Log // Flowers & Bug Spit

Who: Michiru (

incousinswithyou) & her Budew, Haruka (

actsmagnificent) & her Sewaddle, Hawke (

hawkethat) & his beard, possibly others. It is happening in a public place, after all. Feel free to have witnessed this.
What: Hawke promised to tolerate having leaves and flowers stuck to his face and hair with bug spit. I mean MAKE-OVERS. Because Michiru's Budew is too adorable okay.
Where: The park
When: Gently backdated to sometime last-weekish.
Warnings: None, unless you're afraid of bugs.

[Here is Hawke, chilling in the park with his two puppy pals and waiting for his new bestie Michiru to show up with her Budew so he can indulge the tiny little grass pokemon with its desire to make people over. The Houndour and the Lillipup are frolicking together in the sun while Hawke looks on, seated on the ground with his back against the trunk of a shady tree.]

[heh] The sun it is. [the Grass types have spoken, apparently]

[ Haruka laughs and settles down. The sun is better for an artist anyway, right? It gives him a more accurate impression of the colors involved. ]

I'm guessing you heard this is nothing fancy. [ Hey, Sewaddle would beg to differ! He's already crawling over towards Hawke (having first scaled Mount Haruka then climbed down again) to get that closer look at his "canvas". You want to be made pretty? Hm. This might take flowers, not just leaves. ] Sewa. Sewa sewaddle.

[ Budew, you've got a good eye for this. Are there any flowers around we can use? In the meantime, he will pull out -

a leaf! ]

I have a younger sister who liked to do makeovers when she was five or six. She'd make me sit for her when she couldn't catch my twin.

[Translation: he's pretty sure he knows what he's getting into. And he fully expects he's going to have to set his head on fire later. Not that he's going to say any of that in front of the pokemon.]

Go for it.

[That last remark was addressed to Sewaddle. BIG BROTHER MODE IS GO. Do your best, Sewaddle!]

[Budew beams and scurries off to find things to stick onto Hawke.

Michiru, on the other hand, settles down next to Haruka.]

You're still with us, I see. [poignant observation, Michiru. What are you trying to get at?

Budew returns and deposits a small offering of pink flowers on the ground.] Bu!

[ Oh, oh boy, the heat is on now. People are depending on him. People are actually asking for him to make them pretty. Usually this is a volunteer service.....Quick, what does his Trainer do when she's excited?

He twists his head back to Haruka, who meets his slightly worried gaze with a level one. That's right! His Trainer always remains calm! In that case, he will stay calm too.

Sewaddle takes a great big breath, puffing up his little body, and turns to look at what Budew's found. Those are beautiful, Budew! He feels inspired. ] Sewa!

[ Picking up a flower, he triumphantly affixes the leaf to the back of it with just a teensy bit of his silk. Adding another dollop to the back of this combination, he inches forward to climb Hawke's arm and tuck his first creation behind the man's ear. That facial fur needs some sprucing up, but accents are extremely important, too. ] Sewaddle.

[ Let's make a little system, Budew! Can you pass him leaves and flowers as he needs them? Or do you want to take one side while he does the other?

Haruka doesn't particularly have anything to add to the conversation, save leaning and grinning when Michiru speaks, so she'll watch the proceedings in the meantime. ]

You're not disappointed, I hope? [poignant indeed.]

[He sits perfectly still while Sewaddle scales his arm and glues the first leaf-flower combo behind his ear, trying not to laugh at the sensation of tiny little bug feet tap-tapping along his skin.]

Are there any yellow ones? Am I allowed to make requests?

[That's addressed to both Budew and Sewaddle, who are perfectly free to use his suggestion or ignore it as they choose.]

[Budew beams, passes Sewaddle one last flower, and then hops away to find some other colors! Gee, she sure is happy to be part of this wonderful endeavor!]

Hardly. I could always use the company. [and maybe a babysitter.] What do you think of Union, thus far?

[and Budew is scurrying back and forth, depositing small yellow flowers, bigger yellow flowers, a dandelion or two, a fully uprooted yellow tulip with dirt still attached to the roots...]

You're new? [ That's news to Haruka, and she's actually interested. She's not sure how she feels about all these new people in town, but this guy seems decent. He's good with the Pokémon, which seems sincere. ~~Not to mention platonic with Michiru, which is refreshing.~~

--goodness, Budew, you're spoiling Sewaddle. Down he treks to examine his new material, pulling out more leaves, comparing sizes, muttering "sewa sewa" to himself as he works....Yes. If he puts this one here, and this one here...

You'll be getting a mix of yellow and pink flowers affixed in your beard, Hawke, but he's giving yellow a slight preference. If that's your favorite color, it should make you extra-happy. ] Waddle. Swa. Sewaddle...

[ The artist is completely absorbed in his work. ]

[Lol, wow, that sure is an uprooted tulip...]

Tripped and landed on my face here last week. [In response to Haruka's question.] All I've managed to learn is that home probably isn't northeast of here, which is kind of helpful, but not really.

[Hopefully all this talking isn't disrupting Sewaddle's hard work too much...]

I'm getting used to it. [To answer Michiru's question.] Sergeant's adapting faster than I am, though. [And as if that was his cue, Sergeant the Houndour trots up to investigate, trailed by the enthusiastic and tiny Lillipup he'd been romping with earlier. Everyone gets a friendly sniff and tail wag from both canines. Enjoy!]

Why, hello there. [Michiru smiles and offers a hand up to the dogs in greeting.]

You're certainly looking better than last time. [more groomed, and less of that "I just spent a month in the wilderness" look.

Budew beams at the doggies. Hey guys, want to help her ~~dig up half of Union~~ find more flowers?]

[ Oh, look, puppies. Haruka smiles at their energy, and Sewaddle thinks this development over for a moment before taking a break from Hawke's beard and affixing a leaf to each dog in turn. Now we are friends. All of us. Together.

...what should he do with this tulip? ]

They do learn new tricks fast. [ Has she got...oh, here. Haruka pulls a Sitrus Berry from her pocket, tosses it in the air, and catches it before sending it flying for Lillipup. Go play fetch! ] What d'you think you'll do?

Well, thank you! I've had several showers and changes of clothes since last time. I'm happy to hear they seem to have worked. [And he's had enough time to distance himself from the disaster that was his appearance and make a joke of it. W E L P.

Meanwhile, neither dog has any objection whatsoever to making new friends! If sticky leaves are symbols of friendship, then that is okay with them! Sergeant and Paladin will wear their leaves proudly, like badges of honor!]

Perhaps the tulip would do better if we replanted it. Since it still has its roots, and all.

[That's directed at Sewaddle, in case anyone was wondering.

Paladin's eyes go sparkly at the sight of the Sitrus Berry in Haruka's hand, and she takes off at top short-legged scamper after it, eager for the snack! (Haruka wasn't really expecting to get her berry back, was she?) With his tiny fluffy pal occupied, Sergeant will take the opportunity to sniff inquiringly at Haruka's hand. You did bring enough to share, right? If not, he will turn his attention to helping Budew ~~dig up half of Union~~ find more flowers.]

I think I might join the Rangers. It's starting to look like I may be stuck here longer than I'd like, so I might as well do something useful while I am.

[Michiru smiles at that.] I knew there was a person under all that dirt.

[alright, Budew feels maybe a little bad for the tulip. Maybe they can take it home?

Hmm. Rangers, huh? At least that could tie in nicely with searching for your village.]

[ It does so happen that Haruka has an Aspear Berry, too. ~~It just sort of....aspeared.~~ Go grab it, Sergeant! It's flying through the air! ]

Glad we could provide camouflage. [ Sewaddle returns to his masterpiece. Hm. It's unbalanced if he only puts leaves and flowers in Hawke's beard. He must boldly summit....his new friend's entire head. Up he goes. Sorry about the bug feet using your ear as a foothold. ] Sewaddle.

The Rangers are...good at what they do. It's an important profession.

[ Read: I have gotten very, very good at evading Rangers, between being a hotshot Rhyhorn rider and a member of a secret exploration cult. Nothing personal.

Meanwhile, from up here, Sewaddle has had...a brilliant idea. Budew! Budew! Can you hear him?? ] Sewa!

[Yesssss, something to chase! Sergeant happily turns round and pursues that berry. His legs are a lot longer than Paladin's, and he's a lot less fluffy, so he doesn't look nearly as silly when running as the Lillipup.]

I'm glad you did. I would've had my doubts if I'd been in your place.

[Hawke's already got bug spit all over his face and beard, what's a bunch of little bug feet on his ear? He makes sure to stay still to make Sewaddle's climb as easy as possible.]

They seem to do a lot of the kinds of things I would do anyway. Might as well join up and get the benefits, too.

Budew bu? [hi Sewaddle! How's the weather up there?

Michiru laughs quietly, hiding her smile behind a hand.]

At least chasing down lost people - or rumors - will keep you busy enough.

[not even going to glance at Haruka here]

Sewaddle! Sewa wa sewaddle wa! [ Budew, what if, what if....while Sewaddle worked on the beard....you put together a flower crown? He'd help you with silking it all together if you needed! Or they could both work on it when the beard was done! There are so many possibilities.

Haruka doesn't look at Michiru either, though she does lean a little more in her partner's direction. ] Sounds fun.

I sure hope so. But I guess I'll find out.

[He reaches up absently with one hand to gingerly pat at the flowers in his beard...and his fingers comes away sticky with bug spit. Uh. That's probably not a good sign.

Maybe the flower crown Sewaddle is planning will go over better...or at least, with less adhesive in his hair.]

What do the two of you do around here for fun and profit?

[uwah! This human is going to be so pretty!! Budew runs off to choose more flowers (daisies, maybe). ~~Hey, where'd that tulip go...?~~

Hey, Michiru warned you about the bug spit.]

We're both with the Union Divine Theater. [heh] It's a living.

[they're both also insanely rich, but whatevs.]

[ Oh, dear, has he been oversilking? Sewaddle will have to be careful. For now, he climbs down to fiddle with the flowers and do a bit of damage control. Okay...there. ] Wad.

Nothing says "support civilization" like wearing outdated clothes and saying somebody else's dialogue. [ ...That was probably a bit too cynical. Haruka adjusts how she's seated on the grass, and now her smile seems a bit more sincere. ] Too bad you didn't get lost sooner. You missed our last show.

Thanks. [So considerate, Sewaddle! Hawke appreciates it.

Also, wow, somebody's sarcastic, over there.]

That is too bad. When's your next one?

[and Budew's back, placing flowers on the ground in a circular pattern. But wait...she hops onto Hawke's knee, trying to get closer and ascertain how big his head is.] Buuu?

[she leans in a little, nudging Haruka with a shoulder.]

We're having a bit of a break. Goodness knows the crew needs to recover from the stress.

Sewa. [ Sewaddle gestures. Hawke's head is thiiiiiiis big, Budew! Does that help?

...Okay, yeah, between Michiru teasing her and the partners in crime, it's hard to be self-effacingly sardonic no matter how silly Haruka finds her day job. ] It works out. Your new look's courtesy of the costume department.

[ It'd be good for Sewaddle to feel like he is part of something bigger, and he did do a nice job on his cape for the Pokémon play. Maybe...if Setsuna's okay with it....she'll see if the other woman wants a small, overeager apprentice. ]

[Here, Budew, Hawke will lift you up so that you can get a better view. And possibly also make it easier to confer with partner-in-crime Sewaddle.]

The costume department is a Budew and a Sewaddle?

[That's not a serious question, by the way. Or at least, it's mostly not serious. Also, he's starting to get the feeling he's missing out on an inside joke.]

[whoaaa. Hey, your head is like a Budew-width in circumference. Did you know that, beard human?]
