[Is it any wonder that Commander ~~Handsome~~ is one of the first to perfect the use of the new video equipment? After all, dramatic speeches are so much more effective when he can showcase his cheekbones to their full potential.

Except now he's keeping it short and sweet, preoccupied with other matters, clearly:]

It seems recent events have sparked an...admirable rush of civic pride. I encourage anyone who is interested to see about applying for the Scouting Corps. We can always use Rangers with your sort of passion and drive.

As for everyone else -- continue to serve Union and humanity whole-heartedly.

[ Well. She signs off with another thing of "sir" and makes to head over there for about 1PM. Mostly because until then she settled in to try to find some nicer pants. The boots and jacket she has supplied, but she wanted to look a little more formal, so she splurged some to get a nicer pair than what she'd been using. And with that done, to the offices! She suspected she might need to wait a bit, but she does come ]

[She does indeed need to sit and wait -- but while she does, she's approached by a Houndour. At least, it's a Houndour in theory. In reality it's very bizarrely proportioned, drooling copiously and wagging it's tail so hard that it's hind quarters keep flopping over.

It's also approaching her rapidly, with a look of pure joy on it's face.]

[ Well.

Well, she just will remain sitting here, stoically. Then it might not cause problems for her. Yeah ]

[Weird Pokedog is entirely undaunted by Melaka's lack of reaction. He'll flail and wiggle his way over, then attempt to climb onto the couch next to her, whining pathetically when he's unable to.]

[ ... ] Seriously, what're you doing? Get off.

[The most woeful of expressions goes here. One of the many soldiers passing through is kind enough to mention: That's the Commander's Houndour. Sorry about the drool.]

[ The Commander's? She mutters an awkward thanks to the soldier before turning her attention back to the dog in front of her. If it's the Commander's it must be a lot more impressive than it looks ... And in light of that, she's probably supposed to be treating it nice... er ]

... So she'll just pat it on the head ]

[Gunsmoke flops onto her lap, panting and slobbering in bliss. He's...not hiding any secret impressive talents. He's really that goofy.

Fortunately, though, Erwin takes this moment to step out from his office, spotting his wayward Houndour and sparing a chuckle.]

[ She tries to hide her annoyance as she says that. Because for real? For real. This is gross ]

[Erwin chuckles mildly, bending down to scoop up the Houndour in one arm.]

[ UGH. That would be the word, right? Seems logical. With the dog collected, she stands too and makes ready to follow him wherever ]

[He strides into his office, which is very simple for a high-ranking officer, setting the Houndour on a pillow in the corner, then settling down behind his desk.]

Please, make yourself comfortable. What made you want to join the Rangers? [This is said in the same breath.]

[ Whoa. She doesn't think of sit and instead just sort of crosses her arms and keeps standing for a moment because it would be rude to lean against the wall. Uh. She feels weird to be here, though the fact it is not austere really helps matters. Even if it does feel out of place for her with her piercings and tattoos and other remnants of her earlier life. ]

'Cus I wanted to make a difference. I hadn't been doing much for years, then I got inspired to give it a shot.

[That gets an arched eyebrow, which is Erwin-speak for "I'm sort of impressed".]

Making a difference. That's...idealistic. Most people are satisfied saying that they just want to keep Union standing. May I ask what "inspired" you?

Really...? [ ... ] I had a run in with one of the long standing Rangers, Mr. Teresa. She was really cool, and way more impressive than most of the people someone like me who grew up near the factories runs into. And I guess I thought [ "I can do better than my sister who is in the Swords" ] that I've been good at stuff all my life [ "and I can make up for the fact Harth died" ] so I might as well do something with it.

[Likelihood that she's lying? High. But that doesn't stop Erwin from nodding slightly, making some notes on the papers in front of him.]

You grew up near the factories, then? [Surprisingly, he doesn't say it with disdain or contempt -- rather something like curiosity, actually.]

... Yeah. Still do, actually - it used to be near the Old City's gates too, but now I'm higher up.
