[Setsuna doesn't make many posts to the Warp Band. Responses, sure, but not many posts of her own. Today you will find her at the Habitat, Water level. She is standing next to a supposedly new face: a Slowking. You might also notice Setsuna looks a little different as well, darker skin and hair than before and more intense eyes. The changes are subtle though, so they might be overlooked.]

I wanted to show the results of one of the items I brought back from Caldera. Lethe was exceptionally interested in the King's Rock when I showed it to her. After some trial and error I traded her with Haruka's assistance and...well here we are. This is Lethe, evolved into Slowking. Say hello Lethe.

[Lethe waves cheerfully, sticking her head up with pride. She wobbles slightly though, clearly still not used to the weight of the large crown on her head.]

Thank you again for your help in discovering this, Haruka.

She is not the only one to experience evolution either. Recently I felt a great rush of power myself. I have not experimented with the limit of my powers yet, but I believe Slowking and I will be practicing here. If anyone is interested, I do not mind having the company.

Pokémon can evolve by trading, too?

[Rise isn't sure if this is a new discovery or if she just really wasn't paying attention in school. Probably the latter, but she's never let that stop her asking dumb questions before.]

It's not a common method, but it does happen. This was a matter of experimentation on my part, though Lethe did help with the discovery because of her interest in the object that triggered it.

So the trading and the rock were both important. I wonder if any of mine evolve that way...

Apparently. Lethe had been playing with the rock for awhile, after conducting some research of my own I thought it might be interesting to see what happened when I traded her. Something you may want to look into is just seeing if anyone shares the same pokemon as you and if they have experienced evolution. There are also books on this subject at the University.

[Lethe beams and bobs her head with enthusiasm. She's going to be the best Slowking you've ever SEEN! She's certainly not as slow as she once was, that's for sure.]

[definitely not as slow. It's apparent, seeing how Lethe had already reacted to Michiru's query.]

I can see her holding court over the others. [Michiru is definitely interested in what Lethe can do though, considering how they share a typing.]

You mean in one of the plays or among the other pokemon I've bonded with? Because she's smarter, but I'm not sure Lethe wants the responsibility of ruling over everyone. She's rather relaxed.

[Lethe, though, holds her head up as regally as she can. She remembers Michiru and Haruka's performances enough to make the attempt look fairly good.]

I wonder how you know if you have a Pokemon that evolves that way. How would they know?

Lethe seemed to have a sense of it, but she's also a psychic type so I wonder if that has something to do with it. A sort of...premonition perhaps.

Of course, there are also some documents about different types of evolution that have been studied over the years. I was flipping through those to get some ideas for possible evolutions of the pokemon I have.

You could research some or ask around and see if anyone knows off hand. If that doesn't work you can always go about it with some trial and error. What sort of pokemon are you bonded with...if you do not mind me asking.

[Merrill abruptly stops in the middle of her list.]

...Oh. I suppose just their names aren't very helpful, are they?

[Whoops. Hang on.]

There's a Nincada, a Murkrow, a Phantump, a Mawile, a Zorua, a Smoochum, a Carbink, a Gothita, a Shedinja, and an Eevee.

[ Haruka has yet to announce her presence, but between witnessing Lethe's evolution and living through one herself, she's plenty curious about what both Lethe and Setsuna can do now. And she's extremely familiar with the Water level of the Habitat, so finding her way around isn't an issue.

So she's hanging back once she spots the pair, then approaches Setsuna from behind. Quick, Lethe! Are your reflexes any better now? ] How's it going?

[Setsuna and Lethe had not started training just yet, too busy responding to the other messages on the Warp Band. She turns around when she hears the question and Lethe turns as well. Lethe bounds over to Haruka and waves enthusiastically.]

Hello Haruka. We haven't started yet.

[ Look at that! You're not so slow, are you? Haruka nods at Lethe, both hands in her pockets. That really is some hat. ] Do you mind an audience?

[ And out from behind her pokes a tiny bear head, a burgundy scarf tied in a bow around her neck. This is the wrong level...but her Trainer wanted her to practice making ice. Making ice on the Ice level sort of is counterproductive, since it's too easy. ] Choo.

Not at all. I did say I wouldn't mind company while we worked.

[Setsuna brushes her hair back.] Besides, recent events have taught me that the battle field provides plenty of distractions. Testing our ability to block that out and focus will also be important.

[Completely ruining her serious moment is the appearance of a small bear that makes Setsuna break into a grin.] Well hello little one. Do you need practice as well?

[ Cubchoo starts, and grips Haruka's pant leg in a nervous reflex....but she has to be a brave little bear if she's going to be of any use to her Trainer - or a refined, elegant lady, for that matter. She can't let herself look indisposed in front of another woman.

So she steps all the way out, patting herself down and trying to breathe shallowly in the hopes of not dribbling all over herself. ] Choo. Cubchoo.

[ She curtseys to Setsuna first, and then to Lethe. A Slow...king, are you? She must present herself well to royalty. Even if you don't look like much.

Haruka just grins. Kid wants to be Michiru and doesn't even know it. ] We won't bother you too much.

[ Evolving with trades... and a King's Rock. That's such an odd idea. And while she initially thinks to respond, she thinks better of it when she recognizes that as near the pool that Shimmer lives in, and Melaka just decides to try to find this mysterious crowned thing and it's Trainer to get a feel for what it looks like in person. Did the King's Rock fuse to it or something?

Maybe it has more energy than she thought.

Oh well. Point is, she's out to find them. And possibly meet her fish there too. But mostly the finding ]

[Setsuna stands on the edge of the pool and Lethe is bobbing in the water. When Melaka approaches they appear to be practicing, or training, as they said they would be. Setsuna is attempting to use her psychic abilities to lift Lethe out of the pool. Meanwhile, Lethe appears to be trying to do the same to Setsuna and get her in the pool. Lethe looks extremely amused by the game while Setsuna is having to concentrate to keep her feet on the ground. Eventually Setsuna's concentration wins out and Lethe is floating back to dry land.

When Lethe is set down safely, Setsuna looks at her hand and then takes out a notebook, jotting down something.]

I do think my Psychic abilities have gotten stronger. I believe we should try my Dark-type abilities next. What are your thoughts?

[Lethe looks over Setsuna's notes and nods. She then points to the water.]

You want to test your speed? Sounds like a good plan.

[Neither notices Melaka yet.]

[ Psychic powers... things she can never really understand. Oh well. Melaka, for her part, just crouches down at a distance from them near the pool, so that she can watch and - possibly - overhear them. Nothing much more do here, she didn't want to interrupt and they were invited. Right? ]

[Setsuna stands back as Lethe dives into the water. She then proceeds to start throwing psychic blasts at the water that Lethe dodges beneath the surface. Lethe even manages to deflect a few with psychic defenses of her own.

She keeps this up for several minutes before Lethe pops up out of the water on the opposite end. She waves at Setsuna to stop.]

Very good Lethe! That was very impressive.

[Setsuna records some more notes while Lethe makes her way back. On her way she spots Melaka watching and waves at her with a smile. Hello. Are you enjoying the show?]

[ Oh wow. That's the sort of thing she does for her training too. No one on her team is expected to do stuff he won't at least try herself and the pecking order is determined with her doing matches against them. They can both grow from it. It's possible she's just projecting (after all, she and hers are a it rough and tumble as compared to how elegant this person looks) but seeing the same theory (she thinks) applied to psychic is... neat.
