[Oh look, it's everyone's favorite earnest, well-meaning, kind-to-all-living-creatures blond kiddo, just chilling in the park with his Pokemon buddies...

...including the absolutely enormous Steelix who's dozing and giving out gravelly snores. In fact, Armin and his little Pokemon friends -- including Nim the Mareep baby and the just-recently-hatched Espurr baby who insists on being held at all moments -- are sitting on top of Gertrude-the-Steelix's head. So anyone trying to approach...best tread lightly.

Armin is clearly in a mood.]

[Not so much that he doesn't turn on his Warp Band and ask, shortly, with one of the most grim expressions he's ever worn:] Is anyone signing up for this Tournament?

[ Whoa. she shifts her gaze so she can see the book better, which results in the camera going shakey cam for a bit before settling on... one of her knees. Oops ]

[Armin looks so excited, and he's polite enough to not even mention the shakycam business.]

Really! Long long ago, when a trainer was first starting out, they would be given one of three Pokemon to be their very first, and that one -- the fire lizard -- was one of them! It's called a "Charmander".

Oh no... way! I found something as important as that?! A Charmander?!

[ That even sounds like a cool name. Her usual businesslike or at lease stoic-y persona fades a little as she giggles excitedly, caught up in the moment ]

You did! It evolves into a Dragon Type too!

[Armin is totally delighted by this -- both the cute little fire lizard and seeing Melaka's usual nature change into one of excitement.]

Oh, but be really really careful and make sure that little flame never goes out, otherwise it'll die.

A dragon? Oh, that's awesome. [ She looks at the thing with a newfound admiration. Because a dragon type to be is in her apartment. Not as cool as fighting, of course, but more than she expected of it ]

-- That's a good tip though. [ A bit more soberly, but still excited ]

An enormous fire-breathing flying dragon! Isn't that awesome? [Not dangerous or potentially havoc-wreaking or anything. Just awesome.]

But yes, you have to be extra cautious when they're small, like any baby. Where did you say you found it?

[ She shifts the video back to herself now to better see his own video - but the camera is still off-center and given how close she has it pulled to her face it's probably as off as this current icon. Oops. But then she walks away from the Charmander, just... in case it can hear in it's sleep ]

Out in the Scorched Forest. I guess its parents must not have been fully evolved, because I think they got eaten.

Oh no. Poor thing! Was it still in an egg, or had it hatched?

Kinda... both? I think it had started to hatch but stopped for some reason, unless Charmander eggs normally have the tails sticking out.

[ Which hell, maybe they do. She doesn't know ]

Hmmm... [BACK TO THE BOOK, flipping through the pages rapidly.] It...doesn't say anything about their hatching habits. Perhaps their tails hatch first, so the flame has oxygen to keep it going?

In any case, it's definitely a good thing that you found it.

Oh, that's a legit theory. Particularly if they die without them - no use burning themselves before they get out. ... But yeah, the little guy really lucked out for me to find 'em. [ A beat ] Or well, Slugger to, more like.

Yes, they're quite vulnerable at that age. Lots of larger Pokemon prey on the babies. Do you know what you're going to name him?

No idea. For either him or for her-

[ And then she shifts the camera again - to focus on a rather contended looking female Machop baby who is wearing a King's Rock which is ill fitting on her head ]

Got any ideas?

[Armin brightens a bit, waving at the Machop.] Hmmm...I like her hat?

-- oh, you meant about the names, didn't you?

Yeah, that's what I meant.

[ The Machop, meanwhile, waves back a little. Hesitantly, like it didn't know waving was a thing ]

[The hesitant Machop wave is met with the happiest face ever.]

Hmmm...I have lots of name ideas, but all my friends say they're weird.

Well if they're no good, I'll refuse them, and it's no harm done. Shoot.

I've always been partial to "Hepzibah". Or "Coquette".

Yeah, pass. On both of those.

[HEAVIEST OF SIGHS.] See? I told you.

[ Pfft. ] Yeah, guess you did. So it's all on me.
