Yo! Union, I got a question for you.

Okay, so, the thought just came to me [No inspiration or anything..] I got these two little guys here. [He holds his Nidorans up in his arms, either Doug is a really small guy or the Nidorans are oversized...

Anyway--] So for years I've wondered this, maybe some of you Enlightened guy can help me out. Why do they both say "Nidoran"?

[The male Nidoran goes "Nido" at that and the female goes "Ran" both seeming rather happy in their masters arms.] Is one of them shiny? I don't think so, I mean, that's just a color thing.. right?? This one is a legitimate different shape and size, they can't both be the same pokemon.

They both know different attacks too.. one's a boy and the others a girl just so you know. This is Nigel [He lifts the male Nidoran, facing him--] and this is Nina [--then he lifts the female.]

But.. doesn't that sound a little weird to you? Aren't most pokemon pretty much the same looking no matter their gender or whatever?

Nidoran differ based on gender. There are Pokemon that look different based on gender. It's not really that unusual.

Do you think all male and female humans look the same, for example?

Well...no! [Hey, you can't expect everyone to just know stuff, lady.] But you can't tell me that most pidgey just look like pidgeys -- male or female..

Course, there is that female only Pokemon down at the clinic so I guess that makes sense. They've just always said Nidoran.. they both like wearing bows and being pet. I'm not sure what type they are either.. maybe normal? That's what attacks they know.

[Doug plz. She didn't even go to school and she knows this.]

No, but they all have very similar characteristics. Some species look very distinctly different depending on gender, usually for mating purposes.

[She hmms.]

I think there are some Enlightened who might be able to tell you that. What type they are.

Whow! These two are not going to be mating, they are twins. Totally off limits under my roof. [You mean Blossom's roof, Doug? You live at home...]

Certain Enlightened, huh? Well, I'm glad I asked or else I wouldn't have known.

Well obviously, not if they're siblings. But not all males and females are related. [Duh.]

Not from Union, I take it?

... Nah, I lived outside Union for most of my early life.. before Mama Blossom adopted me.. [He scratches the back of his head..]

You too? How far outside Union? Like I said, my parents used to live quite a few miles away.

I don't really know, it's hard to say. Pretty far.

I was mostly home schooled my whole life if you even want to call it that, everything I know is about buying, selling, and delving for the right goods so sorry if my question seemed stupid.. I don't know much about pokemon.

I came from a village of Pokémon and shifters, and I don't know anything about any of the things you just said. It's all about what you're raised around.

[She's still kind of side-eyeing about the male/female thing, though.]

Oh, whow, wow... yeah, I'd say that was far away. So you're one of those shifter enlightened? What do you shift into?

[rydiaofmist]

[It's kind of endearing, actually.]

My mother and father were shifters, but I'm not.

[riceaboo]

Ohhh! I get it, yeah my.. my parents where Enlightened by I'm not. It happens... [He's not spiteful over it or anything, but remembering the things they could do really brings back those memories-- you know?]

[A gentle smile crosses her face. She totally understands.]

What were they like? Your parents?

[riceaboo]

M-My parents..? [He scratches the back of his neck] Well, my mom was a delver, my father was an engineer.. and they could be pretty crazy when they wanted to be ahah. They were always obsessed with finding things and seeing how they worked together, formulas and history..

Never really understood engineering myself.. What about your parents? Was it strange living with shifters?

[She shakes her head.]

Not at all. Most everyone in my village were either Shifters or Pokemon, so honestly, it's more strange living in a city full of relatively-ordinary humans.

[riceaboo]

Aha, well, you do have a point there then. Course, I don't know many shifters but living with the ability to become a Pokemon is way different than simple being human. Did you folks have shops and businesses out there in the middle of now where? That's my talent.

[rydiaofmist]

Sort of. Not in the same way as Union. People here seem to have a big focus on money, where that wasn't so much a thing where I'm from. We helped each other because we were asked, not because we were paid to do so.

[riceaboo]

That can work too, you know? One good service for another, I think everything has someway of making profile even if we're not exchanging money. --And with goods or services being exchanged we're being more and more useful by the second.

Always keep things moving, that's true for a lot of things. People, pokemon, goods, and your skills. So even though it doesn't sound like they used money, that doesn't mean they weren't doing business.

But everyone seems so focused on money here, instead of the exchange that you're talking about. It's ridiculous.

Money is sort of an exchange, they need it for something else. Most people aren't looking for money exactly, they are looking for what it can get them.

Sounds less evil that way, it really is just an exchange made a little easier.
