Soulfasting Concert for Charity

Summary: Lenna is hosting a charity event to benefit Union's poor and homeless population, along with refugees from war-torn communities outside Union's walls and people who are moving into the city but need some help while they get on their feet.  The entire city is invited, and donations are not required but are strongly encouraged in the form of Lenna smiling and making big moe eyes at everyone as they enter until they do.

[It's the beginning of the Soulfasting holiday, and despite the complications with Cresselia and Darkrai, Lenna has miraculously managed to pull together the final preparations for her charity event at the last minute.  The party itself is being held at the Tycoon mansion in the noble quarter, and the doors have been opened for any and all who wish to come and make merry.

The spacious foyer of the house has been set up with numerous tables with food and drink for the various attendees, plenty of room for dancing and mingling, and of course a large stage at the front of the room set up for Rin and Len Kagamine - Lenna's roommates and the headline performing act of the night.  There are donation boxes situated around the room, and Lenna will also be accepting larger donations personally so that she can secure them elsewhere in the house.

And because of the time of year, there is also a table set up with plenty of Pokemon-themed masks for people to wear, with a fancy sign hand written in calligraphy: 'Courtesy of the Tatsumi Gallery.'  Lenna herself is wearing a short red party dress with matching heels, greeting everyone as they enter and more or less just buzzing about making sure everyone is having a good time.]

Good. I'm not interrupting.

[ She offers Yakumo a hand, smiling. ] Would you like to do me the honor?

Uhm...

[Yakumo blinks, but like she always does, she goes along with it. Taking Haruka's hand, she stands up.]

Okay. But...what's you're name, sir?

[ooc: do me a favor and check her permissions would you?]

[[ ooc: done! Sorry I didn't grab that before tagging. ]]

[ Haruka grins, settling Yakumo comfortably against her into a dancing position. ] You don't dance with strangers?

[ That's really amusing. This girl is cute. ]

[ooc: Perfectly fine!]

[Yakumo goes along with it, falling into place easily with no complaints, reading the steps without trying. She does, however, frown slightly. Cute? Why is that funny?]

I...don't usually dance at all.

[Though she apparently has some skill...]

Then I lucked out. [ Haruka defaults to leading, sorry. Though she's quite impressed with your steps so far. Maybe she won't have to compensate for a dance partner this time.

The name rings quite a bell with Yakumo, as fond as she is of the theatre. It's a place she and her sister would go before Tenma started school, and a place Yakumo could go and sink into a corner to watch. And the concentration required to watch helped keep out the extra voices, even if she came with friends. In short, she recognizes the name. And she stumbles slightly, in her surprise, missing a step and over balancing. Whoops.

"Ah! I-It's...nice to meet you. My name is Yakumo Tsukamoto."

[ Whoops, there. Haruka tightens her hold on the girl's back, helping her find her balance again, but doesn't comment. On the tripping, anyway. ]

So it's true. [ She beams. ] Cute girls always have cute names to match.

I assume Haruka's known as an actress, yes, not an actor?

[psychicsister]

[Well now she's just embarrassed, not really knowing what to do. She doesn't stiffen up, she just turns a brilliant shade of pink. A famous actress, seeing her stumble like that, and calling her cute?!]

I...um...[Words! Why do you fail her!] You're very...ah...kind.

[Awkward girl is awkward. Very, very awkward, but still managing to follow the steps save that brief stumble.]

yep, they don't lie about her gender. she just happens to always get cast in male roles...

[ Awkward girl is very adorable, you mean. As long as Yakumo can keep up with the dance, however, Haruka won't try to slow down or anything.

Talking to new people is so strange now, though. Everyone has seen the gods, and yet they're all at a party. Well, in a way that's good. She doesn't want the rest of humanity getting caught up in her refusal to rewrite history. Bad enough she's finding allies where she didn't expect them. ] Are you doing anything for the holiday?

[ That's safe smalltalk. Hopefully. ]

[It is safe enough smalltalk, though the steady stream of thoughts about how adorable she is continues to make the young mind reader blush. Those are the easy thoughts to pick out, the ones that always jump out at her, and make her shy away from people.

But this is a famous actress, so...she doesn't run. And the fact that they're small talking helps.]

I-I'm going to the festival in Ninetales Vale. With a friend...

What about y-you?

[ Haruka tries not to let this shrug interrupt the dance. ] I need a new mask.

[ Who knows, maybe they'll see each other there. Her mind quiets after that, though, musing. She's worried about something but trying not to think about it. This isn't the time or the place.

Unconsciously, she pulls Yakumo just a little bit closer. ]

[psychicsister]

[It doesn't seem to, but something in Yakumo's demeanor changes too. A barely perceptible release of tension. People thinking about her honestly bothers her, as those thoughts tend to stick out like a sore thumb with the young psychic.]

Ah...I...just got this hat, this year.

[The Mismagius hat she's wearing, anyway.

Oh, and remember that tension that was gone? It comes crashing back when she's pulled in close. She's not used to people being so huggy with her, especially not other girls. At least, other girls that aren't her sis, so...this is new and she is all kinds of unsure.]

...sorry, too tight?

[ Way to read the atmosphere but not the reason, Haruka. (It's a really cool hat, though, incidentally.) She'll back off, mentally scolding herself for getting distracted by Mission stuff again.

This isn't awkward. Apologetic smile. ]

N-No.

[Yakumo smiles extremely awkwardly. She's not exactly a shy girl by nature, just quiet, and when she's not being talked over she's actually good at telling people what she wants.]

I'm just...not used to being held like that.

[ Haruka relaxes, trying to get them both into the swing of the dance again. These things aren't exactly common, no. And that's okay.

Maybe she should distract with useless historical trivia. She's accumulated an embarrassment of riches when it comes to the history of kissing anything that can be found in really terrible romance scripts interpersonal relations. ]

Dancing used to be one of the only forms of courtship where people had the privacy to talk. Couples focused just on each other, and that made it easier to block everyone else out.

[ She lifts an arm so Yakumo can twirl under it. ] Annoying restrictions, huh?

I…didn’t know that. [Yakumo twirls easily, gracefully even. Her recovery isn’t perfect, amateurish at best, but she doesn’t stumble at the last second at least.] But it makes sense. People back then…they were different.

[And not always in a good way.] It does sound troubling, though. Not being able to talk to your date. Though…um…[She has a sudden thought] Why…did you want to dance with me?

[ Haruka grins at that. You're pretty good on your feet, too, Skitty. ] Don't you think you're interesting?

Not...really. Not when compared to someone famous [Yakumo is nothing if not honest. She doesn't have issues with self worth, just with people placing her on some sort of pedestal for her looks, her talents, and her intelligence. Those things she does have, but there's more to her than those superficial snippets. And most people just push her into things without listening to what she actually wants.

Haruka? Is actually listening, for some reason.]

I'm just...sort of ordinary.

[actsmagnificent]

[ Haruka is definitely listening. And looking thoughtful, even if she can't say she follows the logic here that equates famous people automatically with being more interesting - talent does not guarantee personality. Some of the most esteemed Rhyhorn racers are real bores!

So she tosses Yakumo's comments around in her head a bit before replying. It doesn't sound like the girl's down on herself, per se, just... ] You're practical.

[psychicsister]

I'm a trainer. I have to be.

[It's an automatic answer, a bit of a mantra she's learned to live by. Also, there's the matter of Harima. She has to be practical around him, to ground him out somehow.]

[actsmagnificent]

[ Unexpected answer. Haruka lifts her chin a little. To answer your question from before, then: ] Maybe smart people interest me.

[psychicsister]

Well...I...will take that as a compliment then.

[Coloring slightly, because what are compliments...Yakumo nods all the same.]

Theater interests me. So...I think we're on similar pages.

[actsmagnificent]

[ Oh, hence the reaction to her name. More things make sense now. Haruka twirls Yakumo around the dance floor. ] Acting or watching?

[psychicsister]

Watching. [A faint laugh] I'm too quiet to act.

[actsmagnificent]

[ You're lucky she's not Michiru or you would have just been accused of calling her noisy. Haruka, however, takes these things in stride, grinning all the while. ] We're planning open auditions soon if you change your mind.
