Light 'em up (The Calderan Day of Fire)
It's the morning of the 19th and it's clear even to the inexperienced traveler that the city has a different air to it. If it wasn't the atmosphere that got them, then the stalls lining the streets would. Many people are still working on getting set up for the night festival, but the stalls that are complete are lining many corners and they are filled to the brim with bright colors. From afar, the streets look like someone threw a rainbow of paint across the city.
They haven't seen anything yet.
It's not yet time for the festivities so any visitors are free to wander the streets. The natives seem to be delighted if amused at all the people interested in the holiday and are happy to sell anyone as much colored powder as they want. They are glad to explain the fascinating origins of the holiday or even talk shop about what they're planning to show off later in the night. It seems that not even the gloom and unease that might have rolled into town with Union has caused these people to falter with their grandest tradition.
Sometime close to noon is when things change. The natives all kind of stop what they're doing. The colored stalls start to close up and everyone looks tense. Those who visited last year might take this as their cue to get ready.
A long, rattling trumpet sound rings through the streets and that is when all hell breaks loose.
It's every person and pokemon for themselves. Have fun everyone.

Well, whatever. Haruka supposes she can make some structures to frame one side of the base that could either be rock outcroppings or buildings, depending on what motif you most wanted to imagine. They've got lots of clay, so it shouldn't interfere with Michiru's work.
She begins building up her "buildings". Have to leave plenty of room for Arcanine....how big is it going to be? She checks with Michiru. ]

...sola.
[Michiru just chuckles quietly and then places the half finished figure between the two of them so you can see. Somemon might have started backseat sculpting.]
no subject
Right. A base should show off the primary sculpture. Michiru is always letting Haruka take center stage. Now it's time for her to make Michiru look even better.
She's smiling to herself as she works her clay, but the buildings aren't looking too building-shaped... ]

Corsola? [Carol boosts herself up a little higher to see better! Uhhh...] Sola... [it looks great! (even if it's not very building-y) But keep up the good work!
Michiru just looks super amused for some reason.]
no subject
In Haruka's mind, though, she's sculpting a gust of wind. ]
no subject
Babysitting at its best. Carol can't even speak while doing that.
Michiru attaches the tail to the rest of the figure and starts carving out the details. Fierce and ready to pounce seems to be what she's going for.]
no subject
But that's what she adores about her partner, and why she'll see about making a good base that doesn't overpower the main event. How is this looking? Should she make it smaller?
Haruka couldn't even say when she, in turn, had been tricked into actually trying. She may not be aware of it herself, yet. ]
no subject
It looks like she's trusting you with the overall composition of the piece.
And if it looks like she has moved onto making a tiny Corsola with a cape, that's because she has.]
no subject
[ Haruka breaks the silence because she can, not because previously she was focusing too hard in a rare display of putting effort into something. But she sees what you're doing with the extra clay. It's adorable. Like its subject. ]
no subject
[if she's spoiling them, what does it make you? (Though to be fair, Michiru did drag the both of them over here.)]
no subject
Then again, you are sculpting a tiny adorable Corsola.
The base is ready. Haruka thinks. She nudges it towards the Arcanine, but hesitates to pick the Pokémon up. How is she supposed to lift this....? Hm. This will be a delicate operation.
But she won't mess it up. ]
no subject
But she busy giving off the impression that she's not looking at what you're doing. Instead, she's leaning over to set the tiny caped Corsola on top of Carol's clay building (now complete with slightly crooked windows)]
...Corsola! [whoa! What an amazing depiction of the Coral Avenger! (that she only heard about through the grapevine and with whom she is in no way associated with)
Carol's totally starry-eyed though.]
no subject
Arcanine is set gently within its impressive wreath of flame. They did it.
She clears her throat. ] You can fix it up.
[ If you want. If any of her flames look weird.
It won't be an imposition. If it's you. ]
no subject
A few tweaks here and there, and then she's inscribing their initials onto the side of the base.]
There, let's hand it in.
[working together usually ends up with a good result, doesn't it?]
no subject
[ As if they won't take first with something Michiru worked on. Haruka isn't worried. ]
no subject
She carefully sets both the Arcanine and the Coral Avenger sculptures on a tray.
To Carol:] We'll come back for it when they've finished baking it.
[easier than carrying wet clay back home, at any rate]
no subject
As she looks down the street, she sees what might be a single lone rain cloud floating over something a few blocks away. Her eyebrows draw slightly together, but she forces herself not to jump to conclusions. It could be someone else.
Oh well. ]
no subject
Maybe it's the sparkles. Or that smile she's still wearing when she comes back, hand slipping neatly into yours.]
Let's see what else Caldera has to offer.
[Carol, for her part, doesn't seem to care where they're going. She's still starry-eyed, dreaming of a statue of the Coral Avenger erected in her honor! Or an entire line of Coral Avenger toys! And an annual parade!!
...the Corsola is going to have to rush back later to retrieve the cape she hid under those bushes over there.]
no subject
[ Said with a grin. It's been a year. She can laugh that off.
Besides, she totally finished that plate. ]
