Thespians for Sale! (Date Auction)

Almost there! It had taken them the better part of a year, but the Union Divine Theater had nearly been restored in the aftermath of Kyurem’s attack. As a historic monument, they had to be careful to only use period-appropriate building materials, and employed only the finest craftsmen. But now they’re nearly ready for business again.

So of course, they’re holding a fundraiser. And, of course, it’s a date auction.

Not just any date auction, though! The courtyard has been taken up with several small tables, behind which each thespian being raffled off is seated. Interested bidders are welcome to chat with the “prizes” or to check out the long line of tables across from the auction decorated with several super-classy glass jars. Each jar has a person’s name on it, and a small watercolor picture of the person in question next to it. These individuals have volunteered (or been volunteered) to serve as extra dates - just buy a ticket from the Slowking and the Wooper at the end of the tables and you can enter to win!

Small placards scattered throughout the event specify that all “prizes” must be 18 years or over, and that all dates must be family-friendly. All “prizes” also have the option, if they desire, of specifying which gender of date they prefer. Additionally, while the humans mingle, their Pokémon are encouraged to chat with the Nidoking who’s waiting just inside the theater. He’s giving tours of the stage area complete with the option of putting on a production! Be sure to tell your Trainers to buy tickets to the Theater’s next show!

The event will run all day, with bidding starting at $25 (Union currency). Are you ready to make a new friend??

[[ OOC: The date raffle and auction is live! Please follow the instructions beneath each top-level below. Each character being auctioned will have their own auction thread, where all bids go for that character - threadjacking is encouraged, and a mingle thread where people can talk to that character. Each character being raffled has their own section for people to note they’ve put in a ticket, but these can all be replies to the top-level. Each character being raffled also has their own spot for mingling. OOCly, results for the auctions and raffles will be announced in about a week.

Pokémon interested in performing on stage can leave top-level comments in the section at the bottom of the post. Their scene partner tags in with a result from the RP Scenario Generator: this is the scene the two Pokémon are encouraged to act out. An assortment of costume pieces, sets, and props are available. [ Loken stands aloof, mingling mostly by being like a great island in the midst of the rest of those moving about and gossiping. He hasn't much seen the point, but he'd be remiss not to at least try to be a little less stiff. It isn't working. ]

[Well, after a little bit, Mei just starts wandering around and just happens to miss the rather large gentleman standing there like...well...a great grey island. Mostly because her little Vanillite has her attention as it scampers from spot to spot, holding her glasses hostage. Like a jerk.

And because she can't see well, the tiny woman in her enormous coat bumps into Loken and literally bounces off, landing with a whuff.]

Wahh!!! [Shaking her head, she blinks around...] Did I...hit a wall?

Ah. No! I'm sorry. You seem to have bumped into me [ He kneels and offers her a gentle hand up. ]

Are you all right?

[snowboots]

[Shaking her head, Mei takes the hand (since it's about all she can see) and kips up.]

I'm just fine. Sorry about that. I'm blind as a Zubat when I don't have my glasses, and Snowball's run off with them.

[From behind Loken, the little troublemaker chirps happily, wagging the glasses.]

Would you like me to ask Snowball to give them back?

[ He half turns, and gives the Zubat a faintly reproving look. A Riolu ambles over to it, giving the glasses a sniff, then dismisses them as not armor. ]

[snowboots]

Yes. That'd be nice. I can't see him to ask...and he's being naughty.

[The Vanillite looks at Loken and the Riolu, confused. Were you going to stop his fun?]

[ The Riolu will walk up and put a paw by Mei's hand, as if to guide her to the Vanillite, willing to be the spoilsport it's partner won't quite be. ]

Are your Pokemon normally, ah.. inclined to mischief?

[snowboots]

[Mei'll definitely follow, and when she gets near enough to the troublemaker to touch, she grabs the glasses and puts them on. Riolu gets a nod, and then she turns and looks up. And up. And up...at the stranger.]

Well, it's only Snowball right now. I don't have much of a team anymore. But he's always been trouble. Which, really, is okay. It's just his personality.

[She bows her head three times in rapid succession, hairpin swaying, the motion nimble despite the coat.]

Thank you for your help, Sir.

I understand. My companions can be somewhat... quirky themselves.

[ At which point an Anorith also tips up to the conversation, moving on it's claws and chittering at Mei. Obviously looking for a sucker who will feed it. ]

[snowboots]

[Mei's hands ball up and she peers down at Anorith, happily smiling at it.]

Oh! It's so cute!

[A face only a weirdo could love.]

Does it have a name? And your Riolu, too?

This one is Hongo. [ He gestures towards the Anorith, who chitters at him. He sighs, and hands it a cracker. The cracker is in fact also covered with pepper. He has come prepared for the predilections of his companion, it would appear. ]

And this one is known as Jotaro. [ The Riolu poses and points at Mei, looking very fierce. ]

[snowboots]

Oh! Well it's nice to meet them.

[Mei bounces on the balls of her feet, head bobbing up and down a few times.]

My name is Mei. And this little troublemaker is Snowball. Who are you, sir?

I am Garviel Loken, of the Steel battalion. It is a pleasure to meet you, miss Mei. Unless you are a Mrs, in which case, forgive my mistaking your status.

[ He is utterly still as he speaks, like a mobile wall that has come to rest in the midst of the Theater. ]

[divine_braid]

You might wanna try talking to someone. It helps you look less like a boulder in a river.

[Duo grinned.]

Is that how I appear to you, sir?

[ He looks vaguely worried. He was trying to blend in and be social.]

You do kinda stick out just standing there like that.

[Duo chuckled a bit.] No big deal or nothing, but it would probably be more fun for ya if you hung out with others, anyway. More enjoyable, yanno?

[He looked over at the raffle "prizes" and auction "lots" of various people supporting the event and the theatre. Being just under age left Duo unable to have been nominated by anyone, since he probably wouldn't have signed himself up.]

You could also try bidding or entering one of the raffles.

I'm trying to find some way to spend some money on the place that doesn't involve me discomfiting anyone.

I see... a few comrades from previous battles. Perhaps I will approach them in time. [ Or tell them to approach each other. Like ya do. ]

Well, when you think about it, most of the people here agreed to do it, so they're expecting people to bid and enter raffles for them. I don't think anyone'll have a major issue with you joining in and potentially winning their date.

[He tilted his head a little.]

Don't worry about it too much. This is all in good fun and super casual.

[ He folds his arms over his chest. ]

Still, I wonder if this isn't somehow unseemly.

[He looked curious.]

Well, I don't know, selling dates even for fun and charity. Even with nothing expected. Perhaps I am just too straight up and down for this sort of thing. Tarik used to tell me that a lot. I'm very little... ah, fun.

[divine_braid]

Mm... Maybe. I mean, I could see how it could be seen that way, but it is just for fun. It's not like anything's going to come of it... or at least, nothing's expected to.

[He shrugged a little.]

Now, if they were doing this as a real thing, then I could see how it would definitely come across as... 'unseemly'.

Your point is taken. I am likely being unnecessarily stiff about the whole thing.

[ Garviel probably is a lot unnecessarily stiff, but it will take a lot more work by Duo before he ever manages to chill out. ]

[It was all good, Garviel. Duo didn't mind hanging out with people who were sticks in the mud. He patted the large man on the back.]

No worries. This stuff can sometimes be a little weird for people who aren't used to it.

Yes. Well, at least there's food to be had as well. And that's something both myself and my Pokemon can enjoy.
