[He'd heard they had video on the Warp Bands but his old one hadn't had that feature. Maybe it's a good thing this one does.

Martin is in a room in the medical center when he starts it. Which is the problem. He died. He's not supposed to be back in the medical center two months later decidedly not dead and an Enlightened!

But he's back and now he has to adjust to these sharp little claw-nail-things on his fingers on top of everything else. What is his life?

Before Martin gets a chance to say anything, a Budew grabs the band and starts poking at it.]

No, Laterose, not right now.

[The Budew goes out of sight and Martin focuses it back on him with a sigh]

Um. I...I'm not quite sure what to say right now. I'm back? Is that what you say when you die and wake up two months later in the Forest? Is this normal for Enlightened?

[He clearly has more questions but cuts himself off]

Anyway. Could someone catch me up on the last two months?

[Elly had the opportunity to get to know quite a few of the patients in the time she spent working for the medical center, and for many she developed something of a strong bond with them. It was a double-edged sword, really; she loved to help, and to get to know them, but knew that some simply wouldn't make it. Martin's case was early in her time in Union, and the condition he was in when they got there...

Living on a battlefield, she knew what was going to happen. And yet she stayed with him, held his hand, until he slipped away. And well after. The man deserved to know that he wasn't alone in his last moments.

The name on the door didn't tip her off. As far as she knew, she was doing her typical rounds as a nurse, checking in on patients and making sure they were well taken care of. A tray of food in hand, she readjusted her grip before knocking a few times.]

I'm coming in.

[Turning around and opening it with her back, it took her a moment before she turned.]

I snuck you an extra portion of bread to go with your pumpkin sou--

[As she turned, Elly stopped, recognition on her face. But... But that was impossible. She saw him. She was there. And yet...]

[Martin had been wondering if he'd see Elly before being released.

Boar recognizes her and waves his ribbon. Laterose waddles over to investigate. Martin just smiles a little]

Hello.

[His pokemon were there as well. Was there something about Union that made the impossible possible? Elly didn't understand it. It takes her a moment before she can speak again.]

...How are you feeling?

[Maybe if she treats this like a normal visit, she can calm herself down. Thank goodness for that tray she's carrying, otherwise he might see her hands shaking.]

Hungry. Are you okay?

[Right. Food. That's why she came in here. Walking over to the bed, she sets the tray down on a table. Busying herself with getting him set up for a meal would probably at least calm her down somewhat.]

Me? I'm all right. A bit surprised, more than a bit confused, but I've learned not to question things that go on around here.

[All right, tray table in position, keeping busy with her hands really was helping quite a bit.]

I imagine you can eat on your own? Did you need any help?

No, I'm fine. I'm honestly healthier than I was when I died, according to the doctors, aside from the scars and being Enlightened now.

[He doesn't quite believe that she's fine, but he'll let her tell him she is]

And trust me, I'm still just as confused.

[She's really not, but she isn't going to let a patient know that. Instead she'll smile, putting his food within reach.]

You weren't Enlightened before?

No, but my father was Normal/Steel so I'm not too surprised that I'm Enlightened now. I just wish I didn't have to die for it.

That does seem a bit extreme. But you're here now, somehow, and in one piece.

[She has so many questions she wants to ask, but they would all be pretty inappropriate at the moment, so she'll bide her time.]

Can I get you anything else? Are you comfortable?

I'm fine for now, thank you. Ask me again in a day, I'll probably be ready to get out of here.

Unfortunately, these things take time. Usually more time than it seems necessary, but at least you'll be well-rested.

And incredibly bored. I'm not meant to sit around like this!

You could read. Or chat up the nurses, you seem good at that.

[She chuckles a bit.]

Both of those require sitting around--and I'm only good at friendly conversation, Elly. I'm awful at "chatting up" anyone.

[A pause.]

So you remember my name, huh? I wondered if you even heard anything at that point.

[He nods]

It was one of the last things I remember hearing--and even if I hadn't, Boar made sure I knew your name when I woke up. He wanted to make sure I thanked you.

[A long pause.]

Thank you, that means more than you'll know.

[Martin smiles]

I'm just glad I'm able to thank you.

[There's a bit of comfortable silence before she checks his chart.]

I'll see what I can do about getting you sped through. Everything looks good, so I imagine this is just an observation period, since I don't imagine we get people coming back like this.

Thank you. Even if I'm not allowed to leave the city for very long, I'd like to be able to move, you know?

I can probably get an order in to let you move around the campus as soon as today, at the very least. Maybe then we can work on making a case to break you out on good behavior. [She smiles with a bit of a wink.]
