Attack on Sanctuary

It’s just after midnight when the column arrives outside of Sanctuary, shrouded in darkness under the pitch black of a new moon. Bordered by mountains to the north, the city has two primary gates to the West and the East, both of which are shut tight with massive oaken doors, centuries old and further secured with an antique portcullis. The city itself is surrounded by walls of stone, easily one-fourth the height of those found in Union and about twice the height of many of the homes, sturdy stone buildings with triangular roofs, about the same size as Calderan homes. Like Union, there are many towers within the city, but unlike Union, the towers are cold, aloof structures that stand alone with no connection to the other towers. The city itself is stone, cold, gray, and unfeeling, with small drops of light from streetlamps which line the streets, emitting an eerie blue-white glow. This is Sanctuary. Home of the Magi, conquered by Gigas for forty years. This is the city that must be reclaimed.

[OOC: If you did not choose to take the Pokeballs (you don’t have to have affirmed in an NPC thread, it’s entirely up to the character), they may have either 1 large Pokemon or 2 small Pokemon. A large Pokemon is classified as any Pokemon that is 4’ tall or long per the official Pokedex guidelines, anything smaller is considered a small Pokemon. Without the aid of Pokeballs the Pokemon will be required to be out and active throughout the log, and will not be able to be recalled or sent away if they are injured and must be carried if knocked out. As always, please limit yourself to 2 major actions in the log, and declare all Pokemon accompanying you in your first tag to a log. As always, to keep the logs moving, we will be responding every 24 hours.]

"Tch!"

Wow. She was fast.

Luckily, so was he.

Asemu twisted around, and with a combination of jukes and his beam saber blades, did his best to avoid being hit as much as he could. He was pretty clearly on the defensive, though, and was trying to get out of close combat range, especially when the Discharge came out. Flying backwards as fast as he could go, Asemu released one of the beam saber blades and let loose with a continuous, long-range beam shot from one of his hands.

Sielg, meanwhile, hovered backwards to try to keep out of the Ursaring's range. He and Typhoon, Asemu's Shiftry, then launched a simultaneous assault -- Sielg with another Sludge Bomb, and Typhoon shrieked out a Torment. That'd hopefully mess with the Ursaring even further.

The volley of attacks comes so quickly that Lucas can't even really follow - had Asemu been struck badly? He couldn't be sure. The Counter was still in effect upon his companion, though, so with any luck, she would be feeling the weight of her own blows if she struck.

Light Screen and Reflect have faded at this point, following three imaginary turns, and Lucas is on the verge of choosing to reapply them when --

"Ah!"

With a crackle, the Discharge releases and blasts everyone in the vicinity. Lucas and Avey stagger back, and Piyo keens as it falls out of the sky, being particularly weak. But it's not the fate of his Togetic that strikes him (though he rushes to catch her) more than it is...

"You... You're hurting your own Pokemon! Stop it!"

Electricity crackles around him - and not from the force of the Discharge, either. Lucas very rarely uses his potent psychic abilities to harm others, but PK Love ripples through him now, creating a dazzling display of light that rears out from his body to blast her. Essentially, a strong Psychic attack.

The combination of the woman's own carelessness and the barrage of attacks against the Ursaring and Primeape drop the both of them out like lights, little circles spinning in their eyes.

She jukes and takes a beam hit in the side, clothing melting under the heat...but the real trouble is from Lucas. In his anger he batters through her (deliberately) weak mental shielding and hits her weakness. The woman is hit hard by the psychic attack and hurled backwards into the side of the tower with a thunderous crash.

"GAH!" she belts out as she rebounds, and draws in her arms around her. A mighty wind begins to build up all around her body, a swirling and howling gale that keeps growing and growing. The mounting winds start to suck up nearby debris, drawing it into a cyclonic force all around her as she prepares a single powerful attack...

Now would be the time to either get out of the way, or to stop her for good...

This was bad... really bad. Duo waved for Shinigami to move away and head for the woman now.

"Quick! Use Astonish!" If the Duskull could get that in there before her, he might cause her to flinch and break the attack cycle. Her reaction to the Psychic move, though... he didn't know anything psychic, nor did any of his Pokémon right now.

Solo let out a Howl to help, as Duo stayed back to avoid getting hit by their moves in the process.

...Whoops.

In addition to the effect on their opponent, the attack takes a lot out of Lucas as well. He staggers somewhat from the force that had burst forth from him - and feels a vague pang of guilt, watching her blast away like that.

Well. At least she stopped.

The guilt fades quickly as she begins to charge up what will no doubt be an attack of epic proportions; Lucas is far too much of a goody-two-shoes to take this chance to devastate her with his powers. ...More pressingly, he's never used multiple bursts of PK Love in a row. Hesitating for only a moment, he pushes through his mental fatigue, restoring Piyo with Lifeup (Heal Pulse) and then running in the direction of the downed Ursaring and Primeape. One more strong strike, and they'd have worse than spinning stars in their eyes. ...If there were eyes left.

"Protect us!"

By this point, he's exerted so much psychic energy that he's trailing odd cyan, diamond patterns in his path - at his call, the geometric shapes loop and whirl about him mesmerizingly before coalescing into a flickering shield that rises high between him and the enemy: PSI Shield Omega, or perhaps more simply, what amounts to another Light Shield. Standing unflinchingly in front of the unconscious Pokemon with his arms spread wide, he exchanges a gaze with Avey. The small Pokemon looks incredibly unhappy about this decision.

"...You understand, right? ...Get back with Piyo."

For a brief moment, in the glowing light of the shield, he thinks he can see the image of a woman standing before him in the same pose...

Incidentally, if everyone else retreats, this probably places him far forward enough to defend them as well.

The wind currents knocked Asemu to and fro, but for the most part, he remained in control of his flight path. However, the winds pulling him in toward the woman were strong, so Asemu had to use more energy to keep from getting sucked in himself. He knew he had to stop her, and fast.

Dispersing the other beam saber, Asemu held both of his hands outward and focused as much energy into them as he could muster.

"You...will...STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!"

With that, he let loose with two beams of energy, one from each palm, each several times more powerful than anything he's let loose before now. And in addition to the beams, there was also a swirling effect on the air around them as they lanced across the battlefield.

Typhoon, meanwhile, threw another Leaf Storm into the mix. The wind would carry the leaves, yes, but if that brought them to her, then so much the better.

That looks like an ultimate attack right there. Someone should probably try and stop it from going off.

"Stop her, Little One!"

The Rhyhorn, still continually regenerating its HP and with boosted defenses, charges at Mary, intending to try and make her flinch with Stomp and trusting its weight to keep it from being blown away before it reaches her.

As the Rhyhorn charges Domri spreads his arms and teleports his other Pokémon to his side, shoving them into Pokéballs the moment they arrive. His body starts glowing as he charges his own teleportation. Since his Rhyhorn is carrying all his available buffs it's the only one of his group likely to survive getting hit by that attack if it ends up going off. If the attack fires Domri's going to teleport himself out of harm's way, then hopefully be able to pop back in while Mary's congratulating herself on winning and shove angry Pokémon in her face. If the attack is stopped? Well he can toss the Pokéballs at her and get angry Pokémon in her face that way.

Unfortunately for basically all the Pokemon that were trying to come into contact with the woman held aloft by the raging torrent of air...they just don't have the mass to get in close. Duskull is sent spinning backwards without any real effect, and the Howl is a bit ill-timed. Even Little One with his bulk? Isn't able to push through the debris the cyclone has collected...and really that's his own fault for smashing up all those barricades.

The energy beams do have more of an effect, burrowing deep into the cyclone and breaking up some of the debris, lancing into the woman's sides. It's not enough to stop her, they'd have needed to focus more on energy than physical, unfortunately...and with an exclamation of pain and tightly focused rage the attack goes off.

The cyclone, a veritable pillar of whirling air and shards of broken wood, stone, and metal explodes outward with a roar of wind, light, and deafening sound. It's a Hurricane many, many, many times more powerful than the Pokemon move as the enraged Enhanced gives in to her completely unstable nature. The rush shears shingles off nearby roofs, rattles the steel gate nearly off it's hinges, and sends splinters flying everywhere.

Lucas' shield holds, but barely, though he'll probably be straining to maintain any hold over either it or consciousness. Domri will get out of the way safely, but caught out in the open Duo and his Pokemon will be hurled backwards with incredible force. Good thing he's a ghost, right? As for Asemu...well...he was out in the open, so debris and wind batter away at him. Hopefully he won't end up hitting anything too hard.

As the dust settles though, those watching will spot Mary at the very epicenter, collapsed to her knees and panting. Blood runs in rivulets down her cheeks and she pants heavily before falling face first onto the ground, unconscious and completely spent. This leaves the gate tower completely unguarded, and the group should have no problems getting to the gun emplacements and turning it onto the incoming supply truck.

((OOC: Mission accomplished. I'll be happy to thread out anything further if you want to go nuts on the convoy though))

Once the winds die down Domri reappears next to Mary with the tip of his spear touching her back over her heart. He looks around in awe at the destruction.

"Krokt. I need to see if there are any Pokémon that can do something like that. That was wrecked. Hey, Little One!"

A section of debris collapses as the Rhyhorn is summoned to Domri's side, wounds visibly healing. He lets the rest of his team out of their balls, and is immediately yelled at by his Growlithe and Charmander. Judging by Domri's end of the conversation, the two Fire-types aren't exactly delighted by being yanked off of the battlefield and shoved into Pokéballs while still disoriented from being summoned.

Domri's execution of Mary has been delayed for the moment while he deals with these complaints.

It took a moment for Duo to get his bearings back. The world around him was still spinning a bit, but he noticed Domri.

"Hey! Wait!"

Was he going to kill her? He stood up carefully.

"What are you doing?"

The great shield crackles and sparks as the incredibly powerful attack strikes hard. Despite his efforts, Lucas cannot prevent the full force of the Hurricane from bursting through, though it is, at least, seriously mitigated. Cuts and scrapes from the buffeting winds and the debris they carry appear all around his body, but still, he stands firm.

"I won't... give up...!"

But even as he says it, a metal post twice Lucas's size comes hurtling through the air towards them. His eyes widen - Light Screen, of course, does not protect against physical damage.

As it flies towards him, he can only close his eyes and hope it doesn't hurt too much. Behind him, Avey cries out over the the hurricane winds.

"Veeeeeeee!"

And as if there wasn't enough chaos already, a flood of light erupts from the Eevee as it leaps forward...

Limbs lengthen, tail elongates, fur lightens... When the light clears, a fully formed Espeon stands in front of Lucas, eyes glowing a deep violet. In the next moment, the metal post hurtles away, tossed by the force of Espeon's psychic abilities.

Lucas himself can only stare.

"Avey......!"

And as the winds finally begin to die down and the shield flickers and vanishes entirely, Lucas staggers forward and collapses in a heap, from some combination of shock and psychic overload.

Looks like this one's a tie, at least on the child psychic's side.

...He won't be there to protest Mary's bloody murder too much, anyway.

Domri looks over, remembering that oh right there were other people here weren't there. He's momentarily confused about what Duo's asking about - does he mean what he's talking about with his Pokémon? - before he realizes that Duo's focusing more on the spear. He looks down at Mary, then back up at Duo.

"What do you think? I'm going to kill the enemy." Like, duh. "Did you want to kick her around a bit more first? Oh you want to share the killing blow, don't you? I guess you can hold the spear too if you really want to."

He got to her first there's really no reason he should have to wait for slowpokes like you.
divine_braid: (Woah!)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2015-06-06 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Why?" Duo started over, a little wobbly, but determined to stay upright. Which might be hard over certain kinds of debris. But he'd worry about that if he came across them. "She's down. There's no reason to kill her now. That would just be overdoing it."
radeonthecity: (unsure)

[personal profile] radeonthecity 2015-06-06 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Blink blink.

"It's a war. She's the enemy. You kill the enemy, grab a trophy from them, and show it off to everyone when you get back to camp. Haven't you ever done this before?"

Not that Domri has either but he knows how this is supposed to work.
divine_braid: (Things Just Got Weird)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2015-06-06 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
"No." Duo frowned. "That sounds pretty barbaric, though, don't you think?" He made a face, looking somewhat disgusted. "Maybe... I mean, there's still the convoy to think about. So, maybe we could, yanno, focus on that for now and think about this later when we've got some other people around to help us decide?"

You know, a distraction... right? Besides, they also still had to see if Lucas and Asemu were okay. And the other Pokémon.

As of now, Shin was floating back into the area, and Solo came up next to Duo now, whimpering a little.

"Not really." The barbarian doesn't consider himself to be barbaric. "What else are you going to do with someone who tried to kill you? Let them go so they can try and kill you again later?"

His face lights up at the reminder about the convoy.

"The convoy! Were we going to try and take stuff from it? Or just smash it all?"

He's obviously in favor of the smashing.

[OOC: As an FYI, at this point there's a good chance he'll just stab Mary and scamper off to get ready for the convoy, like using the spear to push off before skiing or something. Attempting a reasoned debate with someone who doesn't think about much too deeply can only go so far, so an alternate plan might be in order here.]
divine_braid: (Huh?)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2015-06-09 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
{Thanks for the tip!}

"Well, no... but we shouldn't kill her, either. We could maybe restrain her?"

He came closer now, maybe hesitantly, and went to redirect that spear.

"But, yeah. We have to make sure the convoy doesn't get in, right? But, we could use those supplies for ourselves. I don't see why we shouldn't take some of it." Duo was all about 'scavenging' stuff. "I say... stop the wagons, figure out what we can use, and just keep them from getting in... which may or may not include smashing, depending on how much resistance they give. How's that?"

Plus, they still had to check on the others....... that wasn't out of the back of his mind, yet.
