Thespians for Sale! (Date Auction)

Almost there! It had taken them the better part of a year, but the Union Divine Theater had nearly been restored in the aftermath of Kyurem’s attack. As a historic monument, they had to be careful to only use period-appropriate building materials, and employed only the finest craftsmen. But now they’re nearly ready for business again.

So of course, they’re holding a fundraiser. And, of course, it’s a date auction.

Not just any date auction, though! The courtyard has been taken up with several small tables, behind which each thespian being raffled off is seated. Interested bidders are welcome to chat with the “prizes” or to check out the long line of tables across from the auction decorated with several super-classy glass jars. Each jar has a person’s name on it, and a small watercolor picture of the person in question next to it. These individuals have volunteered (or been volunteered) to serve as extra dates - just buy a ticket from the Slowking and the Wooper at the end of the tables and you can enter to win!

Small placards scattered throughout the event specify that all “prizes” must be 18 years or over, and that all dates must be family-friendly. All “prizes” also have the option, if they desire, of specifying which gender of date they prefer. Additionally, while the humans mingle, their Pokémon are encouraged to chat with the Nidoking who’s waiting just inside the theater. He’s giving tours of the stage area complete with the option of putting on a production! Be sure to tell your Trainers to buy tickets to the Theater’s next show!

The event will run all day, with bidding starting at $25 (Union currency). Are you ready to make a new friend??

[[ OOC: The date raffle and auction is live! Please follow the instructions beneath each top-level below. Each character being auctioned will have their own auction thread, where all bids go for that character - threadjacking is encouraged, and a mingle thread where people can talk to that character. Each character being raffled has their own section for people to note they’ve put in a ticket, but these can all be replies to the top-level. Each character being raffled also has their own spot for mingling. OOCly, results for the auctions and raffles will be announced in about a week.

Pokémon interested in performing on stage can leave top-level comments in the section at the bottom of the post. Their scene partner tags in with a result from the RP Scenario Generator: this is the scene the two Pokémon are encouraged to act out. An assortment of costume pieces, sets, and props are available. [In neat, tidy handwriting, Mei's preferences are listed on the card. It's only one line, but it really says all it needs to say about her choices. Men and Women are both welcome.]

[ Veronica hides what might be a smile at that note, then fills out a ticket and drops it in.

If she happened to list her rank and position in the Swords of the Savior in addition to her name, well. It's reassurance. ]

[And the woman behind the no criminals card? Couldn't look more out of place in the heat of a Union summer. She's a short, round little woman with cheerful, rosy red cheeks and wide eyes made all the wider by a pair of large glasses, which is all relatively normal. The enormous parka she has on, though, is where she starts to defy expectation. It looks like it's probably meant for spending nights in the mountains in the winter and not someone's everyday dress.

Not that it seems to affect the woman in any way, because whenever anyone comes up to talk to her she waves happily, bobbing her head from side to side in time to some unheard song.]

Hello! It's nice to meet you! My name is Mei-Ling, but you can call me Mei. And I hope you're having fun today.

[ That's...some parka. ] Veronica. You don't look Glacian.

[ Though someone from Glacier, herself included, wouldn't have bundled up for these temperatures. Calderan, then? ]

Because I'm not.

[Beaming to herself, Mei brings her hands together in an almost clap.]

I'm from Gigas.

[blastruler]

You've made your way here quickly, then. [ No judgment here about the Gigas thing. Though aware of the history between the two civilizations, Veronica has no Rhyhorn Ponyta in that particular race. ]

[Mei shrugs her shoulders]

I've been here a month. I just...haven't left the lab much. Once the members of my unit found out what was really going on, we went our separate ways.

[blastruler]

And yours led here. [ She can't really comment, though, seeing as there's a Noibat a few jars down perched next to a picture of Veronica and snickering. ]

Look for this uniform if anyone gives you trouble. [ She taps the insignia noting her rank, but the whole outfit's standard issue. ] We keep the peace.

[snowboots]

It did. I thought it might be a good, central place. Quiet, and away from any lingering trouble with Imperial sympathizers.

What about you? You do not have a Union accent. Where are you from?

[blastruler]

Glacier, originally. [ Though she would hardly call Union "quiet" in the short span of time she's been here. ] It was a goodwill transfer.

[ They'll leave the part where she couldn't perform her duty probably in Glacier out of this. Far, far out of this. As far out of this as possible. ]

[snowboots]

Well, it sounds like a good move. Union is so wonderful, like a big melting pot!

[People from all over, even!]

When was your transfer? And was it just an exchange of the guard, as it were?

I've been here a few months. [ Now that she's talking about work, Veronica crosses her arms behind her back and stands up even straighter, if that's possible. It's a squad leader thing. ] Technically, I suppose you could consider me a delegate. A political gesture to indicate our cities' cooperation.

[snowboots]

Ah! Well! I'm sure you're doing great work.

[She doesn't really know what that might be, but being encouraging and upbeat is just her way.]

I will certainly let the Swords of the Savior know if I have any problems. But I haven't yet. At least, not any meaningful ones.

[Adell wasn't surprised by the woman's friendliness at all. She seemed like a cheery, approachable sort, but what did take him by surprise was that heavy parka in the late summer. Sure, the summers in Union were cooler than the ones in Caldera, but... no one he knew would go right to a parka for this kind of weather.

Still, he figured he'd go say hi.]

Nice to meet you too, Mei. My name's Adell. And I have been. How about you?

[Well, that's something at least. Mei bounces a little bit when she turns to face him, smiling her best smile.]

I am! It's good to get out of the lab sometimes, and while I don't know about...dating...at least this seem like it's for a good cause. People like theater here, I understand.

I admit, I've never been to a show myself, but I'm from Caldera and only got here a few months ago. But from what I have seen while being here, yeah, the theater's quite popular.

But a lab? Are you a scientist? An engineer?

[snowboots]

Oh! Both. I'm a climatologist, but because my field is a little specialized I have to make all my own equipment It's why I'm so busy all the time.

What about you?

[vulcanblazer]

[He blinked. While he wasn't stupid, and was actually a fairly smart guy, he blanked on something.]

Clima-tology? Study of climates?

[He really doesn't sound sure if he's right, and he's just making his best guess.]

I'm from a farming family, but since I've gotten to Union I've mostly been adventuring and doing odd jobs to help rebuild the city.

[snowboots]

[Mei nods cheerfully.]

That's right. Climates, climate change, weather patterns, all that sort of thing.

[Clapping her hands she nods even more excitedly.]

And that's why I do it! Knowing more about the climate helps farmers, after all! Making it easier to predict rain and figure out what crops can grow.

That does sound useful.

Can you predict things more than a couple of days in advance? Because all I really know about predicting the weather is the usual stuff. Certain clouds might mean rain in the next day, or if trees turn their leaves upside down that means a storm's coming.

But not much more than that.

Generally, yes. I'm pretty accurate out to about a week. Just by statistics and climate patterns. Things can surprise me though, of course, like a Pokemon deciding it wants to change the weather but thankfully that's pretty localized.

A week's still a heck of a lot better than what we'd normally have, even allowing for stuff like Pokemon creating harsh sunlight or storms.

Sounds like you have a tough job to me.
