Taking Out The Trash

Where: The ocean's shore and a cave full of Trubbish

What: Cleaning up the ocean
Warnings: Two groups here - one keeping the Trubbish back while the other dams up the hole they're coming through.  Going with no particular thread order here, just to keep things running smoothly and so threads don't get bogged down.  Post when you can and we'll just work through it as we go.

It's been about a week since Squid Girl discovered the horrifying cave full of Trubbish that feeds into the ocean via underground river, periodically dumping walking bags of toxic waste into her natural habitat.  And naturally, as a proud denizen of the deep, she's decided to do something about it.  So today Squid Girl has returned with a crack squad of environmental freedom fighters - or just the first six people she could wrangle into helping with this plan.  Either one is good enough for her.

"Okay, shut your beaks and listen up!  We're here to save the ocean from getting even more cluttered up with these Trubbish suckers!  Through careful inkfiltration, I've located their secret base in a cave not far from here!  We'll split into two teams - one team will go into the cave and make sure no more Trubbish come through, and the other team will dive underwater to dam up the hole they're coming through!  I have prepared lumber from the Verdant Forest and tools from the city for us to use.  It won't be easy, but we're doing somefin gilly important here - somefin that will be remembered by generations of Water Pokemon to come!  So what are you all waiting for?  Let's get kraken!"

Dam Building Group

[This post is for the characters that want to help with blocking off the Trubbish's cave. The entrance is underwater, so this is probably better for expert swimmers, athletes, or characters with lots of Water types. Squid Girl will be accompanying this team since she can breathe underwater and has lots of support.]

If no one minds, I'm going to stay up on the surface and try to coordinate things. I can talk to everyone in your heads so we can sort of talk that way even underwater, if that makes sense.

[Rise will be sending the two Water-types she brought along down to ferry supplies (in the case of her Gyarados) and hold things in place (in the case of her new Staryu).]

Good. We're counting on you, Rise.

[Squid Girl nods. For once, there's no hint of sarcasm in her voice. This is serious business right here. Fiddling with her Warp Band for a moment, she summons her own Gyarados onto the scene, as well as Stormy the Castform, Fatty the Wailmer, Flappy the Mantine, and Swimmy the Palpitoad to help out.]

Okay, you all know what to do!

[Pamela's just got two water types amongst her Pokemon companions. Her strongest is Sweet Pea the Gyrados, but she's also got Hydrangea the Marill who only recently hatched. She'll be relying primarily on Sweet Pea for this, but Hydrangea is eager to help and it's a good opportunity to teach her about the importance of taking care of the environment.

On the land, she's got Sage the Ivysaur and Pine the Glaceon. Pine's another newer member to her team - she bonded with him just recently and he was more insistent about contributing to the effort than the others. Sage is keeping track of things, and ready to fight in case any Trubbish show up to cause trouble while the dam is being built.]

All right, we're read, too.

Okay. I'll take you guys to the cave. We'll have to swim there, so those other Pokemon can ride on the Gyarados' backs with the building supplies and help hand them down to us.

[Squid Girl dives into the water, her Pokemon following close behind.]

I'll hold up a tentacle so nobody gets lost!

[And she dives right under, snaking one long blue tentacle up and out of the water, sticking it straight up and out, the tip pointing like an arrow toward their destination.]

[Squid Girl knows where to go, of course, and they will reach their destination unaccosted.]

[Squid Girl surfaces once they're where they need to be.]

Okay! The cave is down there.

[One of her tentacles snakes out to point downward.]

[This is oddly fun, despite it being a serious task. Rise keeps her mind in contact with Squid Girl's and Namazu's to make sure her ride stays on task and doesn't forget that she's supposed to be following the Malamar and not snacking on her.]

[She expands her thoughts a bit to include Pamela and contacts the other two trainers psychically.]

Mic check! Can everyone hear me?

[Pamela's left her glasses in her bag and given it to Sage to take care of. He, Pine and Hydrangea will ride on Sweet Pea's back while Pamela swims. Her vision isn't terrible without her glasses, but she can't see details sharply unless she's wearing them. But she hardly needs sharp vision while she's swimming.

It's a little surprising to hear Rise like that, and at first she answers verbally.]

I can. Wait a minute.

[Then she remembers to clearly think the words instead.]

I can hear you.

Loud and clear!

[Squid Girl climbs up onto Gary the Gyarados' back, starting to unpack the building materials.]

Okay, so how do we want to do this?

We should probably focus on making sure it's structurally sound first...so we should start with building a strong foundation.

[Not that she's ever actually built a dam before, but Pamela is a scientist. Her father's also an engineer, so she understands the physics behind how such a thing would need to be built, at least. She takes her glasses out from the bag Sage has been holding onto for her, and pulls them on to take a look.]

So build it up here and then I'll take the whole thing down and put it over the hole?

[It's tricky since the mouth of the cave is underwater. It'd be much easier if that weren't the case.]

Trubbish Fighting Group

[This prompt is for the characters who will be going into the cave to hold off the Trubbish while the other group finishes their work. They'll still have to dive a little to get in there, but this will be better for the fighters in the group.]

[Absol is doing some stretching to warm up. She had been promised a good fight and ploughing through wave after wave of Trubbish sounds like a hell of a time. She looks over at Squid Girl.]

Lead the way then.

Hope you can swim! Everybody follow me.

[And Squid Girl dives into the water, glowing with a soft blue light to guide the group's way. Eventually, she comes to a hole leading to a tunnel, pointing toward it and making sure everyone can see before turning around.]

Good luck!

[And a big thumbs up to her combat team.]

[Chester doesn't have any Water Types, but he's sure his Leafeon's resistance to them will be a help. He gets into the water with Shouha clinging around his neck and follows. The Pokemon can swim, but Chester wants him to keep his strength up.]

We'll sort out the pile up in no time.

[Absol gets into the water next. Swimming was one of the things she practised most after she became a Shifter, and while her technique is far from perfect, it's functional for moving through the water.

Yet she still shakes her body like a dog when she gets out of the water on the other side.]

[ Arietta had gone with this team, mostly because she didn't have to water types to help build the dam. Her two electric types weren't so certain about the water, but once they got to the other side, it was better. The Shinx and Pikachu both shook out their fur as Arietta tried to dry off a shivering Venonat. ]

How many to do think there is going to be?

[Apollo does what he normally does when he swims; he undresses without any ceremony, embarrassment, or bathing suit and walks into the water. His Shiftry and Bellsprout accompany him, while his Fletchinder, Hippopotas, and Tropius remain on dry land.

As a Child of the Verdant Forest, he keeps his mind open to any Pokémon nearby so that he'll have warning of any hostile intent, along with some vague idea of numbers.]

[Chester watches Arietta go over, dodging Asbol's shaking when he sees Apollo.]

Hey. There are little girls around, you know? Have some decency.

[Just as Squid Girl had discovered, the underwater tunnel leading up into the Trubbish cave is quite lengthy, meandering far inland. It doesn't help that the current is obviously pushing against them down into the sea, either. There is air at the top of the tunnel, however, so there's no real question of drowning, although it might be a bit claustrophobic.

It will take about an hour of careful swimming before it broadens out. To the right, there is a high cliff - an opening can be seen up top.]

[Apollo looks over in confusion.]

What do you mean?

I wouldn't want some naked guy around my little sister, that's all.

[Apollo looks down at himself, then back up at Chester, still confused.]

Why would me not wearing anything make you not want me around your sister?

[He's either the world's greatest actor or he genuinely doesn't understand what the problem is.]

Dunno. The more of them, the better! [She stretches out her body as a warm-up.]
