Soulfasting Mingle
Who: EVERYONE
What: Soul Fast
When: During Soul Fast
Where: All over Ninetails Vale and in people's houses, etc.
Summary: The Celebrations of Soul Fast Begin!
It's that time of year again, and all throughout Union and in particular the Ninetales Vale, celebrations are beginning. A festival celebrating the passage of another year, of remembering and honoring the dead, and of placating particularly violent spirits has begun. Soulfasting, an old Union tradition, is one of the most popular holidays celebrated, with the Ninetales Vale being overrun with people of all ages.
Children scamper through the streets of the Vale in masks and costumes, begging for candy, while surly teenagers do the same and occasionally play pranks, and adults celebrate in a variety of fashions. Elaborate, highly fashionable costumes are all the rage, and even the nobility slips out into the Vale for a bit of fun. It's not exactly a popular destination most of the year, given the high concentrations of Dark and Ghost-types but during the festival it's most definitely in vogue and teeming with people all happy to help revitalize the area for a week.
The sounds of music drift through the air, celebratory tunes, dirges, jigs, and tunes for all ages. From the Kurain school on it's hill overlooking most of the Vale, a pipe organ solemnly plays out traditional tunes, and is surprisingly cheery for a ghost school. Across the neighborhood on another hill, Hikawa Shrine has it's doors wide open to welcome visitors, with decorations of all sorts set out.
Games are set up at both locations, including Apple Bobbing, Ducklett Pond raffles, and Pin the Scroll on the Spiritomb, though there are others set up all over the Vale's plazas. Skeeball, Target Shooting, Bell-and-Hammer games, and perhaps most strangely a “Whack-the-Diglett” that's been possessed by one of the local ghosts to give the little wooden Digletts faces all hideously angry ones. Eating contests, Pokemon Battle Circles, a Haunted House (with real ghosts!) and dozens and dozens of fortune telling stands all further add to a carnival atmosphere that even the dead can enjoy!
Lanterns and faux Spinarak webs hang from every lamppost and awning, and food stalls line the streets as vendors ply their wares. Food from all over is available, and it all seems to come together around a central square between the two hills. A stage has been set up, with musicians from all over the known world called in to show their stuff. There are dance tunes from Caldera, Union Pop and Jazz songs at work, setting crowds on fire. Sanctuary has sent a full orchestra to play various classical pieces, while Citadel's famous woodwinds and tribal drums surprise and delight. And towards the end of the day, a band from Glacier comes on stage. Their music starts out slow and ambient, but after a few sets they set up electric guitars and the gloves come off. A folk metal concert, complete with an armored warrior-woman doing the vocals and several of the soldiers from the battle weeks prior (some still bandaged) backing her up. It might be a bit shocking, but some of the youth are definitely getting into it...
And then night falls, and the party atmosphere becomes a little quieter. Plays, family meals, Ghost-story tellings, and more subdued activities become the norm though there's still a contingent of rowdies at the heart of the celebration. It's then that the ghosts really come out to play, slipping through walls to greet relatives or tease revelers. For the most part they seem friendly but not always. As usual, some specters of ill-repute have slipped in among the friendly ones, and they're making trouble. Good thing you have a Warp Band to call an exorcist, right?
((OOC: This is a general mingle log, feel free to put up your own top levels and tag around! Welcome to Soulfasting, everyone! We hope you enjoy =D ))

And two Soulfasting masks, of course, each pinned on either side of his head. Because one can never be too careful around ghosts! These change often. How many masks does this guy have?!
The young, mismatching lad is also more than a bit nosy, and can be found hovering--sometimes literally--behind people at an uncomfortable distance, not quite asking what they are doing verbally, but genuinely curious. He also seems to have a thing for food, and can be found making rounds among the food stands, equipped with a bottomless pit of a stomach. ]

Who's that Pokemon?! It's Ninetai-- Ahri! [OPEN!]
Over all, her, the Umbreon and the Duskull all enjoyed as much of the environment as possible for as long as it would last! You might even catch them taking a nap at one of the corners of the vale where she now felt more at ease now that she was a Ninetails.
is ahri in her ninetails form?
All of you seem to of enjoyed yourselves today at the festival.
Not AS a Ninetails, but you can tell she's changed! Her tails give her away for sure!
awesome, i was just wondering

Morgiana stood outside the door to Chie's room, talking through it. Chie was still hiding from ghosts, and as much as Morgiana wanted to make her feel safe, she also really wanted to go to the Soulfasting festival down in the Vale.
"I understand that they're spooky to you, but you seriously can't expect to stay in there ALL week long. Aren't you getting bored?
[OPEN]
Eventually, she found her way down there. Either by talking Chie into coming, or by having Gultas stand guard for her for a few hours. She had always been an outdoors kind of person, after all. She had on a kind of generic monster mask in deference to the holiday, but anyone who knew her would have little trouble recognizing her. As she wandered the grounds, the strange throbbing noise slowly grew in volume until eventually she realized that it was, in fact, music. A strange kind of music she had never heard before, that was apparently from Glacier.
At first she was mainly curious, but when she actually got there her heart leaped. She saw a crowd of people in front of the stage, doing what she could only describe (because she had never heard the words "Mosh pit") as a combination of dancing and brawling. Morgiana immediately knew she had to be there. She drifted down towards the crowd and in relatively short order she was jumping and shoving and screaming along with everyone else in the crowd. It looked violent from the outside, but when you were in the midst of it, you only had to look at anyone else's face to see that everyone was in high spirits, with shining eyes and open grins. There was nothing malicious about any of it.
[LATER. STILL OPEN]
Eventually, she had had her fill. Ears ringing from the sheer volume of the music, Morgiana made her way towards food. She made her way towards a booth selling some kind of soup that smelled spicy and delicious. Probably Calderan. She didn't care.
She sat down at a bench, possibly next to YOU, fellow character, lifted her mask so she could blow on her soup a few times, then started eating.
second prompt!
[ The crowd is really getting into this "mosh pit" phenomenon! So much so that some of the shorter members thereof have been hoisted up and are being floated across the top of the crowd, everyone's hands clamoring to keep them aloft.
Such a fate has befallen a small boy in a Magikarp mask. Who has dropped his Litwick plushie right at Morgiana's feet. ] Ah- could you -
[ He makes a grab for it, but already he's "floating" away. ]

[ Tests of strength usually aren't Sanger's thing. He knows his own strength by now, and while physical conditioning is about seventy percent of martial arts, he doesn't feel the need to show it off outside of martial arts.
But then one of the stall keepers had taunted him, and that's just not done. ]
You really should have bothered somebody else, good sir.
[ Taking a hold of the huge, if not especially dangerous, mallet in one hand, the Sword that Smites Evil struck almost lazily. A one-armed swing without even having the decency to take a stance.
The machine didn't stand a chance. ]
Hm. Breaking it was a mistake, but I believe I technically got the bell to ring.
[ A minor argument that got settled by Sanger standing there and looking vaguely threatening later, he can be found carrying a huge plush Charmander around. He's considering if he should keep it. ]
The other game
[ Sanger's playing Whack-a-Diglett now. He is the Sword that Smites Evil, exorcising ghosts is just part of his job.
But now he's holding a tiny mallet, and trying not to accidentally smash the whole machine in his enthusiasm. His sword arm is still incredibly fast though, a blur of motion as quick eyes and quick hands bopped wooden mole Pokemon after mole Pokemon.
It actually looks rather ridiculous, but he's racking up a high score at least. Hopefully no ghosts get mad and jump him for beating on them too much. ]
Strongman
Goodness, you certainly have a strong set of arms on you.

[If you happen by Hikawa Shrine during the festivities at any point, you cannot possibly miss Rei Hino. She and a veritable army of Pokemon are all there, tending to various things. Traditional games, a few Ghost-Type shadow plays, food of all types...
And fortune telling of course. Rei, working with her grandfather, is taking the time to talk to people who are curious, leaving her Xatu and Beheeyem in charge when Grandpa Hino is busy. Every single visitor is approached with a smile and a polite bow.]
Welcome to Hikawa Shrine. I'm glad you could make it. Have you come to have your fortune told? Or are you here for something else?
B: Who you Gonna Call!
[And when night rolls around, Rei is in for the busiest week of her year. Soulfasting is when the ghosts come out to play, and sometimes they're out for trouble too. It's her duty to deal with troublemakers, and she's got her Warp Band on and ready. IF you have ghost problems? Hit her up!
Alternatively, you might find her charging through the streets on the back of her Arcanine!]
Sorry, I'm in a hurry! Ghosts on the loose!

[It was a but much, but honestly, it hadn't taken much for her to adjust the kimono into the mismagius costume. She was tasked with passing out candy to children at the shrine (though she had to stop herself more than once on lecturing about not eating so much as to cause a stomach ache).
As the day went on, she even got a little more playful, lurking around corners and leaving little trails for the children to follow for their treats. She made soft noises, using her lyre to add to the atmosphere. Hiding in the shadows, she'd stealthily come to their shoulder and softly ask:]
Have you come for a treat, my dear?
[Evening at Hikawa Shrine]
[With most of the children home to enjoy private soulfasting rituals, Ami pulled off the hat and gave a soft sigh as she wiped her brow. She looked up at some of the last few stragglers at the shrine and offered a smile.]
How can I help you?

A:
[It's game time! Teddie's off to test his skill in every game available, so come and be amazed (or disappointed) by this bear. First off, Pin the Scroll on the Spiritomb! It's a simple task that any cub can accomplish, even when they're blindfolded and dizzy. At least, that's what Teddie thought. After he's been spun around a couple of times, he's pretty sure he's stumbling in the right direction where the cutout of a Spiritomb is, paw raised with the pin ready.] I got it, I got it! [Unfortunately, he's going in the wrong direction and attempts to pin the scroll onto the nearest person.]
B:
[Food, food, and more food! Teddie's stuffing his face to the fullest with cuisines from a variety of stalls and a bucket full of candy. His Pidgey takes it upon himself to join in on the feast, but just can't consume at the insane rate of his bear of a trainer. He's like a black hole. Seriously, where is that all going?]
C:
[Nighttime would be a whole lot more fun if Teddie wasn't getting scared out of his own fur by some playful ghosts to the point where he jumps at the slightest noise in the darkness. So, the best thing he could do is attempt to hide until the coast was clear. He'd dart between stalls, duck behind bushes or trash cans, and overall tried to avoid any sort of ghost Pokemon. He's trying to be inconspicuous, but as a Cubchoo of his size, it's rather difficult to pull off.]

[It was the Mageling's first Soulfast, and Waver wasn't too certain what to make of it. Though he had read up on the traditions of the holiday during one of his many excursions in the Library, it hadn't prepared him for the real deal. He can be found in Ninetales Vale staring at the complexity and detail that went into the decorations....if only because it gave him an excuse to forget about the costume that a certain Fairy-type had shoved him in to. Occassionally he could also be found tugging at the costume, muttering his complaints under his breath.] ....Not sure if this was just an excuse to get me in shorts and bobby socks or not...
[He could also be found chasing after his own tail in a vain attempt to keep it from knocking anything over....and knocking everything over in the process.]
B
[If there was one place that Waver was wary of stepping into, it was the Haunted Houses. The dark interiors were unnerving enough on their own, and the Ghost-types that had been found to help in the escapade didn't help matters.
Ghosts unnerved him more than the dark. He couldn't get over it too easily.
....someone give him a nudge inside?]
C
[Waver will be clinging to the nearest person passing by as night started to fall, hanging onto their arm for dear life and jumping every time a leaf whispered it's way across the sidewalk.
He just wanted to go home, darn it! Though he was sure that the family he was staying with had other plans, he didn't care-- he just didn't want to be out on the streets!
Someone might want to take the poor Umbreon cosplayer in for the night, before the ghosts get him.]
Bonus: Mushroom Time
[If it was a festival, there was no doubting that Orpheus the Foongus would be out somewhere in the midst of it, dodging footsteps and sampling any bite of food that people would offer him. This was his sort of scene-- especially with all the games!
Bobbing for Apples? Playing Skeeball? Have a mushroom getting in your way. He just wants to be a part of the fun!]
A
[Feliks, dressed up in a Sylveon costume (what else?), grins at him and munches on some of his candy haul. Ah, there are advantages to looking so young...]

[ Maeve and Ceilto had unexpectedly and rather quickly hit the road, leaving what little staff left to man the booth. Meaning Lux, acting as one of the most senior members, got the short end of the stick. Their booth nestled in one of the busier areas of Ninetales Vale, they were surprisingly dead, no pun intended, when it came to business.
She had picked out the materials herself, make sure everything looked nice and that the artifacts they did show off were interesting and properly labeled, and yet somehow no one seemed interested. It was frustrating, really. Cheek rested on her hand, the blond resorted to people watching, perking up a bit when someone happened walk by, only to very visibly deflate when they kept going. Tabling was hard.
Someone had to at least be somewhat interested, right? Who needed made up ghost stories, she had real ones right here! And legends about the gods! Come on, people, you should be lining up by now! ]
This stinks...
[OTA | PRODIGAL EXPLORER]
[ Soulfasting was one of her favorite holidays, and while working the Seekers booth was a bit of a drag, she was still able to find time to sneak away. Making her way toward the Prodigal Explorer booth, she did her best to try to be sneaky. Ezreal had since learned how to pick up on her cloaking, so she would have to rely upon more conventional methods to sneak up on him.
Thankfully, Ruby was more than happy to lend a bit of her foxfire to the cause, summoning a few blue flames to hover near the blond. Putting on her Froslass mask, she stalked toward the booth. To a casual observer, she might look like a bit of a ghost herself, her skin pale and glowing gently, her hair practically white and ethereal. She certainly looked the part ]

Her outfit is unique to boot, only the skirt covers her legs completely and a regular Drifloon mask is on her head with her braided hair. Her ears wiggle with purple sparkles every now and then, making this small parade as lovely as possible!]
Ghost parade, ghost parade~ Little baby Snicker shall lead this spooky parade~ Every spirit can join, new and old! Past and present!
[Even with just one Ghost pokemon among her team, she is having fun and everyone should too!]

[ If it's any consolation, he has a ghost-type mask on, so at least he's in the same ballpark. Lulu may appreciate the absolute sensory overload that is this newcomer's outfit. It was as if he woke up wanting to be every color of the rainbow. ]

hope you don't mind the same kid a couple places! i liked both your post and this
Are you a Ghost-type? [ He doesn't appear scared though, just curious. He lifts the hand that isn't holding his Litwick plushie but doesn't take any candy just yet. ]

She mostly, however, ponders a single quandary.
"If you dress up as a Ghost-type to get candy, and I am a Ghost-type, and dressed as myself, should I ask for candy...?"
She doesn't even like sweets that much, but this is going to bother her until someone explains it one way or the other.

The great thing about looking so very young is that hardly anyone bats an eye when he runs around begging for candy -- which he does, without the slightest trace of shame. Free sweets are free sweets, don't judge him!
He's not all about the taking, though. Throughout the afternoon, he turns up at various friends' houses, cutely-wrapped packages of homemade desserts in hand -- and any kid he runs into can expect a "think fast!" and a snack lobbed lightly in the direction of their head.
[B]
The Vale is the place to be today -- even in spite of all the strangers around, Feliks is excited to be there, wandering around and taking in the sight of all the decorations and costumes as he snacks his way through all the candy he begged earlier. If he sees any particularly good costumes, he runs up to the people wearing them, glimmering excitedly.
"Savior, I love that. You totally have to tell me where you got it!"
[C]
In line for the Haunted House, Feliks is passing the time by laughing at the people coming out. Schadenfreude is a beautiful thing, at least until he gets in there himself.
"Okay, but did you see that last guy's face? Seriously priceless. He looked like he was gonna faint or something!"
[D]
Later in the evening, he finds himself at the edge of a campfire, sipping a warm drink as he huddles for warmth with his Sylveon and a large Houndoom.
"So, like, who here knows some totally wicked ghost stories or whatever?"
[D]
His hand shot up, and the young man bobbed to and fro. Sitting cross-legged, a plate of food in his lap, he practically glowed in the firelight.

Intriguing, some things never change. This seems to be exciting for all, even the small one, isn't it?

Yukiko, Closed.
[Yukiko wasn’t going to let Soulfasting go by without spending a day with her girlfriend. That wasn’t how these things went. Sure she had to take care of Chie a bit but this year Morgiana could also handle her bestie when she was being a big baby about a few ghosts. And that freed up Yukiko’s schedule quite a lot.
So, she’d arranged a meeting with Fuuka via Warp Band, and at the appointed time at the entrance to the Ninetales Vale, Yukiko sat waiting with her new Phantump Nemesis practically bouncing with energy. Soulfasting sounded like so much fun! When Fuuka arrived, the young Seeker hopped up and ran over, immediately reaching for her hand.]
Hey! You made it!

While it took her a while to find the raven haired girl, it didn't take long for Fuuka to spot her. In fact, when she finally did, she just giggled before running over to her with a big smile on her face]
Of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world! I hope I didn't keep you waiting for long though!

OTA
[Maka is trying out some of the games, strangely enough, no books in her hand and no attempts to hide from social interaction. She's even wearing a costume to match the tiny Pumpkaboo at her side. Though she tried a little bit of everything, she ended up stopping at the Whack-the-Diglett and sort of...leaning over to address the ghost possessing it.]
Come on, you can't stay in there all night, you're going to scare the kids.
[B]
[The eating contest is for humans and not for Pokemon, at least that's what Maka is trying to tell Wilbur the garbage disposal Tepig over and over again. "No, no, it's a great idea! You enter yourself and I'll eat everything for you!" Wilbur replies.]
Wilbur, that's cheating!
[C]
[Family meals. Right. The only biological family Maka has in Union is her father, and she's done all she could to make sure he hasn't seen her. Maka definitely doesn't want to see his stupid drunken revelry and his flirting with women, whatever the case. As far as she's concerned, sticking around the Hikawa Shrine is spending time with family, even the ghosts coming out to nudge at her are weird little family members.]
Watch it, I'll call Rei if you keep doing that.
[It stops and Maka's able to eat her pastry in peace. Though it does occur to her that it looks like she's talking to herself to some people, so any passersby she gives an apologetic smile to and shrugs.]
Sorry, the ghosts are still active.

[What in the name of the Holy Seer? Vin has seen free food at festivals before, but... never quite this much. She half expects some guards to yell at her and tell her to get lost. She stares down at one table of food for a moment, before she grabs two handfuls of rolls and stuffs them into her pockets.]
[She's gonna save them. And when other people run out of food, she'll have kept some. And... and people better not stare. Vin coughs, then grabs a fruit, and bites into it.]
[Dinner rolls are still sticking out of her trouser pockets. Some habits die hard; some habits, she has never tried to break. It seems like a good way to mark her first day in Union. And the last day of Soulfasting.]
