[On the video screen this afternoon are Maya and Shinrei, decked up for Soul Fast. Both of them look rather excited.]

So, it's that time of the year again, everyone! Soul Fast is beginning, aaand I wanted to remind you guys that Ninetails Vale is selling masks and performing the usual ceremonies, as always.

[Maya seems just slightly disconcerted when in the background, Kuzuryuu and Ichigo begin talking.]

What’s a birthday, anyway?

Are you fucking kidding me, even a two-year-old could figure that one out from context.

[Maya clears her throat, rolls her eyes, and continues.]

For anyone unfamiliar with Soul Fast, it's the festival in which we celebrate the communion of the world of the living and that of the dead. It's a great time to honour lost loved ones, or beloved pokémon!

[She leans over and rubs Shinrei's back-scruff, making sure not to disturb her painted fur.]

God, I’m just wondering! What’s your problem, anyway?

I don’t have a problem! Seriously, do you have a brain in there, what else could a “birth day” be but the day someone’s born, moron?!

And what’s wrong with NOT knowing what it is?! I’ve got a brain, but I’m still trying to figure out all this human stuff, alright?!

...Um, anyway, like I said, this is a really important festival for ghost pokémon and the like, so remember to honour them with like, sweets and stuff.

[Have you ever seen a sulking Sword Ghost, Maya? Because that's exactly what Ichigo is doing - sitting on the floor and huffing to himself over stupid Kuuryuu making him get yelled at when all he did was ask a simple question.

Hitoshi, his shiny Ralts, at least has the good grace to look embarrassed for him. He looks up when Maya appears, gently asking her to take it easy on his trainer.]

'M fine, Hitoshi....Hi, Maya.

[Of course Maya melts when Hitoshi asks, her shoulders falling and her immediate instinct to sink to the floor on her knees and offer a hand to Hitoshi.]

I'm not mad.

[She stops, shakes her head.]

...Okay, I'm not that mad. It's not like it's all your fault.

[Or all Kuzuryuu's, either. A little bit of it is her fault, she's gathered.]

[Never one to be left out of anything festive, even if it means being socially acceptable, Ankh is probably wearing some borrowed robes from Rei's shrine and has a stylized Banette mask pushed up off of his face on the side of his head not covered in curls. He's outwardly being pretty grouchy and acting like he's unhappy to be dressed as such, but really he thinks the whole Soul Fasting thing is kind of interesting.]

What kind of things are these things to participate in? I expect the utmost spookiness from you, I'll have you know.

[Maya grabs the warp band and hurries to her banette twins, mumbling for them to look at Ankh's mask. It's like you two, see?

The banettes look quite excited, giggling behind their sleeve-like hands.]

Well, you know...when it came to my brothers and sisters what my mom and I would do is charge each of them a dollar every time they said something that continued an argument. Put the money in a jar, and let them see how much money and time they wasted.

Alternatively? Get a water sprayer. Spritz them every time they start up. Like you do with troublesome Espurrs and Lillipups.
