[There's been a sign posted in the window of the Tatsumi Gallery for a little while now, that passers by might have noticed.

Arts and crafts lessons.

Notes underneath talk more specifics:

[For further advertisement purposes, Kanji's been found handing out flyers, too, around the city: some of his smaller Pokémon have been joining in, dropping leaflets on whoever looks even vaguely artsy and/or craftsy.]

Free art classes: you interested? Anyone you know into this stuff?

[Later on though, on the day specified on the adverts, he can be found in the gallery itself. There's tables set up in an empty room, full of various bits and pieces to be used in projects and tuition: fabrics and threads and paints and crystals and all sorts.

If anyone shows up, he'll give them a friendly wave, if slightly nervous-]

Hey, Kanji!

[Predictably, Rise's enthusiastic as soon as she's in the door.]

Yo, Rise.

[He grins, trying to look as confident about this idea as he's not feeling.]

You shoppin', or come to the class?

Here for the class today! There's a lot of stuff I want to make now, but I haven't got any idea where to start.

[She breezes in, looking around and nodding.]

This is a nice setup you've got here!

[Eep, he's even more worried now about doing things right. But the compliment makes him smile-]

Eh, it ain't much. Most'f it's been sittin' around in a back room for ages.

Well, I bet I can make something great out of it with you to teach me.

[She grins.]

I hope I can, anyway. Things have been going really great with Asemu lately, and I wanted to try making him a gift.

[He scans the flyer]

Afraid my schedules' a little too busy...

[Sinbad's eyes flicked to the first item]

Huh? Is that common problem, clothes no longer fitting you on evolution?

Eh, ain't for everyone. But y'know, the folks who pick up wings or tails or all that stuff...

[He pauses, clearly picturing himself with either]

Wings would be pretty cool, not sure what use a tail would be. Bet you get some exclusive business from those with extra appendages.

[Kanji shrugs slightly-] Well, we ain't exactly tailors here. I just wanna help folks who can't drop a ton of cash to fix their wardrobe when it happens.

[He laughs for a moment.] Grew outta pretty much all my stuff when I did: I was there for weeks remakin' things...

[He grins slightly at that, making a note of the address of the Textiles]

That must've been a pain in the ass.

[With that, he puts his hand out, grinning broadly]

Before I forget to, my name's Sinbad.

Seriously. But ... eh, it was a fun pain in the ass. [Hand taken and shaken-] An' the name's Kanji.

[He nods, his grip was firm, but not trying to be crushing]

Pleasure to meet you. I still got some errands to run, but I think I'll drop by your store when I have some time.

Whenever's cool. We do a lotta general art stuff, but the textiles is a specialty.

[Maka...does not have the appearance of an artsy type at all, it just so happened that her Froslass snapped up one of the adverts and brought it to her. Aria's logic was that Maka likes learning new things and needs to go out of her comfort zone, surely this is one of the ways.

That would be a very good idea except for the fact that Maka still finds it difficult to approach strangers in the first place. Tatsumi Gallery isn't unknown to her, but the Tatsumis themselves are.

...Then again it's a good thing, that means her father never hit on the matriarch of the family and maybe she won't get immediately kicked out.

Still, she starts slightly at Kanji's greeting and gives an almost excessively vigorous nod in response. The Espurr in her arms and the Luxio at her side don't look any more social than their companion, the former looks nervous and the latter looks shy.]

Yes. I, um...I don't know a whole lot about this stuff, so please bear with me.

[Yeah, anyone hitting on Kanji's ma would have been thrown out the door within five seconds. Probably literally. Isn't it supposed to be parents who're protective over their children?

As it is, Kanji notices the slightly troubled look on everyone's faces, and smiles gently. He's new to this whole 'trying to show people what to do' thing himself and all...]

Everyone's gotta start somewhere. What d'ya wanna do first?

[Make no mistake, Spirit is protective of his daughter, and would probably flip out if he heard she was taking lessons from A BOY. But thinking about her dumb father anymore would probably cause her to get grouchy, so instead she takes the flyer out of her jacket pocket and indicates it.]

I noticed that you offered lessons on clothing alteration for people and designing for Pokemon. I haven't evolved yet--[Probably won't for a while, slow grower, yadda yadda, don't talk about that it's weird!]--but I feel like it'd be a useful thing to know about regardless. A-and my friends here, I think they'd like to have nice things to wear when we're going out, too. I know I used to have jackets here made for Stella--[meaning the Espurr, whom she points at]--when she was smaller, and making them myself from now on for her and my other friends like Ariel here--[the Luxio, obviously]--would be more...personal, I think.

[Hey, everyone evolves at their own pace. He won't judge.
... Given that he's currently having issues regarding his second evolution, yeah.

Kanji nods, looks at the group-]

Yeah, I totally get ya. I've always loved makin' stuff for my guys, and I think they like it better than just buying 'em things too.

[Kaido would like to think that his next evolution won't be a problem... but the closer he gets to it, the more he's getting a bad feeling about it.

Which is why, despite never having held a needle in his life, he's now staring at that flyer. Pondering... pondering...]

[Yeah, Kanji didn't think it was really Kaido's scene, but still...]

What're ya thinkin'? You know someone who'd wanna come?

... Yeah, me.

[You got a problem with that???]

[Chie is pretty much the opposite of craftsy, but she does come over to see what's going on when she spies Kanji and his Pokemon handing out flyers.]

You're doing classes now?

Givin' it a try.

[He scratches his head, awkwardly.]

I just kinda wanted to try usin' my talents for somethin' useful, y'know? ...Dunno how this is gonna work. Never thought I'd be doin' something like this.

[Chie has to hold herself back from shaking her head. She's always thought Kanji's talents were impressive and useful, but he's probably just working everything out for himself. Instead, she pulls her reaction back to a small smile as she leans to the side, one hand on her hip.]

Well, I think it's a great idea. Lots of people need stuff like this when they evolve and grow wings or a tail or whatever.

[Her expression does turn more inquisitive after a moment, though.]

So are you still joining up with the Rangers too, then? I remember you talking about that before.

I want to. Been gettin' in training. Just been havin' trouble getting things sorted out before I sign up, and I wanna check the age limits.

Yeah, I dunno about those. I joined up with the Swords right out of school after my 18th birthday, but I'm not sure how the Rangers do things.

Yeah... school's the thing. Ain't like some'f the teachers wouldn't wanna see the back of me anyway, but ma'd probably want me to actually finish properly...

...Least it means I'm gonna be ready by then.

[He laughs, a spot awkwardly.
...Hell. Chie'd probably wipe the floor with him, he thinks briefly, before pushing the thought as far to the back of his mind as he can.]

What sorts'a things did ya do in training there? I know it's gonna be different, but...

Running. Lots of running. Endurance stuff, weight training... things like that. A little bit of practice sparring. They try to keep new recruits pretty well-rounded.

Yeah, that makes sense. [Kanji nods, considering the situation.] Ya never know what you're gonna be doing.

I'd be surprised if the Rangers were much different, honestly. But I bet they probably have some stuff about wilderness survival skills, too.

Figures. I mean, that's the whole damn point of the job, knowin' how to handle things out there.

Yeah! I'm sure you'll do fine. You'll probably be really good at building shelters out of sticks and stuff.

[That's what Rangers do, right?]

[He laughs slightly-]

If I've gotta do that stuff, they're gonna be the best damn shelters out there!
