The sun is shining, the Wingull are squawking, and the beach of the Tropical Island is as beautiful as always. The whole city has more or less been effectively encouraged to come out, especially people who need to recover from the shenanigans in Sanctuary. The air is filled with the sounds and smells of Citadel visitors grilling, the expected murmurs of shock at Calderan fashions hitting the place where they're most practical, and of course, the colorful sights of everyone having a good time. There's lots of places to see and things to do on the island, and now's the time to enjoy them.

Well, the Smashatronic Hammer 9000 was a rousing success, and so are my Sonic Squeakers and Force Field Generators. And my Plasma Gun. [All weapons of war...] And um, the Rotomcycles were mine, Gil's, and Banzu's thing. Also contact lenses and a lot of other stuff.

[All of that stuff sounds so badass. So amazing that he wants some of it, but he knows there's no way he can afford it. But. But.

You...you're the one that made those cycles I've seen in town? I mean, there's not a whole lot of them but they're the sickest things this side of the Plains! How much do one of those things cost?

I helped design it, yeah. I mean...like I said, Gil and Banzu helped? Team thing. But I'm glad you like our work.

[She grins and quotes a price. It's...not as massively expensive as he might think, but definitely not something he can afford on a single paycheck.]

That's the base price, though I can do extras!

[That's a price that he's just going to file in the back of his head. That'll take him months to save up for...]

Extras? Like what? You got some sweet additions you can put on it?

Yeah, designs and customizations. Also make it more luxurious for you and the Rotom.

[Sorta like a Luxury Ball, but a fancier, shinier Engine Core...]

I'll get back to you on that. [And he sounds sincere. He'd love a rotomcycle. He would look so cool.]

Say, you said you invent all kinds of things, huh? You wouldn't of made something for music have you? [He says with a grin. As much as he'd like that to be a thing, he doubts it is...]

Something for music? Like what?

[Does he want some sort of phonograph speaker for the bike?]

I mean, I haven't done a lot of musical devices other than sound amplifiers.

I dunno. I like listening to it a lot, but it sucks when I gotta walk somewhere and can't take it with me.

[He ponders for a second.]

Maybe something smaller. You're the inventor here!

Um, y'mean like...something portable? Like the Warp Band sorta thing?

[She smiles, a vague but happy smile. It's a project.]

Though, out of curiosity, what's in it for me, stranger?

Uh! [He hadn't thought about that. Partially because he's never talked to an inventor before.]

I'll pay you somehow! If you seriously can think of a way to make some kinda portable music device. Just don't invent it too quick so I can save up...

Me? You want me to help? What the hell can I do?

[He has no technological knowledge at all.] I am, kinda. I only have a few pokémon though.

What are you getting at... [He peers at her.]

Well. I'm going to need materials. And if you're even a beginning trainer? You're equipped to handle what I'm going to need. Stuff from the forest, stuff from the mountain foothills and the canyon. Nothing dangerous, just stuff that I need to make this work that's harder to find in Union.

That's seriously it? Just go get some things and bring them back? That doesn't sound so hard.

[Well, it doesn't sound hard. Sound being the operative word...]

Basically, yeah, that's exactly what I need you to do.

Also, I'll probably need your help testing things. Various designs and the like.

[She is the second person to ask him to "test" something, which is why she gets a skeptical look.]

Hold on, and what exactly would I be testing? I don't wanna end up disfigured! Or worse!

Mostly? Volume controls. How it fits on your head. That sort of thing.

[She gives him the blandest of bland looks.]

It's all auditory, I'm not going to be able to disfigure you with sound. Well...not unless I tried really, really hard. And where's the point in that?

Yeah, I appreciate that you keep all of me in one piece.

[That's a relief to hear she'd rather not disfigure him.]

Alright, you got yourself a deal. I'll test it out.

[She leans back and puts her arms behind her head, not at all bothered to be stretching out in front of a boy.]

Now, isn't there something else you're forgetting, bucko?

[Don't mind him appreciating that view, because he is. Though he looks confused.]

Huh? I offered to pay you, didn't I? [And volunteer himself...what was he forgetting?]

[She smirks up at his obvious cluelessness, and as the most attractive woman in Caldera (hohoho) she doesn't seem at all bothered.]

Shit! How did I forget about that?! [He blurts out, feeling like an idiot.]
