A Well Earned Celebration

[The battle was over and the god Reshiram defeated, driven away by the aid of Union and its allies. The city was safe, by and large, and as the news spread throughout the peoples of the tundra, they began streaming back into the settlement in droves. Dirty, ash-coated faces were filled with relief and gratitude when they saw that it wasn't just a rumor and that their home had indeed been spared. Not everyone was so lucky, but they'd weathered worse, of course. The people of Glacier endured, as they would always endure, and they were also a people that repaid their debts. And they most certainly all agreed that they owed their rescuers a debt.

So, as night fell after the battle, a great celebration was prepared in the center of Glacier. A wide square was cleared away in a matter of hours, and the people gathered what they could in a show of thanks. Tables of food, bonfires towering into the night sky to keep out the autumn chill, and throngs of cheering wellwishers lined the area. Warriors of glacier, men carrying swords and women all bearing axes offered enthusiastic handshakes and claps on the back. Music of all kinds was played, though tribal tunes full of horn and percussion, chanting and yodeling, and even some brass groups dominated the soundscape.

A platform for various elders was set up, and they offered speeches, of course...but those were somehow dwarfed by the presence of the divine beings that were waiting silently for the proceedings to end. Some of the gods that had come to the aid of the war parties had apparently decided to stay, though their reasons were as mysterious as they themselves. The humans would have their time, and the Servants would mingle freely throughout the evening.

Food, of course, is set out in piles. Meat, fish, arctic berries, and various pastries and the like line table after table. A smorgasbord of Glacier specialties, each with a new and unique flavor all their own, and some (such as the stew) possessing a smell that only a native could probably endure. Akutaq in particular seems to stand out among the worst offenders, but the Glacier natives seem rather fond of it, and offer it to their rescuers with great gusto.

And the rewards do not stop at simple meals. either. As the speeches begin to wind down, a woman some might find familiar walks up onto the stage carrying a singularly massive trunk and dropping it down onto the wood with a heavy thud.]

Southerners! You have done a great deed this day! We, the people of Glacier, would like to thank you and honor your sacrifice! Few would do as you have done, coming to the aide of strangers against the might of that dragon...and you have accomplished something we did not think possible. To that end, we would like to present you with the first of many gifts, a token of our gratitude and a promise that should you need it, we will come to your defense in a time of need!

[And then with a sharp kick, she cracks open the trunk and reveals a veritable treasure trove of three different stones to be distributed by her subordinates.]

Rest well, and enjoy the festivities! You are welcome here, for as long as you like! Eat, drink, and be merry within our halls!

[Michiru nods, making a mental note of all of it.]

And no flying, right?

[not if Ami is recommending wrapping it up and wing rest. But between Michiru's innocent tone and Nocturne's sudden slouch at the words, it looks like Michiru wants to make this point crystal clear to the Pokemon.]

[Ami put a firm finger on Nocturne's nose.]

Absolutely none. Not unless you want to possibly tear the muscles from all the strain and stretching! [She eased up though.] I know it will seem hard, but the more rest you allow it to have, the faster it will heal and you'll be soaring again in no time. But for that to happen, you can't fly until I give you a clean bill of health.

[Nocturne flinches and as Ami speaks, her head starts drooping until her eyes are below Ami's. She's also folding her wing back so to present a smaller target.

Michiru steps up, placing a hand on Nocturne's ruff. The Pokemon gets a reassuring smile.] See? There's a good reason for it. Ami just wants you to get better faster.

I'm sorry that you won't be able to fly for a bit, Nocturne, but it is as Michiru-san, says. If you like, though, I can at least give you a berry to help with the muscle ache.

[Nocturne isn't the most talkative of Pokemon, so Michiru just nods.] We'll take it, just in case.

Thank you, Ami. [it takes a moment for Nocturne to make up her mind, but the Pokemon eventually nods at that.]

[Ami opened up her bag and pulled out a Berry, handing it to Michiru to inspect.]

No berry allergies, I hope?

No, none at all.

[she inspects it, noting down the type of berry so she can buy it herself later, and then turns to the Pokemon.]

Does it hurt now? [after a moment of silent communication, Michiru holds open her palm and Nocturne gently picks it up and eats it.] There. Now get some rest.

[the Pokemon sits back down, hoping that maybe the spotlight is off of her now.

And Michiru turns back to Ami.] How did you fare in the fight?

As well as could be expected against a god. My typing worked in my favor, as I'm sure yours did as well. Rei, being immune to fire was... certainly at the forefront of things. We didn't lose anyone and sustained only minor injuries. Most things worked in our favor as I have water typing, Rei has fire, and the other to in our party had fairy typing. It's a good thing I thought to bring Socrates.

But... the Enlightened he was with? He escaped... and I have incredibly troubling news.

[Michiru nods as she listens. She figured as much, but it's good to get confirmation that you two are okay. They had a bit more back and forth than she'd like to admit, but it seems like everybody had settled into the idea that talking first was a good idea.

...that doesn't sound good.]

Yes?

The Enlightened was a level 100, nothing I've ever seen before, and he was bonded to Reshiram. Nothing good can come of that... but... perhaps it is best if we discuss this with everyone.

[her tone is just dry] We learned that they were bonded when we attacked the human and the god objected vehemently.

[not the best move they could've done]

Level 100...

I suppose it's high time to start working harder.

... Alternatively, he said nothing when we attacked Reshiram and left him be... [She frowned.] Perhaps... perhaps we can use that and show Reshiram that his Bonded doesn't care about him. The Enlightened did absolutely nothing, what a disgrace.

[huh. She hadn't thought of it that way. She figured there was some deception going on in that particular relationship, but hadn't gotten further than that.]

You're right. I doubt any of us would just stand idly by when our Pokemon are getting pummeled like that.

Then we must show him the consequences of his actions, and hope to show Reshiram that the deception of the Enlightened is on him and not something of all bonded.

[musingly:] If he'll listen to his attackers.

[for once though, talking didn't work.] Of course, as we saw, the gods aren't infallible. [getting duped is apparently a thing]

We must do what we can to make him listen, then. Besides, we were defending ourselves against an attack he initiated with his Enlightened. We deserve the right to make our side known, though if what the other gods said is true, he won't listen regardless. He seeks a world without us in it, and will do what he can to make sure that it stays that way.

[even if Reshiram doesn't listen, people will try regardless. At least she'll be there for backup.]

Do you think they'll turn on each other if they manage to accomplish their task? [Reshiram's defense of his human had seemed passionate]

The Enlightened might not turn on Reshiram, but Reshiram may well turn on the Enlightened. Still, I don't want to even give them that chance. The Enlightened must be brought to task for his crimes.

The people of Glacier would probably agree.

[too bad tracking them after the fight wasn't really an option.] I suppose we'll be looking into their organization, then.

We had to fight another female Enlightened in addition to the one bonded with Reshiram. Did you fight anyone other than the bonded with Reshiram?

[Michiru nods]

There were two others before this. They had what appeared to be two Mega Evolved Charizards as well as another Fire type that almost looked like a Zoroark.

[strong bonds with their Pokemon doesn't necessarily preclude sanity] They were burning out houses.

I wonder if they have any connection to Team Evolution... I wish we could have captured one for questioning.

[a bit dryly, but she's teasing just a little.] Then it would've been too easy.

[more seriously though] From what the human said, I would assume any relationship between them would be rivalry at best.

[re: that thing with pokeballs vs bonding]

They aren't much better than them, in any case. Though Team Evolution isn't trying to destroy the world.

Perhaps another conversation at the shrine? With all of us?

[and here's a smile] I think that would be best.

We need to figure out our next move. [there's a subtle emphasis on 'we.' As if any partners who might be reluctant to work together will inexplicably show up anyway.]
