[So, what's the first thing Rei does when she gets the video set up on her Warp Band is to
turn it on and study it skeptically. She doesn't really have a lot to say, but she figures that since she finally caved and got it upgraded at Grandpapa's insistence. She didn't want him to worry overmuch when she finally did decide to go outside Union, and that was simply the only reason she'd bothered with it at all.

There's a short cawwing sound, and a Murkrow lands on the girl's shoulder, nudging her with it's beak. Clearly it wants her to say something...and Rei gives the bird an exasperated look.]

Oh alright...[She waves it off before giving the camera a smile. It's a little forced, like she's uncomfortable, but all the same she addresses the camera.]

Hello there. This is Phobos and my name is Rei. It's nice to speak to all of you. I'm likely going to be leaving Union for the day, so I thought I'd make sure my Warp Band was fully functional. I assume it is, so I think I'll be going, but feel free to contact me if there's something you have to say. I just wanted to introduce myself.

[An odd pause...and she nods, seemingly satisfied with just that. She's not terribly keen on using this video device, but it is an expected thing, so she'll make the attempt. All the same, off the feed goes now!]

Action

[And true to her word, Rei exits Union's gates that afternoon. A quiver and bow slung over her shoulder, with Phobos the Murkrow and Deimos the Ralts at her side, she heads off towards the forest. Something about today had just seemed rather auspicious, and the night before she'd received a vision in the flames, a premonition that she needed to be leaving Union today. She hadn't gotten much more than that, but it was clear that today was a day of destiny! And that meant getting out like she'd been secretly planning to do for months and months. Grandpapa had supported it for the most part, though his condition was, of course, the Warp Band so she'd obliged him.

Wherever she does, she's moving with a purpose, keeping her eyes peeled for things that might or might not change her life forever. Certainly the land outside was lovely enough to be worth the trip anyway. And if that was all the hunch she'd gotten meant, well...she could deal with that. It wasn't like every single vision had to lead to something astounding, after all.]

[Well, Rei settles down then, and decides that since the other is offering food it would be rude not to accept it. Murkrow and Ralts head for the food immediately, and Rei nods graciously, accepting the gift. She'll just make it a point to repay Michiru in kind at some point in the future.]

It's nice to meet you, Michiru-san. My name is Rei Hino, and I'm grateful for your kindness.

[Okay, so maybe Rei is a little stiffnecked, but this girl is feeding her and her friends...so...]

Are you out visiting the forests as well? Or are you taking a break from training?

A pleasure to meet you as well. [her smile gets a bit more amused. Ultra polite, huh?]

I'm taking a bit of a walk. Martelé [she nods at the Eevee] thought she'd prove her mettle by taking on the forest.

[her tone is amused, but she'll be supportive and tag along with Eevee. So ostensibly, Michiru isn't really training - though it might take Eevee a few tries to figure out who prompted this excursion in the first place.]

[Only with strangers! And customers. And...basically anyone who she doesn't know well. So...her grandfather.]

Did she? Well, I suppose that she's enjoying herself then. And taking a well earned break?

[Rei represses a laugh behind a curled finger, catching the joke.]

[a quiet chuckle. It's always nice when somebody gets her jokes.]

It's hard work, when I only have her to rely on. [that's...probably an understatement too, judging by the way she's casting the Eevee an amused glance.

There's some muffled "vee-ing" at Rei, though the Normal type hurriedly swallows her mouthful when Michiru raises an eyebrow. She'll forgive the eggbaby for talking with her mouth full, but not a (mostly) grown up Pokemon.]

Vee! [yeah! Her Trainer is lucky she's here to take care of all those mean Grass types!!

Any mention of Bug types seems to be mysteriously absent, however.]

[Rei smiles down at the little Eevee before turning to her own companions. Ralts and Murkrow are both being very, very polite, just like Rei. It's partially because they're nervous, and in part because they always follow her lead.]

Phobos and Deimos aren't so tough, yet. But we're just getting started, really. Today's our first day outside Union.

Oh? Where will you - [unfortunately, Eevee picks up on that and turns towards the other two, chest thrust out and bristling aggressively. She's not really that big, but she's trying her darnedest to get some sort of height advantage.

Michiru actually sighs at that. Warningly:] Martele.

[Eevee freezes mid bristle and pouts. She can totally take these two!!]

I'm sorry. She likes to [intimidate others] posture a bit.

[from the completely blasé reaction of the Togepi, this might be a pretty common occurrence.]

[That reaction from Eevee is unexpected, and both Phobos and Deimos adopt defensive postures of their own. The Murkrow's beak gleams sharply in the afternoon light. And Ralts does have a height advantage over Eevee.]

It's alright.

[Rei reaches out to rub her friend's heads, and she gives the Eevee a bored look, totally nonplussed by it's display.]

They're a little protective anyway.

[Eevee looks disgruntled and takes a big bite of her food in response.

Michiru, on the other hand, seemed to like the reactions of Rei's Pokemon.]

Would you mind tag teaming with me for a bit? I don't have very many options when it comes to pairing her up.

[as if on cue, the Togepi trills happily and might have waddled right over to investigate Rei and/or her Pokemon had Michiru not scooped up the eggbaby.

And this little Eevee needs to learn the power of ~~friendship~~ teamwork.]

[That gets a look from Rei, her eyebrow climbing slightly. She...was being asked to join someone else? To help out?

It didn't seem like anything bad, and Michiru seemed nice. And was willing to share food. So the least she could do would be to share some time, right?]

Alright. How would you like me to help, then?

[Michiru is still smiling steadily.]

The aim would be to work together, should any unhappy Pokemon or two take offense to our presence. [Eevee is now literally pouting. Working in a group sounds stupid. And dumb.

And really, she doesn't care if it's working together to fight, negotiate, or create an opportunity to retreat, as long as there's that element of teamwork.]

Were you heading anywhere in particular? [so you won't have to backtrack or anything, since you're doing Michiru this favor]

[Rei, though, is smiling. She's a bit amused at the idea, and the effect it's having on the Eevee. And at the same time...something about Michiru's words is having an effect on her too. She finds herself actively wanting to get to know this person a bit better, which is rare, and even rarer that it's a genuine feeling.]

I was heading towards the Scorched Forest, actually.

[she'll take a moment to stretch her arms above her head, and then start cleaning up lunch.]

There's a wonderful hot springs in there, so you should take a look once you're there.

[depending on whether it looks like you want the company or not, she might walk you all the way there.

Eevee whines a little at Michiru, but when she's still ignored (like all the other times) she goes back to quietly pouting.]

[Rei finishes off her sandwich while Michiru cleans up. And she certainly doesn't mind the company, if it leads to hot springs...]

Really? Well...actually that sounds pretty wonderful.

[Totally excited about that, in her own quiet way. Hot springs are really one of those places that she has always dreamed about visiting. And on her first day out, no less?]

Have you explored that area a lot, Michiru-san?

[She is in no way at all curious, nope. ~~Tell her senpai!~~]

[that prompts a wider smile out of Michiru, and she chuckles as she gathers her pack and holds up the eggbaby.]

I found her at the hot springs, actually.

[never mind the absurdity of egg Pokemon living right next to hot water] Toge!

Did you?

[Well, she certainly doesn't miss the irony of that...but more importantly:]

And what other kinds of Pokemon live there?

[and she'll nod at the direction of the Scorched Forest, before they start walking. Eevee hops down and will follow at her heels. Geez, pouting takes energy. Hmph.]

Growlithes, Darumaka. [she knows a few people with those.

Hmm] Duckletts, if I recall correctly. I'm certain I saw a troop of Aipom too.

[Well, that actually gets Rei to perk up further, a small smile forming at the thought of fire types, clearly.]

I don't think I've ever seen a Ducklett, actually. So this might be a good experience.

[She's...quite the conversationalist. Clearly.]

[she keeps pace besides Rei, though at least it looks like she knows the best path to get there. Togepi wiggles in her arms, chirruping happily.

Rei gets a slightly teasing smile.] Really? You seemed more interested in the Fire types.

"Well," Rei admits with a bit of a rueful smile, "I'm interested in learning more about all Pokemon, but I feel a strong connection to fire types. I feel like I might be able to learn from them."

[hmm. Enlightened then, huh?]

Remind me to introduce you to my Rapidash sometime in the future.

[the near, near future, apparently.]

I...will do that.

[She seems interested, at least. ]

[Michiru doesn't have a particular need to keep chattering at all times, so she just smiles and settles into silence. It's not particularly uncomfortable, at least for her. And as if to make up for it, the Togepi keeps on babbling happily at the newcomers, ensconced in Michiru's arms though she may be.

A while in, Michiru's step seems to falter and she looks around warily. Did you feel that? That's...

...That's a buzzing sound. A loud one, and it's coming closer.]

[Oh...silence is something Rei is well equipped to deal with. It's her preferred mode of conversation at that. Let the other person do all the talking, see what she can learn, and then reply.

And around the same time Michiru notices the sound, Rei does as well. She stops in her tracks and looks all around.]

You hear that too, don't you?

Beedrill don't tend to work alone.

[even if one shows up, others may follow so it would mean a quick fight and a hasty retreat. She looks at Rei, a question in her eyes. Since it's your first outing, how do you want to handle this?

...Eevee is totally trying to inconspicuously huddle closer to Michiru, however.]

You did want to practice teamwork. We can run, or we can use them for practice.

[Rei isn't exactly backing down. Her hand, though, is clinched tight.]
