Attack on Sanctuary
It’s just after midnight when the column arrives outside of Sanctuary, shrouded in darkness under the pitch black of a new moon. Bordered by mountains to the north, the city has two primary gates to the West and the East, both of which are shut tight with massive oaken doors, centuries old and further secured with an antique portcullis. The city itself is surrounded by walls of stone, easily one-fourth the height of those found in Union and about twice the height of many of the homes, sturdy stone buildings with triangular roofs, about the same size as Calderan homes. Like Union, there are many towers within the city, but unlike Union, the towers are cold, aloof structures that stand alone with no connection to the other towers. The city itself is stone, cold, gray, and unfeeling, with small drops of light from streetlamps which line the streets, emitting an eerie blue-white glow. This is Sanctuary. Home of the Magi, conquered by Gigas for forty years. This is the city that must be reclaimed.
[OOC: If you did not choose to take the Pokeballs (you don’t have to have affirmed in an NPC thread, it’s entirely up to the character), they may have either 1 large Pokemon or 2 small Pokemon. A large Pokemon is classified as any Pokemon that is 4’ tall or long per the official Pokedex guidelines, anything smaller is considered a small Pokemon. Without the aid of Pokeballs the Pokemon will be required to be out and active throughout the log, and will not be able to be recalled or sent away if they are injured and must be carried if knocked out. As always, please limit yourself to 2 major actions in the log, and declare all Pokemon accompanying you in your first tag to a log. Lucas: Togetic and Eevee
Mistakes may have been made.
Still... There was no point in saying so now. Regardless of the mission, it was his duty to ensure that no one was hurt - if not that, to ensure that the wounds would cause minimal damage. And if that meant healing and protecting in the midst of combat, so be it.
"Ah - before we go further, can everyone hold still for a second?"
Piyo the Togetic is familiar with this routine by now. The boy, hands glowing a dark cyan, presses his hands against Piyo's... stubs, which gleam a faint corresponding yellow. The colors flicker for a moment before washing over everyone in the group - applying Light Screen and what amounts to Reflect, courtesy of Lucas's psychic abilities.

He was far more interested in seeing what they were up against. He felt sure he could blast through the barricades if need be, but his main concern was the searchlights.
"If we can take those lights out, we'll have a way easier time doing this."
[Team is Talonflame, Weezing, Gyarados, Shiftry, and Noivern.]
Domri: Rhyhorn, Beedrill, Ratata, Growlithe, Charmander
If Domri's at all nervous about this he's giving no sign of it; he seems more excited than anything, standing there with spear and shield in hand, and a pair of knives on his belt along with five empty Pokéballs and various healing items in belt pouches. He and the Pokémon who volunteered to ride in the Pokéballs are all wearing warpaint, and several of them are clearly itching to get down to business, shifting in place and glancing over at their trainer to check again if it's go time.
As Lucas's buff takes effect, Domri adds a couple of his own, reaching down and touching the Rhyhorn's back ridge. Red and green light flickers over its body for an instant. Power and Haste are now in effect on the Rhyhorn, boosting its Attack, Special Attack, Speed, and Evasion by one stage each.
Domri grins. Enough with the planning and preparation, it's time for the fun part.
"Rip it!"
The Rhyhorn charges at the first row of barricades, its goal being to smash through it and open a big gap for the rest of the forces to charge through. If its buffs leave it with enough momentum after breaking through, or there's enough space between rows for it to build up speed again, it'll try and smash another barricade, continuing this through as many layers as it can.
Domri and the rest of his team are already following after the vanguard, but they aren't likely to be fast enough to join combat this round.
24 Hour Advancement
Shouts of alarm go up, and the spotlights immediately swivel down to bathe the ground level in light!
A woman's voice bellows out orders from up in the main tower, audible down below.
"Stop them! Keep them away from the gate!"
Flashes of red light go up as the soldiers toss out some of their Pokeballs. A Palpitoad, Gothorita, and Primeape all appear and start in, rushing towards the oncoming Rhyhorn.
Palpitoad draws in a breath and blows out a Water Gun at the Rhyhorn, hoping to deal with it that way, while the Primeape leaps forward, using it's apelike reflexes to leap up onto the beast's back, and down in front of Domri, beating it's fists together and leading with a Karate Chop!
Gothorita though, seems to have a better grasp of strategy and hangs back, putting up a Light Screen of her own to cover the humans behind her that are trying to recover...
(Summary:
Palpitoad uses Water Gun on Rhyhorn
Primeape uses Karate Chop on Domri
Gothorita uses Light Screen)

"Avey! Give us more power. Piyo, take care of Gothorita."
Eevee leaps from Lucas's shoulders and performs a spectacular front flip over some of the party. The sound of a handclap rings through the air as light once more shines over the others; Helping Hand has boosted their power even further. In the meantime, the Togetic flaps over the melee brawlers and hovers a short distance away from Gothorita, clapping and gasping in awe, rather inappropriate for the situation. Still, the Encore will prevent it from doing anything useful for a while.

Domri may not be the strongest fighter, or even close, but speed and good reaction time are things he does have going for him. He leaps to the side, bringing up his shield just in case he doesn't manage to get out of the way in time and jabbing at where he thinks the Primeape will be with his spear. Since he's focusing more on dodging it's not likely to be a particularly good strike, but it's something at least.
"Yaro, lights!"
The Beedrill flies higher and heads for the spotlights. Conveniently, it looks like they're no longer aimed at the sky, just like most of the soldiers' attention likely is.
The Growlithe and Charmander each head for the nearest target, whether soldier or Pokémon, that's not in convenient range for the Palpitoad, both using Flame Charge.
The Ratata has terrible stats and is still on its way to the battle.

"Sielg, block the lights with a SmokeScreen! Typhoon, Leaf Storm!"
The Weezing floats up higher into the air and lets loose a blast of thick gas. Hopefully that would give them cover from the lights while Asemu moved around to try and snipe them.
Meanwhile, the Shiftry let loose with a full-blast Leaf Storm at the Palpitoad. Eliminating an ally's weaknesses was his goal.
24 Hour Advancement
Charmander and Growlithe both manage to get a hit in on the soldiers too, while Domri's wide strike manages to clout the Primeape good...which only makes it mad! The lights don't survive the attack of the Beedrill and the obscuring smokescreen, becoming essentially a non-issue. Likewise with the Gothorita, who just uses the psychic encore to keep putting up that useless screen...
All of this only serves to draw a bellow of rage from the tower.
"YOU IDIOTS! DON'T LET THEM INTO THE TOWER! DO I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING MYSELF?!"
A Pokeball flies out a window, and out comes an enormous and angry looking Ursaring. The huge bear barrels past the group, aiming for the trainers not currently preoccupied with a Primeape. It jukes once as it plows towards the back row like a freight train, swinging an arm at Asemu in a Feint Attack! Lucas, for the moment? Seems beneath it's notice.
no subject
"Counter!"
Asemu would do well to once again pay little attention to the psychic lights that seem to spiral around him as they won't harm him. Ursaring, on the other hand, may find that every blow it strikes seems to cause it just as much pain as it causes Asemu, as the psychic shield reflects a portion of the damage.
no subject
Asemu was knocked back on the seat of his pants, but he was at least quick to react. He extended his palms and pumped out a few beams at the Ursaring's exposed belly, beneath Sielg's floating form.
no subject
The Charmander continues biting and scratching at its current soldier, looking to leave them with scars or other permanent injuries, rather than go after another target. The Growlithe likewise sticks to its current target, looking to go for the throat or otherwise eliminate the possibility of this particular soldier threatening them any time soon.
The Beedrill keeps flying to try and get a look at whoever's yelling from the tower.
The Rhyhorn turns and charges at the nearest enemy or important-looking breakable object.
The Ratatta finally reaches the battle and attempts to Bite the nearest target. Its terrible stats mean that this will likely be more a painful distraction than anything else.
no subject
The soldiers, faced with the Rhyhorn and the dread fangs of a Ratatta that is in the top percentages of Ratatta, start to turn tail and flee...and the Primeape charges in, angered by it's master's cowardice.
All of this prompts a disgusted snarl from up in the tower, and finally the resident Enhanced in Charge makes her presence known. A tall woman with dark blue hair explodes out of a window, dropping down to hover some ten feet off the ground, hand blazing with a pale green light.
"You know what they say. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!"
The viridian hand extends and a full powered Energy Ball flies right at the Rhyhorn, while her other hand begins to spark and chitter. Bioelectric lightning surrounds her fist and she casually waves it in the general direction of Asemu and Lucas. An Electroweb ripples through the air down at the duo, hopefully catching them in it's clutches.
Casually turning to look over her shoulder, she sneers at the men running into the tower.
"And you idiots I'll discipline later."
no subject
It figures. Of course there would be Enhanced. Gigas was sure to keep a few for itself, after all -- at least, those who aren't unstable.
Sielg willingly took the hit, retaliating with a point-blank Sludge Bomb aimed at the Ursaring's face.
Asemu, meanwhile, was more concerned with the web. Electricity. Wonderful. After hissing a quick "Get on!" to Lucas, Asemu leaped into the air in an effort to fly over the Electroweb. He also created a pair of beam saber blades emanating from his hands to slash it apart if he failed.
no subject
Get on... Asemu? Get on Weezing? ...That didn't seem like the best idea. As Lucas blinks in surprise at this command, he'll hesitate in grabbing for his companion or whatever else he was supposed to do here. ...Needless to say, he doesn't exactly avoid the attack with any sort of promptness.
"Mmgh!"
The attack stings as it strikes, but his Light Screen is still in effect and minimizes the damage. More to the point, he finds his feet occasionally crackling with electricity, hampering his motions. No matter, though - he wasn't too badly hurt.
"Avey, Piyo! Disable her!"
At his command, Avey dashes forward, throwing up a blast of Sand Attack to cloud her vision while Piyo waves goodbye to Gothorita and blows a Sweet Kiss towards the strange woman from behind.
no subject
The Beedrill was surprised by the human jumping out of a window, but quickly recovers and dives at the Enhanced woman's back, using Fury Attack.
no subject
Asemu will have more success cutting the Electroweb, and the Ursaring claws at the muck currently clinging to it's face, bellowing angrily and Thrashing about, smashing what little remains of the barricades, the Primeape, and the nearby Rhyhorn. It may not be effective, but with the level difference, Rhyhorn will probably feel that in the morning.
The woman reacts with blistering speed and almost casually snaps a hand out to blast the attacking Beedrill with a Gust, blowing it away!
"Bugs? Really? Tch. Children."
Diving down, she flies right at Asemu, Acrobatically juking up and over him at an angle, slamming him with a vicious barrage of kicks and punches directed at his hands and upper arms. When she clears him, the bioelectric field around her pulses and releases a Discharge all around her, completely unconcerned even for the Ursaring and Primeape below...
no subject
"Alright, let's do this, guys..."
The Houndour let loose a Smog attack at Primeape and the Duskull used Night Shade on the Ursaring.

no subject
Wow. She was fast.
Luckily, so was he.
Asemu twisted around, and with a combination of jukes and his beam saber blades, did his best to avoid being hit as much as he could. He was pretty clearly on the defensive, though, and was trying to get out of close combat range, especially when the Discharge came out. Flying backwards as fast as he could go, Asemu released one of the beam saber blades and let loose with a continuous, long-range beam shot from one of his hands.
Sielg, meanwhile, hovered backwards to try to keep out of the Ursaring's range. He and Typhoon, Asemu's Shiftry, then launched a simultaneous assault -- Sielg with another Sludge Bomb, and Typhoon shrieked out a Torment. That'd hopefully mess with the Ursaring even further.
no subject
Light Screen and Reflect have faded at this point, following three imaginary turns, and Lucas is on the verge of choosing to reapply them when --
"Ah!"
With a crackle, the Discharge releases and blasts everyone in the vicinity. Lucas and Avey stagger back, and Piyo keens as it falls out of the sky, being particularly weak. But it's not the fate of his Togetic that strikes him (though he rushes to catch her) more than it is...
"You... You're hurting your own Pokemon! Stop it!"
Electricity crackles around him - and not from the force of the Discharge, either. Lucas very rarely uses his potent psychic abilities to harm others, but PK Love ripples through him now, creating a dazzling display of light that rears out from his body to blast her. Essentially, a strong Psychic attack.
no subject
She jukes and takes a beam hit in the side, clothing melting under the heat...but the real trouble is from Lucas. In his anger he batters through her (deliberately) weak mental shielding and hits her weakness. The woman is hit hard by the psychic attack and hurled backwards into the side of the tower with a thunderous crash.
"GAH!" she belts out as she rebounds, and draws in her arms around her. A mighty wind begins to build up all around her body, a swirling and howling gale that keeps growing and growing. The mounting winds start to suck up nearby debris, drawing it into a cyclonic force all around her as she prepares a single powerful attack...
Now would be the time to either get out of the way, or to stop her for good...
no subject
"Quick! Use Astonish!" If the Duskull could get that in there before her, he might cause her to flinch and break the attack cycle. Her reaction to the Psychic move, though... he didn't know anything psychic, nor did any of his Pokémon right now.
Solo let out a Howl to help, as Duo stayed back to avoid getting hit by their moves in the process.
no subject
In addition to the effect on their opponent, the attack takes a lot out of Lucas as well. He staggers somewhat from the force that had burst forth from him - and feels a vague pang of guilt, watching her blast away like that.
Well. At least she stopped.
The guilt fades quickly as she begins to charge up what will no doubt be an attack of epic proportions; Lucas is far too much of a goody-two-shoes to take this chance to devastate her with his powers. ...More pressingly, he's never used multiple bursts of PK Love in a row. Hesitating for only a moment, he pushes through his mental fatigue, restoring Piyo with Lifeup (Heal Pulse) and then running in the direction of the downed Ursaring and Primeape. One more strong strike, and they'd have worse than spinning stars in their eyes. ...If there were eyes left.
"Protect us!"
By this point, he's exerted so much psychic energy that he's trailing odd cyan, diamond patterns in his path - at his call, the geometric shapes loop and whirl about him mesmerizingly before coalescing into a flickering shield that rises high between him and the enemy: PSI Shield Omega, or perhaps more simply, what amounts to another Light Shield. Standing unflinchingly in front of the unconscious Pokemon with his arms spread wide, he exchanges a gaze with Avey. The small Pokemon looks incredibly unhappy about this decision.
"...You understand, right? ...Get back with Piyo."
For a brief moment, in the glowing light of the shield, he thinks he can see the image of a woman standing before him in the same pose...
Incidentally, if everyone else retreats, this probably places him far forward enough to defend them as well.
no subject
Dispersing the other beam saber, Asemu held both of his hands outward and focused as much energy into them as he could muster.
"You...will...STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!"
With that, he let loose with two beams of energy, one from each palm, each several times more powerful than anything he's let loose before now. And in addition to the beams, there was also a swirling effect on the air around them as they lanced across the battlefield.
Typhoon, meanwhile, threw another Leaf Storm into the mix. The wind would carry the leaves, yes, but if that brought them to her, then so much the better.
no subject
"Stop her, Little One!"
The Rhyhorn, still continually regenerating its HP and with boosted defenses, charges at Mary, intending to try and make her flinch with Stomp and trusting its weight to keep it from being blown away before it reaches her.
As the Rhyhorn charges Domri spreads his arms and teleports his other Pokémon to his side, shoving them into Pokéballs the moment they arrive. His body starts glowing as he charges his own teleportation. Since his Rhyhorn is carrying all his available buffs it's the only one of his group likely to survive getting hit by that attack if it ends up going off. If the attack fires Domri's going to teleport himself out of harm's way, then hopefully be able to pop back in while Mary's congratulating herself on winning and shove angry Pokémon in her face. If the attack is stopped? Well he can toss the Pokéballs at her and get angry Pokémon in her face that way.
