being around too many people outside, not so much.]

[Waver was a little too thorough in his notes at times-- it was a curse brought on by his skills as an Analyst and his understanding as a Magus. He couldn't help but jot down every detail he saw, in case it came in handy for some unknown scholar in the future.
He gratefully took a sip from one of the cups and started shoving books off of a nearby chair.]
Here, [He said,] It's not often I get visitors here.
['Probably because the books made a snack of them,' Orpheus muttered, before casting a joking grin at the Eevee. He teases, of course, but sometimes this human was ridiculous.]
no subject
[She gratefully takes the offered chair once it's cleared. She might not be sleeping any time soon, but that didn't mean that there weren't other effects of tiredness.]
Thank you. [A pause, as she reaches for her own coffee cup.] Have you been able to pick up on any patterns so far?
[She had some of her own observations, but admittedly the dreams had come at a weird time for her, so his question helped her put it into more perspective.
Lia's ears twitch faintly in amusement at Orpheus's joke, before the little eevee shakes her head. Strangely enough it was the most relaxed the pokemon was in weeks, now that Raine was no longer making trips to scary Gigas and leaving her behind. "What do they see in books anyway? They're too inky and rustly and hurt if too many fall on you."]

There was no way he could admit that half of the documentation he was doing for the Rangers wasn't even necessary. They were simply notes that he felt were pertinent, and he didn't want to leave anyone at a disadvantage if they ran into similar situations in the future.]
Unfortunately, I haven't found too much. The people who are having these problems so far are people who typically don't. Only one person I've spoken to I've confirmed to be somewhat clairvoyant, but his usual style is very different from this.
[He shrugged, not even certain if his data would be helpful on this subject.]
What about you? What have you noticed?
[Orpheus just shook his head while the two humans talked about their 'data' and their 'research,' content to just leave things be at this point. "Who knows? Maybe their reasons are the same as why a Wooper likes mud."
That is, they just liked it. No reason necessary.]
no subject
She nods, taking a sip of the coffee.]
The library has been receiving an increase in requests for books on how to handle scared pokemon, not even including the sudden abra population. There has been a lot of activity around the shrine in Ninetales Vale... an influx in visitors, although you've made it apparent that these dreams seem to be reaching beyond what would be anticipated from the community there.
[She pauses. That data didn't seem particularly helpful either, but it certainly added more to the scope of how large a picture they were looking at.] My absol has been very agitated as well, more than usual... what about your Cassandra?
[Lia finds a clear spot on the floor to settle on, yawning and slowly putting her head down on her front paws. "You're right. At least it keeps them from going out and getting into trouble... sometimes." Even if those books are definitely going to eat them one day. Definitely.]
no subject
Yeah, Cass has been picking up something, [he said,] So has my Xatu and the Ralts I bonded with recently. Seems like Psychic-types, or those with some sensitivity to such messages, are getting the brunt of it right now.
no subject
[She frowns. It still doesn't give them information on the how or why.] Right now it's unsettling, but there's also no context for it. A warning to not get so comfortable even after the war, perhaps...? But a disturbance of this level would have to be caused by something. Or some one.
no subject
[After the debacle with the whole of Union being attacked by a dragon in the middle of winter, Waver wasn't inclined to say such things lightly. He wasn't superstitious, but referencing a previous disaster that had struck his new home felt like an ill omen.]
I'm hoping things come to light quickly-- working like this fr too long is a quick way to get burned out. And, after that fight we just had, none of us can really take that sort of strain.
no subject
Hopefully those with more ability to "deduce" what they might indicate are already on the case. Something causing these sorts of ripples won't possibly stay hidden for long, unless the whole point is to make us sleep poorly and be off our guard for an extended period of time. [Which she doubted, it was a very bad attempt to lighten things.] Although, I wonder if there's been some sort of precedent in regard to this kind of situation before...
[Nothing was immediately springing to her mind from the archives, but it had been a while since she had combed through for specific things and she was very tired. Hmm.]
