Invasion: Start

The morning after the meteor shower, things start as they always do. Union’s gearing up for another day: people going to work, shops opening, kids heading to school, and foremen getting their crews to work on the last of the damage left by Kyurem’s rampage through the city. It’s just an ordinary day, with only a passing thought given to yesterday’s odd occurrences by anyone outside the scientific and psychic communities. There’s some very real theories floating around there, but there’s little real chance at anything solid coming from the discourse. At least, until reports start coming up Route 1 from the single port started by one Union entrepreneur two years ago. It’d grown quickly with Gigan help, seaborne trade flowing up the lone road, and now it was completely overrun.

Panicked sailors and land crew come streaming up the way, nursing hundreds and hundreds of Bug-type induced injuries. Beedrill stings, Spinarak bites, and photographs of several enormous members of a new species that’d yet to be recorded quickly circulate and prompt Council response. Whatever these things are, they’re clearly hostile and the risk of damage to the city itself seems likely given how quickly the port had been overwhelmed.

With the city still shaken by Kyurem’s attack, the Council wasted no time. The call to arms was put out and trainers hastily sent out to deal with the sudden intrusion. Anyone willing and able to fight was asked to head down the road as quickly as possible, with the intent of sorting this out and either diverting the tide or stopping the invasion cold. The road itself is deserted, abandoned wagons left in a hurry, and not a single wild Pokemon can be heard for miles. It’s almost like they were aware something big was coming, and even the more aggressive types clearly opted to clear out.

When it comes into view, the port itself seems to be in particularly bad shape. Smoke rises up into the horizon, and hundreds and hundreds of Bug types swarm all over the structures, chewing away at the wood and stone. But perhaps the most troublesome sight is the beings that are overseeing the attack. Several members of the new species, fifteen feet tall at minimum, twenty at the peak, direct the swarm in its efforts. And further out to sea, a singularly massive specimen, some forty feet tall, watches it all, hunched forward, dark eyes gleaming with interest as its minions go to work…

Mac is stubborn, weathering the hit, though certainly feeling it as he's tossed aside, but not far enough to impact Mei. Rusty is ready to rejoin the fight, but as she stumbles to her feet and starts to limp towards the Genesect, Gordon gives her a sympathetic look and, with a hand to wounded flank, sends her back to the habitat. The warp band glows for an extra moment and a Blastoise appears, getting a quick lay of the land.

Gordon indicates the Volcarona. "Fire types. Keep them off our icy friends."

The Blastoise grins, and the stone around its neck begins to glow, the light soon engulfing it entirely as it Mega-Evolves. A Water Pulse lashes out at the nearest of the Volcarona. Mac regains his footing and rushes back in, this time looking to recover a little lost health with a Drain Punch.

Mei stubbornly refuses to leave her protective cocoon. The thick layers of ice act as a barrier against the outside world and they only get thicker by the second. It's like she's in a Protective bubble or something. You could almost get the sense that she's reading a book in there.

Of course, that doesn't mean the Froslass is idle. As lazy as her trainer might seem, the Ghost is eager to get going and rolls up her metaphorical sleeves, launching a Shadow Ball at the Genesect's face, in hopes of lowering it's defense or something. At the same time...Snowball takes a stab at adding to the attacks against Volcarona by raising an Uproar!

Loken is struck by the heat wave, and crumples, Riolu standing by him protectively. His Honedge is also badly harmed by the attack, and floats low by his side. He slowly rises, the Paragon blade glowing in his hands, but he can't add any attacks from him or his Pokemon companions this time, too badly beat down by the fire type attack.

The second magnet bomb rebounds off of the ice barrier around Mei. And cracks begin to form. A lot of them. There's a crunch, a crackle, and a loud bang as Mei breaks free of the ice. Fully rejuvenated, weirdly, with thin trickles of meltwater running down her cheeks. It's like she refroze herself or something. WEIRD.

And she takes aim with her heat ray, setting it on overcharge now.

"I'm going to teach you some manners."

And then...she unleashes a fiery blast right at the frozen Genesect. It may undo her Pokemon's hard work, but she's aiming for the head. Like you do when your enemy can't move.

Mike turns in place, zeroing in on the more aggressive of the two Genesects, letting loose another Water Pulse. He gives a cocky smile, the force of each blast causing him to slip back a bit in the slushy ground.

Licking his wounds a bit, Mac steps back, seeing if it can Detect any incoming attack in time to get away.

"Keep it up!" Gordon cries. "We're winning," he says, moving over to Loken's side, helping him to his feet, the progress so far not having been without cost. "Don't suppose you can do anything like that?" he asks, nodding to the rejuvenated Meicicle.

"No need." He says, almost visibly increasing in size and mass as he strides forward, Paragon blade arcing with energy as he steps out onto the ice, and crunches towards the first, frozen Genesect.

"It's time to end this!"

He leaps forward with a two-handed, sweeping blow, evolving for the first time and growing even more powerful as he does so.

Turns on the next foe, and grinds across the ice towards the second Genesect, silent as his blade sweeps in for another strike. The beam shatters the remains of his helm, and one pauldron, exposing eyes that now glow red with the fury of Caldera's own volcano. His Riolu Stands up, and raises a paw, concentrating and unleashing a [ Focus Blast ] To avenge the wounding of it's master.

Mei keeps on firing, the beam from her heat ray doing just what it needs to do, aiming for the Outraged one. She's running now though, strafing to avoid being in a place to get hit...

Hopefully that's the case!

Mike is displeased with missing, but knows exactly how to address that, firing off an Aura Sphere, trusting his natural tankiness to keep him on his feet and fighting.

Meanwhile, Manny rejoins the fight, swooping down from the air, letting out an Air Slash as it draws close, it's steel typing hopefully protecting it enough from the attacks of the enraged bug bot.

Loken scrambles to the edge of the ice, levers himself up onto the pier again, and just sits, unable to further the fight. At least for now. He asks, exhaustedly. "wasn't there a larger one?"

Gordon looks around, having avoided the worst of it, his Pokemon doing most of the fighting, even the Steel Type Skarmory looking a little beat up as it lands at his side.

"Believe so," he says, looking out to sea as Mike reverts from his Mega evolution.

"How's everyone holding up? This might just be round one."
