Soulfasting Concert for Charity

Summary: Lenna is hosting a charity event to benefit Union's poor and homeless population, along with refugees from war-torn communities outside Union's walls and people who are moving into the city but need some help while they get on their feet.  The entire city is invited, and donations are not required but are strongly encouraged in the form of Lenna smiling and making big moe eyes at everyone as they enter until they do.

[It's the beginning of the Soulfasting holiday, and despite the complications with Cresselia and Darkrai, Lenna has miraculously managed to pull together the final preparations for her charity event at the last minute.  The party itself is being held at the Tycoon mansion in the noble quarter, and the doors have been opened for any and all who wish to come and make merry.

The spacious foyer of the house has been set up with numerous tables with food and drink for the various attendees, plenty of room for dancing and mingling, and of course a large stage at the front of the room set up for Rin and Len Kagamine - Lenna's roommates and the headline performing act of the night.  There are donation boxes situated around the room, and Lenna will also be accepting larger donations personally so that she can secure them elsewhere in the house.

And because of the time of year, there is also a table set up with plenty of Pokemon-themed masks for people to wear, with a fancy sign hand written in calligraphy: 'Courtesy of the Tatsumi Gallery.'  Lenna herself is wearing a short red party dress with matching heels, greeting everyone as they enter and more or less just buzzing about making sure everyone is having a good time.]

[Then what is--she almost said, but, unlike their previous encounter, Lux was able to hold her tongue. Even the most innocent questions seemed to set her off, and despite herself, the blond was genuinely curious. The Du Couteau family were a very different sort, and she had the nasty habit of poking her nose into affairs that weren't her own.

She opened her mouth to say something, but thankfully, her polished turd of a boyfriend decided to speak for her. Of course, he always knew the perfect thing to say in every situation, and Lux shot him a dirty look.]

I'm sorry, I'm still trying to teach him manners after the last time. [Yes she's still mad you left her. Ass.] As hard-headed as an Aggron, this one. [She tries a laugh on for size. Yep. Still awkward. Lovely. He gets a heavy slap on the shoulder for his comment and for her fo-pah.]

Why aren't you dancing? You seem like you might be good at it. Would. Be good at it. [Gods, she usually wasn't so bad at this, what was going on? Maybe she was the one in need of a drink.]

[He hands Lux a wineglass]

[Honey? Wait, but that's--]

I could say the same of you. Dancing seems like something you'd be good at. [ Was that a compliment? Katarina lifts her glass to her lips again, only to gracefully hit her mouth with her hand.

She levels Ezreal with what just may be the most cock-eyed glare in existence. ]

You really enjoy pissing me off, don't you? [ She scoffs. ] You really could do better, Crownguard, and that's saying something.

[...You know what, actually, thank you, Ezreal. She was just starting to get thirsty. Something about the company. She takes the glass, takes a drink, then gives Katarina a good, long look.]

I don't need a Du Couteau, or anyone else, telling me whose company I should keep. I know what I have to do to be happy, instead of hiding behind a wine glass and making friends with the wall.

It's OK Lux, a lot of nobles like to look down their noses at us despite not actually doing anything of value for society. I know what I've accomplished and am proud of it. And as far as the dancing, well, you and I both know that there's no problem there either.

[ As far as Katarina's concerned, Ezreal is a non-entity at this point. His words fall on deaf ears as Katarina stares hard at Lux's face, a slow, dark grin lightly quirking up the corners of her mouth. ]

Is that hostility I'm sensing, Crownguard? Have I touched a nerve?

[ Katarina gives a bark of laughter. ] This wine glass and this wall have served me much better than anyone else here ever will. Your accomplishments mean nothing, your name means nothing, and your little boytoy over here means even less. I don't see why you insist on plaguing me with your presence when these conversations always end the same way.

[ She takes a deep breath, willing the heat in her face to subside. ] Now leave me be. Even I know that there's a time and place for our little spats, and a charity ball certainly isn't the correct arena for this dispute.

[ladyofluminosity]

[No. She would not let Katarina know that she got under her skin. That would be admitting defeat--and to a Du Couteau, at that. Her fingers twitch at her side, and the blond smiles sweetly, coldly.]

Never. You assume your words matter to me, or to anyone else. At the end of the day, light always shines through the dark. I don't care about names. You would do well to learn how to respect others despite them, instead of wallowing in your own dwindling self-importance, Katarina.

This is all well and good, ladies, but I think Lux and I have some dancing to get to. I'm sure Katarina will be fine here on her own drinking away her loneliness. Shall we?

[he offers his arm with a cocky grin]

[mid]

[ Katarina stares at Lux for a fair few moments, her drink momentarily forgotten. ]

It would seem the lady has some bite to her.

[ A pause. ]

I can drink to that. [ She smiles crookedly, raising her glass to Lux. She's rather impressed, in all honesty, though she'd never blatantly say it. She brings the glass to her lips before fixing Ezreal with a dispassionate stare. ]

By all means. I'd much rather be here with my loneliness than on the arm of some oaf who spends most of his time looking through antiquities. Don't you have some spelunking to do elsewhere?

Don't worry, that's for later tonight. You should try it sometime it might improve your disposition.

[ladyofluminosity]

He isn't--

[Lux slowly turns her head to look at the other blond, mouth open, looking both mortified and genuinely angry. You did not just.]

[ There's a long stretch of silence after Ez delivers his line as Katarina dead-eyes the both of them.

She says absolutely nothing as she sets her glass down on the table, shaking her head slowly as she (rather unsteadily) walks away from the two of them. She didn't make it a habit to keep a list of things that she didn't need to know, but she knew for a fact that what Ezreal had just told her had just landed a spot as the first item on said list. ]
