Elite Four Aftermath - In The Blizzard's Wake
The warriors of Union fought hard, and in the end, victory was their reward. Seeing the battle lost, the fanatics of the Elite Four fled into the night, those that were not killed or captured of course. Sveta was nowhere to be seen, nor was her mysterious companion, and as its rage was reaching its peak, the mighty Dragon simply vanished in a blaze of energy, recalled by its trainer but not before slamming the mysterious red dragon into another tower for good measure.
As quickly as they had come, the gods of Union vanished, leaving behind the ruined, devastated city. What was once panic has subsided to a quiet shock and horror as the dead and wounded are gathered and people try to find out what was damaged and if their family and friends are still among the living.
While the damage is great, the defenders of Union can take heart in the fact that it could have been much, much worse. The habitat suffered a major blow with a great hole blasted into it, but it is otherwise undamaged and salvageable. The forge likewise had one smithy station destroyed from a divine claw smite, but is otherwise unscathed. The signal tower took moderate damage from the initial attack, but it is reparable, given time. The biggest toll, however, is on that of the people. The Residential District, as well as parts of the Entertainment district lie in tatters. Several towers are gutted, and a few even fell completely, many of the citizens inside them trapped and unable to escape. In all, the death toll numbers around 700, with at least 1,000 wounded, and is expected to rise as rescuers desperately comb the wreckage in search of survivors. Never before has Union lost so many of its citizens, never before has such suffering and violence come to Union. People are afraid, they are angry, but, in the true spirit of Union, they are banding together. The City of Union has survived. But it will never be the same.

Then he will feel a slight tug on his pants leg, upon which looking down he'll see a very familiar pink Darumaka staring up at him. She doesn't have the usually-present grin on her face, yet she's still holding up her paws at Gordon and waving as though she's telling him to "please wait here."]
[In fact, she is, as soon after Sally stops at Gordon, there's Maka following after her holding some sandwiches and a cup of tea.]
Mr. Gordon, I think that's Sally telling you to take a quick break.
no subject
Hello, Sally.
[His attention is turned to Maka as she arrives with food and drink. He smiles a bit, and gives a long-suffering sigh, finding a place to sit down and take a break, those of his Pokemon in the area that aren't immediate involved in some critical task come over. Sally's sparring partner is amongst them, the usually energetic and ready to tussle Buddy picking up on the atmosphere. Silver ears are low, though every so often some of the usual energy is back, such as when a survivor is found or when someone needs cheering up.]
[Gordon takes a sandwich, looking Maka in the eyes, then around the eyes.]
Looks like you might need to take your own advice.

[...So that means even more that she needs to sit down and take a break.]
But I figure as long as I'm not doing any heavy lifting I'll be okay. [It's not okay at all, but whoever said teenagers had sense. The bundle of fur around her shoulders twitches in response to this as if whole-heartedly disagreeing.] ...And taking it slow. Anyway, are you thirsty? All I've got is tea right now, but I can go get water or something.

Tea is fine. Though... as my daughter could tell you, the best way to get me to actually take a break is to pin me down with conversation.
[He makes some space on his perch.]
Your family make it out okay?
[Though, as he asks it, he realizes he doesn't even know if she has family in Union.]
no subject
Yes, my father is fine, if there's one thing he's good at it's running away from angry women and their bondmates. [That's not true, Spirit is actually good at a few things, but Maka doesn't...tend to look at the positive aspects of her father since his negative manchild aspects are more apparent.] I checked in with him and Mi--Councilman Mort after the enemy retreated.
[She's not going to admit that once the delirium passed she got worried about him. What do you mean that's absurdly petty and transparent.]
...As for Mom, she's been outside of the city for a while now, so she wouldn't have run into this. I hope, anyway. What about your family, Mr. Gordon?

One of the advantages of having a workaholic analyst Sword for a father. When everything started, we'd already practiced the evacuation a dozen times or more. Though, when I planned the evacuation route, I was mostly worried about some over-enthusiastic fire type, not an angry god.
[He frowns.]
They got out alright, though. We were lucky.
[He looks at the damage, apparent from anywhere in Union.]
I'm a sore loser. I don't fail easily, and take it pretty hard when I do. More than a few of my bondmates take after me that way.
[He looks to Maka.]
While I'm being honest, I don't think they're going to stop with just Union. We were just the first stop because we called them on their lunacy. But... with any luck, we showed them humanity, the Enlightened, the enhanced. The Savior's chosen, whatever you want to call them, we're not going to go down as easily as they thought.

Over in Glacier it was bad, meeting with this "Elite Four" was bad—that woman talked about a "brave new world" in the making, but all Maka saw from her was death and destruction, fear and hatred. That's not the kind of world the girl wants, not for herself or any living creature, she just wants a more peaceful world where people and Pokemon can live in harmony.
But, as he says, the people of Union—Enlightened or not—are not weak and they are not cruel, and they won't bow to any zealot that tries to force their agenda of violence onto them. A soft smile comes to her face and she nods, eyes casting to the side.]
My mom would always say that every person has courage, in big ways and in small ways, but all of those ways are just as important as the last. Maybe…those people are actually afraid of how uncertain things still are and cling to those ideals for comfort. Whatever the case, if they try to hurt anyone else, I'm not going to lose against them. [She hates losing or falling short, that much is apparent too.]

We might be busy repairing the damage just this second, but it won't be long before we need to transition to protecting other cities from them. We want the same things, but the way they want to get there makes them no better than those they find so horrible. Even Gigas isn't trying to finish what the gods started all those years ago.
[He looks to where his Pokemon continue to work.]
My bondmates aren't taking it lying down either. Even without me asking, I've caught a few of them working some combat training into the recovery efforts.
[He takes another breath.]
They're so eager to show the world what they can do with gods on their side. Maybe we should give them an up close look at what that really looks like.
